Which of you residents has seen Gorgo before? What did you make of it?
- Alastair
Wow
Nice video
Me I came to know about gorgo when I mistyped "Orga" as "Ogra"
Alastair have you or anybody at Dangerville seen Raiga series of movies
@@paulmiller7185 I did
Gorgo in my opinion is an underrated giant monster movie.
True that and his size in the 1961 film was confirmed to be 300+ ft. which is almost as big as Legendary's Godzilla. Plus the movie is pretty awesome! With destruction scenes that is just chef's kiss! 👌💯
IT IS A GREAT FILM IN MY OPINION
Extremely
Yeah
Agreed!
The fight with Gorgo would go pretty much like Godzilla's fight with Titanosaurus without the tail fin generating wind. Initially Godzilla would battle Mama Gorgo but then he would side with her once he figured out what the problem was.
I'd like to she her fight Titanosaurus
Yeah
Never underestimate an enraged mother.
Yeah, and Godzilla would probably be demolishing her in combat before he finds out.
I think
@@Goku49 Well that part is a given. But also Godzilla isn't stupid and would figure things out pretty fast especially if Ogra can convey to Godzilla that her child is in danger and he senses other things going on like Little Gorgo penned up crying out for mommy. You know Godzilla would intervene as he has acted as the protector of the good and peaceful kaiju
Gorgo was one of the greatest Kaiju ever.
She was never killed or even slowef down her movie when she went to get her offspring.
She was every bit as invincible as Godzilla in repelling weapons.
Without even knowing who Gorgo is - I want to see him in a movie
Her
"Her"; Gorgo himself is just an infant, and he's kidnapped by greedy humans. His mother does the city wrecking. Her name is unofficially "Ogra"
Gorgo is super underrated. Can y’all cover the Rhedosaurus from the aforementioned Beast from 20,000 Fathoms?
Hopefully they can.
I hope so; it’s one of my all time favorites. Also THEM!!!
I would like to see Gorgo and olgra in the Monsterverse.
ah yes, my favorite giant monster, olgra
There was a recent Monarch legacy of monsters trailer that hints at gorgo with some ancient art and other mythological drawing
Gorgo needs a spot in the Monsterverse.
Gorgo was clearly done with a lot of care. Great miniatures and design. Great to see it featured.
Gorgo is a good movie for its time, I really like the way the Gorgo figure looks!
Gorgo was made as an apology to director Eugene Lourie’s daughter. When the film that Lourie directed, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms premiered and gained critical acclaim, Lourie’s daughter was upset with her father having the Redosaurus die in the end. Lourie promised her that he will make another film where the monster lives. Gorgo was originally supposed to be released in the late 50’s , but because of some legal issues regarding the King Brothers, Gorgo was released in 1961.
Eugene Lourie saw Godzilla and thought that Godzilla looked and moved stiff. That was one criticism that he had about Godzilla. There was a joint production with a Japanese film company to make a giant monster movie but it didn’t work out.
If you look at the making of Gorgo in the DVD/ Blu-Ray Special Editions, you can even see the costume and other parts of the production. Even a little bit of trivia involving a James Bond film.
When I was little, I remember watching Gorgo more times than I watched Godzilla, King Of The Monsters(with Raymond Burr). I had mistaken Gorgo for Godzilla because I had no idea what Godzilla looked like at the time. But Gorgo has a special place in my heart because Gorgo and his mother survived a world that they could not coexist with.
The musical score by Angelo Lavagnino is the most iconic score for a monster movie, equal to Akira Ifukube’s Gojira/ Godzilla score.
The most interesting scene is the field reporter giving the audience an account of Gorgo’s mother’s rampage through London.
Field Reporter-“We prayed for a miracle.Maybe our prayers have been answered. A great city, overwhelmed, exhausted, lies helpless under the immeasurable power and ferocity of this towering apparition from before the dawn of history. Yet, as though disdaining the pygmies under her feet, she turns back!Turns with her young, leaving the prostrate city, leaving the haunts of man, and leaving man himself to ponder the proud boast he alone is lord of all creation.”
Very underrated Kaiju! To bad more wasn’t made. Excellent film! Great models too!
I agree that Gorgo is horrendously underrated. I've always liked this giant monster movie.
I always liked the film Gorgo. I believe it was the first parent/child focused kaiju film. The fleeing-mob scenes were especially well done. Godzilla would wipe the floor of both mom and child Gorgo though, they're "just" dinosaurs without additional funky weaponry. Eugene Lourie also directed a third kaiju film "The Giant Behemoth," which despite being on a low budget had decent stop-motion animation and a touch more grue than most similar films.
To me, it felt more like a potential Doctor Who serial. Something linked to the Silurians/Sea Devils.
Lourie also did not want any confrontations with the military as he thought their big guns could kill anything. But the studio pushed the military involvement onto him.
Honestly, I feel Gorgo (and by extension his mother Orga) are pretty underrated. It's clear that they're pretty durable, shrugging off military weaponry much like the original godzilla did. So if we scaled Gorgo in a similar manner to Legendary, I'd say durability wise they'd probably be on par. Plus, if we're considering the comics... both Gorgo and Orga were said to be so durable, they could shrug off atomic bombs, and alien-based weapons capable of destroying planets. Regardless, I wish there was more material involving Gorgo and Orga.
his mothers name is Ogra with all due respect.
@@jeffsharp9416 Yeah, not sure why... but every time I typed her name is, some sort of auto-correct turned it to Ogra into Orga. I had to go through and see what was causing it. I think I got it now though. I swear I get plagued with some sort of auto-correct bullshit program. Sorry about that.
I really would like to see a video on the Gappas from "Gappa The Triphibian Monster" I really like the kaijus of the movie and I think they could give some kaiju a run for their money
I've definitely heard and seen the movie Gorgo, I love it. It is an underrated giant monster movie and I love Gorgo's design.
The Gorgo/Ogra kaiju could theoretically be a cousin species of Titanus Gojira, trading projectile abilities for immense resilience to harm & an unrelenting drive to resolve whatever caused a transgression to it.
Despite this; as long as nobody causes it harm or harassment, it could be rather temperamental.
I have have heard that theory before as well and would be a great tie in. Especially considering Gigan’s design. I really enjoyed the Gorgo movie as well.
Eeyup.
Thank you!!! I've always loved Gorgo and it's sadly amazing how few folks know of him, or his mighty mom!!!
As an O'Donovan, I loved that it's an Irish kaiju making a mess out of London. LOL>
I love the movie Gorgo. Saw it for the first time some 30 years ago. It's actually a pretty good movie, especially for a kaiju flick.
Also, Gorgo was named for the Gorgon, even says so in the movie.
Gorgo itself was named after Gorgosaurus, but in the film itself it’s named after Gorgon because they originally gave it the ability to turn people into stone if they looked into its red eyes, though they got rid of that during production.
- Alastair
I loved Gorgo as a kid. I remember stumbling upon it on tv, not long after i was obsessed with Godzilla. Great movie.
Remember this film , always thought it was underrated. Which makes it a hidden diamond
Ogra was the mother; Gorgo was the son. It's also interesting that the Gappa storyline took inspiration from Gorgo.
No Gorgo is the parent. Ogra is the kid
@@Godzilla-tu2cd Gorgo is not the mother. Alistar also mentions in the video that Gorgo is the child
I thought the director of gappa stated that he never saw gorgo in a interveiw
The overall story and theme of Gappa mirrors too closely to Gorgo's to be a coincidence. Only difference is that Gappa included a male parent and that the Gappas are triphibbian kaijus
@@MahKe03 ok thanks 👍🏿
Man, I need to see this film I've only seen snippets and it looks awesome. And of course I've preordered this Gorgo/Ogra figure from Titanic Crestions so looking forward to that.
Gorgo a very interesting creature I would like to see more of it.
I'm a huge Godzilla fan and I love Gorgo and Augra as well. I own the blu ray of Gorgo . Thanks so much for the link of the figure too, I went right to the site and pre-ordered! Glad Gorgo is getting much needed recognition.
Gorgo : IM GONNA BUST YOU UP G MAN! AND IMMA WEAR YOUR SPINES
Godzilla : that was weird *atomic breath*
Nice Puss n' Boots refference
So the monster I grew up loving besides Godzilla & Gammera, wasnt actually Gorgo, but Gorgo's Mom? . . . Huh - go figure? Reckon when Titanic Creations is gonna start work on a new Minilla figure? lol
It is a shame because it is very good movie!! Love see a remake of this monster! I think it would fit in the MV very nicely
Hey, Alastair, love the content that you and Jacob normally put when it comes to Godzilla. I really love the Godzilla vs the War of the Worlds Martians you did a couple of years back. Unfortunately, I do need to criticize you on one small thing: the Le Fantasque. She wasn't a battleship; she was a destroyer. Her size and other features don't put her anywhere near the characteristics of a battleship. So, in hindsight, she was the fastest destroyer of World War 2. But fun fact, the fastest class of battleship ever built is in fact the Iowa-class of the US Navy. Capable of flank speeds of 33 knots, with USS New Jersey (BB-62) holding the record of 35 plus knots during her shakedown runs before deploying to Vietnam in the late 60's.
Got a lot of Love for Gorgo. Loved the movie and watched it a ton growing. Really awesome to see we are getting something new toy wise! Would love to see Gorgo in the Monster Universe!
Gorgo was the first monster film I saw as a kid in the 80s. I'd love to see him wading down The Thames in a Monsterverse film.
Gorog is such an underrated Kaiju. If this monster had the chance to star in more movies it could have become something similar to either Godzilla or Gamera.
Great film, I saw it when it opened in 1961 (yes I'm ancient). Lots of action and the effects are very good for the time. Here's a thought, since neither child nor mother died in the original, it's screaming out for some kind of sequel, perhaps with the child, now an adult, with some Godzilla-like abilities derived from al these years of living in a ocean polluted with nuclear waste. That would naturally lead to a G vs. G plot. Also, last I checked, Gorgo was free to watch on RUclips.
We got an old school Kaiju fan here! Must have been great to see in the cinema, what kinds of crowds did it being?
- Alastair
@@DangerVille Back in those days neighborhood theaters had Saturday afternoon matinees geared toward kids and young people. The theater was usually full and I remember for this film some were standing in the rear.
Would have loved to have been there!
No way!!! You're legendary dude! 61? Jeez!
@@DangerVille The theaters were full with kids. BTW, another film from the same year that deserves more attention in one called "Dinosaurus." If focuses on a T-Rex and Brontosaurus brought out of suspended animation by a bold of lightning. For the day the effects are good.
Two things I want to know: One what would Godzilla be like fighting the northern gods and the Egyptian gods?
Two Will you ever talk about the one weapon that destroyed The original Godzilla long ago, the oxygen destroyer created by a scientist and turn the oxygen destroyer, destroy Gamera and Kong as well?
Just get back from school i see some new Godzilla video so excited 🙏❤❤❤
Mothra: “hey! What are you doing to this city?!”
Ogra: (in a stereotypical Irish accent) “they touched meh focking babeh!”
Mothra: “makes sense, carry on.”
I didn’t know Gorgo’s existence until I watch a episode of mystery science theater 3000. The episode was Gorgo. And I love both gorgos roar.
It looks worthy to be put into the Monsterverse.. I can definitely see this Gorgo fighting off against King Ceasar or Megalon perhaps even Kong as well. That be awesome to see.
Exploring other giant monsters? Well since Legendary has now set up shop at Sony/Columbia, no doubt that they will attempt to redo some of Ray Harryhausen's features (just like Legendary redid "Clash of the Titans" for WB). So how about exploring some of Ray's larger creatures such as the giant octopus in "It Came from Beneath the Sea" or Talos from "Jason and the Argonauts".
I think the Gorgo movie also represents the fact that mankind tends to take things simply for profit or amusement.
Thank you for this one. I remember watching this with my parents when I was younger, but totally forgot about it.
A video about a British-made IRISH kaiju a day before saint Patrick’s day? Nice.
Imagine how big gorgos father was. I think gorgo and the rhedosaurus be a good fit in the monsterverse
I think Gorgo had already lost that battle. Have you seen anymore Gorgo movies? I rest my point.
I want gorgo and other underrated monsters in the monsterverse (don't care if people hate me for saying this)
Gorgo was not named after the Gorgosaurus and has nothing to do with that dinosaur. The movie has an entire scene where the circus manager decides on how to promote the beast and he states that he is calling it Gorgo after the gorgons of Greek mythology because he thinks the animal is ugly.
This video has lots o' errors
Well since you've brought up Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, why not do a profile on the Rhedosaurus?
One of my Top Ten Favorite Creature-Features! And the action-figure looks awesome!!! Can't wait to see an action-figure replica of THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS next!
Gorgo's symbolism has solidified him as being my favourite Kaiju, I grew up around Kaijus and never heard of this one until now but after looking at what he symbolises, what a chad.
I love kaijus movies produced internationally apart from Japan and the US, such as Reptilicus, the canceled Gogola, Pulgasari, Troll, among others. It gives it greater diversity, notion and folkloric enrichment, I wonder if this topic will be explored in greater depth in the new Apple TV series...
Finally Gorgo is getting some attention on the internet. Took long enough!
6:14 -- London Calling -- So sorry, I couldn't resist! Thanks, Alastair, for this review and "just suppose!"
I remember watching Gorgo when I was 7 and loving it since little me was crazy over giant monsters. It would be interesting if Gorgo and his mother were in the Monsterverse and I always wonder what if Godzilla was around to help Ogra get her son back.
I would have never known about this I need to watch this at some point in my life
Mooom I want Godzilla.
'We have Godzilla at home.'
Godzilla at home:
I loved all the old kaiju movies as a kid, there was something kinda magical about them. Like a bigger cooler reconfigured dinosaur, set it in more modern type landscape, crunching bldgs, picks up a train & he throws it back down & pulls the high tension wires down. And as far as the king,well...long live the King(of the monsters that is),I've been watching Gman movies for over 50yrs,& couldn't have been happier when they brought out the current reboot of the character in 2014. I thought they did him justice. Could they have done more?...maybe yes, maybe no,you can't please everyone. The important thing is the Gman is back & hopefully will be for at least a while!!!
Love your work guys ❤❤❤
Gorgo and his mom are just really cool Kaiju. That figure looks amazing too, ima keep my eyes on it.
Orga: "Been looking for your ass for 46 minutes tf you doing"
Gorgo: "I wanted to play with the people"
Orga: "gottcho ass kidnapped had to break shit to find you" "we're going home"
Is the thumbnail an artwork of Godzilla? It looks really cool
Gorgo's Mother meeting Godzilla.
GM: Oh hey Godzilla.... Its been what, 10 years?
Godzilla: Oh hey yeah I remember you! I still remember "That night" we had, you were wild back then.
GM: Well "That Night" was something because well
*She shows Gorgo to Godzilla*
Gorgo: Daddy?
Godzilla: ah shit....
Mothra: GOJI, WHAT THE F###.
Good video. I just received the Titanic Creations Gorgo figure, it’s great.
I wanna see Gorgo and the Rhedosaurus fight/team up, they seem like a good fit for each other
Like Godzilla and Anguirus
Thanks for doing a video about Gorgo and her baby!
It's really cool that Gorgo's and Ogra's roars sound like emergency sirens, just fits the hopeless vibes the film gives visually through it's cinematography.
I love Gorgo! Great story and ferocious monster!
What's a kaiju's favourite cheese?
GORGOnzola.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
I once watched this movie on television a long time ago. I really liked it.
Hoping that Legendary Pictures include Gorgo in the "Monsterverse". 💯 Truly an underrated Kaiju.
Im a gorgo fan my grand-grand father told me about it and untill now i still make monsterverse gorgo designs with other people
These elephant sounds are hilarious! 🐘🤣
Damn, Gorgo! Lol haven't heard that name since I was a kid, we had it on VHS. XD
Gorgo. One of the few giant monster movies where the titular monster doesn't die at the end.
I loved Gorgo from the first time I saw it. I would kill to see an updated version of Gorgo in a new film. Hell, I'd love a series of Gorgo films!
I think gorgo is a great film, in many aspects.
Also you should talk about the godzilla monster of monsters creepypasta, it’s pretty amazing.
I’m glad this monster films is getting some love now.
Had gorgo on vcr as a kid. Absolutely loved it. I'm assuming I still have it hidden away somewhere
I just watched Gorgo again 2 days ago.
I like that movie.
Monster from a prehistoric planet was real good also.
They were big, had wings and breathed fire.
Both of those movies had Mom coming to get her kidnapped babies.
Always saw Gorgo and Godzilla as probably teaming up instead of fighting each other
Gorgo appeared on an episode of The Tiwsted Tales of Felix the Cat entitled Felix in Nightdrop Land. That's actually how I came into contact with Gorgo for the very first time in my life. Naturally it wasn't on any of my local VHS rental stores so I waited years so that I could get the DVD on the web.
Gorgo is definitely a great monster and I think it could really work out for a crossover
After all we have stuff like titanosaurus and gorosaurus you could have an entire Godzilla family tree that could include for go if they ever get the rights to him
And then Godzilla would finally have a bunch of cousins species that aren't technically Godzilla or at the very least related each sharing just a couple of genetic traits but having enough differences to still be individual
Though since gorgo could be easily hurt or deterred by fire and pretty sure that Godzilla wins this battle
However they could try to do something interesting to give it an extra advantage like perhaps there are two of them instead of just one or maybe gorgo is a different gender of the titanosaurus species so you've got the shorter at smarter gorgo who'd be the same size as Godzilla then you have the big angry girlfriend titanosaurus who'd be nearly two or three times the sides of both of them I'm really leaning into the name titanosaurus
I was 9 years old when Gorgo was released, and I loved it. I still do. Although I loved Godzilla and had seen it on TV several times, Gorgo was the first monster flick I was able to see on the big screen.
"Nothing to be done."
"I'm beginning to come around to that opinion."
"Let's go."
"We can't."
"Why not?"
"Because we're waiting for Gorgo."
"Ah, yes."
"Oh no! Here he is!"
(ROAR!)
Gorgo looks like what would happen if Godzilla did the Monster Mash with Titanosaurus.
Gorgo is an underrated Kaiju. But understandable why this kaiju and movie is mostly ignored because it's pretty much a knockoff on Godzilla. But there is enough in Gorgo that has an identity of its own and you mentioned it, the Gorgo comics. Which could make for a pretty cool movie or show adaptation if done right.
If they ever decided to make a movie where Godzilla and Gorgo/ Ogra duke it out, I wouldn't be surprised if either Gorgo or Ogra are immune to Godzilla's atomic breath.
Gorgo just doesn't roll off the tongue like Godzilla.
“This SAVAGE Monster Could Kill Godzilla!”
Destoroyah, Ghidorah, and MechaGodzilla: Am I a joke to you?
Both this onster and Godzilla would make a great double team up movie.
So cool.
Can you do a video on The Giant Claw monster, movie of 1957 ugly monster but I’ve never heard anyone mention him/her... love all your videos Danger Ville 😎🦖
We need a Gorgo sequel to follow the original with Gorgo now fully grown with modern-day special effects I would go see it!
i Love Gorgo. i Love the Movie, and The Monsters, Gorgo and Ogra, are So Cute! i Watched it for the 15th Time This Morning.
The 1998 American Godzilla felt more like a remake of gorgo
Gorgo doesn’t get any love; it needs more. I’ve got a few ideas for who we can try. The T-Rex from the last Dinosaur, Gappa from Monster from a prehistoric planet, and Youngary. Just a few obscure names. Maybe some of the Ray Harryhausen monsters?
"Godzilla has remained the king of the monsters" Gidorah💀
I would love to see a sequel to Gorgo!
Never seen it, but it sounds great!
