About 400 years ago when the Spanish first came to Northern Taiwan most of them settled down in Demsui because the Taipei basin was a lake in fact due to its heavy rainfall all year round. The Ketaglan indigenous people inhabited the brim of the lake and they used canoes to move around. during the beginning of 18th century immigrants began to channel away the water into Demsui river and reclaim the land building the irrigation system there and Taipei developed step by step into a metropolis we see today.

Love your video and Beitou is such a cool place for day trip. The aboriginals used to called Beitou "Pataw" which means where the witches lives because all the smokes from the hot spring. The aboriginals thoughts the witches were casting spells that's why it is always smoky there. That's how Beitou got its name 😊
Back in the early 1980s, when I was a child, the Thermal Valley was like a natural hot pot! People could directly access the boiling hot spring water, which made it quite dangerous, resulting in accidents from time to time. The most popular activity at the Valley was boiling eggs. There were stalls around the area selling raw eggs, both chicken and quail eggs, to visitors. People would immerse the raw eggs into the hot spring water, rotate them using chopsticks or whatever sticks they could find nearby, and finally, peel the eggshells to enjoy the authentic hot spring eggs! However, this activity led to a messy and unpleasant park area, as many people would casually discard their eggshells and chopsticks everywhere. Later on, the government intervened and decided to rebuild the Thermal Valley park. They prohibited access to the hot spring water, which meant no more boiling eggs. While it may have become less fun, the park now appears calm, much cleaner, and, in my opinion, much nicer.
Thank you for sharing this! On one hand I am sure it is a bummer to have more restrictions, but that is wonderful here that with them they were able to transform them to make them safer and better for everyone! Jade, which is 3952m and the tallest mountain in East Asia. You need to book the only one lodge near the peak though.
@@IfWeGoTo The temperature on the peak of Mt. Jade is usually below five Celsius even in the summer. Anyway, it requires a bit preparation to climb such a high mountain. But it's worth it. I climbed it once, and seeing sunrise on the peak was really fantastic and fulfilling. It's very difficult for Taiwanese to book the lodge near the peak, but relatively easy for foreigners to book.
Hi!! This was filmed in April/May earlier this year. I believe at the time masks were mandatory in the trains and some stores, but I think that has since been dropped and is optional now! It seemed pretty relaxed, so we just went with what most people were doing. Although some private businesses may ask you to wear one. :)
The Hot Spring Hotel rooms can usually be had for just a couple of hours. That's what my family does when we head over to relax from Songshan, where we live.
Appreciate u showing us Beitou. Now, I will ride over there. I cannot help to wonder why ur wearing masks? Because u think it is protecting u from the poor air quality? If so u need to get heavy duty masks . Really beautiful folk regalia. And, u look so pretty and sweet modeling it. Thank u. I just found yall on here. Will subscribe.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!! Hope you have a great trip! :D This was filmed earlier this year and many places (like the museum) requested you wear them inside! Most people did so we just kind of went with the local flow. :) Thanks so much!
@@IfWeGoTo Thank u for ur reply. I understand. Today we are going over to Jiufen and I am going to search for those yummy looking cheese pastry thingies that u ate while there. That was nice vid, too. Happy trails in all of ur world adventures.🌠
The old name of Thermal Valley is Hell Valley or Ghost Lake, because there's always steamy and mystery, and many years ago tragic accident happened that one tourist fell in the lake and died, but fortunately nowadays the government turns it into an attractive place.
I could definitely see it being mysterious, did not know about that grim history though. How sad. :( Regardless, it has been transformed into a lovely area!
They were still required on trains at the time and people still wore them in crowded areas. So maybe we had forgotten or had just been through a crowded area. Or pollution. We wore them prior to, and now after the pandemic if it’s heavily polluted outside. Does it bother you or something?
This was filmed earlier this year, so I think around that time it was just before they dropped the mandate in some locations. I’m not sure what the rules are now, be I would guess some private business still request them or people prefer them in crowds
Thanks for watching! :D What would you do on a visit to Beitou?

Jade, which is 3952m and the tallest mountain in East Asia. You need to book the only one lodge near the peak though.
Next time we definitely want to visit Taichung!! Mt. Jade sounds like it would be fantastic to visit too!
I want to go! You two have highlighted so many really neat places. Sadly, the wife wouldn't like the food options 😢 Me on the other hand 😂
You totally should!! What type of food does your wife like?? Taiwan has a lot more options - we just tend towards street food! lol
She is super picky, so it's hit or miss. I like you love street food.
Ohhh, that happens!! I bet if she tried some of the street food she would grow to love some of it! There is really something for everyone!

I like to see your video❤
Thank you! So happy you enjoyed it!
🥰
Thank you!!
Very interesting, looking forward to a Taiwan trip in 2024. Are masks compulsory or just a choice?
Hi!! This was filmed in April/May earlier this year. I believe at the time masks were mandatory in the trains and some stores, but I think that has since been dropped and is optional now! It seemed pretty relaxed, so we just went with what most people were doing.
Although some private businesses may ask you to wear one. :)
Hope that helps!
@@IfWeGoToThanks that's great 👍
❤❤❤
Thank you!
Hi Brandi, you are really beautiful in that costume. Is Alan too tall to wear the dress?
Thank you!!! Unfortunately he was too big! They only had this one for try on, and I barely was able to fit!!
😎❤️🇹🇼‼️
Thank you!!
You missed Beitou Library. It is a beautiful library.
We didn’t film inside but we did get to go see it on another visit! It was really cool! And great views too!! 😃
@@IfWeGoTo Did you visit National Palace Museum in Shilin District?
@@cheng-enwang1299 Oh, no we didnt get to see that! We stayed in Shilin too! 😭
@@IfWeGoTo You can visit National Palace Museum next time. It is worthy.
We definitely will! :D Thanks for your recommendation!
I am now craving fried chicken. 😂
It was pretty delicious 🤤

Okay! Not only Japan have a many Onsen
Yes, Taiwan had so many great options for hot springs!!

Thank you!
So beautiful 👍👍❤
Thank you so much
The Hot Spring Hotel rooms can usually be had for just a couple of hours. That's what my family does when we head over to relax from Songshan, where we live.
They were so nice!! We stayed for 4 nights when we returned. Do you have any recommendations for where to rent time at an hourly bath?
@@IfWeGoTo I don't have a name, specifically. The place where we usually stay sits next to the circular end of the park, gray stone-facade.
We will look out for it next time!! Thank you!!
安安
晚安 :D
Your next India trip ...soon ?
I hope we get to visit india again soon!! We really want to see Kerala, the Himalayas, and the North East!! :)

That edit😂😂😂 12:47
Hahaha we just had to do the hot springs right!
This was filmed earlier this year and many places (like the museum) requested you wear them inside! Most people did so we just kind of went with the local flow. :)
Thanks so much!
@@IfWeGoTo Thank u for ur reply. I understand. Today we are going over to Jiufen and I am going to search for those yummy looking cheese pastry thingies that u ate while there. That was nice vid, too. Happy trails in all of ur world adventures.🌠
Hope you had fun and were able to find the pastries!! They are great!!
Thank you so much!!
I'm upset that it's mostly Taiwanese watching your vlogs (judging from the comments). I hope more people in the international society can see Taiwan.
I hope so too! It seems to be a problem with travel vlogs - so it's not just us it happens to!
If you wear that on your head, it definitely will improve the Wifi Signal.
Hahaha, hey we all like having good wifi!
How sad. :(
Regardless, it has been transformed into a lovely area!
Stinky tofu vs the smell of thermal valley, 😂
Oh the smell of the thermal valley ANY day!! hahahaha
Why are you wearing masks outside?
They were still required on trains at the time and people still wore them in crowded areas. So maybe we had forgotten or had just been through a crowded area.
Or pollution. We wore them prior to, and now after the pandemic if it’s heavily polluted outside.
Does it bother you or something?
Still wearing masks?
This was filmed earlier this year, so I think around that time it was just before they dropped the mandate in some locations.
I’m not sure what the rules are now, be I would guess some private business still request them or people prefer them in crowds
Thanks very much we will be in Taiwan in December. Learning a lot of you nice little movies. We love the calmness of your videos!
Thank you!! :D
