Uriah heap one of my favourite bands,I was 19 when it came out we were spoiled for choice of all the bands in London there were so many clubs too go to,I loved them all. 😅
I'm 72 and have been a fan since 1970. I still buy their stuff. This tune is one of my favorites. The whole song is great but the middle section just floors me every time. I always love seeing the reaction of people who aren't familiar with them. They always seem to say how great the band is.They're right. (USA)
Tears In My Eyes blew my socks off when I was 18 in '71, and it still does. If it doesn't make you get up and move your body, nothing will. What a high! Heep rules!
Love your reactions. Since 1970 I'm a fan of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath & Deep Purple, but Uriah Heep was, is and will always be my absolute favourite Rockband! To learn about typical Heep-sound, I would recommend the songs Time To Live, Circle Of Hands, Weep In Silence, Wonderworld, Look At Yourself, Echoes In The Dark and/or Return To Fantasy. Best heavy song: Shadows Of Grief; best ballads: Why Did You Go & Rain.
Saw them live 50years ago what a great band. Ken Hensley got out from behind his Moog to play this track. You should listen to it on the ‘73 live album it’s awesome 🤙🏻
Mick Box is one hell of a jolly fellow. Got sweet memories from a gig at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, long ago whereafter we played pool with Mick in one of the bars.
I like the Heep, my cousin has a grandson named...Uriah! So yes, my cousin is fan on another level! Plus, if you were listening when it came out, is also about the era , music was really going in so many directions was amazing...not many cover the heep, Thanks! Keep on!
I got the chance to be a roadie for a day when Uriah Heep played in Västerås, Sweden, october 1988. I was not into them by then, but I was a big Black Sabbath fan. Heep put on a great show with many of their 70's classics. I could watch them from the side of the stage.
I was lucky enough in the early 70s to have a friend who's older brother was a musician. He played bass and church organ. He got me to listen to Gary Thain who is an all time bass player in Uriah Heep. Ken Hensley plays assault organ-see GYPSY. David Byron is a terrific vocalist. Uriah Heep was a top 5 English touring band in the states during the 70s. I saw an interview with Robert Plant on why Led Zeppelin was so popular in the Southeast USA. He said, "Because England settled that part of the USA, English bands can sound Southern to those folks. Very similar vocals."
Way to Go Super Dave 👍👍 a classic hard rock number. Perfect reaction and discussion NicknLex, glad Lex is getting a better taste for Uriah Heep. Look in my eye, 👁️💧a very underrated band and always great band.
Another underrated band from back then is Spirit. Randy California was singer/songwriter and lead guitarist. He died in 1997 while saving his son. From Wikipedia: “California drowned in the Pacific Ocean in 1997 at the age of 45 while rescuing his 12-year-old son Quinn from a rip current near his mother's home at Molokai, Hawaii. He managed to push Quinn (who survived) toward the shore.
Hi Nick and Lex! I'm not sure that there was so much rivalry with prog and rock fans because we all liked the same kind of bands Zeppelin, Yes, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Floyd, Genesis, etc. However there was a debate about the best bands, guitarists, etc. every New Year rock news magazine Melody Maker published the poll voted for by the fans. For example October 1974 : Joni Mitchell was voted top female singer, replacing last year's winner Carly Simon, who fell to third behind Scotland's Maggie Bell. Yes was named top band, while its Jon Anderson and Steve Howe were voted top writers, its Chris Squire top bassist and its Eddie Offord top producer. In addition, Rick Wakeman, a former Yes man, was voted top keyboard player. This always generated discussion and debate amongst fans on who is the best.
The Beatles wrote the Rolling Stones hit. "I Wanna Be Your Man" is a Lennon-McCartney-penned song first recorded and released as a single by the Rolling Stones, and then recorded by the Beatles for their second studio album With the Beatles.
As a fan of Dire straits and Uriah i accepted this reaction ;) I started with Dire straits and my uncle give me the tape. On side B was Uriah heep Look at youurself album. Maybe underated but ... have great fans , thwre is some heepsteria and thay play to these days. Look at the album Sea of light and the song Time of revelation. Sounds like in 70. Look at great Live 73 album with nice rock n roll medley or best Gypsy version
NicknLex, Heep is still rocking today. Try a song or two off of their latest album, Chaos and Colour, where they solidly return to their progressive roots.
I've long been wanting to see a reaction to this song and finally ... you've done it! It was a favorite of friends and myself back in the 70s, when Heep was right up there with Sabbath and Purple in popularity. Thanks! Also, be sure to notice the rhythm guitar counterpointing with the lead at 6:56. Very funky and creative!
Uriah Heep for a lyrical bass song go with sweet freedom , for a jamming style bass go with why bonus track version. Deep Purple, Led Zep, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep all toured with each other
Absolutely brilliant, the music is amazing but i agree that the vocals are SO good, another incredulously underrated band much like Wishbone Ash and the other bands quite rightly mentioned. Thank you very much indeed for your insightful and genuinely enthusiastic reactions
There's a lot of comparison between Uriah Heep and, Deep Purple. One of the first LPs I bought was in 1972 and it was Deep Purple's 'Machine Head', closely followed by 'Fireball' and 'In Rock'. My older brother's friend went as far as calling Uriah Heep a 'poor man's Deep Purple'. Now that I'm half a century older, I'll take 'Look at yourself' and 'Demons and Wizards' over 'Fireball', 'Machine Head' or anything else Deep Purple can offer.
Adam Wakeman (born 11 March 1974) is an English musician and the current keyboardist and rhythm guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne's band; he also played keyboards and guitar off-stage for Black Sabbath.[1] Wakeman has also worked with Annie Lennox, Travis, the Company of Snakes, Strawbs, Will Young, Victoria Beckham, Atomic Kitten, Martin Barre, Uriah Heep and Deep Purple. Wakeman has often collaborated with his father, Rick Wakeman, and has released albums with him. He has also released solo albums Soliloquy, 100 Years Overtime, Real World Trilogy and Neurasthenia. In 2006, he created his own band, Headspace, with Damian Wilson.
Uriah Heep is the name of a negative character in Dickens' novel David Copperfield. And, quite possibly, it was because of its name that neither the producers nor the managers liked the band. Therefore, Uriah Heep has always followed in the wake of the more famous three British bands: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. But ordinary people think differently and Uriah Heep albums are still being bought today. Thank you for nice reaction!
My older brother had this album and left it behind. No idea how much he ever listened to it or even liked the band (probably not much). But I played it and skipped most of the album except for this song and July Morning. No slight to the other songs necessarily, maybe I just didn't give them enough attention. But this is the song that really stuck for me. Nice to see if get some dedicated attention here.
John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music? and Asia) was their Bassist on two albums, Return To Fantasy and High And Mighty '75 - '76 respectively. (for the heck of it)
Nick, Uriah Heep was big enough over here that they could headline concerts at the arenas. As I told you before, I seen them with their classic line up. With Manfred Mann's Earth Band & opening the show with their new drummer for the first time in the U.S., Rush. Unfortunately the Uriah Heep your friend saw only has one surviving member Mick Box from the classic line up that made them who they were.
Soooo..????...Woooo!!! Threw us a curve there Nick, lol. Highly underrated band, although they got quite a few hits on the top 40 circuit. Look at Yourself, one of their top five LPs. I wonder if Mick Box ever got together with Foghat's Rod Price? Similar guitar styles.
Mick Box Guitar and acoustic Guitar David Byron Lead Vocals Ken Hensley Keyboards, Slide Guitar, acoustic guitar backing vocals (lead vocals on a few other songs) Paul Newton Bass Ian Clark Drums Only Mick Box is till alive.
Firm believer that UH were just as influential in starting rock/metal as Sabbath or any other band. The album Demons and Wizards should be an album reaction for you guys.

I was 14 years old in 71 and listen to this LP many nights long. 😊
@@TECHASKI1 Right on, old timer!😄
I was a Heep head back in the day. I preferred this over Deep Purple. They were definitely way underrated.
one of the best bands ever...as good as they are underrated...milestone of rock...and don't underestimate your mother...she really knows about it
One of my favorite UH songs from probably my favorite UH album.
Underrated doesn’t even begin to say it. Thanks so much, Nick & Lex for doing this reaction to Uriah Heep.
One of the first albums I ever bought when I started working in a service station at 14. 1971. I still have it.
Another gem from 'Look at Yourself'!!!!
Paradise the Spell !!!!❤
Really cool song, Thank you Dave for a great request, Thank you NicknLex for a great reaction and conversation.
Finally someone gives some well-deserved attention to this classic song! The rest of the album is top notch too, especially the rest of side 2.
OMG, THE HEEP! I had this album when it first came out. (Yeah, I'm old.) This track is just nuts, and a true example of early metal.
Love your reactions. Since 1970 I'm a fan of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath & Deep Purple, but Uriah Heep was, is and will always be my absolute favourite Rockband! Some of Ken Hensley’s solo stuff is great

I saw Heep and Purple live in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1995. Heep were really good.

I played in a cover band back in the 70s and we did this song. I got to do the slide guitar part!
I'd forgotten how good this was - i always loved this song on their first live album but this was a great throwback to my youth
Thanks Dave for hearing my plea!!😃
Guys-- their entire Look At Yourself album is a banger! Dive in! :-) T
Title track is a real banger also, insane drumming at the end.🤠👌

Got this album when it was first released and saw them live 4 x unbelievable
You're the only ones to review this song. Thanks, one of their best.

Good as ever....
Albeit with different line ups.

Uriah Heep - Weep In Silence
The Wizard was always my favorite but this ranks near the top too!

I saw Led Zeppelin live in 1970 and Uriah Heep live in 1971. Both concerts were excellent and I agree that Heep has never been given their proper due.
Hello, this is your chronicler speaking : you did the song Salisbury in Narvik's marathon along with Alex Harvey ... and you were blown away by both 🤣
This is there best album react to it
Nick, Uriah Heep was big enough over here that they could headline concerts at the arenas. As I told you before, I seen them with their classic line up. With Manfred Mann's Earth Band & opening the show with their new drummer for the first time in the U.S., Rush.

В Советском Союзе Uriah Heep больше ценился, чем Led Zeppelin, который исполнял обычные классические блюзы, голосом ночного кота.

The Look At Yourself album must be played all the way through. Picking a single tract does not do it justice.
Uriah Heep - "Dreamare".
Gypsy from Uriah Heep's debut album has to be next. A great heavy track, and the song that launched the band's discography.
I believe they did that already.
Mick Box Guitar and acoustic Guitar
David Byron Lead Vocals
Ken Hensley Keyboards, Slide Guitar, acoustic guitar backing vocals (lead vocals on a few other songs)

Manfred Mann guest
On moog synth
Bouth of you should also listen to Pilgrim from the album Sweet Freedom and the song Paradise/The Spel from the album Demon and Wizard
I am them at the Fillmore East in the early 1970s
Heep were best with Ken Hensley.
No doubt.
Southern rock psicodelico, es lo que contestaría si me preguntaran por el estilo de la banda. Tal vez por esa guitarra slide. Muy bueno realmente!
