I agree with Asmon on Uniques being Pinnacle Content. It brings me back to the old days of like the N64 Era where you beat the game and unlock the cheat menu or something. "Congrats, you beat the end of the game and beat the secret boss. There's no challenge left, so here's Bobble Head, Infinite Ammo, Invincibility, Enemies explode into Confetti, Super Speed, and all enemies are dinosaurs modes!" It's like "Cool, you beat every challenge we had to offer. Now have some stupid goofy fun as thanks for playing the game!" It's something you don't see often these days and I miss it.
That was back in the day when the company got all it's profit from the initial sale, and if it was good, sequals. That was also the time when the game was more likely to be a finished product by the time we got it. That slowly faded as release dates became more important than quality. Case in point, we spent $70+ to be beta testers. 1 whale is worth more than the fishing village.

@@arcticstriker7377you win sir. All these staunch defenders of Blizzard when they release a game half done and the other half are boring artificial bloats and/or limitations.
I’ll translate the whole thing for you: We had no plans for season one at launch. We focussed on making the base game the best it could be after the beta tests and player feedback. We had no idea what to do for season one while you guys were playing the game. We made a few more tweaks to the game and wrote some more code. We made several different versions of seasonal content and tested each version on a test server and found that the balance wouldn’t work with the seasonal content. So rather than change seasonal content we wrote more code and nerfed everything. Now we have implemented the rush job of seasons into the game our code looks like a big bowl of spaghetti. This is why you can have just one stash tab and why there are memory problems with the game. Now we can fix this but we will need a few weeks to sort it as we have to unravel the spaghetti, sort it all out, balance the game, sort out all the bugs we put in with all the new code we put in as well as keep an eye on what you are all up to in season one. But rest assured we will fix this. We just have no idea how right now.
Or even shorter version. “We don’t know our own game well enough to balance it, the community is pissed because we nerfed the only ~viable~ builds and we have no idea how to fix this buy please don’t leave us”
I always found "balance" the factor that killed D3 for me. They released soo many patches "balancing" the game, which made story mode unplayable, coz everything died so quickly.. it was just a pointless few hours run to "endgame" content. Why can't they create a version for story that is just balanced or the "vanilla" and create a new version with idk "buffs/nerf' status effects that will simply fit the weird twists they planning on introducing to seasonal content. Doesn't have to be even version. At the creation screen you should have option for "Campain" no changes to characters and "Seasonal" where "buffs/nerf" are applied to classes...
I mean the easiest fix is just nerfing chars on the seasonal realms (just adding defuffs for each class no extra coding) and bam seasonal servers are balanced and people on eternals don't get shafted...
Yep - Beta 'tests': all two of them. Can anyone spot the problem here? We're so used to excrement launches that when a game actually works we seem to forget that it's not a reason to light fireworks. Poor, poor, and poor!

My biggest concern is the decision making process that led to them thinking it was a great idea to nerf current characters in preparation for nerfs to content difficulty months later. Quite frankly, it seems highly unlikely anyone would make that conclusion and it feels more like they are grasping for excuses to explain away decisions that the player base reacted poorly to. A reasonable person would have nerfed character damage and content difficulty simultaneously if that was truly the original intent.
I find it baffling how they are adjusting the difficulty levels to that extent AFTER they released the game, of course little tweaks here and there are normal, but my god seems like they have no idea what they’re doing, just blindly making changes in hopes it’ll sort itself out.

Which WILL NOT WORK under the current Blizzard direction, monetary systems forcing changes to make the game worse/grindy, and a lack of understanding about what all those other games and ARPGs did.
@@italianspiderman5012 It had to be done after release since Blizzard had no way of knowing which metas would form and around which builds. And since most if not all of the top tier builds demand you to apply vulnurability to the mobs to make a dent most other builds become useless- this is why the nerf happened. The nerfs were also meant to be accompanied by nerf to NMD70-100, but it got delayed, which makes it look like all Blizzard wanted to do was nerf us for no reason when in reality they wanted to bring *everything* back in line so they can push buffs for specs that are currently underutilized. As an example it might now be viable to run a blood spear build instead of bone spear build on necro- now that there is a really good aspect for it and now that vulnurability isn't as powerful. The fact that they just rolled all of this out without first telling anyone though is really bad communication and the backlash (though a bit overblown imo) is well deserved.

I didn't, I'm only coming here to understand why people still get scammed after all the mayhem Blizz has caused over the past years. Seems gamers have Stockholm syndrome. That prevents game industry to raise their standards if players like to eat shit all day and ask for more.
This season 1 is gonna hold this game back of what could have been a triumph for Blizzard in years. Getting people to play again after they quit is way harder than keeping existing players.

@@Giliverdude. Think bigger. It isn't that this seemingly small change is itself intolerable. It's the principle as to why they made such a change and how pervasive those principles are in the overall game design. They want to slow you down. That's antithetical to the fun and alure of arpgs. That small change is simply the final straw. Stop simping. Actually think through your own thoughts before you react. You aren't getting paid for hot takes.
The problem with Necro minion builds is that it's the inverse of multiplicative damage. If you are just about any other build you get to do 100% of your damage, or a relatively close number to all of your targets. When you play minions, your damage is primarily divided into your minions amongst the number of targets you're facing. Combine this with the fact that you can not direct your minions towards a target, and you get a build that's worthless & frustrating.
I've found that my damage as a minion build necro vs 1 target is perfectly fun to play. My experience when facing a multitude of enemies, often times combined with a specific enemy that needs to be downed first, which is 80%% of the gameplay, I am constantly frustrated.
This is why the necro minion build in D3 had it's ability cast to focus your skeletons to attack a target. The set bonus for it made it become unlmited duration and jumps to another target when it's dead. The ability let you redirect them to a specific target. Simple fix: replace the "priest buffing" when at max skeletons to "direct skeletons to attack", no corpse needed. Or even just add the function that when you use the ability on an enemy instead of a corpse it directs them (don't even need to touch the priest part). Maybe add an aspect that makes them stay in focused attack and auto-re-target to another nearby enemy when the target dies. This would make minions fun to play again.
I hate the fact that they wanna nerf cooldowns, but make every damn character have abilities that you wanna burst out for as much damage as quickly as possible. Meaning there is like 20 seconds often times in between triggers without cooldown reductions. That's insane. If they wanna have long as cooldown times like in WoW then they need to have a spell rotation for these classes.

upper management at blizzard just has no idea what's going on. they learned nothing from diablo 3. diablo 4 offers very little in terms of groundbreaking features compared to previous titles, missing many features previous titles had, and is riddled with so many bugs. upper management coinflipped d4's design repeatedly, putting it into development hell for years, then forced it out the door before it was ready. they did the same thing with diablo 3. they did the same thing with overwatch 2. we as a community are having to actively co-design their game for them because upper management is actively screwing up every game the devs make.

Same shit happened with slag in borderlands 2. You introduce a status effect that is just an unconditional damage increase for all damage types to enemies affected by it, and then act surprised when it becomes almost necessary in the late game? Are they really that clueless? Honestly their best bet is to make vulnerable do something else entirely because I feel like they’re taking enemies being vulnerable into account when balancing things
The first time I found one of those barrels that explodes into vuln and it hit an enemy I went wow I literally one shot them with no 3 stack imbued Barrage, this seems fair. Removed some points to try Shadow Imbue for the vuln AoE and yeah this stat needs to be removed immediately or only Vulnerability builds will be playable let alone viable. Blizzard will see 4 people hitting insane end game dungeons and go wow cool then nerf everything except Vuln so you're forced to take it, get used to it now

If there is some deeper thought behind it, something that is supposed to have a long-term effect on the game's balance, well, then I am able to accept it. The players will forget in a while. But for them to say such things now that they never intend to repeat it again just because the response was negative shows how they themselves don't really know what direction the game is going in.

If you watch all these D4 content creators they all are saying that this mess is a god tier change and everything is saved. Asmon can just call their bullshit because he knows he will have an audience without the game.
Blizzard seems to understand that lots of players do certain things, and that certain content required those certain things. But instead of addressing the why they addressed the what. Blizzards line of thinking is: CDR was a stat everyone tried to maximize, because content was hard and you needed to access your skills more; so should we balance the content difficulty correctly, of course not; we should nerf CDR. Why fix the reason people were relying on it when we can just make it worse and people won’t want to rely on it… oh wait, now people don’t want to play our game🤦

One thing I can assure you is that this will not be the last time the room full of suits messes things up. It never is
Their response to vulnerable being overpowered is like they did their first alpha test 2 days ago. This game was in development for years. I don’t understand the constant optimism and defense of incompetence like this. It’s like a car manufacturer producing square wheels on their vehicles after 7+ years of design with extensive testing and they manufactured it anyways. Then, 2 months later they realize it’s bad design but could have never fathomed the square wheels were bad to begin with. Mind boggling tbh.
11 Years in development my ass. I still think it was planned as a immortal kind of game and alot of stuff like the stash and other QOL things were planned behind the paywall. But than Overwatch 2 bombed and nobody liked immortal so they had to change alot of stuff in D4. They can't afford another flop. That's the time that was sopposed to go into balacing and other qol things that are just missing now. Gem stash for season 2 should be done in a 2 day hotfix. Respecced yesterday and paid over 4 million. Took me 20 min...fun Time. Deleting the paragon board shoul be a 1 day hotfix or already in the game on day 1. I'm so done with this game.
For once, I just wish someone at blizzard would please play their own game. From StarCraft, to Warcraft, to World of Warcraft, to Diablo 3, to Overwatch, to Heartstone, to Heroes of the Storm, to Diablo Immortal, and now Diablo 4, not a single human being that developed these games EVER played them, not even for a handful of minutes. It’s almost as if they’re disgusted by their own creations. Had any of them played the game, they would’ve understood the good and the bad of it, and then made sensible adjustments to improve, not worsen, the player experience. Had these ppl played Diablo 4, none of this would have happened.
I played Diablo 3 back when it first came out and they pulled the same kinda crap back then too. I remember one day my Monk is punching super-duper fast and it felt awesome, then they pulled out a patch that nerfed the equipment my Monk had so now he noticeably punched slower. It just felt bad.
the only bad factor for this is that they would HAVE to be repeatable. then to top it off what if you pulled a 100% shitty role on this uber unique that took you a couple weeks to a month to complete? thus making that long climb worthless.
@@chriscalliss5999 consider the new staff unique is a uber unique of sucky proportions (the legendary affix is terribad) so its a stat stick that could have been litterally any other legendary but now you get the joy of a random shrine effect for 10 seconds (minimum roll) after killing an elite (where you have a 1 in 7 chance of getting the conduit shrine effect arguably the best one but will more often than not just get a greed gold buff). it cannot happen more than once every 30 seconds and being a staff can roll with 2x the undesirable stats for the relevant class (you can under d4 pull ubers from other classes even if you cant use it). now also consider that they have mobs spaced so far apart that you might murder an elite but a shrine buff for 10 seconds isnt gonna have you killing hordes of anything. where an actual legendary affix is applied for most of the fight time. with 1 handers you can offset if one is kinda bad and the other is good and have 2 legendary affixes to boot. how thrilled would you be to have what is essentially a rare blacksmithing junk skin made of dog shit? this gear affix even exists in diablo 3 and outside of early game days has been junked hard ever since then for its materials unless it was a shrug of "eh well i aint got nothing else" shrug. so its not like it is this fancy new uber shrine buff. thats what staff users just got gifted as their season 1 uber unique should anyone actually get one to drop. now imagine if you worked weeks to roll the slots and that fell out and its likely another few weeks till you can cha-ching a new pity pull. they want to keep these ubers very uncommon after all. sorry lots of edits
@Everlucky_Clover yeah that makes sense. But that's also quite easy to solve though if you simply remove the stat randomness from the item or perhaps add a crafting material that can upgrade your rolls to Max.
@@chriscalliss5999 very true as well (outside of the staff above) you could even argue that you cant max it but being reasonably attainable 1-2 set chances per season could actually atleast make the ubers build viable. heck i would even go so far as to make the quest one non blacksmith-able (like the chapter 1 necklace) so you have to get a full odds one for the skin. this way it retains its rarity of being not easily cranked out and making the skin a reward of luck instead of the item period being a frustration for collect-a-holics
I personally think they should extract legendary powers when you salvage the item, and they get added to their own stash in the codex, poor rolls ones should be able to be combined to improve the roll, to give the weak ones a use. this way you can just salvage everything and not look at it, then look at you codex powers individually and see what ones have ones that are well rolled or ones that can be combined to make good rolls. would still need a loot filter for other stats however.
I do want to push back on the "everything being buffed is bad" stance. If that was the case, idle games and clickers wouldnt have the fanbases they do. Sure, if WHAT you are doing isnt fun, it doesnt matter whether the number is 17 or 422TreD (Tredecillion) It's why I like NGU Idle and Tap Titan 2, the changing of builds to push those higher tiers, and getting challenges completed and working on more than (Do more damage, maybe fight 3 strong bosses) that Diablo's been doing. Path of Exile's success comes from OPTIONS at the late-game level. Not that the numbers aren't hitting insane amounts
It depends on the gametype. The buff everything already happened in ARPS, as the biggest example being D3. A mix of buffs and nerfs are needed, with small powercreep being expected over time. Main goal is for the player to feel powerful while making the game feel challenging. For whole appeal for idle clicker is to see number go up without the gameplay part.
It's chasing the wrong addiction. No one was hitting for billions in the games that made this franchise famous. You couldn't even run in diablo 1, and it's STILL more fun than D4. Just, figure it out 🤷♂️
@@daniellewandowski6945 The main part of an idle, sure, is to see the number go up. But if you're playing a good one and not a "let's make money" pos, there's other things too, like 100% collecting the gear in NGU Idle's adventure mode, or the goddamned Cat Challenge. My only problem I had with D3, was there was nothing to do once you beat story and got past Paragon 800, besides grind out GRs until you stopped playing. I do like the Nightmare dungeon they added, and the S28 Altar system gave another thing to work on, but I never once thought the numbers were part of the problem. D4 is showing this exact example, all the numbers are lower (arguement for certain UL-capable builds, but even then), but the balancing still is an issue. Blizzard's problems have never been the damage itself, it's been tackling balancing compared to itself, and lack of sustainable content. (Diablo specifically, I dont care about WoW or Hearthstone)
I really dont hope they add some Infinite endgame shit as well. I love Lilith and bosses like that - we defo need more stuff like this. :D I agree with the point that "when its finished, its finished".
2 second increase on the cast time for leaving a dungeon, across millions of players, adds up to hundreds of hours of playtime a day. It's all about playtime analytics. Adding 2 seconds to the horse sprint cooldown pisses me off far more though.
And on top of all this shit going on with the game, the cheapest version of it is *fucking* $70. From what I've seen in gameplay videos and reviews, it seems like it's worth maybe $40ish

I’ll translate the whole thing for you:
We had no plans for season one at launch.

@@trevorperschy4582 It is absolutely wild how much you guys will defend and make excuses for.
upper management at blizzard just has no idea what's going on. they learned nothing from diablo 3. diablo 4 offers very little in terms of groundbreaking features compared to previous titles, missing many features previous titles had, and is riddled with so many bugs. upper management coinflipped d4's design repeatedly, putting it into development hell for years, then forced it out the door before it was ready. they did the same thing with diablo 3. they did the same thing with overwatch 2. we as a community are having to actively co-design their game for them because upper management is actively screwing up every game the devs make.
and yet they made a ton of money with this failure, bc some people never learn and still bought that "game".
It's almost as if the people who actually worked on past Blizzard games are not around anymore...
The development cycle must have been hell for them to put out such an unfinished game
@@andresgonzalez5676 that's the downside of getting too big. the suits arent directly involved with the games anymore. they just make all the (usually bad) executive decisions that makes the developers look poorly and punishes the fanbase/community.
Idk man, it’s not like developers are blameless here, they should speak up and I’m not sure if they do, do they even care? I don’t think so at this point, everything they do is about player retention, to manipulate you, take advantage of you, you think higher ups are designing all those systems?
Man, I love having zero investment into anything Blizzard has ever made and a bucket of popcorn. Things have been great for a while.

"We know it's bad and we know it's not fun." Wow. Says it all right there.
Act man: D4 is too easy! It should be way more challenging.
Monkey's Paw: Curls a finger.
Challenging content is not the same as just making everything take long and making everyone do less damage.
I think more than anything actman was angry at the entire game filled with grindable trash mobs and relatively few/weak bosses.
To amswer actmans complaint would require ALL enemy designs changed, which would then also need player power adjusted.... Which is NOT what the update did.
@vissermatt1058
You don't know what the monkey's paw is, do you?
@@vissermatt1058 I don't think blizzard's nerfs had anything to do with act man's criticism in reality.
A monkey's paw is a fictional wish-granting item that will grant any wish it is asked, but always through methods that are worse off.
Example: A woman wishes she had $5000 right away. Her loving husband ends up dying in a workplace accident, and the worker's comp insurance sends her a check for $5000. It's always a situation that makes you regret wishing, there's never a reason to wish on a monkey's paw because it will always be worse off in the end.
And its kinda what happened, like there was a monkey's paw under act man's desk he didn't know about when he was making his video
devs have pretty high dodge stats
edit: i feel they are relying on cc and 'numbers difficulty' so much because they can't come up with creatively difficult enemies/mechanics. I mean half the mobs feel like they're just copied from past diablo games anyway?
I love how he said the dungeon teleport time was a "small difference" but its literally almost double the amount of time it happened before. Totally avoided the question too. I have no idea why. RIP Asmon giving them the idea of portal cosmetics...

Choice, soon.
"The guys that are watching this live... They aren't wearing pants" - I don't think anyone could have put that better.
"We'll never do a patch like this again." - Devs who stated in a previous stream they would buff rather than nerf going forwards.
"We didn't plan on slowing progress down, but then we realized that nerfing damage and experience slowed down progress. But that wasn't our intention." - Devs who are making themselves seem like they either lied or they're incompetent.
I get that some of the creators who live off D4 want to search for positives, and there were a few, but god DAMN the sheer amount of bullshit and dodging in this was insane.

Being crowd controlled is bad not just because it is too much, but it's also the unfairness of it. Take for example the cold stun in some nmds. As a sorcerer, I could do a frost nova, and there's a long cool down before I can use it again. Sometimes the frost nova don't even work as intended coz the elites are somehow now 'unstoppable". But these same elites can induce cold stun with every hit, no cooldowns needed. Like wtf.

They should add 2 types of content to me end game wise. 1 being a “endless tides” kinda deal that sends waves at you or your group with bosses every 10. And the higher end ones have Bosses from previous games etc that have low drop rate but do have a chance to drop Uber uniques. These dungeons are for level 100s. Then possibly adding raids, or storyline based dungeons that don’t affect the overall story but tell smaller stories going forward that you might not get to know about if you don’t read content or play this content. Same way side quests do this
endless tides ??? yes we need this.
Infinite helltides and repeatable strongholds would be a nice addition imo
Let's be real ALL aspects we take out of gear should go to our OWN codex of power separate from the dungeon one and BOTH should get a search function.

Yeah I built my rogue around it.
Imagine that...
@jacksonboyd8630 ah yes good old slag.
Blizzard will see 4 people hitting insane end game dungeons and go wow cool then nerf everything except Vuln so you're forced to take it, get used to it now
@@jacksonboyd8630 I don't think anybody was surprised about slag. iirc Slag was quite literally intended to be mandatory in higher NGs. Like the game might have actually directly said it's necessary.

On the one hand, I understand the negative response from players, but what frustrates me the most is when developers make changes that they are not convinced about.

Q: "Why did you increase the cast time to teleport out of dungeons from three seconds to five seconds?"
A: "We added back the reset dungeon button, but you have to be outside the dungeon to use it. So there is a loop there."
It is becoming increasingly clear how much developers are being hamstrung by people who make strictly business decisions. The storage spacer issue proves it best. Likewise, it was shown by the answer (or, in fact, the lack of it) regarding the extension of teleport time from the dungeon
Yep, exactly. These guys are middle management in this equation. THEY didn't make those patch decisions. I can tell by their faces and tone that they didn't. Those changes likely came from a room full of suits who don't even play the game. Those guys probably told that room full of suits that it isn't a good idea. Suits being suits said "I don't care. Market metrics show we need to make x, y, and z happen no matter what." Changes are made and it crashed and burned. Then the suits send the scapegoats(middle management) out to put out the fires. They were using corpo speak because they WANTED to talk shit but they also want to keep their jobs. These guys don't want the game to be shitty. They are literally dedicating this portion of their lives to it. However, they don't get carte blanche because it is a massive corporation. One thing I can assure you is that this will not be the last time the room full of suits messes things up. It never is
Vulnerable damage feels like the clutch claw (Monster Hunter world) equivalent of a mechanic.
Clutch claw was pretty cool though.
More like slag in borderlands 2
Clutch claw killed world and iceborne , I can never play world again because the changes the clutch claw did to monster behavior
It's like their balance philosophy is made for a completely different genre

The game would really benefit from having epic chain quests for uniques like they have in wow for thunderfury
the only bad factor for this is that they would HAVE to be repeatable. then to top it off what if you pulled a 100% shitty role on this uber unique that took you a couple weeks to a month to complete? thus making that long climb worthless.
@Everlucky_Clover im not that familiar with uber uniques. But aren't they powerful enough that having a good or bad roll isn't that big of a deal ?

Sure, if WHAT you are doing isnt fun, it doesnt matter whether the number is 17 or 422TreD (Tredecillion)
It's why I like NGU Idle and Tap Titan 2, the changing of builds to push those higher tiers, and getting challenges completed and working on more than (Do more damage, maybe fight 3 strong bosses) that Diablo's been doing.
