Two weeks ago, a Belgian internet celebrity asked me about the details of how to trip in Taiwan, I directly shared your video with him!
I will do this when someone asks me relevant questions in the future. I think the Taiwan Tourism Bureau can ask you to be Taiwan’s tourism ambassador!
I have successfully crossed that very narrow cave before. I think most Taiwanese people at that time could successfully cross without bringing anything with them.
However, considering Alan’s height and carrying a backpack, I really don’t recommend that you go in to challenge!
I also think that rock looks like a frog, support Alan! Brandi is very considerate in reminding everyone to be careful when taking photos on the road!
Super great video, love you both, thank you very much for sharing! 👍🥰🙏
    P.S.
    1. That performance is 歌仔戲/ Taiwanese opera. Taiwanese opera (kua-á-hì) is a traditional folk opera that originated in Yilan, Taiwan in the early 20th century.
It is also a representative performing art. Taiwanese opera is performed in the Taiwanese language, and its contents are mostly familiar stories of loyalty, filial piety, and justice.
It was an important entertainment activity in Taiwan's early agricultural society. It was loved by Taiwanese people and became Taiwan's main folk opera.
    2. That snack is 麻花捲/ Twist roll/Hemp Flower, Twist roll (Máhuā juǎn) is a traditional snack in Xiao Liuqiu. It is made by mixing flour, sugar and salt, and kneading into a shape of twist roll.
After deep frying, it is coated with powdered sugar. It is very popular with tourists.
Xiao Liuqiu is outlying island. In the early days, the supplies were not abundant. Most of the local residents made a living by fishing.
Hemp Flowers are made for the relatives who went sea fishing as snacks. It is convenient to carry and store at sea.

We would love to work with the Taiwan Tourism Bureau! That would be like a dream job! Maybe one day, right? :)
I did not realize the cave was so tiny, that makes sense now though!
Thank you so so much for watching and sharing your VERY informative comment! Sometimes it is hard to find this information, so I greatly appreciate people like yourself who take the time to help us learn more!!

35:48 Taiwanese opera (Chinese: 歌仔戲; pinyin: gēzǎixì; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: koa-á-hì; lit. 'Song Drama') commonly known as Ke-Tse opera or Hokkien opera, is a form of traditional drama originating in Taiwan.Taiwanese opera uses a stylised combination of both the literary and colloquial registers of Taiwanese Hokkien. Its earliest form adopted elements of folk songs from Zhangzhou, Fujian, China. The plots are traditionally drawn from folk tales of the southern Fujian region, though in recent years stories are increasingly set in Taiwan itself. Taiwanese opera was later exported to other Hokkien-speaking areas, such as Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Fujian, China.

  • @leeritenour

The last snack, why it is called 麻花捲. Its shape looks like a hemp rope.
麻: hemp. It may not sound connected by the word itself, but you can see it as an abbreviation of "hemp rope".
花: you will find "flower" when translating it directly, but in Chinese, "花" can be used as "pattern" as well.

When I go to the island for the weekend, how much cash should I bring and how did you book your hotel on the island?

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  Год назад

Hi!! It is hard to say how much cash you will need because it can vary so much with where you stay, how you like to eat, activities or souvenirs you may purchase, how many people are going, etc!
I would do a little math for how many meals you will need and what experience you want to have (like sit down vs street food), determine the cost of transit, the amount if you need to pay you hotel in cash, a budget for extras that you may be interested in, and then set an overall budget from there and bring a bit extra in case of emergencies. Taiwan is very safe, so carrying around a fair amount of cash should not be a problem!
Also for booking the hotel we used the website "Agoda"! It's quite popular throughout Asia!
I hope that helps! Happy travels! :)

Sea bed dredging is a big business in China. Gigantic Chinese boats have been dredging sand around Taiwanese islands for decades which accelerated coastal erosion and decimated fishing business for these communities.
