    One idea that I’ve had since Iceborne released was a map that is a mixture of both tundra and volcanic. Something along the lines of Mt. Fuji in Japan. I imagine it having two extremes where either the lava is flowing and there are more volcanic monsters and another with a blizzard that has more tundra monsters.

    I feel like the volcano map wouldn't have any active lava *at all* during the plentiful season. There would be clear, pure water, and solid rock. There would also be at least one area in which there is a lot of splintered volcanic glass and it's near impossible to sneak. However, you could use some of the glass as slinger ammo. There is also a geyser that erupts at rather precise intervals.
    During the harsh season, not only will lava be covering the map, but there will also be fumaroles that can be used as traps if you can lead a monster into one as it erupts. Another trap is a large mudpot, which a monster can fall into. This will trap it for several moments, giving you a large opportunity to attack. Some water sources will boil away, making new areas accessible.

    It appears as if Wilds will be like the Guiding Lands; one large map with at least four different biomes that one can transition between seamlessly.

I could very well see swimming as only traversal, not as a battle mechanic. Like our birdo mount can swim us across things.

When it's harsh = A sudden Snowstorm ... Then depend on elevation, you get an Avalanche that catches you and sends you to a new part of the cave ... Colder, chilling your body so it reduces stamina ... And then Plentiful= the snow melts, icicles start falling, Sun rises and then even waterfalls happen around you. I hope we have a peak of a mountain to stand on looking at the landscape

    One of the coolest parts about the maps is that they said each of them will have 2 large monsters that form herds, at a minimum. Doshaguma and balahara may be the only herd monsters on that map, maybe not but this implies that other maps will have maybe 3 or 4 monsters that use this mechanic. I can't wait to see what other herd monsters we get.
    We also have the 3 states of the maps; abundance, scarcity and hazards. I can't wait to see how that is used on other biomes. Maybe they fuse a forest/jungle and a volcano, you would have lush greens, to an eruption where everything is on fire, maybe lava is poring from the volcano in sections, then the scarcity is a dark ash covered landscape, where the lava has cooled off. A snow map will probably have blizzards. Maybe the scarcity is from everything being buried in snow, like the sand in the map we have. I don't think we're getting like zones taht will be closed off, we may, but i'd imagine that at worst like the lava flow would close off a path and to get to that zone you just have to take a different one. They likely won't seal off whole zones with this.
    Yeah, with this level of detail, i'd be fine with like 4 maps. I do hope we get a swamp though, the series has a bad habit of adding a swamp and the monsters in it don't really fit. Now we have swampy monsters like almodron. They've had swamps in 1st, 2nd, and 4th gen but there weren't monsters that felt like they were particularly adapted for them. It's their one blind spot when it comes to map ecology. The only monster that gets an explanation really is basarios, the swamp in 1st gen is close to the volcano so they stay there until they are old enough to take the heat and venture to the volcano shortly before becoming gravios. Really though, that's not a swamp thing in particular but just it being any map that's worm but not too close to the volcano so it could be almost anything. It didn't have to be a swamp. I'd be satisfied if we got a swamp in the next portable game, with monsters taht fit it better, doesn't have to be Wilds. Just something odd that i've noticed.

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  22 дня назад +2

      Yea man it really has been a long time since we’ve gotten a swamp. Off thr top of my head Almudron, Jyratodus, gobul make sense for the swamps, but there could and should be better monsters that would suit such a locale.

    • @willglorian
      @willglorian 22 дня назад +2

      While basing ourselves on the frst gens swamps, we could have Espinas & Astalos for the highlands as they would love an insect rich environment. Almudron would chill in his swampy mud manor as Duramboros roams around looking for trees to dig up.
      Viper Tobi and Giginox lurk in the shadowy caves when water is low, but we can encounter a Jyuratodus when the muddy water reaches knee high.
      Roaming around the whole map, you can have a invasive herd of Congalalas with an emerald looking one as the boss and Congas everywhere, Najarala lookin to catch sometin' lacking. There's also the possibility of a new, medium sized omnivorous fang wyvern working like a pack of wolves.
      As for seasonal changes, Lagiacrus could come up and stir trouble with is blue ass shrouded in the heavy rain, thunderind aubout the wetlands. Or a Gravios descending from a nearby volcano to cool down when the marsh dries up.
      But in between, as the heavy rain dies down, the apex of the zone, Barlagual (a leviathan from frontier) comes play the boogeymon. He uses wager attacks, paralysing fangs and a poisonous tongue to harass small monsters and drain them of their blood to reinforce his powers (with, we have a second monster who can naturally inflict bloodblight).

      That's assuming there is a neerby volcano again.
      That's one of the Frontier monsters i actually like.
      As much as that's a nice list, i'd hope for them to come up with more monsters that are built for a the swamp in particular because there aren't a lot of them in the series. Mostly just ones that tolerate it.

    • @willglorian
      @willglorian 22 дня назад +2

      @@jockpackage1770 You could argue that Viper could be in the swamp since its cold enough for cold drink to be necessary, but you're right about the need of swamp/mangrove specialist. Unfortunately, those we could count as swamps specialists atm just really need mud to thrive, as you said.
      We could also argue that Duramboros is a true inhabitant of the swamp as his concept follows the water buffalo. He burries himself in the muddy water to rest, forage the surroundings for grass and dead trees. He tolarates other maps because there's water and food, but the swamp is his true home.
      I would love a monster using the concept of Estrelian (from Online, and since his design belong to tencent, we can't have him, but his squeleton is kushala's without the wings). He would mainly use paralysis since he mainly forages for mushrooms, insects and fish. His tail, claws and horns would be his main weapons for fighting and he doesn't shy away form using them. His skin would be adapted to the different types of marshes, but his scales are pretty resistant. (I would love it but that's going ahead of myself)

    For a volcano map, it would be ideal to have the normal season with an lot of caves, hot but manageable; a eruption season with the underground being partially obstructed and the ground burning with flowing lava, then the plenty would be a season with a were a lot of rain fell and cooled the map, chasing the fire monsters to let other island dwellers come (the crabs, snakes, etc) with a lot of ore being created.
    In a map with water, we follow your idea of a tide, but I would love it to be some kind of inland marsh where water rises from the ground with the harsh rain and its difficult to move (put in some poisonous puddles here and there). There are a lot of caves becoming underground lakes. Or a coastal mangrove (since there's no underwater combat, we keep it for the next game)
    For the forest, I love the concept of taiga where the snowy mountains are mixed with the 'forest & hills'. we have the naked forest (the plenty) with a lot of accessible caves, a slightly snowy and misty forest with certain caves and hills accessible and a heavily snowy zone where the sharp edged hills become small mountains (of course, exit Barioth & Narga to welcome the migratory Blangongaw, the Congalala and Gammoth).

    however tides change and the low tide is so extreme you can see the coral above the water now, basically a coral highlands area on low tides, with a possible cave with a lot of pearls, corals and crystals it will also be 1/4th of the map
    when the tide rises even your already fighting there you get a animation kind of like the one we had on world when you fell down in the hoarfrost reach (the area where the ice falls and if you don't escape you go to viper tobi's area) and you take some damage, maybe 40% of your current health (so it won't ever faint you but will reduce your health for overstaying in that area)
    and as you said when the tide is high water comes in and turns the forest into a swamp-like map, it goes from clean and pretty to dirty (but still pretty)
    monsters that can use thunder will have an AOE on where their attacks, ice blight effect is strengthened since your covered in water and you walk slightly slower in the watery areas

    I want a cavernous underground anthill like map, that floods (not swimming but walking/wading through knee high water) as the "weather" or "storm" effect. And like water slides effects and stuff.
    Edit: So I posted this before you got to your 2nd map.
