Same. I remember skating and acting hard with early OF, and now chilling smoking weed with my friends listening to flower boy. Tyler basically fathered the kids who grew up in the 2010s
@@yvngcobain4794 I definitely feel this. Looking back at how I was during Bastard and looking at who I am now during Flower Boy (& Igor), it's like two completely different people. It's amazing honestly.
Tyler and Odd Future were doing things in the the early 2010s that have become normalized now. They were one of the first music groups to break into the music industry using the internet, he started to blend punk rock and rap before the sound cloud rappers from today even using similar elements like distorting instruments in songs, he rapped about his depressive feelings which is similar to the emo rap that is becoming more common today, he was involved in the fashion world, he broke the traditional rap standards by making alternative music and he had a strong social media presence. Tyler doesn’t get any credit for being innovative or ahead of his time in hip hop culture or any credit for being an entrepreneur at such a young age
as much as i love tyler, i’d have to disagree with you on some stuff. many rappers were involved in the fashion world before tyler (kanye, pharrell, cam’ron, etc.) and most rappers have rapped about depressive feelings 😂 going back to biggie or a tribe called quest. and even soulja boy broke into the music scene using the internet before tyler
i agree with you on some stuff but there’s a lot of things wrong, there’s no aspect of punk in this album at all, at least in the rock punk version, & soulja boy was the first to break onto music with internet !
I wasn’t always a Tyler the Creator fan growing up, but WOLF really changed my mind on his music style and the OFWG collective overall. Probably my favorite OF/Tyler album because of that
I think people may have just liked his old style more and wanted him to grow/refine his original sound instead changing into something really different. The tron cat fans are getting sick of the lakes pretty much
@@eckstra8392 NGL, I will admit I kinda wanna see what would've happened if Tyler refined his OG sound and what that would be like, but then we never would've gotten Wolf, Cherry Bomb, or Flower Boy. Because it feels forced. Tyler himself said that after Cherry Bomb he started making more mainstream type of music because its appealing to the masses (Flowerboy and Igor). And i understand why he did that. Cherry Bomb is his favourite album he ever made, its the true representation of Tyler, and everyone hated on it, and it really hit him when people said they dont like it, because in a sense they are basically saying that they dont like HIM. Hey man! I just wanted to point out a major error in your video essay. At 1:45, you say Bastard is continued by Goblin, however, it’s really Wolf that is the sequel to Bastard. Goblin wouldn’t make sense as the sequel because Bastard ends with Tyler killing himself or his alter ego, and Goblin begins with Doctor TC stating that it’s been a while since their last session. Meaning there had to bee a break, which is Wolf. This also makes sense because Tyler has been sent to Camp Flog Gnaw, Dr. TC was now the director or counselor of the camp. Additionally, Wolf ends with Wolf(his alter ego) stating that he would killed Samuel if he saw him. Which also makes sense because Goblin immediately starts with Dr. TC saying: “You wouldn’t do that Tyler, kill yourself or anyone…” Honestly, you got a lot wrong in this video, which doesn’t mean it wasn’t entertaining. The video was incredibly well made, even with the lack of proper information. I recommended you watch TennisThom’s deep dive video on this if you would like to now more, and he explains it better than I do. You’re still incredibly underrated at less than 500k subs though, keep up the hard work!

I love this video, BUT I strongly disagree with cherry bomb being a “detour” in his music career. It’s still my favorite album by him. It’s actually the album the got me to listen to the rest of his music, simply because the theme of that album is “there is no theme”. It’s literally just the ups and down of how music can make you feel. And the imperfect mixing between vocals and instrumentals gives it more the of that live performance feeling! We got a good handful of softer songs from him in that album, which I think is a BIG gateway to his last 2 albums. (This is my opinion)
I think that wolf is him finally dealing with his emotions and trauma using characters and alter egos and then cherry bomb is him kinda chilling and finding him self until flower boy that is the big blossom of his personality and coming out
