This is a re-upload of the LIVE repair I did on Friday night. I successfully repaired an MKII PCB that has a bas CMOS ram chip. Replacement chip: Sharp LH5268A-10LL
Symptoms: U49 error on boot (all eproms test good and green). Erratic behavior. 1 credit = 25,000 or more credits, etc. Secret characters appear on first FIGHT. Controls don’t work properly for both players. Attract mode looks normal though.
Solution: Replace CMOS ram chip (unsocketed) at UJ11.
Shout out to Mike who helped me in 2022 with the solution. He posted his video first and beat me to it! Ha ha! Check out his version of the same issue here: • Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade...

I now own the "possessed" board you speak of at the 13 minute mark of the video. I exorcized the demon. The demon was a screw connecting the rom board and main board. It was creating a grounding issue that caused all the weird problems.

The simple things always cause the worst issues! Glad you got it sorted!

Our Mortal Kombat II PCB once exhibited the following issue: Instead of punching sounds, it emitted the baby cry from "Babaility" Talk about a crazy gremlin. Still don't know how or why that happened. @@delsarcade

@@retrobotics I've had that happen on my Smash TV game too where it was playing the wrong sounds all of a sudden. Midway sound boards commonly have that issue.
But there is an easy fix! Unplug and reseat the audio connector cables that go from the sound board to the main board. Fixed!

I think the guy you were thinking of for the flux is Alex from northridge fix.

A lot of guys complain their Hako plugs up all the time and I have yet to have mine plug up been using it regularly for 3 years or so. It’s easy to forget to clean it out but when I do I drop the chunk of solder on the floor too lol.

Yeah, I learned early that it's super important to clean it out after EVERY use. Keeps it healthy for years to come.

Another issue is people don't change their tip often enough. They grab a random, usually the default, nozzle and use it for every job. Haako sells a quick change stand that is hands free and will allow you to change even a hot nozzle if you wound up with the wrong size on. Obviously that is super useful cold too. I'm at point though where I can use a solder sucker almost as fast and the haako maintenance is still annoying as heck. Not sure I'd have a haako if I started at this level with suckers and braid.

Hi there, great content thanks for the upload. Exact issue with mine. Does the replacement cmos chip need to have any code written on it? Or can I just order that chip from ebay and swap them out? Cheers from New Zealand.

No code or flashing needed. Just swap the chip and you're golden! It's a pretty common issue. Just make sure you socket it in case it happens again.

Do you happen to do repairs on MK2 boards? I have one with no power I check the PSU and I have power at the JAMMA harness but none at the board. No LEDs light up. I would appreciate any help thank you.

Personally, I don't. However, Mike Jenson from Mike's Amateur Arcade Repairs channel and/or @YourMKarcadeSource channel, knows those boards pretty well. Perhaps you can ask him for some advice. He's also on FB.
