I think that have owned so many guitars, really, from all, well known guitar brands out there, over the last 25 years, just a few at a time, likely, also, every model Ibanez has made, but in my subjective opinion, all opinions are subjective of course, this one/model is the best of the best. That includes owning all other Ibanez Artist models, major Ibanez models, all top of the line, within reason, but made in Japan and I owned a Jem 7V, white with gold hardware, that people think of, when they think Vai and I thought that I would be immediately in heaven, spent a lot of money on it, thankfully got almost all of it back, three weeks later, with the realization, that this is a really beautiful Japanese RG550, or variant and nothing more and it broke my heart. Yes, the RG550, was the affordable version, for the Jem, but the rest was just make up! The Vine of Life had appeared on another guitar, from another manufacturer before, less know, but it is beautiful. Not needed! The monkey grip, existed on another guitar, from another company and it was carved into the Jem, for a video shoot, for Vai to spin the guitar around, but before that concept was ditched, after, someone thought it would be cool to keep it, visually stimulating, part of the Jem "style", but it had been done before and any luthier, will tell you, without hesitation, that cutting out a piece of wood, that has no use, really, is so fundamentally dumb, as that is a tone, sustain killer, which is dumb. That Jem, beauty aside, played no different and sounded no different than any other RG550, or variant, made in Japan, with Dimarzio pickups, which was sad for me. * This guitar, the JS1200, really, no different than the JS1000, but with pickup variation, but I chose it, because the colour options on the JS1000, to me, were ugly and Candy Red, the only colour option on the JS1200, is stunningly beautiful. I don't think it is noted in this video, I did not watch it all, but the story, as I think it was told, right or wrong, was Satch saw a Corvette, red in colour, loved the colour and that is the colour of this guitar. * What really makes this guitar absolutely great, is everything about this guitar, is all about comfort, playability, feel, tone and it is a model, that evolved, to be better and not all about looks, but function, plus, I don't think noted in this video, sorry, watched many similar, is Satriani wanted a signature guitar, that if anyone bought one from a store, it would be, what he plays and many, are offered, other signature models, but the artist plays a different, custom shop, special version just for them and that sucks. Not this model! Also, story goes, that Satch, was not interested in having his name on the guitar, a great guitar for any player, noting that the buyer may not be a Satch fan, but it is just a great guitar. Yes, a signature model, but JS1200 is so small, it is virtually, not noticed, which is great and I think, smart, forward thinking and humble. When people see it, they typically know what it is, but it is not a guitar, with Satriani written all over it, which is great. * I keep going back to this guitar, over and over, when many Gibsons, Fenders, Jacksons, other Ibanez Guitars, Godin, EBMM, PRS, you name it, just having a couple of others, but it just stood, as the number one guitar and that includes different models to choose from, from companies listed and so many more. It can do the Strat thing, Tele Tone, Les Paul thing, SG Thing, the tones and the edge and edge pro are fabulous bridges and it will play like, part Strat, part comfortable Gibson, tonal versatility, has its own "thing" and can shred like crazy, if you can and I can't. I cannot find fault with it, I don't think that I would change anything and there is nothing to change, plus, has coil tapping and a high pass filter, push pull, for great single coil tones and if using a tube amp, no treble loss, with reduced volume. There are no design flaws. ** Of note! ** I don't like the JS2410, which is a personal thing, but that does give a guitar god, way more options, with 2 more frets, plus a sustainer system, but I would love it, if another model was released now, a JS1200 - S, a new JS1200 model, with Sustainer, which would be great, because I don't want to modify, potentially, likely, ruin, my mint, loved, JS1200, for a battery compartment, toggle switches, neck pickup mod, all big mods, so if this somehow reaches Joe, which it won't I know, with the JS2410 out, for those that prefer the JS1200, make a new model, with sustainer, updated a really great model and I would absolutely buy that model and still love the JS1200 I love now and won't modify. Ibanez/Joe/JS1200 lovers...everybody would win, with an updated model. I wish that would happen, because the JS1200 is awesome, not saying the JS2410 isn't, but a sustainer model, kind of back dating and upgrading, another offering, would rock! All the best to all, be safe and happy!
The zero resistance bridges they've come out with are astounding! There are several guitar innovations that have attempted to eliminate de-tuning, and these bridges are among the best, in my opinion. Funny thing is, I've recently started to get more into country style playing, which is not suitable for a trem guitar.
Im a die hard Gibson LP guy but lately i have been day dreaming about getting a Joe Satriani guitar, i want to see if i can get good at using a floating bridge.
Today, I finally mastered the intro to Satch Boogie, and I felt like I was getting so far in my playing abilities. Then, I watched this video. Nevermind.
I had a JS1200 and the pickups which were designed for Joe Satriani - the Dimarzio Fred and PAF Joe, were not in perfect alignment with the string spacing! It also had these awful push/pull volume and tone pots which moved from side to side when they were engaged (were in the up position). It is an absolutely stunning looking guitar though and the best feature was the edge pro trem system which Joe has now had changed back to an older version for some reason.
I like the JS1200 because it does not have a tilt back head stock on it. With a locking nut it is pointless anyway. You can lay it down without the point of head stock digging in to something and putting stress on neck.
I have mixed feelings about Ibanez for almost 30 years. Their Japanese made guitars and basses are excellent quality. The lower end "more affordable" guitars are border line trash and need a lot of work right out of the box. Yes, absolutely, Ibanez has a unique and very original brand with design shapes, variety, and endorsed artists. Ibanez absolutely REFUSES to make Custom Shop models for the public who obviously would PAY custom shop prices for guitars with unique specs to any given customer. Even many of their "Signature/Artist" models really are massed produced crap and are missing key design features the artists has on their stage played guitars that influenced you to buy it in the first place. Just one example, Mick Thomson from Slipknot. His guitars had the coolest feature and that was those highly visible Side Rectangular Block Position Markers. The model sold to the public did not have that, and he was with Ibanez for over 12 years. I asked Ibanez several times over many years to build me one with that feature. "Nope, only for the Artist." Very bad attitude.
@InsanityType66 yeah, i guess the extra $50 comes from the matching headstock then, i think the black headstock looks pretty cool in some color, red is definitely not a good match, im glad they did this on this guitar, i have a js1000 BTB (burnt trasnparent blue) with black headstock and i think it looks awesome, i think i would prefer it over a matching headstock for mi guitar color.
I'm here in 2020. I have a JS1200. It is not my everyday driver right now, my Schecter Reaper 7 is, but when I write leads, there has always been only one choice for me in my guitar collection, my beautiful candy apple red JS1200.
please help..im looking at getting either one of these or a Ibanez FR1620, cant make my mind up??????????????? I own a js100 and love it, is there much difference between the 1200 and 100,,is the 1200 really worth £900 more????????? or should i go for the fr1620,,ps, i play in a light rock covers..any help appreciated!!
Hey, I still love this guitar. You can play pretty much anything on it although i'd say there are better options for metal. A pickup change to suit your preferences may work. I more recently got a Musicman JPX and this is a much better guitar for the heavier side of music (and everything in between in my opinion) but the JS is still very good. Try and play one for yourself.
@bernhardtsen74 Buckethead with Gilbert at the same place would sound strange, same "copy-paste" licks. The perfect would be Satch, Gilbert and Andy Timmons

Not only the best sounding guitar I owed but the most comfortable neck I've ever played. Killer axe 🎸
had my js1200 2 days and it's already my favourite guitar by far

@sportsportsport the 1200 has a high pass filter on the volume knob which maintains high end clarity at low volumes
14 yrs now but still the JS models dont have AANJ neck. I think that upgrade is what is missing.
played one of these at guitar center. Awesome guitars.

@sportsportsport mainly just the neck pickup and color configurations.

(10 years later, lol) I don't think any JS headstocks tilt. My JS10th doesn't.
Larry DiMarzio the guy who owns and started Dimarzio. (You know, pickups etc ?) ;D
I think so, the 1200 has a matching headstock, other than that i dont see another reason for it to cost more.
