idk dude I really disagree about itemization. Quin had a great point that instead of saying Whirlwind does X, they can say channeling skills, which would work for probably every single class in some way. FUN and DEEP itemization doesn't need to be PoE level complexity. General power bonuses > specific power bonuses. It literally wouldn't do a difference to casual players but would make the world and open up SO MANY more builds for the more hardcore audience.

  • @eckology016

The issue with the itemization is not the lack of complexity, it's that it's boring for casual players and hardcore players alike with all the distant enemies/healthy enemies/nearby enemies stuff that has no resonance. Who's going to try and figure out how to optimize that if they're casual. Whereas if it said 40% increased fire damage, and they use a fire skill, well goddamn, that's an upgrade, let's equip that! The itemization in D4 is sorta like Ziz's critique of the respec system not working for casual players in a game designed to be accessible. Having more illustrative and topdown itemization with plus stats, plus crit chance, plus % damage to specific elements, plus critical hit damage, all that stuff is easy to understand for people who've played any video games at all.

    • @PowerNGlory
      @PowerNGlory Год назад +4

You don't have to figure out how to optimize if you are casual. If you are casual you are not going to care about any of that stuff. Want to know why? Because I am casual. I did the same thing with Diablo 3. Just killed a lot of enemies while listening to music or a podcast I was catching up on. Gave 2 shits about any of the math. Just did what I felt was right or what I thought was interesting. Ziz is wrong there in thinking any of that is what a casual player cares about. He really needs to understand what the word casual means.

But the fact i went from a 40 dmg shortbow to a 130 dmg rare crossbow and it felt like it made almost no difference of overall dmg was like a big let off. Why does scaling even exist at that point? Why does dmg even need to display on items if its not going to matter whatsoever?
I understand that the extra stats and bonuses are just as important, but at least give me sense of upgrade when the next weapon i pickup displays more dmg than the current weapon i have.
Ive played diablo 3 and other arpg's for a bit and even there you felt the upgrade of dmg of the next better weapon you found, even when its going from a common weapon to a another common weapon.

You can't justify game costs by just looking at inflation and costs to make the game, the amount of games sold and cutting out physical distribution should offset game prices.

    • @BizzMRK
      @BizzMRK Год назад +2

it is probably fair to assume that it won't include anyhting beyond cosmetics the first few seasons, but as soon as game sales and player numbers drop they will likely trickle in more aggressive monetisation. Also wouldn't be suprised if new classes need to be bought seperately and if they put them at the end of the battlepass so they can claim you can get it for free if you grind for 2 months to get it, which they actually already do in OW2 with new heroes, so it is not even far fetched.

I think the legendary effects could be done in a better way then what we saw for sure. Adding massive dmg increases feels rly cheap and "forces" you to play something u might not even want to play just cus thats the items u got from the game. If I make a barb and I hate to play bleed builds but I end up finding something that makes my bleed deal 100% more dmg I feel forced to play that even if I hate it just cus its gonna be so much better then all my other options. BUT i think it can still be done in a way so u feel tempted/interested to try out new things, lets say i play light sorc and i find a item that say "every 3rd hydra cast will become free of cost" that might be enough to make me want to experiment with that skill cus it sounds nice but not forced.

    • @AlmostProGaming
      @AlmostProGaming Год назад +3

@@Jackex LOL no... That's not how that works. The stats are all that matters. Item level is just what determines roll chances for stats. For a figurative example: A ring with iLvl 50 could have something like anywhere between 2%-10% cold damage increase. But a iLvl 70 could probably have something like 3%-15% cold damage increase. So sure the higher level ring has a better chance at getting a better roll, but a item with lower item level could still roll decent. You might get really lucky with that first ring at lvl 50 and it has the max +10% cold dmg, but then every ring you find after, despite being a higher level, just rolls like +9% or lower because you didn't get as lucky when it rolled. So iLVL does not = dmg, it just means a better chance at higher rolls for stats on the item.

The thing about making cosmetics the main monetization method, i feel like part of the fun of a game and looting new armor is getting a new armor that looks cool, and then on to the next one. If you buy a cosmetic in D4, what is the interest in getting another new one if you spent the money on one already? When the cosmetics had no monetary value, you feel more inclined to replace the piece with something new and better looking. Realistically if you have one character, are you going to be reusing old purchases much? Or is it just drain money? Idk, people are going to play and accept it no matter what but my perspective is that cosmetics are not interactive at all. I'm starting to just have no hope for live service in video games. We squeezed the toothpaste from the bottle and it's not going back in, I'll happily stick with my offline-singleplayer experiences until they are no longer being developed. I've been enjoying Elden ring and I might just replay that and try new builds. And JRPG galore, need to get back into Persona 5. I was a late bloomer on those. I'm kind of glad I have hobbies outside of gaming too. My favorite online games are competitive shooters and these games are more store than they are game at this point, so my mileage has diminished greatly. And I guess I'm just not interested in complaining anymore, I'm just not giving it anymore of my energy, I'm just not willing to give in to the monetization practices, full stop.

the armour looked like potato sacks, I am sure there will be some okay legendary and sets, but they are going to look bad by comparison. This is the only reason why we have this form of multiplayer instead of D3, so you can run into randos and be struck in awe by how good a spender looks and be motivated to not look like a hobo. Knowing the gaming industry, they will likely push spenders into groups with non-spenders just to reinforce how bad the non-spenders look.

What about horror games, are they not worth $60 because they are 8-10 hours long? The truth is this, companies are seeing unprecedented PROFITS due to microtransactions. There is no actual need for them to increase the price to $70 since they're making more PROFIT than ever even with inflation and the cost to make games going up.

Everyone's got this take that legendries are too build defining, as if the codex of power doesn't exist, and even while leveling, you'll have infinite access to ALL of your builds legendries just by going to the specific dungeons.
The beta was limited to one act, and because of that was limited to the dungeons of said act and the codex powers they awarded, that's not going to be the case in the real game, you'll be able to go to every zone and unlock every codex power before even being max level, so you'll never not have your ideal build baseline.
You don't have to unlock each act to go the respective areas.

POE on the other hand, F2P game, sure, was absolute terrible trash when it launched first, still looks awful to the vast majority of people (do not even try to argue that, i get that people who're playing POE are fine with how it looks, that's why they still play it), has bad optimization etc. And also all my friends who played POE did microtransactions despite them being quite poor and the game being F2P, just cuz POE microtransactions provide actual quality of life improvement. The money/time invested into developing d4 can't be compared to POE. That's why one game has 70$ pricetag, other one depends on microtransactions which try to seem not predatory. That does not mean POE is not a good game tho, it is, but it's not AAA product. D4 is AAA product on other hand, however we don't rly know yet if it's gonna be a good AAA product.
So to sum it up: i don't see how that take is somehow bad, people spend different amounts of money for entertainment purposes, the limits are those you set by yourself. If you're not poor i literally do not see how 70$ for hunders of hours of entertainment exceeds your set limits, that just sounds absurd to me. It also is not like the 70$ pricetag is somehow unfair given the avg market price for AAA products nowadays. People literally spend that amount of money for some good alcohol in one day for short-term entertainment which also is harmful to your health in long-term perspective. In which world 70$ is not fine for AAA game with that potential for it becoming hundreds of hours of fun? It also is not like they did some false marketing like it happened with Cyberpunk/No man's sky etc. They literally had open free beta where literally everyone could see if the game looks fine for them or not to decide if they're willing to invest.

When you buff/heal the skellies there is a green bar on the summon icon that will keep track of the six second duration for you. When it runs out, just reapply. It's quick and simple, so I can see how some people missed it, but it's exactly because it's simple that I like it. I DO NOT want a zillion additional effects on my screen to keep track of through the haze of existing special effects and enemies attack clues. Bad enough that I had to stop using the dark corpse explosion because it obscured everything during fights.

I might be late to the party, but on the topic of the complexity of itemization: I think the "spreadsheet" itermization type that hardcores like is absolutely compatible with casual players. All it takes is to have item sets. They did it very poorly in D3, but if sets are what they need to be, aka. less optimized versions of specific builds, then it's completely fine.
Basically I'd like to see white/blue/green sets, to give some early side effect bonuses and break the "up arrow" alienation that is the early game...
Later on, it's 100% ok to have cosmetic sets, with some small added bonuses that are in fact just the poorman version of legendaries (not to mention sacred+ items).
(oh and sets should never be class locked of course...)

To be fair, it is crazy that POE is about as high quality as any diablo game, is free to play with primarily cosmetics in the shop, and they constantly provide additional content for the game. Just goes to show that is possible, and that the entertainment value per dollar spent is infinitely higher than diablo. The fact is that a game can be free, fair, AND profitable if it is good,. The solution to "required items" for a build is not removing those items, but having more items that are competitive with that item for the same build. For example:
Gloves: Gives 1 additional head for hydra
Gloves: Hydras instead fire a laser that penetrates through enemies
Gloves: Hydras fire a magical orb that seeks out the nearest enemy and explodes into a fiery inferno
Gloves: You hydra now has only one head but gains a full body of a hydra and becomes a permanent pet follower that can move.
This way people have to choose. You would have to make it so the power can only be moved to glove items.

Personally I think that's less because d4s system isn't boring. But rather because poes system is too busy sniffing it's own farts to even consider accessibility. With so many different convoluted factors that you'll spend atleast three times more time with poe theory crafting and doing research, than playing the game let alone doing actual combat.
However when you compare d4 itemization and builds vs games that actually do it right. Like path of diablo diablo 2 mod. To balance the game. Or like last epoch. Which has plenty of issues as it's in early access. But itemization and building isn't one of them.
Then it's more of a good comparison in my mind.
It's like saying I like d4s itemization because it isn't d3s. Well anything is better than d3s. And the only way in hell you'll like poes CURRENT (not 4 years ago) systems is if literally all you care about is complexity. And the more of it the better no matter what, THEN it's good. That's my take on that matter anyway and I think that having force move on the thumb mouse button is working like a charm for me. I would argue aswell that when it comes to the cosmetic part Blizzard showed some screenshot of the gear you can have both with and without paying and as far as I can tell it's a matter of taste but you can have some pretty badass gear without putting any $ in the cosmetics. According to the dollar per hour valuation system, if an individual buys D4 on sale for 40 dollars and they spend 70hrs in game does that mean their purchase is more valuable than the person who spent 70 and played 70hrs? It does not. Because the price paid is still the price paid and the hours of entertainment is still the same hours of entertainment.
Dollar per hour valuation is mental gymnastics to cope with the purchase cost.
The cost of videogames is purely arbitrary set by a publisher because their buisness deparment has the metrics to support the game will sell at X price. Simple As.

The problem he has with thr ui yku could be that he isn't used to it and it isn't like the ui of other games and his idea for the legendaries aspects is stupid because it means less choices for the players instead of each channeling skills have it own powers every would just be picking the best channeling powers it will kinda be like the support gems in poe where every channeling skill picks infuse has an example
And they have already said there is a pinnacle boss that you can fight ar lvl 100 plus some time of Uber mob guardian some chest in helltide

Sea of Thieves has a Customization model as their motivator. Years ago, they promised that the shop sets wouldnt outweigh the in-game rewards. Now all they push is Emporium (store) items and give a re-color of an old clothing set for the 100th time to work toward. Also ship cosmetics are almost enitrely in the shop. I get that the game needs money to survive, but there needs to be a balance.

6:11 That's a weird take, in D2 you can see all the trees skills and read all you want about whirlwind or frozen orb but it's not until you actually hit 35+ that you can actually see and feel the absolute awesomeness of those skills, so this idea that you can determine how good a game is when you are only lvl 25 is kinda BS if you ask me.

you know what really me dislike the itemization? honestly the issues isn't even what people are saying, is the fact that they said blues will have better stats than rares. Like... okay wtf does that have to do with anything when no one will ever even use it even if they have better stats than rares when you can put legndary aspect onto rares and make them great. I prefer them to do something to this too where you can somehow turning blue into rares which compete the items you can personally create or at least have some of the "all items are any rarity have values" statment they said when they announced the game.

1:00:53 "Diablo 4 is being made for a casual audience" and it's working!! I played the closed beta on my pc, loved it and thought "my wife might actually like this" so during open beta I asked her to play with me on her Xbox, using my birthday as leverage lol. she was hesitant at first but within the first hour of us playing together on the couch she was in love!! I can count all the games she enjoys playing on one hand,
    1. the sims
    2. rocket league
    3. red dead 2 (because she can have a horse)
    4. Halo infinite
    5. Diablo 4
and guess what? everything else is boring now all she wants to play is D4, Blizzards plan is working, too well in fact, two preorders one household😅 ouch but I'm looking forward to playing a game we both can enjoy!!

about level scaling. Nice to have "challenge" in starting locations? But what if you get lucky drop legendary which increase dps of your character by 100? Double hydra? "Challenge" killed. So we need ITEM SCALING. How about that? Get +1 hydra staff? => monsters have 2x hp. This is next level design, take notes blizz

The interface takes into account couch co-op on console, which either player can open there inventory screen. Each player has half the screen. It works ridiculously well. The whole co-op experience is really awesome. But that’s probably why the UI looks so bad on PC.

You could find an option in the "emote" wheel (E). Another way is open the map with TAB and click the entrance of the dungeon and it teleports you to the outside just where the entrance is. Or simply open the map select the entire area and use a teleport to any that you have already opened. I've noticed that on some dungeons (those in the main quest I believe) didn't have the option in the wheel available though.

People flipping out about a $10 increase in game price have to have an average age range of 13 and 20. Snes games were generally $50-$60 at release, which equates to over $100 now with inflation, for games that have 10 hours of content, or less.

At some point Asmon needs to acknowledge that blizzard had been so egregiously ass backwards as both people and a company that he shouldn't be shocked at all that some people feel utterly gaslit beyond reason.
And for most they need to look no further than Diablo Immortal.
Shelling out money just to be gaslit once again would be infuriating. So no shit they want them to sign in triplicate when they ask them to say explicitly that it won't be pay to win

@@gonzalocornejo9267 I'm sure it's there under the surface, and he hasn't write realized it. Under normal circumstances I would actually agree with him, but this is a case of a company who's reputation for exploitation and bad management practices have gone so far beyond the pale, it's really hard to trust just negate they said so. They are not people who you can blindly take at their word, no matter how many times you force them to say it. It's not been long enough for them to show any level of reform that would cause someone to reevaluate how they view them as a company, and I think for many of us, D4 is now their litmus test. Will they stick to their word? Will they deliver exactly what they promised? Or will they prove once again, they care more about money than their own integrity?
