  • SmartStrength is the variable resistance technology on all PRIME with a SmartCam and TorqueArms.
    .
This technology allows you to change the resistance curve and how much resistance there is at different portions of a range of motion.
    .
    This allows the following:
    - Benefit of a wide variety of exercises right in one place.
    - Adjust the training stimulus of a movement for your goals
    - Quickly perform supersets, dropsets and extended sets
    - Work around an injury’s and it’s weak position(s)
    - Chose the perfect resistance profile to work on performance related goals
    .
“PRIME’s SmartStrength technology allows you to be more effective and efficient in training every demographic in ways that no other equipment can” - @coach_kassem @n1.education .

I’m hearing Doug Brignole talking levers, direction of resistance, resistance vs strength curves and mechanical advantage/disadvantages - not to mention optimal loading.

Really neat ideas. The first style is not changing the length of a torque arm though. All 3 points maintain their original distance from the center pivot point throughout the entire range of motion. What you are doing is moving the parabolic force curve around as each point has a different position in relation to gravity. Are you saying there is an eccentric linkage in between the plate arm pivot point and curl bar? The second machine has an actual eccentric cam that way be adjusted to change the length of a torque arm. I'm glad someone is still making equipment like this, I miss the old Nautilus stuff.

torque isnt an arm. and yes they do change. the moment arms are getting longer or shorter depending on the pin placement relative to the axis. it was even measured in the video

That's a great idea on how to measure, I always wanted to see what the difference was on my Strive pieces, I have used a luggage scale to see what they are when I use bands with a barbell, don't know why I didn't think of doing it on my machines. Thanks.
Its hard to tell and explain to the general lifting population on how valuable the variable resistance is and how effective it is for working the muscle, most times I have to let then try it for them to really understand, and it just seems like the more serious lifters really care.

I use a Digital Crane Scale (with backlit display and the much-needed, 'hold' feature) with my cable machines (not an affiliate link)

You might want to checkout powrlink, too. The Powrlink Sensor is an extremely compact device you can connect to your fitness equipment which records and visualizes the force that is created during your workout. Simply hook it in-between the handle of a cable tower or other equipment. It continuously measures force data and shows it on your smartphone or tablet. - powr.link/

I think this system is best left on the machines. The point of cables IMO is to get a consistent pull throughout the entire range of motion, quite UNLIKE what free weights provide due to leverages and gravity being in only one direction.

so the dumbell is closest when your arm is straight and furthest when in the mid position? hmm, seems that your arm would be the same length in any positoin

He is actually explaining it at the start of the video. It's the weight's horizontal distance from the point of the rotation ....in a biceps curl that would be your elbow. This is an essential topic for every serious lifter to understand. Most don't.

I have an extensive background in Nautilus, MedX & SuperSlow exercise and understand the requirements of full-range exercise & variable resistance. So I'm wondering what are the benefits of having two additional lever moments (not unlike Strive) in addition to the one (in this particular exercise, position 2) which provides the most accurate tracking of muscle-joint function?
Another way of asking that is, what are the benefits of using loading position 3 (and to lesser extent, 1) in this particular compound pressing exercise? Thanks

    • @dualShockRK98
      @dualShockRK98 3 года назад +2

Well your point does really make sense. Because on pressing movements ( bench press, squats) we have a strength profile when we are stronger at the top and much weaker at the bottom then why would we want to make the bottom part heavier and lighter at the top. The resistance profile wouldn't match or muscles strength profile but on the other hand you literally can do a full workout in one piece of equipment. Just like he said in the end people have been trying to train all muscles positions. spider curls for biceps to challenge that short range, and then some other exercise to train the lengthened position. So all in all its not that useful as prime makes it look but long story short it can make your time at the gym more efficent and sometimes you can literally finish one workout on one machine not to mention you can also do supersets or some type of finishers.

2 and 3 shift the parabolic force curves in relation to gravity to the beginning and ending of the movement, respectively. 1 in a more neutral graph. On a side note, didnt Prime purchase Strive?

3 to overload short, 1 to overload mid (which matches the strength profile)
