Delhi and especially Agra are the worst for scams like you ran into. The rest of India it is far less frequent in my experience over a year spent all over the country. Just have to try to stay positive. Honestly they can see you are new to the country just by the way you are dressed and assume you are an easier target. I really hope you enjoy India It's my favourite country to travel because it is so intense! Happy Travels
Fortunately we only ran into scams in Agra! We did have a good time (though admittedly we had our frustrated moments lol) and we definitely want to again to see more regions. What part of the country do you recommend visiting?
Literally such a pleasure to have had the opportunity to travel India with you two. Watching this video makes us so nostalgic already, but not for the scams… lol. Hopefully this video can make more tourists able to safely travel the beautiful country of India!! Cheers to the next adventure somewhere new sooner rather than later 🎉❤🇮🇳
Hey don't be sorry! We get that a lot of people doing this are in situations we'll never understand as tourists. We also experienced some of the most amazing people and places in India. I would be willing to bet many of the scammers are even good people deep down. We just hope that someone steps in to teach these people how to run their businesses without deceptive tactics... I guarantee they would get a LOT more tourism and make WAY more money than doing it the current way.

We are so sorry for a very chaotic experience of Agra that you had. We as a country are better than that. I hope things improve and also thank you for visiting our country and spreading awareness about the good and the bad things that happen here!
Don't be sorry, we understand that good and bad things happen everywhere. We still had a good time regardless of the hassles. We plan to visit India again to see even more one day too! :) We hope things improve for you guys also. We know most people doing this are in situations we just don't understand as tourists, but India is such a great country & has so much going for it! It would make a LOT more money through tourism if the scams were reduced! We're hopeful! Things can change if the change is made! :)
No, it was… I didn’t include the arguing back and forth for a while (notice the cut) because it got a bit heated lol. We handed him 1500 and he was arguing for like a while about not returning the 200. I think normally we’d give more benefit of the doubt, but this was also after being shortchanged like a dozen times in Agra. Lol.
Having made this trip just a couple of months ago I gotta say I totally wish I had discovered you guys before we left. Your videos are cool and fun. Keep 'em coming. 🙂
Oh I hope you had a great trip!! And hopefully you did not run into too many petty scams! Thank you so much for watching!! SO happy to hear you have enjoyed them!!
Northern big touristy cities like Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Rishikesh, Kolkata are notorious for tourist scams like this unfortunately. Sad to see so many new travelers feeling frustrasted because of these touts/scammers. I recommend other laidback destinations for a more memorable experience of India: Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Kochi, Pondicherry, Hampi, Goa, Amritsar, but for summers I recommend mountaintowns like Leh, Manali, Shillong, Darjeeling.
We still had a good time and fortunately Agra was the only place we got scammed (other than the whole Uber/Ola thing where they get cancellation fees lol) We have a looooot more of India to see. Hope to visit again soon!!
The best part of the video was when the auto driver wanted to take you guys to some shop for commissions and all of you said no in unison. Just loved that 🤣. Next great thing you guys did was to firmly tell the driver to stop the auto when he tried to take a longer route. I always scream in my head when foreign tourists are too polite to these guys who are trying to pull a fast one in the first place. So proud of you guys! Also know that the police has a zero tolerance towards harassment of foreign tourists. Just tell the guy we are recording you and we will share it on social media and then call the police. That should sort 90% of all scammers! When in India always be 'bindaas' (look up the word), never be a chicken!
Hahahah it was a little annoying and stressful at the time but it makes for a good story. I just hope these guys knock it off. They would make a lot more money if they just charged more and were reliable!!
One thing these scammers dont understand is they are ruining their own Country's reputation worldwide insted of honestly going about their business. Good work by you guys, these things should be brought up so that things can get better hopefully.
Thank you!! We understand why they do it, but I hope the government steps in and stops it because it does put a lot of pressure on tourists. If they simply charged more for their services so they got paid fairly and didn't pull these scams I guarantee India would be one of the most touristed places in the world! It is very cool!!
It is just shortsightedness, they feel they can get a quick buck, but in the long run it will decrease India' reputation, reduce the amount of tourists and hence reduce the revenue generated. Wish such scammers were put behind bars with immediate effect but the govt. officials in this country are lazy and dont want to do their job.
Chal chutiye India ki reputation ka is se koi lena dena nahi , is se khatarnaak inke western nations mai hota hai ..you literally have mass shootings and mugging going on everyday in western fucking nations ...they better remain in their country.
@@IfWeGoTo You should have told the tuk-tuk driver to complain to the police. Then, he would have dropped you off at your destination without taking any money."
One advice for all foreign tourists to avoid scams is to book with a private travel agency even if it is expensive & no matter how the local chaotic experience looks tempting to you... always book hotels & internal transit bookings (air, railway) well in advance & cabs 1-2 days advance through authentic portals. It would be much safer that way, dealing with such scammers are even the huge task for local/native Indian travellers... Hopefully the situation gets better soon. ❤️
I am from Agra (Uttar Pradesh) There are some scammers in Railway Station and Monuments so be aware from them. We are very sorry for such kind of Moments you and your family faced. I suggest you to book taxi (ola and uber) for betterment next time. Next visit give me a chance for hospitality without any charges.
Unfortunately tourist are at the bad end of the stick when locals try to make a 'living'. But these videos are great to spread awareness. And hopefully it will reach the authorities to provide better experience.
Yeah we definitely understand that a lot of people do run these petty scams because... they don't really see any other way. I know a lot of people are in situations we'll never understand as tourists. We hope it does stop though. It doesn't feel good as a visitor.. even if it's something so small because it is deceptive in nature. I hope authorities/government instead of punishing these people can help teach them how to run their businesses and treat tourists better, so that they can have a better life too. India is SO amazing and has SO much going for it, and I am positive tourists would rather pay more and not deal with scams. They would probably get WAY more tourism in these areas too!

Hahaha that guy at about 15:00 was so funny 🤣 I was thinking, wouldn't be fun to make a video like getting scammed on purpose for the adventure of it? Talking about the tuk tuk scam here. I have a feeling they just try to go for an easy buck here, but they wouldn't actually be dangerous..or would they? I don't know, would be fun to try 😆 Great video, guys! Cheers!
That guy was awesome 😂 Violent crime is rare in India, it would be an interesting concept. I think if I was a guy and in a group of guys I may be willing to give it a go. 😂
I've been living here for 26yrs and Agra is just 100kms from here.....Idk is that hard to reach to the Taj Mahal. I really like the way he was narrating history.
I hope you get to visit! It's a very cool site in India! I will let him know that you enjoyed it, he is great at explaining things and I know he will love your compliment! Thank you! :D

The best states for visiting : Kashmir, Rajasthan, Kerala, Ladakh, Sikkim, Goa, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Oh God, that tuktuk scam is all too familiar. We had something similar happen while in Thailand with a driver in Krabi. We were trying to get to a dock, where we had already booked tickets for a boat ride to our accommodation. We were watching the GPS, and the driver was trying to take us somewhere totally different. We confirmed the proper address multiple times, and he acted like he was taking us where we wanted. He took us to a totally different area, where HE owned a boat, and tried to get us to go with his company. Anja flipped, and he then drove us the additional 15 minutes back to where he was supposed to. 😂 Besides all the scammy BS, it looks like you guys had a good time! That kind of stuff does put a damper on things though. 😕
Ugh yeah, of course! We have heard of it happening in a few other places too! I know it is usually minor, but those guys are really pushing their luck basically abducting tourists. Its really scary when you're in a foreign country and all of the sudden someone starts driving you off the wrong way! I hope they are able to fix it one of these days. It is a very cool country and theyt would get way more tourism (and tourism dollars) for it!
@@IfWeGoTo We recently went to Morocco, and as much as we loved it, there are scams everywhere as well. We talked about a few incidents we had in our latest video (without focusing on it too much) and it definitely pissed some people off talking about it. 😂

Thank you!! I don't believe they allow any sort of tripod or selfie stick, I think they would probably stop gimbals too. An action camera I think would be ok though! We were allowed to bring our big camera and a point and shoot!
I hope you have an amazing time in India. Do enjoy the food, culture and festivals. I am excited to know if you enjoyed the festival of Holi recently. So sorry to know that you faced scams. Great video, thank you. I'm visiting India for the first time later this month and using the trains a lot. Once you've booked your tickets (which I have in advance via the IRCTC website site), how do you know what carriage and seat number you are on as I can't seem to find the answer anywhere? @IfWeGoTo thanks so much for the reply. I've got the confirmation e mails of the bookings, but there is no coach or seat number on them. Maybe I'll have to ask at the stations 🤔
@Mikes_Travels which class did you book? I know they have like 1st, 2nd, and some have like a standing/economy class where you just cram in! Hahaha. We always booked 2nd. Maybe that is it?? But they are very helpful at the stations too!
@@Mikes_Travels I’m sure you’ll get it figured out no problem!! Happy travels!! If there’s anything else we can maybe help with, don’t hesitate to ask! 😃🤗
Fact check: all the historical sites charge extra for cameras & mobiles if shooting is allowed, different counter than tickets may be. Also at the ticket counter, it would have been genuine mistake by the staff for the currency because they can't scam as they are under surveillance. Being an Indian, i apologize to you guys for few scam experience by my fellow indian people, i wish people will learn behaving with our guests...
In our experience this isn’t true. Many places allowed it with no extra fee, and the ones that required fees had it posted if an extra fee was required. We had checked the front desk… no fee at Akbar’s tomb was to be seen. Some if we asked only required fees for professional equipment, like actual cameras you would use for movies or something. Ticket counter I’m not totally convinced of it being a mistake. We handed him 1500 for tickets that cost 1300. He argued with about the change for a while. There is a slight chance, but we had been shortchanged almost everywhere we went in Agra. It hardly felt like an accident and we ultimately decided to include it so people knew to look out for it. That said, we still had a good time and you don’t need to apologize for them! We can empathize with why it happens, but I wish for India’s tourism that it does stop!
I'm very to sorry to this side of agra there are few scammers in agra you know some of people who is in every city but other side of agra is splendid by the way I'm from Bareilly that is another city to visit which is approximately 200 km far away from agra ❤
North India is beautiful but too hectic to travel through, first time tourists should travel to Kerala and Karnataka. More chilled out and also a lot of culture to see
Huge relief to watch you guys made it without incident on your own. Nice to see clean roads and somewhat clean environs. Just do not flaunt your westerness and you will be fine. Ignore pleas and move on. Unfortunately happens.
Ahh thank you! We overall really enjoyed our visit... any scams were just petty. In hindsight, I wish we had just gone with the flow a but more and accepted them! It does feel bad, but it was so not worth it to be upset over the amounts they were asking for!
There are various App based services in India for Hotels ,Cabs ,buses, Trains food,Sim Cards etc which give good quality services at fair price .......India needs to put information about this services on tourism website for education of tourists
We had decided to do a tuktuk for fun this time, but Uber and Ola generally worked for us in the big cities. However in Jaipur and Jodhpur they weren’t working. I guess they don’t pay drivers enough, so drivers will accept a ride, but then never come. So they force you to cancel and collect a cancellation fee from your card that gets charged for canceling. Uber and Ola have no timeout function for drivers that do this. When we called Ola even they refused to believe or help us, which makes me think these apps take a cut of the cancellation fee. It’s a real shame.
@IfWeGoTo HI there, it's because Cab drivers have to pay and percentage of Total earnings to that companies for using their app for finding customers.......In small cities drivers want to use app for finding customers but Don't want to pay the fees to the company that's why drivers force customers for canceling because they Don't want to show to the company that they cancel the ride ......In reality customers don't have to cancel ride because it's driver denial to serve the customers
I understand, but I don’t understand why they agree to a ride they won’t take. We’ve read that they get a cancellation fee. Even when we offer cash payment they don’t come. Riders are forced to cancel and charged a fee for canceling. The drivers after accepting rides simply don’t move… and like we said the app doesn’t time out. So you either have to wait until the driver cancels (which can be a VERY long time) or cancel to get a new ride and get charged a fee. And the process starts over again.
@IfWeGoTo You are right .....these pathetic people ruin the image of the country by their poor quality services .....as a common Indian we only hope that in our country tourists get good travel experience in India 🇮🇳........I am sorry as an Indian for your bad travel experience in India .....I hope we will improve our services in future and provide a better solution for this 👍
Don’t worry, they don’t ruin the image of your country. It’s inconvenient sometimes, but we had some of the best experiences in India too. I just hope India can overcome these problems so that you guys get more visitors! I know these guys would be making a lot more if these companies just paid them fairly. We’d happily pay more for reliable transit! It’s a really cool country, amazing people, history, food, etc and deserves more!!
These situations are very unfortunate.. Govt. is not doing enough to prevent these people from committing scams. I advise tourists to always hire a travel agency for better experience.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! We have a lot more of India to see!
Thanks for sharing this video! This is really helpful, especially since I'll be traveling to India in a few months.
So happy to hear that it was helpful!! Hope you have an amazing trip! :D
Almost as beautiful as Brandi 💖 Alan has obviously done his homework as his information is really helpful.
Aww thank you! 🥰
glad to hear it helped you out! I’m glad he had a bit of history ready too!! It’s very interesting!!
So sorry for what happened with you guys, hope you're enjoying here..
We very much enjoyed our time regardless! :D Thank you!
We hope things improve for you guys also. We know most people doing this are in situations we just don't understand as tourists, but India is such a great country & has so much going for it! It would make a LOT more money through tourism if the scams were reduced! We're hopeful! Things can change if the change is made! :)
Bro 7 8 booking counter I don't think that is scam they are insult more Indian ares scam
Lol.
@@IfWeGoTo I am south Indian Kerala state don't insult Kerala . south Indians more educated.
Kerala wasn’t even mentioned….
Miss You, from Thailand
.
Aw thanks! We actually just left Bangkok a few days ago. Made a quick stop after our trip to India. Hope to visit again soon!
Northern big touristy cities like Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Rishikesh, Kolkata are notorious for tourist scams like this unfortunately. Sad to see so many new travelers feeling frustrasted because of these touts/scammers.
I recommend other laidback destinations for a more memorable experience of India:
Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Kochi, Pondicherry, Hampi, Goa, Amritsar, but for summers I recommend mountaintowns like Leh, Manali, Shillong, Darjeeling.
We still had a good time and fortunately Agra was the only place we got scammed (other than the whole Uber/Ola thing where they get cancellation fees lol)
We have a looooot more of India to see. Hope to visit again soon!!
Thank you!!
This is
The best part of the video was when the auto driver wanted to take you guys to some shop for commissions and all of you said no in unison.
@@IfWeGoTo you could pay them 50 times they will still try to fleece you.
Well said.. We are from south India and got scammed today.. I had the same thing on my mind.. Next time I will book from a private tourism company...
I love how well informed you folks are. Great research! So impressive!
Ahh thank you so much!!
No worries, we understand that it’s just part of travel sometimes, just wanted to help other potential travelers know what to look out for!! :)
Everyone takes Airtel sim when arrived in India .... But in reality Jio sim has far better internet service & speed then Airtel!!!!
Ohh that is good to know! Next time we will give them a try! Airtel was good most of the time, but not always!
Hey, that looks crazy! Thanks for the tips
Thank you!! Hope they help on your journey!!
@@IfWeGoTo True. You know what, come to Kerala. Go to Alleppy backwaters. Take the houseboat that steph and pete took in their channel. Since there are two couples you might have one of the best experiences ever. Also Check out Munnar and theakkadi in Kerala.

Hahaha that guy at about 15:00 was so funny 🤣
I was thinking, wouldn't be fun to make a video like getting scammed on purpose for the adventure of it? Talking about the tuk tuk scam here. I have a feeling they just try to go for an easy buck here, but they wouldn't actually be dangerous..or would they? I don't know, would be fun to try 😆
Great video, guys! Cheers!
That guy was awesome 😂
Violent crime is rare in India, it would be an interesting concept. I think if I was a guy and in a group of guys I may be willing to give it a go. 😂

Some states I do not recommend you to visit/ or visit first are : Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka) some of these states are backwards while others don't have much to do/ visit.

Besides all the scammy BS, it looks like you guys had a good time!

1:54 Those are coolies, they will carry your luggage from the entrance of the station to the train for a fee
Ohhh I didn't know it was a service! Very cool! What would you normally tip someone providing this?
@@IfWeGoTo They will tell you how much they charge. It's usually around ₹50-100, but I haven't travelled by train in a while, so it might be more
Fact check: all the historical sites charge extra for cameras & mobiles if shooting is allowed, different counter than tickets may be.
@@IfWeGoTo even we are anticipating positive change.. hope it happens soon

Hahaha thank you for the tips! Definitely something we should have done!
I hope India has these problems resolved one day! Until then, that is a great tip, especially for people not as experienced in the region. Thank you!

We hope it ends, because it would greatly improve tourism, but the overwhelming majority of people were so helpful, kind, and warm to us. :)
Tajmahal's wall used to be full of stones or dimaonds like Emerald ,lapizlazuli, ametheist and many more stuffs engraved on the designs made in the wall when emperor Shah jahan had it constructed. That emperor Shah jahan got bankrupt to complete its construction..Later his son Auranzeb imprisoned him in Agra fort and allowed him to have sight of the tajmahal from the prison's window...
Later ,those stones and diamonds were broken from the wall, looted and exported to Britain by britishers during the reign of Britishers
During world war 2 the Taj mahal was completely covered with bamboo sticks so that no plane will drop bomb over it...
And delhi is the capital of scam..it is not like that only foreigners are scamed even tourists from other part of India are also subject to be scamed..
Wow this is very interesting history! Thank you for sharing!
Go to amritsar golden temple you love to
Next time we will definitely have to visit Amritsar. So much India left to see!
Actually what he was going to take you to shop where he get paid to bring customers, It just handful of rickshaw drivers does this scam. 90% Rickshaw are safe. Wish you safe and happy journey.
Thank you very much! Luckily it wasn’t too much more than an inconvenience and (now) a funny story!
Scam only happen in Delhi and Rajasthan.. please visit north east and south side and West side..you never feel scam or bad experience..most uneducated people stay in Delhi.. Don't stay much.. always use ubar
We fortunately didn't get scammed anywhere but Agra (other than a few Ola/Uber fails lol), but have heard that they are more common in more touristic areas near the golden triangle. Either way, we definitely hope to see more of India.
Hopefully the scamming dies down soon, India would make a lot more money from tourism if it changed!!
I feel so sad about you guys because you guys seemed so genuinely happy to be travelling like localites before getting scammed . Like i am from india but at a different state and the way i get treated and given the same or similar scams like today inself i told a driver very clearly i want to be dropped off here and he agreed and when time came he tried to make a turn to keep me further away and when i called him out he started trying to scam me like you all too. he tried telling to get down and no payment required but since i was late i offered to pay more instead which is totally wrong. They really try to steal and harass just ANYONE who's not a local be it even people from states of the same country they dont care at all. They are very classless. I hope u read this and feel heard. This is their character dont take it personally. Well dealt with guys. and i suggest not paying at all if it happens again. Id surely do the same. Losers really.
Aww thank you for reaching out. We had a great time in India, regardless of the scams. Unfortunately there are some people all over the world who do things like this. Do not worry, we do not take these things personally, nor as a reflection of the people or country. We met so many WONDERFUL characters in India and they far outshine the petty scammers. That, and petty scams just are not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
Sir please upload video of both of you playing holi
We unfortunately got really sick and had to leave before Holi, but it looks like such an amazing celebration! Hope you had a great Holi! Maybe we can come back to celebrate next year!
Please, avoid this golden triangle route and go to places like Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Shimla, Gangtok, etc.
We had a good time and are glad we got to see it! But there are definitely a lot of pretty scams and pressure to be prepared for!
Next time we will visit different regions too!
@@IfWeGoTo Tell your friends whoever is planning to visit India to skip the golden triangle route. Don't go to Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan. Visit places like Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Shimla, Gangtok, etc.
23:59 I doubt it tho..there are so many paintings of Mughal era where kings are painted..

We it’s a bit more complex in India (and many other places too), but we were explaining common themes & influences in the architecture/art.
Do upload your videos regularly, i promise it wont take much time to grow your channel you just need to upload some videos related to indian culture people etc.
Thank you!!! We’ve been uploading videos for a few years! We have a few more from India!!
If you can believe it, it’s been our worst performing set of videos in a while though! 😂
But we still loved visiting! It was one of the countries we wanted to see most.
Thank you!
You should have told the tuk-tuk driver to complain to the police. Then, he would have dropped you off at your destination without taking any money."😂😂
Hahaha, next time we will have to give this a try instead!
Jahangir is Akbar's son, who had 20 wives, majority hindu. Jahangir harem is related to Akbar's son & not Akbar himself
Also tajmahal is made by shahjahan (Jahangir 's son, Akbar's grandson) for his wife
Ohhh got it, thank you very much!

I was with my gf from Europe and we both travelled together india, in delhi we had small wordly fight with hotel, as they were so rude and this guy said later you are with white girl, thia is the mindset of our people, and later we landed at agra airport and tuk tuk guy said you are our indian brother, and we made deal at 200ruppes later he started saying 500 rupeee for just 7 km. They really made you feel fool and angry.
Ah I am so sorry to hear you had some struggles there too... it is a crazy place! Some of the nicest, most hospitable *and* some of the most difficult people in the world! It can be frustrating to travel in, BUT we found most of the people there to be brilliant!
Visit Bhubaneswar ❤️
🙏🙏👍👍
Thank you!!
