    I owned a 2001 century class with 12.7 detroit.The 1st injector gave out at 1.6 million miles,i replaced all of them and the head,head had a small crack in it. Replaced the turbo at 1.1M. Engine finally gave up.at 2.4m miles. It is the cheapest,easiest to work on,reliable engine! Can't go wrong with 60 series.

    Incredible engine. Has its quirks, but it’s damn reliable and parts are cheap. Got a 99 12.7 in my glider Kenworth. Went from a Cat C15 to this Detroit and could not be happier. Tuned right, this little 12.7 pulls just as good as that 600 horse Cat and it doesn’t blow a head gasket every oil change. The Detroit leaks oil like a faucet though. It certainly marks its territory everywhere it goes, but I’d have nothing else over it. Bless Detroit for building this amazing engine. If you’re in the market for a truck, do not be scared of this engine. Rebuilt my Cat for 25 grand and it was still a money pit. The Detroit costs 14 grand out the door for a full rebuild just like my Cat was done. This engine is cheap, reliable, and pulls like hell if it’s tuned properly. Stay safe drivers!

    • @PickupsAreNotTrucks
      @PickupsAreNotTrucks 2 года назад +4

      @@derick12331 It was done by reputable shop in Moorhead MN that me and many friends use. Platinum Cat kit in frame done on it along with new turbos since they were the original ticking time bombs for a brand new engine. Liner protrusion checked and was within 3 thousandths. Right after I got it done, Cat decided all c15s need to get the block decked during a rebuild. It was too late for me. Engine made it 100,000 miles and the engine had to be tore back down. I sold the truck and took a $40,000 loss. I hated that Cat and did what it took to get rid of it. Got a glider with a series 60 that I paid dearly for since it’s E log exempt and I’ve never been happier.

      Hello guys, I’m actually subscribed to both of you guys maybe one of you can help me out. 2014 cascadia DD15. Rough idle low power no code for it. After getting the truck check over by a friend (no mechanic) we found that my air filter hadn’t been replaced in some time and was completely clogged. (Thanks Speedco) Changed it and truck was a little better but still rough idle and low power. So I took it to the dealer. Thinking maybe I lost an injector or maybe a boost leak. I asked them to fix crank seal leak and a leak on the fuel rail line since I was in the shop. And to replace a nox sensor since I had been riding around with that light and code for a couple years with no issues. They fixed the oil leaks and then replaced the both nox sensors. Test drove and said your good to go. On the very next load I pulled. I still had the rough idle and low power. Now 55 mph derate. Back to the shop. After they broke transmission lines and def lines and made me pay for them. They then replaced metering unit and def dosier. Hey your good to go. Still rough idle and low power the first hill I came to. 5 mph derate and a huge tow bill back to the shop. Where my truck sits after $11,000 later.

      Taking money out of their own pockets to put more into their pockets. Everyone who knows diesel engines know that the 12.7 60 series is the best engine for longevity and reliability with oem components. With that said compared to all semi trucks on the road today there aren't many 12.7 being used. If I had to guess I'd say less that 2% of tractor trailers operated in the US has a 12.7 detroit. Most older owner operators run a 12.7, 🐈, or red top cummins while the younger owner operators run a mbe, isx, or dd13/15's. Lowering the 12.7 pot.

    • @TATEXPRESSINC
      @TATEXPRESSINC  3 года назад +2

      @scav, Detriot only rebuilds existing parts for the 60 series. The 60 series does not meet newer EPA standards, so engineers produced engines that would use up-to-date technology. Higher compression and fuel pressure allow for smoother operation and a broader torque curve. Detriot now focuses its manufacturing on late models. Be sure to subscribe for more content. 👍🏼🔧💪🏼

Former FedEx ground truck and for those that don't know up here in CT there's this regional manager that's pushing these contractors to run 7 days so maintenance is on the fly for those guys. Plus the contractor was cheap. I'm playing catch-up now and it's in the shop getting the front cover noise checked. Hoping it's the accessory drive not the bull gear.

    I'm almost bankrupt after my dd15 has spent the past 5 months in 4 different dealership shops with the same aftertreatment electronics problem. I gave up handing my money over to Freightliner for not fixing my truck, so now I'm selling it with the dash code. The only thing worse than this garbage engine is the humanoids behind the dealership service counters. They start getting angry as soon as they realize you're trying to explain that you're having a recurring failure, and most of them have no problem at all shouting over you nonstop just to prevent themselves from hearing what you have to say. They act like it's me who built this truck, not them. So my next truck will be a Cummins. Hopefully I never have to set foot in another Freightliner dealership. Simply awful.

    If no leaks ... isn’t Detroit

      No leaks are best. Too many leaks will make it challenging to find the source of the oil leak. Thanks for watching

    Tip of the day: Don't buy a Detroit any series... They are obsolete and have been taken over by Mercedes DD series. This has been a fact since 2015. Detroit got butt hurt when PACCARD bought out Cummins. PACCARD was still in the process deciding which motors to install in OVR tractors, when Detroit Diesel came in and bought all their parts back from PACCARD. This lead to their downfall and why if you own a Kenworth or Pete you cant get parts for a Detroit 60 in any dealer locations. Now the Detroit building in Michigan says Mercedes on it. This is the same power plant that was in the Ford Sterling back in 2000. Unless you go to the manufacture or Freightliner , its impossible to get parts ..and it wont be long til they are fazed out!!

      Correction don't get a 5th gen dd series engine or better. Ex: dd13, 15, 16 these are basically MBE's. Just bc parts are no longer produced doesn't mean that parts aren't available.
