at 0:05 he says "I'm going to show you MY guitars" he didn't say OUR guitars? at 1:53 he says "i've forgotten what songs I use this on" and not WE 2:45 "hey here we are looking at MY pedal board" and not OUR. etc, etc, etc, etc
For those who are wondering, the sound at 9:10 is a Digitech IPS 33B (Actually two of them) One is set E min 5-1-3 and the other I believe is set E min 3-1-5. I bought one to mimic the sound and after I listened to the track from the CD, I realized the left and right speakers were in different octaves meaning, to truly mimic the song, you need two 33B's.
Joe is such a great person. I had the opportunity to meet him once at a meet and greet. He was generous with time, very appreciative of his fans and an all around nice guy.
Joe is amazing..he looks so wise and so humble and he description step by step like teacher so clearly.. He deserves to be called a legend.. thanks for uploading this video
Thanks Joe for sharing with us all. We are all humbled by your love and passion of guitars and music technology, as an extension of your musical creativity. :-R
Man what a great guy!!! You can tell he truly enjoys his craft. This why he gets better and better at guitar and all aspects of music!!! GREAT AND POSITIVE ATTITUDE!!!
I know you will never read this Joe....but Everytime I have been near one of our shows it has conflicted with my chemotherapy and was never able to see u live...plz while I am off that crap come to Kentucky so I can say I got at least one time to see u live....I have everything you ever recorded and never looked back and even listen to you while on chemotherapy to get me thru
one of the best guitar players, one thing that i like the most is the fact that he's sharing' his "arsenal" (i don't know why but most people doesn't do it) and to see that he is doing magic with his guitar and his hands not with thousans of pedals, saludos from mexico, love your music Mr. satriani! one other thing, he is playing the intro of a song name "why" on 7:52
Joe is just such an incredible inspiration to me as a musician. I can get completely down on myself and think that I should just quit trying, and all I have to do is see him play or talk about music and I'm right back to being excited about it all again.
seriously, this guy could not be more humble, awesome, and cool...every video, interview, and discussion I have heard, he's always professional, nice, and f-ing knowledgeable beyond belief. Wish more artists were like this legend of rock...
I'm loving this. For fellow players, I noticed @ 9:00 in the video and 9:45 when Joe plays the classic double-stop bend (G string up a step makes a min 3rd over B) he doesn't do anything to keep the Floyd from de-tuning. I have the JS2410 guitar, set up to near perfection with .010 strings, bridge perfectly level... but double-stop bends? Forget it. Unisons are a bit easier to bend both up and make them true, but G over B is impossible to do as Joe does here. I have a magnified screen capture of this vid and Joe isn't compensating in any way. The 2nd string is perfectly straight. And he's not applying reverse trem pressure cause he actually floats the trem during the bend. I have a SuperVee Maglok on order. Hope it does the trick cause I miss being able to do that, it's a staple I like to use every once in awhile.
@@edsmith898 Ed, I just gotta tip my hat to you, a fellow player who's curious, like me. I've posted this query, with links to this video and even screen caps, to a few Ibanez guitar forums, and so many of the non-helpful replies show that people just don't bother to READ what I wrote. LOL I STILL haven't bothered to try/install either of the two mechanical solutions I purchased, the MagLok (which I highly doubt Joe uses) or the ESPArmingAdjuster, which is a better bet, cause it's so much like Ibanez's own discontnued gadget. I saw joe satriani 5 times in london shows.the man play the guitar like a robot he is an amazing player .his notes comes out of the speakers alive right in your face.all i can say is god bless this man and give him a long life.
The Satch is a great guitar player and all round nice guy. He's humble too. He doesn't have a whole catalog of pedals but that's great because what he has, does exactly what he wants and gives him a good variety of effects. I just loved when he made it scream with the whammy bar!!
Saw Shockwave SuperNova tour in PA, 2016-04-06. LOUDEST show I've ever been! Joe's band and Keswick Theatre sound don't take no prisoners, yo. Hottest, tastiest, kick__s music punched home by thousands of watts, eardrums tickling during the show and outright PAIN afterward. Joe's Shockwave tour is for REAL ROCKERS only. Dude is at the top of his game, his band totally smokes, and his tone is so wet I swear I saw soapsuds and water spraying out his Marshall stacks... fantastic. Love this video, thanks Joe. You are King of Tasty and Flow!!
@RomeRider389 It's the Digitech IPS-33b. It's a rack mount effect circa the early 90's. I looked around and only found 2 for sale on ebay. I just found out that my digitech GNX4 effects board has an IPS harmonizer setting and I'm trying to set it up the same way he has it. You can control the harm. interval (3rd, 4th, 5th etc above or below the root) the mode (maj, min, mixolydian, harm. min, etc) and the key you want it in. I'll post the exact settings as soon as I figure them out.
he is very humble an easy going in real life. Had him sign a guitar of mine an he is very encouraging to never give up an play what you love an feel. He said to me that if a simple E cord works then use it. Never stop learning keep practicing.
It's a Mo'Joe' in the bridge and in the neck...Pro-Track on the 2400 and a Satch Track in the 2410 (Orange one is the prototype that became the 2410 production model). His guitars for the Unstoppable Momentum tour (he's on the tour right now) have sustainiac pickups in the neck slot.
use your left hand to depress tremelo bar while pinching a harmonic between pick & thumb on the(open) b-string(usually)then control tremelo return for desired pitch!!...enjoy
Joe did a guitar clinic in Perth last year & he was very humble in his approach & delivery to the audience, a really nice guy. He jammed with people from the audience at the end: this chick killed all of them...with a standing ovation...she wasn't technical or shredding, just played what he loves, blues, and he said that during one of his talks. I thought, well this girl understands more than these guys who were trying to shred with the master. After the gig he did a signing session. My son & I got to shake his hand while my wife took the photo, who decides when we got there that she's buying a ticket at the door to watch him play...I'm a 6'2", 120 kg ex-rugby league player: I think I sort of scared him a bit with my tatts & my size, sorry 'bout that Joe, but when I shook his hand its the same size as mine, whoa. Anyway, my wife, son & I enjoyed the night fully & the memorys will be with my family & I forever...thanks Joe
@Acepryus After fooling around a bit I think this is how he has it set up. He's using two 33b's the first harmonizes a 4th below the root in the harmonic minor mode with the harmony level set high (close to 100) The second 33b harmonizes a 4th above the root note in mixolydian with the harmony level set around 50 so you get just a hint of an overtone. Both harmonize in the key of Eb I can't duplicate it exactly because my board can only do a single note harmony either above or below the root.
He's even like that in person...ha! Awesome guy and secure in his Guitar Godship, he seems to have fun with it and doesn't let it go to his head. Saw him 12 days ago with VIP's, what a great show...the best I've seen yet. This album rocks!
I dig this whole thing. I like the fact that with the acoustic was your favorite color. FYI...Black is the combination of all colors, for those of us that didn't mix all the finger paints together in grade school! Ok I also ate some of the wheat paste!
That's the channel switcher for the Marshalls. Getting this kind of tone is not actually as elusive as you might think. Take a Marshall or Soldano or whatever and run a guitar with a good humbucker (Duncan or Dimarzio or?)through an overdrive pedal and into the amp. Put a delay like a BOSS DD-3 or 7 or whatever in the effects loop. Done! :) It's all in the fingers and technique. All the pro players say that because it is true! :)
@babymaya123 I forgot to say, these can also been seen in 6:00, when Joe explains a switch "Yes", "No". Notice that this i an ABY switch, and there is connected only one input and one output..And i think that this is being used for sort of a mute and the second head is there just to look good..
Can someone explain to me how i can make such a tone like joe did it at 8:38 It looks like a special form of squeeling but i have no idea how to make that. Appreciate your help guys.
I have a feeling that if you asked Joe how to play a D chord he'd take the time to make sure you got it and would give you a pat on the back once you grasped it. Delicious tones Joe, always an inspiration to hear your strange beautiful music & other-worldly chops & sounds!
Note @ 2:11, Joe sniffs the guitar. That is experiencing what the instrument is about. Acoustic guitars always have that great smell that I believe may bring out a more emotinal response because you are opened to another sensation.
Just saw him last night in Kelowna BC. I have 30 minutes of HD concert footage from it. Someones hoping to see some I'm sure. Also thank you Joe for sharing your gear. I so wanted to get a look at it last night.
Just an FYI. I was looking at the user manual for the DigiTech IPS-33b and the copyright date was 1990 so that gives you an idea of the era it was from. It's an amazing effect for the time. If you look on here you'll find a video posted by 0ddb0d showing some if the 33b's effects. It's sold me on the effect and I plan on finding one some time soon Check out the "shimmer" effect in his video. It's just awesome.
@Dweller777 "Why" is one of my all time favorite Satch songs. It's great to see he can get the harmonies live. I thought it was an all studio number and he couldn't perform it live but now I know better.
@61SGman He plays an artificial harmonic near the bridge of the guitar and then uses his left hand to push his whammy bar up to make it squeal like that.
long live joe, i dont know if you remember when you played in portugal 5 years ago i was with you on stage on the sound check because i was playing the opening, nice to see you rocking your ass off
I've been to his only show in India... he started on time and played non stop for 4 hours straight... a privilege to have been only 5 feet away from him doing what he does best...
Alder and Mahogany are my favorite body woods and lately I really love Ebony and Maple fretboards, I'm starting to avoid rosewood fretboards even though my first guitar a MIJ Jackson Randy Rhoads Pro is what I learned to play on and it's still one of my favorite guitars. I haven't knowingly played a Basswood guitar but I am willing to try it. That is a gorgeous acoustic guitar he has there...
I saw that tour in Denver, about a week after "Satchurated" was recorded in Canada, AMAZING show! "Andalusia" and "Wind in the Trees" being my fave songs in the show. I met Joe (and got a pic with him) in Hollywood when I bought some of his art back in 2019. WAY cool guy, very humble. Been a HUGE fan since the early '80's and have seen him a bunch of times solo and with G3, all over the US starting with "The Extremist" tour in Cleveland and even in Canada (Massey Hall 2002 I think) and it's been a great show every time. He signed 3 of my concert stubs thru a friend (the SceneFour art dealer including the one for the Massey Hall show) Hope to meet him again one day! Might make the trip to 'Vegas this year for the G3 show.
Is the E minor chord effect that he uses on the Digitech 33B pre-programed in it, or is that something that Joe made as an effect? I love that harmony part on "Why". Also, please Ibanez make the JS2400 available in Alder...I bet that one sounds amazing!
@TobyBallMusic It's funny that the Peavey team and Joe worked non stop building his dream amp, all his own specifications, the tone he wanted, the channels, the this/that and etc. and now he's over it. He had such a big smile playing through them on the Tokyo G3, and Satriani LIVE! DVD. I love the JSX, ever since I heard him play through one I wanted to get one and know I own one. Couldn't ask for a better amp. Going to bring it to Eurotubes and make it sing and punch a bit more.
Based on my limited attendance at his live shows I would have to agree. I know he's done thousands of shows but of the 3 that I've seen he impressed me with with his respect for the audience. None of that keep'em waiting crap. If the show time said 8PM he was jammin by 805 at the latest, and his 15 minute breaks were 10 minutes long.
@12062 I've met Satriani many years ago at an autograph session in HK. Him and the whole band were awesome! We talked about the difference in coffee from the Starbucks here and in the US! Not only that, he signed my guitar and my CD which wasn't allowed by the store owners but he did it anyway. I've met Malmsteen in a similar situation and that was just a sign and walk away experience. Satriani rocks. So does Yingwe too, but for different reasons. :)
@Jraax Im pretty sure he didn't say it cause he doesn't use it. Reverb can get very cluttered in a live mix definitely for Joes style of playing its more about the tube amp. Like he said he uses little boxes here and there for different songs. The key is the two delays he probably supplements that shorter one for a reverb and then the longer one. A shorter delay like that really sounds good live cause it has space to breath more than reverb.
Many of these rig rundowns feature lowly guitar techs, or the guitar players themselves who show little knowledge and even less enthusiasm about their gear. It's good to see Joe-a guitar player's player-walking us through his gear with hearty enthusiasm.
I love how he says "This is the guitar we use" as opposed to "I use". Very humble guy for having so much talent!
Yeah, I caught that too. That is pure class and humility. I have just doubled how much I like this guy!
If you say "we" you understand that its about family to have a band and a crew with you. Very true!
at 0:05 he says "I'm going to show you MY guitars" he didn't say OUR guitars?
at 1:53 he says "i've forgotten what songs I use this on" and not WE
2:45 "hey here we are looking at MY pedal board" and not OUR.
etc, etc, etc, etc
dsvet nobody said he never says "I", "my" etc.
They pointed out he said "we" when they were expecting him to say "I"...
@@dsvet hater...

That's from the song "Why" That's the intro and he then goes into a verse/chorus using the harmony machine he uses later.
I love the fact that everything is "Joe" proofed. "Yes/No" switch is brilliant.
Wheres the chrome silver metallic guitar?....my fav;)
Mabuhay joe sat from dumaguete Philippines
Some how I found this video again! Still awesome! Rock on !
Is the E minor chord effect that he uses on the Digitech 33B pre-programed in it, or is that something that Joe made as an effect? I love that harmony part on "Why". Also, please Ibanez make the JS2400 available in Alder...I bet that one sounds amazing!
@musicisart2.
Thank you very much Musiciart2.
THAT'S what I call... SOUND!
Just got a dsl 100h and it’s amazing, love the Marshall and you’re my top 5 list joe ! You da man !
That's the song "Why?" from the album The Extremist. It's actually on that song that he uses the harmonizer he's talking about in this video.
Very cool orange guitar Joe is a cool guy I worked with his cousin Charlie in the 90's
I love Joe. I have done since I can remember.
what is that pedal that does this at 9:10?
It's the Digitech 33b, the rack unit he shows before.
Many of these rig rundowns feature lowly guitar techs, or the guitar players themselves who show little knowledge and even less enthusiasm about their gear. It's good to see Joe-a guitar player's player-walking us through his gear with hearty enthusiasm.
what's the name song at 8:01 ?
