- Welcome, posted is a full video of a differential replacement repair on a semi truck in Texas. This differential was replaced mostly by myself at a truck stop that I lived at for a few days. This is the first time I've ever done such a large repair. I was stranded and stuck in a lot in the dusty windy Lubbuck Texas at the time. Luckily the nights weren't too cold and I did have doubts occasionally, but I pushed through it all to fix this rig so I could keep on Trucking!

Tackling a pretty big job in not so ideal conditions.....your drive and determination is inspiring! You probably saved yourself $3K..good on you!
The bolts that you were hand wrenching , use a double box end wrench and pull with a fifth wheel release pull handle .
Plastic bed liners are often thrown away , grab one and cut the floor out of it . Makes a nice 4’ X 8’ sheet to lay on .

ok, i got the same rear end. My tail shaft bearings just went out. Makes the truck wobble like u got a bad u joint. The tail shaft moves 1 inch around, Its a 350.00 kit, you get the shaft,bearings-races,seal and a nut! If you have to do it down the road you should be able to do it from the outside of the rear end. You dont have to remove the differental
I got a good deal, well worth it. The thing was chewing up metal bad for a year

I’m having same issue on 2015 Cascadia but my power divider front differential got a hole on it ☹️ I can’t just take off axles and go home cuz the whole on the housing ….
I just changed mine and I only see a fill plug on the back of the housing. I don’t see any other plugs for the power divider. Is this the only place to fill with oil? I don’t want to burn up a new power divider
What did you use for the seal?
The thought of this occurring and no one recording is depressing.
If you have a seal leak, will it be replaced the same way?

I got underneath today and think my gasket is no good since I see the differential is leaking. Going to have to put some silicone on there.

I've heard Freightliner dealerships have charged $8000 before

what broke that caused you to pull the axles ? Did the power divider blow?? Was it the ring gear bearings? What was causeing the vibration in the front axle? How many miles did it have on it?
It was vibrating bad at 65mph. The magnetic drain plug was covered in metal shavings every time checked through the week. The power front side was replaced when I bought the rig a year ago. It went bad. I'm starting to think one of the axle tubes could be have a very slight bend to it. Replacement diff keeps clean on the drain plug so far. I believe there is not enough weight on 1 wheel, it burns out in the rain empty, same wheel. If you jack a wheel and put it in gear they will vibrate. I believe not enough weight on 1 wheel can do the same and stress the diff with the vibrations that I barley feel, but the diff feels more of.
What about the other diff? Spins easy? If it the rear rear got taller size airbags( the power could be going to the easy spin wheel at front ( once it looses traction it will spin the fastest it can ) .
leveling valve/s ? oh and vibration starts with not paralell pinions on both end of drivrshaft or short shart. they wobbling if not paralel. Many times due to mot proper adjustment of leveling valve. tremec App.
How was the temperature running when you first installed the differential?
Pretty hot half filled with thick Lucas oil till I got the right oil in it
Wow where did you get the axle caps? I need to do the samething, how fast could you drive with the axles removed? Also did you lock the differential in order to drive that 1000 miles?

Mine hold about 11 quarts
