"Layercake Madness" A Beginner Quilt Tutorial (The Remake)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 ноя 2024
- This Verbal/Visual Pattern is 100% Beginner Friendly.
Takes 1 Layercake of 42pc 10" Squares.
If you want borders then it takes 1 yard for border 1 and 1 1/2 yard for border 2.
Top comes out 68" x 76" with the borders 😊
I have made this before. But since I was asked for a quilt for a shop and I needed a beginner friendly pattern, I decided why not renew this video with a somewhat better video quality since the first.

I need to say my husband passed away 7 months ago I have been trying to find my self without him after almost 50 years I found you and you have helped me beyond words. I just want to say Thank You and may our LORD JESUS always BLESS YOU
Awe 😔 sorry to hear that 😢 HUGS!
I hope that you can find the strength to find yourself despite the sadness. Quilting is the best therapy for all situations. I'm sure you know that. Thank you for watching my videos. I hope I can help ya with a bit of inspiration 🙏
Sending you love, may your memories bring you comfort.
I lost my husband, after 52 years of marriage, and I do feel your pain. I just stared into space for what seemed like forever. I started learning to quilt(self taught) and the challenge took my mind off my heartbreak. I’m glad you have been helped as well.
Hugs to you.
@@patsysweat8536 Hugs to you.
What a sweetheart you are..no fuss ..no muss..just quilting fun…my kind of teaching..🇨🇦
Thank you 😊
Tiffany, that tip about sewing the border strips together is worth the price of admission. Thanks.
Tiff, you are an excellent teacher! As a long time seamstress, as well as a classroom teacher (retired), I really appreciate your organization, teaching style, and peaceful demeanor!! You repeat instructions clearly, precisely, and you give the student confidence to keep going!! Fantastic!! I’m so glad I found your videos! They are a joy to watch!! 🥰💖
Thank you 😊
I usually don’t comment but this really caught my eye. I have a layer cake just waiting for this pattern. While I’m here I must say that I love watching you. You share so much in such an easy going manner and I love that you are sometimes in your PJs.
Thank you so much 💕 And I live in my PJ'S haha
@@TiffanysQuiltingLife I live in my T shirt dresses when at home. They are so comfortable and easy care.
I have had 2 beautiful layer cakes I could not cut because they are so pretty. This should be perfect with large and small squares. Plus design does not take away from the fabric. Thank you!
I like that you don’t skip most of the sewing. I love sewing , so watching the process of the whole quilt getting put together is nice.
Thank you 😊
Creating your border fabrics by pushing the first strip away so that the other fabrics in your piles are right sides together is very clever and time saving. I'm glad you taught this method
I so love this quilt. No points to match up or sew over. Nice to do something simple for a nice change. Love the layer cake you used! Thanks Tiff for the inspiration!
Thank you 😊
This looks like a good idea. Best part is none of the seams need to be lined up. Love the rotary cutter. Want to get one.
The rotary cutter is cute, I agree. I prefer the older ones. They are a little harder to use. I pick it up and then I have to figure out how to hold it. Maybe it’s just me. You can decide for yourself. Good luck
This is so beatiful. The more I look at it the quilt the more I love it. My cuppa tea. Colours are great.
Tiffany made this quilt for my granddaughter she loves it.😊 Thank you for posting
Wonderful! 😊
Fab. I learn just watching you sew and how you manage fabric, cut with scissors at machine, etc. Thank you.
Thank you every time I watch your videos I learn so much.
As someone who just received a sewing machine as a birthday gift last week, your video is immensely helpful and inspiring!😊 Thank you so much.
Tiffany you are such a good teacher, Thnk you for all your videos,
You are so welcome!
thanks for instructing us on a logical way to measure and add borders ...great way to use a layer cake. Thanks.
I just found this while searching for a quilt to make using only one layer cake. I can't wait to get home so I can make the cuts.
Have fun! 😊
Love the method you use to add borders and sashings! I always have trouble adding borders and tend to shy away from adding them. Thank You. Beautiful quilt top using a layer cake without cutting them into a zillion pieces. ❤️
Thank you 😊

Wow! the time of work you put into this quilt is beyond amazing and impressive. You have lots of patience and I commend you for that! very good quilt
Thank you so much!
This is an awesome pattern!! Most times when you buy a layer cake you really don’t want to chop it up into a million Little pieces. The beautiful pattern of the fabric is not lost in the quilt pattern. Love it!! I’m sure I’ll make a few. ❤️❤️
Ya this is great for large prints
Super clever way to use a LC ! Not one shred of waste, either! The newest thing I learned here ... I have never seen anyone put their border strips together in that fashion. BRILLIANT and faster than fiddling around doing the angled method. I'll have to try it and see if I like the outcome as much as the fiddly way ... FAST to put those 6 strips together like lightning. I always measure through the middle of my quilt and cut my border strips to that length ... yet you just sewed straight down each edge, cut away what was needed for that side, and it still looks flat as a pancake with no ripples! Incredible!
Thank you 😊
Your music is so peaceful and calming ❤❤
I love how quick this goes together
As so many have already said - I love that the layer cake is not cut up into a zillion pieces. At the same time the variety makes it so interesting! Always something to learn from your videos, Tiffany, Thanks 🐈🌞🌈
Thank you 😊
You are a fabulous teacher! Thank you!❤
Wow! I didn't think a layer cake quilt could look so good! Thank you for sharing this pattern. It will have to be added to my "to do" list for sure.
Thank you I’ve been looking for a layer cake thing that didn’t cut them into teeny tiny pieces I’m gonna use this
Tiffany, love this. You’re a lifesaver…have some layer cake packs that I don’t know what to do with…you’re brilliant. Thanks so much 😍🇦🇺
What a FUN, innovative, quick quilt! I love playing with new ways to make fabric work together. Conformity isn’t necessarily my “jam”. I search and search for things that are different, like this and continue to come back to your work. I do tweet things to suit myself, just as you do, since we’re all artists. I’ve got the perfect fabric on its way, it’s a little bit louder than you chose, so I might be wrong, but when it’s done I’ll send you a picture. Thank you, dear one. I’m praying for Gods blessings on you.
Thank you 😊 it's definitely fun and would look great in many different colors
Hi Tiffany. I wanted to let you know. I got up this morning saw this video and decided to make it. I just finished the top. Thanks for sharing this pattern. Easy to do and looks great. Thanks!
Woohoo 😊
This is a great starter quilt but also for someone that wants a simple project to work on to get back in the swing. It’s so nice to see your channel growing, Tiffany. “I remember when”. 🥰
Thank you 😊
I love how you speed up the video so the video isn't so long. Very pretty quilt. Love the borders. they make the quilt stand out.
Thanks 😊
I have been saving a special layer cake pack for just the right application. This is it. I’ve watched this video several times and I think I’m ready. Thanks for your expertise. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Go for it! 😊
Thank you for a truly beginner quilt. I made this and WOW what a confidence builder. I love it.

What a grand way to put this together using a layer cake and very simple cutting instructions … I just love 💕 😊
Your accuracy looks so effortless! Thank you for sharing your talent with us. So inspiring!
Thank you 😊
That is the best use of a suction cup grip bar I have ever seen! Brilliant!
Thank you for sharing this video. I will definitely be making this pattern 😊
I started my quilt today! Thank you for this video!!
This is so cool. Love it. I also love your music choices when you are in fast forward mode.
I think this video screamed at me to stop over-thinking everything and JUST DO IT! I have been setting seams and ironing every seam on even the simplest of patterns, finger pressing, what a relief!
Well I am glad this gave you that Ah-Ha type moment 😊
U r a great teacher & I too love your relaxing music selections. I really enjoy your tutorials. I also very much admire how you push yourself through even on some of your most painful days . You are amazing!
Thank you 😊
What kind of rotary cutter are you using??
It's a Martelli Ergonomic Cutter shrsl.com/4p2d8
You did a fantastic job on this video and the quilt!
I've made all my blocks, 42 of them, and have put together the first row. I love this and thank you for posting it!
Fantastic 👏
Beautiful that’s all I can say. I enjoy every video you do. I try to square my fabric the way you do but it never turns out like when you do it. Very disappointing but one day if I practice it will happen. Love from New Zealand.
Well I hope it comes out for you next try 😊
It’s always amazing to watch you create a quilt Tiffany. I have a charm pack ready to sew with and this is perfect to use it for. Thank you 🥰
Tiffany this is gorgeous..I swear you are always showing us such beautiful quilts and you make it look so darn easy..Thank you much for all you do..Seriously you are a saint..❤️

Received a lavender layer cake "madness" will be perfect for a new quilt. Thank you so very much.
Love this way of moving Fabrice.
This has-been a wonderful video! I love how that turned out. It gives me an idea for some odd squares I have that I need to use. Thank you so much for sharing this ❤️
Wish I could give you a gentle hug. Absolutely beautiful and simple.
🤗 Thank you 😊
I don’t very seldom comment, but this is. awesome and can’t wait to try this . Thank You
Thanks 😊
Thank you for repeating and repeating what you are doing. After a while I can ‘get it’. Seeing the way you Iron the squares becomes (almost) a kinetic memory in my mind-if that makes sense.
Totally makes sence 😉
This is an awesome video. Always learn something new by watching someone teach. Thank you
I’ve enjoyed both your “Madness” videos! Thanks Tiff! It’s great for showcasing a layer cake& instructions are perfecto! ♥️
Thanks 😊
Ohhh WOW , this is really nice and not that difficult to make ! ! Great Job Tiffany 👍👍👍😊
I absolutely Love this quilt, Tiffany!! I’ll be putting this one on my project list!! Thank you so much! 😍
I love the "planned" randomness of this quit. I am going to make it. (hopefully).
Since sleep was not going to happen, I turned on RUclips and there you were Tiff! So at 3am I watched LayerCake Madness. I'm hooked but I commented to cleaning my store room before I start anything new but it is on the list. Great pattern!
Have fun cleaning ☺️
@@TiffanysQuiltingLife You're a funny lady, aren't you? LOL
What beautiful piano music to go with a darling fun block ! Thanks Tiffany❤
So happy I came across this tutorial. Great for beginners but also a great quick sew project . I am looking forward to more of your tutorials.
I just love your videos, you make it look so easy. Thank you for us how to work smarter not harder! ❤
I have been watching you for a couple of years. I am rewatching this video. I just noticed that you have a Missouri Star Quilt map of the town! I live about an hour away from there! I love that place. I get there several times a year whenever I can convince my husband to take me. We could go more often if I ask. I need my husband to take me because I can’t drive due to brain surgeries in the recent past and such.
That's cool that you live near MSQC. It's probably a fun little town to fabric shop in 😊 and it's great your husband drives you 😀
@@TiffanysQuiltingLife There is about 15 different stores to visit. Each one has a theme. There is even a man cave with TV, pool table, recliners and vending machines. I have to visit each one at least once. They are always working on a new store when we visit. The workers are ways nice and helpful.
That's awesome 😊 Someday I will be able to go visit there 😊
Your creativity is absolutely amazing. Beautiful. Your laid back style of explaining directions are also. Love it.
Thanks 😊
What a beautiful quilt! Thank you for sharing.God bless. 😊❤❤
Love this Tiffany what a great idea and so effective
I LOVE the result!
Want to make this one.
Great tutorial!
Thankyou!
Thank you! 😊
Thanks Tiffany * just loved watching this quilt being put together. I enjoy your relaxed way of joining up everything. 🌻
Thanks 😊
Hi Tiffany. Fantastic quilt. Very inspiring to find and simple quilt layout that I can easily complete in one day. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your videos.
I'm just started back to quilting after a 3 year break. Somehow I messed up and my first block is not matched up like yours. I'll just carry on. However, I LOVE your teaching style and the background music. Thank you!
Your welcome 😊 You can do it! 😊
OMG! you make this look so easy. I will make one of these. Thank you so very much for this video!
Long armers say not to add the borders that way because they can end up very wavy and make longarming a nightmare. There is a proper way to measure. I've done it the way you do but bought a long arm and now I understand why measuring is the best way. I do enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing .
I've not had a issue with wavy borders from the way I do it. I've done both ways and now I just do this way cause I find it faster and less stressful 😆
Fascinating following your whole process, can you imagine to actually be able to work this fast. Your quilt turned out great. Nice fabric line. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
This one without being sped up only takes a couple hours. I wished all quilts went as fast as my videos though 😄 🤣 😂
Just found you today. Such a beautiful quilt. Very easy instructions ty so much for sharing your talent with us newbies
This is a quilt I will plan to make. Thank you. ❤🇨🇦
Enjoy 😉
So pretty. I love that fabric. 🦋🦋🦋
I LOVE this method of cutting the layer cake and the final result! Beautiful! I have several layer cakes the I purchased just because I loved the fabric. Now I know how I want to use at least one of them. The way you explained how to do this was very easy to follow! And I loved the sound of the video, nice relaxing music through the sewing part. Good job. Thank you!
Thank you 😊
This is beauty, I'm so glad I found you I'm new at this kind of stuff bit I would love to learn everything I can about quilting . I would love to be able to make a quilt from start to finish.
Thank you so much for the video I hope you will show how to finish it batting and all oh and how to put the back on a quilt.
Thank you & God bless you.
I show in many older videos. I finish by longarm quilting for the most part.
Wonderful instruction. Great work and easy pattern for anyone to quilt.Love your videos. So sorry for your loss.😂
Becky Kleaver from NC.
🕊 Tiff, you are so good at teaching the process. Excellent tutorial and quilt🥰 Show us after you quilt it, please🕊
You are a very good teacher.
Thank you! 😃
I love how you've cut so much time off of putting this together! You must have an engineers mind! Ever-so organized! Thank you.... and your choice of music is soothing not nerve racking....thank you for that also!
Thank you 😊
Tiffany. You are amazing!! And did I also say you’re a whizz 🎉. I probably have at least 50 layer cakes. You’ve given me another inspiration from this tutorial. Come on over!!
The quilt turned out beautiful. Everytime I have tried to do borders like you showed, they turn out wavy. I was told by my local quilt shop owner and my long arm quilter that I need to measure! I wish I could do it your way!!😁
It's not for everyone. But it's not been an issue so far. I measured a few times and they turned out the same. So I kept with my way. But do what works for you 😊
Love this, Tiffany! The cream inner border really makes the quilt pop. I’ve learned so many piecing tricks fro:you!
Stay well!

Thank you for another brilliant tutorial and for showing me how easy it is to make a complicated quilt that my family will think is wow. I hope.
you made it look so easy, Beautiful
You’re a really good teacher. The result is such a darling quilt😄
