There should be a class action against GM for these cracked dashes. Our $70,000 4wd Suburban’s dash cracked in three places. Totally unacceptable. That said also had Both front wheel bearing hubs, motor mount, and radiator all go out at 60K miles and this is a mom truck that gets babied.

    • @kataysmith9581
      @kataysmith9581 2 года назад +3

Yes, my front wheel bearings went also , plus a part coming off the radiator causing an antifreeze leak, now the crack on the dashboard. There should be a class action!

Sorry for the second reply, I did some research last night and there was one, but GM’s big fancy lawyers out ruled it saying that it wasn’t a safety hazard (which I can see that it is, if the air bag deploys and the dashboard pieces come at your face) they said it was cosmetic, so the people lost and GM won of course.

Older video, but worth a shot. Seemed like this may have been your personal ride. I just picked up a ‘12 Denali for a good deal so I’m combing RUclips for the tiny little issues with it. I had a ‘12 Silverado and it’s crazy how diffeeent the dashes are. Never should have sold Black Betty…especially to my cousin who has royally thrashed her 😢 We have a ‘21 LT Trail Boss I call BlackJack and I really like the softer more padded dashes on them now.
One of the other things I wanted to see if you had an issue with….Bose head unit works great and looks great except the touch screen doesn’t work. I can navigate with all the physical buttons and so on, but zero touch reaction. Im sure if I dig some more and search the right terms I’ll find something. Wanted to ask and give thanks for this dash video all at once. Appreciate your time and subscribed. 👊🏼

Thank you for your helpful video. $52,000 for a new 2009 GMC Sierra and the dash cracks in several places at the 40,000 miles mark. GMC ought to be ashamed of their lousy product but they are not. This my second and last GM truck. They could not care less.

I just installed one of these on my '09 Avalanche...great product. I used sand bags to weigh it down and pipe insulation jammed under the glass. The only problem is the 1" edge on either side at the bottom. I closed the doors, left the windows open, and jammed a wooden yardstick between the plastic edge and the window jam. I flexed the yardstick enough to hold down the plastic and left the whole thing to cure overnight. It worked great.

I had the same issue with the car Seems the main two issues with GM cars for 2007-2014 were consistently there and they made sure they did not fix them for 7 years until the new models came out. The First was the door handles which were just coming off breaking. I have replaced 12 door handles (each two to three times) over the 10 years. in fact, I bought a a box of these door handles and kept them for spare and I ran out of them. I have seen the same issues with all my friends who had these cars and even advised my brother when he bought his that the first thing you will replace is the door handles and it did happen after just 9 months.
The second the the cracked dashboards, I have seen this on all my friends GM cars for these models which make the dashboard looks so ugly. If you are at a parking lot, just walk around and look at the similar cars parked, you will see door handles that are loose and cracked dashboards. QA at GM is terrible and worse is that they never fixed it for 7 years until the models have changed. it was like they decided why fix it when every single car sold would come back and replace the dashboards and door handles and make a ton of money in after sale service and spares. after that experience, I gave myself a promise and managed to keep for until now (13 years now) that I will never buy another GM (Tahoe) again (previously, I bought 3 Tahoes cars). They just lost a loyal customer and I advised all my friends against buying.

A shame the class action lawsuit for the dash issue got dismissed due to not "having enough" for a good case. Complaint wasn't specific enough, insufficient evidence of it being a design failure instead of coincidence, no estimates of what models are effected, etc.
In fairness, the judge that dismissed it said if they were to tighten up the complaint to fix those things, it would be fine to replead.
But man, gathering that kind of evidence takes much more work then most people are able to devote, especially for a primarily cosmetic(?) issue.
    Again, a shame

With that center speaker cut out on the replacement dash being so small compared to the factory speaker cut out is that a big enough cut out being significantly smaller to still get optimal performance/audio out of that speaker? I have a audio system in my Tahoe and the speakers inside the doors and the one in that dash were very expensive. Would I be losing sound and/or performance with such a smaller cut out? My dash has recently cracked also but if that tiny cut out is going to mizinmize the performance of that speaker for what I paid for it I may just drive around with it cracked. I'd love to hear your opinion or thoughts. Thanks man

I haven’t noticed any Audi loss but I also have factory speakers. I did get rid of that annoying dash rattling with the center speaker moving around so I’m happy about that. You could always test for it and play some audio before you install it. I wouldn’t think you’ll loose too much audio. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.

I have a 2009 Tahoe Z71 with the same crack pattern as on your vehicle. I am curious about something that you mentioned in a reply to a post by Jessie Espinoza about 11 months ago. This is your reply to said post: "It comes with the silicone and I used. 2 part epoxy in the edges."
If you mentioned 2 part epoxy in this video, then I missed it. Did you actually use something like J-B Original Cold Weld, or J-B ClearWeld, and if so, did you only apply it to the lowest parts of this cover, where you held it down with the yellow tape?
Any response would be greatly appreciated.

It took 10 years to crack even though it is parked inside a garage with 88k on the odometer. Shame on you GM !!!!! And that's why I buy from other manufactures now. WARNING: I installed a Dashskin about 12 months ago in my 2014 Yukon. The original dash was really FUBAR and I had to put some real work into firming up the remains of the old dash around the speaker before gluing down the Dashskin.
Last week I received a recall notice from GM that the passenger airbag needed to be replaced. My GMC dealer says they will have to pull off the Dashskin in order to replace the faulty airbag. Also the entire wood grain front panels and other dashboard elements must also be taken off in order to remove bolts that secure the airbag in place. So, since dealers feel no obligation to preserve or replace owner-installed third party components, and given it is well glued down, all agree the Dashskin will likely be broken, as well as the underlying fixes to the original dash damage. In that case, I would wind up with a new airbag but also be left with an unsightly and further deteriorated and damaged original dashboard.
The dealer has very kindly provided me an estimate of $1,300 to install a brand new dashboard as they put things back together after installing the new airbag. Isn't that nice of them?
Since this is a nationwide recall how many more owners will face varying versions of this costly situation?

@@kenaldrich1117 I’ve gotten updated pricing from the dealer - it gets worse. Now they won’t remove the Dashskin - don’t want “the liability”. So, I have to prize it off all the glue spots myself. Even if I pay for a new Dashskin they won’t install it - “the liability”. What remains of the original cracked dash will have to come off to do the deed, again, they will maybe reinstall all the pieces but there’s “the liability”.
I told them I would bite the bullet and pay for a new GMC dash to go back on after the sir bag swap. (The vehicle is otherwise pristine snd worth more than I paid for it two years ago as a used Denali.)
Get this - GM is stopping manufacture of new dashes any time now. May already have. Only hope is to order from existing NOS still in the system. Nearest source is in California, maybe one left. “Better order now, if this is what you want to do.” Now $800 for the parts. Everything on the truck’s dashboard has to be removed: all trim, Infotainment Center, controls, all the color trim. Then reassembled after the new bag installed. They showed me the parts explosion. Most likely a whole day to do. $1,000 labor. By the time it’s all done, maybe a $2,000 dollar job (of course, air bag parts & labor free).
But I better move quickly while new dash kits are available.
Today I ordered the kit. I’m so mad I could just spit!
