$500 is considered a lot in Cambodia. But if you're coming from a western country, this might be a little hard. My first month was more than double that! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/nw-EJqH3pGw/видео.html

Unfortunately FULL healthcare is as much as your rent! For seniors considering retiring to Asia always factor in $400 - $700/mo for FULL healthcare coverage vs. your home country's plan. (e.g. MediCare in the USA $185/mo). In Asia the monthly premium goes up w/ age and pre-existing conditions.

Appreciate your recommendations,

Hi. I don't live in Cambodia but I've seen this answer from another expat. How he does it: he withdraws money from his USA acct) Charles Schwab) via ATM, then goes to another ATM of his Cambodian bank (ABA) to deposit the cash. He chose Charles Schwab bcos it refunds his ATM fees at month's end.
Another one did it by creating a Wise (formerly Transfer wise) acct and transferring money from her USA asct to Wise. Then from Wise, she transfers her money to her ABA (Cambodian) bank acct. This was "taught" to her by bank staff at ABA when she opened an acct with them.
      Good luck!

I came to Siem Reap about 3 months ago with about $13,000 in savings. I've blown through about $5,000 so far, but I'd say at least a third of that was me just being a stupid rookie ex-pat.
My goal is to get my total monthly cost down below $1,500 per month.
$500 a month might be doable, but If want to live on a super tight budget, I can just go back to the States.
I'm not too worried about the future - my Social Security benefits are supposed to kick in next month (January 2025), and I should be receiving a little less than $2,500 month. That means I should be able to save a pretty good amount of money to self-fund my healthcare, emergency fund, and still be able to do some traveling.

I have met people from the US that fly to mexico and points south just to do minor dental work. My friend fell down a flight of stairs and cracked his head really bad. The ambulance ride, 20 stitches, doctors and hospital cost 120 dollars. And we we in and out in about an hour.

listen: i lived in PI and thailand for years. into my 50s. i had a retirement visa. spend time in cambodia.
IF you are from the west and you want (need) the following:
    a girlfriend (or other)
    AC
    western food
go out say NO more than 2 or 3 times a month. cheap local beer.
and here it is never mentioned: a good international medical plan
    than this $500 is BS.
we can talk budget all day. $500 is click bait so you click the story and this person numbers go up on YT for revenue, ratings.
a realistic minimum for a westerner. AC, decent small apt, food, going to a non asian restaurant every so often. $1700/
Int. medical insurance depending on what you get, deductible, age, ect..for someone in their 50s is going to be at least $220-$260 per month. OR you can lay in a thai government hosptial and a 75yoa doctor that does not speak 5 words of english will make you death or life medical decisions for you.
OR you go with your insurance to bangkok international or bumrungrad.
maybe one 1 or two of these "retire on $99 a month" clickbait videos do i hear medical insurance spoken of. moped, girls and housing. but IF you need cardiac surgury...dont worry the thai government will foot the bill.
i would say, at least $1600 to $1800 (or course, plus, if you want) is a median for decent, basic living and going on. then again what city and where.
i would say hua hin..this can do good. you can not do this bangkok. or IF you want to eat cambodian soup 29 nights a month.
    click bait video, little else.
