My theory is that Suzanne finds him as funny as all of us do.... and plays on it every day like Steve and Ricky. it's the only explanation for this relationship !!!
I love how I can normally tell what Karl's warped view on the situation is, but with the fish thing I was just like "where the fuck is he going with this", and it turned out nowhere.
My goodness, I cannot express how much I want to hear Ricky and Steve interview Suzanne. What could this woman possibly have rattling around in that head? Karl is her idea of a good mate?! What anecdotes does this bird have? Oh, the imagination sprints.
It seems to me Suzanne likes the simple life, and I can definitely see that. Karl also actively tries to come up with new things to talk to her about, and I'm sure she finds him funny sometimes, too.
There was a series by Nick Park (of Wallace and Grommit fame) a while back called 'Creature Comforts', where they took interviews with various people on various topics and used them as the basis for claymation animals. Two of the regular characters were a couple (animated as cats) who talk about each other and their relationship... Well the male voice is now easily recognisable as Karl, so the female voice was Suzanne.
I get what he's saying with that Lion comment. His specific reference to a lion in a zoo, he's referring to the fact that the Lion would have had exposure to humans and human behavior prior to his magical ability to speak, so he would be able to convey some ideas. The Jellyfish in this case wouldn't have had any human interaction, so he wouldn't have any sort of way to convey speech the same way that we do. At least that is what I have interpreted.
Or it's like a white person raised in the African bush by African parents, or a person replying to a 5 year old comment lol I just realized what I'm doing...
It doesn't work too much for me. We can decipher completely foreign languages and translate them into English, so a Lion speaking gibberish English would still be fine. A tree to the lion might be called green pole or even something crazy like jellyblade. We'd be able to work out the Lion's English eventually.
L2DaK2Dap it’s not about what they’d call stuff lol it’s about how their perspective would be so different to yours the way they speak about everything wouldn’t make sense to you - you wouldn’t be able to interpret what they’re going on about because their frame of reference is so different to yours.
I really did like how he was immediately like "But, what if you were talking to a lion raised in captivity in a zoo, surrounded by humans for his whole life? His perspective isn't going to be so far removed that we can't understand it." Like, honestly, that's quite clever to think of that on the spot.
Karl: "But what I mean is... I don't know what I mean." Wow. That's the first time I ever heard Karl say he didn't know what he meant. Even if the stuff he says is far-out and complex and ridiculous, he always stands by his convictions 'til the end. I don't know what happened here. He was actually on the right track with the whole majority rules idea, then somehow he just derailed and lost his train of thought. Stunningly hysterical.
The initial debate was whether or not he could talk to a lion, then he switched it to whether or not he would talk to a worm, then just rambled about fish for a couple of minutes
Actually, Karl's response here does not seem entirely idiotic and even hints at a broader understanding of Wittgenstein's reasoning. He makes the point that if the lion was in a zoo, i.e. in a context and 'world' that was understandable to the listener, then it could be understood. The very reason Wittgenstein's comment is considered paradoxical is because it states that if a lion could speak, communicate in a way that we could understand, then we could not understand it.
I think I get Karl's point. It's like, it's not the 'lion" part that's important, it's the fact that he was from such a different place. If an English-speaking lion grew up in London, there wouldn't be an issue at all.
If anyone could talk to a lion, it might be Karl, especially since he actually had a solid point that one in a zoo, he might have a shot of having common ground with.
In order to speak a specific language you must understand the meaning of the words and their use. If a lion is able to speak English it must understand the meaning of the words and their use. So you would be able to understand the lion.
I'm on karl's side about the lion. :S If it could speak English fluently with all the correct punctuation then we would understand it. We may not have much to talk about, it may not understand all that WE have to say, but we would definitely understand the lion.
I think he means fish were allowed to evolve and diversify and have a range on the globe humans never can. We are stuck on land with day jobs and girlfriends while fish just swim around and eat each other. Pure freedom.
People mirror the video in order to try to dodge getting it removed due to copyright infringement. Don't know if it actually works or not, but apparently quite a few people do it.
Iv held conversations with people whom i dont speak the language 😂😂 Like Chinese If you can find reference points (like games) then you can interpret parts of the conversation even with the language barrier So if the lion could understand and speak english, you could have conversations with it. Tho the lion may see narrow minded to you, or abstract in its thinking
It wouldn't use words you could understand or frame it in a way we could understand. If you spoke "lion" and tried to explain what a car is, the lion wouldn't understand you.
@@videonmode8649 But that's not what they're saying. Go say something to it that IS in its frame of reference... a human baby doesn't know what a car is either, until its learned it. WHY AM I DEFENDING DILKINGTON?!?
I think I'd be able to understand a lion, but a lion wouldn't be able to understand me. Lions aren't as intelligent as humans, so really all they'd have to say would be like "It's hot out here." "I'm hungry." "I wish zebras didn't run so fast."
"what i mean is, i dont know what i mean" LMFAO karl oh my god i love you

She was alright
Needs of the many is what he meant
I honestly share that sentiment with him quite a bit.

I think also she finds him good-hearted.
He's not bad at dancing, you wouldn't know it if you looked at him, but he's got talent.
Don't forget that Karl also just has a beautiful and very kind mind. He is peace incarnate.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a guilty crush for a lot of people, he’s got a nice face too.
a lot of women like the sort of simple decent uncomplicated aloof type
ah it's so weird to see karl on the left what have you done!
The video has been flipped to stop RUclips's automated software from taking it down over copyright law.
So many videos have been flipped I'm kind of used to seeing Karl teleport back and forth from his usual spot.
@Nathan Jarrett you hav'n a go?
@Nathan Jarrett i dont get it
It was the mouse on the left that got me
“You added too much water.”
I nearly fell over laughing.
I love how I can normally tell what Karl's warped view on the situation is, but with the fish thing I was just like "where the fuck is he going with this", and it turned out nowhere.
- There's loads of fish, so...
- But they're not really making their voices heard, though are they Karl?
- I know, cause they're under water.
“Oh I’m fed up of being stuck in here”
“Oh yea”
I watched these late at night years ago. God, how I miss Karl's little pearls of wisdom!
The ending to this one is the best! It's the one time where Karl's "just keep talking & your mouth will come up with things" didn't work.
I laughed so hard at "no coz they're underwater"
So what learned is
1) Karl is actually Maxie from team Magma
2) Karl wrote the 7/10 review for the Hoenn remakes.
This is the crossover that we need but don't deserve

Well what about jellyfish in aquariums?
that's just karl's way of saying "i am the wisest man alive, for i know one thing, and that is that i know nothing."
'they're not really making their voices heard'
'i know 'cause they're underwater'
"Wut I mean is... I don't know wut I mean."
It always annoys me that they pull him away from his points, I though the had something there!
"But what I mean is...I don't know what I mean..."
I certainly didn't expect that :-D
I agree with Karl on the Lion thing really. In order to speak English, you have to have a specific conceptual framework in your head.
It doesn't work too much for me. We can decipher completely foreign languages and translate them into English, so a Lion speaking gibberish English would still be fine. A tree to the lion might be called green pole or even something crazy like jellyblade. We'd be able to work out the Lion's English eventually.
