Man, I really love Zeppelin and Tool, but those Zep and Tool fanboys are just annoying. I like this version, but the original is just better in my opinion. Robert's vocals are just better and more mysterious than Maynard's, John's drumming is more groovy and not to mention the guitar, keyboard and piano solos. Also, the original was recorded around 1971, and that's just impressive. If someone likes Tool's version more, that's fine, we all have our opinion and Tool is awesome too; but there are people arguing that the original is no match for this one or the other way around, just because it's their favorite band. Oh, stop crying. I agree that he shouldn't have compared two very different versions of the same song but it's his opinion. If you're going to dislike and start hating on him for expressing an opinion you completely miss the point of an unbiased reaction channel. You wanted to hear something along the lines of "it's good but the original is better" but he conveyed what he felt. If he and other content creators started catering and became afraid of expressing their own thoughts/feelings then this platform would be a very bland place (and believe me that already happens enough as it is).

I have great love for both bands, and both versions of the song, they are both top shelf tracks for either band, I can't call it either way, just 'whatever version I'm listening to right now'. Tool is the one band I listen to by far the most these day, but I didn't get into them till the early 2000s, but I have been listening to Led Zeppelin since before I was born..
I agree with many of the comparisons, regarding composition, between Tool and Pink Floyd (the other band that gets any major playtime), but I feel that Tool are the 'spiritual successor' to Zepp in that they are both fairly overt with references to Thelemic occultism and mind-expansion, and if I'm not mistaken, Danny and Page are friends.
Of course this cover blatantly removes any doubt that Tool are influenced by Zeppelin, but a better example of the philosophical connection is 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Laturalus'; both are about the duality of human existence and the journey to a higher state of being ('two paths you can go by', 'divinity and still be a human').
Gold, in the context of 'Stairway', is a reference to alchemy, ie: as a 'noble' metal, gold symbolises perfection and the highest state of existence. Related to alchemy, we have freemasonry, in which chemical symbolism is replaced with engineering and maths. In freemasonry, perfection is symbolised by the 'Golden mean' (sometimes referred to as the 'God ratio'), and this is where it gets interesting; the Golden mean is the floating point (decimal or fractional number) correspondent to the integer (whole number) based Fibonacci sequence! Ironically, the Fibonacci progresses in steps, like a stairway, while the Golden ratio traces a smooth, upward and outward spiral. . .. … …..
My other point of interest is 'Stairway' again, and '46&2'; the lines 'and as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls' with 'See my shadow changing,
stretching up and over me', 'shadow' referencing Jung's principals on the hidden psyche, both lines are positioned at the climax of the song, both lines describe the climax of the journey with the same symbolism of the hitherto unseen self expanding in a transformative capacity into something greater than the previous self..
