    Thank you for the confirmation, Peter! I knew from the past to need to change timing belts but when I checked into my 2000 Corolla, I was told it was needed. So I looked in here and found conflicting information about type of belt/chain or need to replace. I know to trust your videos and you confirmed what I was told in the first minute. Thanks again!

    Thanks Peter, I have a 2009 matrix 1.8 L I have been hearing a slight clatter in the region of the timing chain, I had a mechanic drive the car, he was trying to convince me it was something else. From what I learned in school, if the chain gets stretched the the toppets will clatter. Your video took me back to college days. Now I have to trouble shoot new error codes U0100 & C2123.

    GREAT video and I like how you make timing cams and crank for extra easy chain installation.
    My only concern and a great confusion point to many is that when you rotated the engine assembly and tried to line-up the yellow chain markings on the cams, it did not work.
    Reason is because engine was in a "false" TDC (as in 360⁰ out of phase with correct cams). If you had continued to rotate the assembly, the paint markings you made would have been directly oppostive of each other instead of touching/aligned.
    Again: GREAT video!

      Like he says, it might take a 100 rotations or so for that chain to fall in those yellow spots again, those marks are for 1st time timing chain installation only and doesn't mean they are going to fall in the timing Marks every rotation.

Iso kiitos!

Since I have to take the Cam shaft off to access the valve stems I'm going to be replacing the whole timing assembly from both upper sprockets to the crank sprocket... I also have the chain tensioner and chain guides... When it all goes back together do I follow these steps? And also what would be the torque specs for the bolt for the crank sprocket and for the Cam sprockets.. Thank you in advance.. And great videos by the way... Its possible to change it while the engine is in the car, you rotate the engine to the chain link is on top then you attach the new chain to the old chain and rotate the engine so the new chain is replacing the old on smoothly while rotating the engine around.

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  7 лет назад +1

      Yes. And The most important point is, that those three timing marks(two in camshaft and one in crankshaft) are in the same positions when I rotate timing chain some full rotations. This is the key point.

    • @shaunkiss1518
      @shaunkiss1518 7 лет назад +1

      Ok Thank you, I had to do the same thing and pull back on that VVT sprocket to line up the yellow chain link. My cams were in the same postion as yours and the crankshaft marks were lined up down bottom. If the alignment was off a tooth lets say, does the VVT help correct the valve timing anyway?

  • @LSmiata
    @LSmiata 7 лет назад

    Sorry. False TDC as compared to length of cam chain and trying to get alignment via yellow markings on chain (GREAT Toyota feature!)
