    Delhi and especially Agra are the worst for scams like you ran into. The rest of India it is far less frequent in my experience over a year spent all over the country. Just have to try to stay positive. Honestly they can see you are new to the country just by the way you are dressed and assume you are an easier target. I really hope you enjoy India It's my favourite country to travel because it is so intense! Happy Travels

      Fortunately we only ran into scams in Agra! We did have a good time (though admittedly we had our frustrated moments lol) and we definitely want to again to see more regions.

      Hey don't be sorry! We get that a lot of people doing this are in situations we'll never understand as tourists.
      We also experienced some of the most amazing people and places in India. I would be willing to bet many of the scammers are even good people deep down. We just hope that someone steps in to teach these people how to run their businesses without deceptive tactics... I guarantee they would get a LOT more tourism and make WAY more money than doing it the current way.

    Northern big touristy cities like Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Rishikesh, Kolkata are notorious for tourist scams like this unfortunately. Sad to see so many new travelers feeling frustrasted because of these touts/scammers.
    I recommend other laidback destinations for a more memorable experience of India:
    Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Kochi, Pondicherry, Hampi, Goa, Amritsar, but for summers I recommend mountaintowns like Leh, Manali, Shillong, Darjeeling.

    The best part of the video was when the auto driver wanted to take you guys to some shop for commissions and all of you said no in unison. Just loved that 🤣. Next great thing you guys did was to firmly tell the driver to stop the auto when he tried to take a longer route. I always scream in my head when foreign tourists are too polite to these guys who are trying to pull a fast one in the first place. So proud of you guys! Also know that the police has a zero tolerance towards harassment of foreign tourists. Just tell the guy we are recording you and we will share it on social media and then call the police. That should sort 90% of all scammers! When in India always be 'bindaas' (look up the word), never be a chicken!

      It is just shortsightedness, they feel they can get a quick buck, but in the long run it will decrease India' reputation, reduce the amount of tourists and hence reduce the revenue generated. Wish such scammers were put behind bars with immediate effect but the govt. officials in this country are lazy and dont want to do their job.

    One advice for all foreign tourists to avoid scams is to book with a private travel agency even if it is expensive & no matter how the local chaotic experience looks tempting to you... always book hotels & internal transit bookings (air, railway) well in advance & cabs 1-2 days advance through authentic portals. It would be much safer that way, dealing with such scammers are even the huge task for local/native Indian travellers... Hopefully the situation gets better soon. ❤️

      Yeah we definitely understand that a lot of people do run these petty scams because... they don't really see any other way. I know a lot of people are in situations we'll never understand as tourists.
      We hope it does stop though. It doesn't feel good as a visitor.. even if it's something so small because it is deceptive in nature. I hope authorities/government instead of punishing these people can help teach them how to run their businesses and treat tourists better, so that they can have a better life too. India is SO amazing and has SO much going for it, and I am positive tourists would rather pay more and not deal with scams. They would probably get WAY more tourism in these areas too!

We were trying to get to a dock, where we had already booked tickets for a boat ride to our accommodation. We were watching the GPS, and the driver was trying to take us somewhere totally different. We confirmed the proper address multiple times, and he acted like he was taking us where we wanted.
    He took us to a totally different area, where HE owned a boat, and tried to get us to go with his company. Anja flipped, and he then drove us the additional 15 minutes back to where he was supposed to. 😂

    Fact check: all the historical sites charge extra for cameras & mobiles if shooting is allowed, different counter than tickets may be.
    Also at the ticket counter, it would have been genuine mistake by the staff for the currency because they can't scam as they are under surveillance.
    Being an Indian, i apologize to you guys for few scam experience by my fellow indian people, i wish people will learn behaving with our guests...

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  Год назад +1

      In our experience this isn’t true. Many places allowed it with no extra fee, and the ones that required fees had it posted if an extra fee was required. We had checked the front desk… no fee at Akbar’s tomb was to be seen. Some if we asked only required fees for professional equipment, like actual cameras you would use for movies or something.
      Ticket counter I’m not totally convinced of it being a mistake. We handed him 1500 for tickets that cost 1300. He argued with about the change for a while. There is a slight chance, but we had been shortchanged almost everywhere we went in Agra. It hardly felt like an accident and we ultimately decided to include it so people knew to look out for it.
      That said, we still had a good time and you don’t need to apologize for them! We can empathize with why it happens, but I wish for India’s tourism that it does stop!

    There are various App based services in India for Hotels ,Cabs ,buses, Trains food,Sim Cards etc which give good quality services at fair price .......India needs to put information about this services on tourism website for education of tourists

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  Год назад

      We had decided to do a tuktuk for fun this time, but Uber and Ola generally worked for us in the big cities.
      However in Jaipur and Jodhpur they weren’t working. I guess they don’t pay drivers enough, so drivers will accept a ride, but then never come. So they force you to cancel and collect a cancellation fee from your card that gets charged for canceling. Uber and Ola have no timeout function for drivers that do this. When we called Ola even they refused to believe or help us, which makes me think these apps take a cut of the cancellation fee.
      It’s a real shame.

    • @KirpalSingh65699
      @KirpalSingh65699 Год назад

      @IfWeGoTo HI there, it's because Cab drivers have to pay and percentage of Total earnings to that companies for using their app for finding customers.......In small cities drivers want to use app for finding customers but Don't want to pay the fees to the company that's why drivers force customers for canceling because they Don't want to show to the company that they cancel the ride ......In reality customers don't have to cancel ride because it's driver denial to serve the customers

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  Год назад

      I understand, but I don’t understand why they agree to a ride they won’t take. We’ve read that they get a cancellation fee. Even when we offer cash payment they don’t come.
      Riders are forced to cancel and charged a fee for canceling. The drivers after accepting rides simply don’t move… and like we said the app doesn’t time out. So you either have to wait until the driver cancels (which can be a VERY long time) or cancel to get a new ride and get charged a fee. And the process starts over again.

      We fortunately didn't get scammed anywhere but Agra (other than a few Ola/Uber fails lol), but have heard that they are more common in more touristic areas near the golden triangle. Either way, we definitely hope to see more of India.
      Hopefully the scamming dies down soon, India would make a lot more money from tourism if it changed!!

    I feel so sad about you guys because you guys seemed so genuinely happy to be travelling like localites before getting scammed . Like i am from india but at a different state and the way i get treated and given the same or similar scams like today inself i told a driver very clearly i want to be dropped off here and he agreed and when time came he tried to make a turn to keep me further away and when i called him out he started trying to scam me like you all too. he tried telling to get down and no payment required but since i was late i offered to pay more instead which is totally wrong. They really try to steal and harass just ANYONE who's not a local be it even people from states of the same country they dont care at all. They are very classless. I hope u read this and feel heard. This is their character dont take it personally. Well dealt with guys. and i suggest not paying at all if it happens again. Id surely do the same. Losers really.

      Aww thank you for reaching out. We had a great time in India, regardless of the scams. Unfortunately there are some people all over the world who do things like this. Do not worry, we do not take these things personally, nor as a reflection of the people or country. We met so many WONDERFUL characters in India and they far outshine the petty scammers. That, and petty scams just are not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

They really made you feel fool and angry.
