Are you doing this job at a bird sanctuary? It is so relaxing to watch this video. Nature sounds take the stress away from working on engine. Next time I will take my motor to the forest and work there. That will help me not to kick, scream and swear when one bolt would not come out and stripped and work stops on its tracks. Thank you for posting all your how to videos. You help a lot of home mechanics.

Peter the correct procedure is to lock the vvt sprocket with air pressure. Look on the back side of the sprocket you'll see the hole that normally oil is used to control the variable valve timing. With a rubber tipped air gun pressurized to 20 psi this will give you the ability to rotate the sprocket independently to the cog face. As you rotate it it will snap into the locked zero position. There are marks on the the rear of the intake sprocket that will witness the assembly. Now your ready to set up your chain and exhaust and crank sprockets. Much easier and you'll be absolutely sure that your intake cam will be correctly installed. Hopefully this helps.

Note you are a true savior. Instructing them on the refurbished of motor technology. Good for you Peter and you're a blessing from God.

I have the rattle noise on cold startup for 1 second and then goes away on the Toyota Corolla 2015 with 80k kms on it which seems to be happening to a lot of people possibly because the locking pin is not locked when there is no oil pressure. But why does it not rattle when the engine is still warm? The oil pressure still drops when the ignition is turned off right?

Thanks for the video my outstanding tutor. IAM extremely worried. My chain tensioner was leaking oil ,so I took steps to correct the problem and installed it back. When releasing the chain tensioner so that it can hold the chain tightly, I made a mistake by turning the engine anti-clockwise. After a bit of turning, I heard two click sounds.I thought the two clicks come from the tensioner being released and when I checked it for sure the tensioner was released. After the tensioner was released I turned the engine clockwise and I observed there were other times the chain appeared to be loose and other times tight on top.The chain guide on the tensioner side appeared to be loose also other times.
My worry is: could those clicks be the timing chain jumping? How can I know if the chain jumped? If the jumped how can correct the problem? The engine is 1zz vvt-i Toyota and it has been working perfectly well.
Iam looking forward to your feedback at your earliest convenient time.
    George.

hi peter great videos helped me alot but im having a debate now with a friend, after we timed up my celica 1.8 vvti chainhe rotated the engine manually twice all the cam marks came back to the top and the crankshaft pulley was back where it started but the marks on the chain werent at the top, so now he thinks my timing is out, so my question is should the timing marks on the chain line up after two full turns of the crankshaft??????
