They rarely played it live (I previously only had one horrible quality bootleg MP3 of one of the performances), but they played it that night because a band they respected was finishing their time on the tour that night. I leaned over to tell the dudes I was with how lucky we were and they didn't even understand what I was talking about.
A lot of Led Zeppelin fans don't like this version but I think it's really important to remember the best covers are often a reimagining of a song and not a note for note copy. No one can copy Led Zeppelin and no one can copy Tool. That's why you get two great versions of 1 great song.

I have two requests. 1) Wings for Marie (10,000 days) Part 1 and 2 (two separate tracks back to back but meant to be listened to as one) 2) Do some research on Wings for Marie first to really feel the emotion. It's an amazing memorium that Maynard created for his mother Judith Marie who died after suffering 10,000 days in a wheelchair as a very sick lady. Her faith in an afterlife and her grace were way beyond anyone who was suffering or not. It's amazing! Love you guys...peace!
The term "no quarter" means that all prisoners of war are shown no mercy. That's exactly like playing a Tool song and really listening to it. You become a prisoner, and shown no mercy until the end

This is my second time hearing this track. So haunting. I loved her reaction, she really felt it and went on the journey. I took it with her, just smiling and taking it in.
