You are a genius and this is exactly what I needed to see. Thanks for the great video. If I didn't live 1000 miles away, I would have you do mine. Based on your craftsmanship, I would recommend anyone in your local area to use your services.
Hey QuickFix - I'm getting a 2003 Impala 3.4L ready to bring up to my son in Philly. He's a violinist/composer and I'm afraid he'll have to take it to a mechanic to change the wipers! Anyway, I'll give him your name; somehow I trust you! By the way, I just removed a balancer that was a little wobbly but, once removed I saw no damage at all but changed it anyway cause it's got 298K on it. I used 2" bolts on the puller so didn't have to drop the subframe at all. Good luck with your business.
@@geecrawdad ty man im kinda having the same problem, did you have to change just the balancer or the whole crankshaft pulley? Idk if thats the same thing or not lol, im new to this mechanic stuff
Replaced mine 10 years ago, then this past winter when making a turn I suddenly lost power steering, and the voltage dropped like a mofo on my car. Has gotten progressively worse so I figured the crappy belt had started to stretch... Nope, new belt in hand was a hair longer, and then I noticed when I went to slip the new one on, the outer ring of my balancer just moved around like a normal pulley! The joys of rubber shrinkage! I can't believe the outer ring hasn't shot off in the last 6 months! Also, for me, the bolt on the crank was a 15mm, not 18mm, and 1000% air-gun makes life sooo much easier. First time took two hours with hand-tools. Back to the garage I go!
Have you had any issues with tachometer twitch after replacing a harmonic balancer on one of these? I feel like it may be my crankshaft position sensor has gone bad. But it didn't start until after I had replaced the harmonic balancer. There's no change to the way the vehicle drives, but the tachometer twitches aggressively at idle and wont show any RPM pass 3500 RPM even though the engine continues to accelerate
@@brandonlittle1208 from what I gathered there are two different sensors that monitor the crankshaft, there's one right behind the harmonic balancer and then there's another one on a different spot of the engine, the one behind the harmonic balancer is what gives you your tachometer reading and it may be going bad.
The instructions that came with my replacement balancer say that I need to do the relearn procedure. I assume that it doesn’t have to be done since you make no mention of it, but I just wanted to be sure since I have never done this before.
you put three bolts in to pull the pulley, but you know behind one the the bolts you were driving in, was the crank sensor, I'm not sure you damaged it or not, but you drove that bolt in with a impact. I'm going to say damage. just saying
I hope you did an oil change afterwards 🤣 all that brake clean you sprayed in there and never use the factory bolt to press new balancer in place there is 2 parts to a puller set 😉
Great advice. I'm having a tough time putting my pulley back... I checked that the key was fully seated, but the pulley gets tough to push after 1/8". Used a hammer to give light blows to each side. The pulley was also very tough to remove, I used an impact gun to drive puller and it was a fight to the end. I probably should have used some emery cloth to take off a few microns. I was tempted to use heat... but not with the seal so close.

Liked & shared . Nice one .
God bless you for this I just found out that it was breaking the serpentine belt and I needed to replace both as well as the motor mount. Thank you

After you changed the balancer did it fix the wobbly problem?
@@madmanmorty8709 Yes, the balancer was beginning to separate.

Good video, exactly what i needed to see. Now its my turn.

Thank you, the video was very helpful.

Great video. I hope you changed the oil also from all the brake parts cleaner that was sprayed in the engine when the pulley was off.
Great job
To loosen it, I have to go counter-clockwise correct for Harmonic Balancer?
Awesome Video!!!
Where can i buy a replacement bolt from.
Good one

Any breaks through on the impala. Having a similar issue on a 04

How much does a car shop charge to get those fixed
Does replacing the Harmonic Balancer require a CKP Relearn Procedure?

Didn't have to drop sub frame, remove any tires, or use a impact.
You didn't ??? I have a grand am and in order to replace belt I have to drop engine. So stupid !
@@fuckyou96 I've never heard of that one. I've had a 98 malibu and a 01 grand am, but haven't ran into that problem.

You still fix cars?
