First I want to say, I'm horrible with money, so I have huge respect for the fact that you're able to do this. Just confused, how can you survive with $60 in a month on groceries. I mean is there no inflation?! And $10 for restaurants, that's how much one cocktail costs. 😮😮😮
I like the system, but kinda get frustrated with the amounts... 10 dollars for restaurants? what can you get in a restaurant for 10 dollars??? same with dates and fun... there is no fun in 10 dollars...
@@Helltowakeupeverymorning it really depends what city you go to though i feel. it would be quite hard to only have $10 for restaurants in a place like nyc or bostn.
@@whereami2130 that is true. And I’m also assuming she doesn’t put 10$every week for resturaunt. Maybe she just wasn’t expecting to go to a resturaunt that week so she just out a small amount of money for emergency’s.
Once i get debt free (about 10 months until my car and 18 months until my loan is paid off) I'm going to do this so i don't put myself back in debt, I'm 28 and made some bad choices with credit cards but the past few years of not being able to afford fun things, i think has broken me of the FOMO that got me into debt to begin with. Now i actually stop and ask myself if whatever i'm buying will improve my life or if it will give me a temporary dose of serotonin.
I have been longing for an iPhone since +-10years ago and still debating whether I should splurge and go FOMO for the iPhone 13 pink.. or save until I could get another chance in the future.
can u explain to me the credit card part because our payment system here is different and I would like you to give me an advice how should I use the credit card ?
@@zakraouisara9191 well I think its more like how well you could control yourself about your spending in regards to what you could earn, so the balance stays in positive and you don't get into trouble by going into credit card debt. Because if you only pay the minimum bill for credit card, it will charge an interest based on how much you still haven't pay them in full (if you purchase something more expensive than you could afford, for example, if you feel Fear Of Missing Out in buying the latest iPhone, in 12 month installment for example, each month if you pay your credit card if not in full as charged that month, it will build up 'debt' that is compounding in interest)
I was thinking the exact same thing! I really wanna give this method a try but... the way I do things now is, I pay all my bills or cards then whatever money I have left over is gas/food/etc and WHATEVER is left over from that is my personal fun money 🥲🤧✋️
Did watching this give anyone else anxiety? I don’t like having too much cash on me (I usually won’t carry more than $100). And this method seems like such a chore, though I can see how it would be great for someone who earns tips and/or who has the time, patience, and enthusiasm for such a task. I was scrolling through the comments trying to find the answer to how she pays her bills but didn’t see any response from the content creator. I have most of my bills on autopay because I worry about being late on any payment.
My place won’t accept anything but check, I wish they would do cash though. I hate using the bank cause I really don’t trust the electronics to organize my purchases, so many ways a false charge can get undetected and makes it harder to organize & save. With this method you can feel it in your hands, visually view what needs to go where, and I think this is a more trustworthy way of operating. Also it makes you more apprehensive about spending because just a click of the button can be addicting and making it way too easy to overspend. If it’s right in front of you I feel like I save better doing it with cash. Too bad everything charges on card though. 😢
Probably case to case basis. This is maybe good for those who wanted to save up and track their expenses or those with little money to make sure they can budget. If you are usually a credit/debit card person you may need a different strategy.
It can be a chore but it really helps people get in tune with their spending habits. There is an app that does this same method which I prefer because all my bills are paid online and too much cash on hand is easy to lose. For those that need something physical to budget, I've seen people use fake money while the real money stays in the bank.
As a social worker, I have helped people budgeting many times. Personally, I’m not a big fan of cash either (for the same reasons you gave). But for some people, budgeting with ‘real’ cash, gives them a better look on their spendings. It can be easier for some people to see the money they are spending while they are doing it. For those people, I would recommend having there bigger bills (rent, etc) on auto pay on their account and the “luxury spendings” (going out to eat, fun things, etc) in cash and organised like this. I hope that makes sense, English is not my first language.
Keeping cash on hand helps with my spending. It serves as something of a physical limit and keeps me from using my card every chance I get. But this is really helpful ❤
I want to learn budgeting so I can move out of my parent’s house after saving up! I’m so so glad there is a RUclips channel for budgeting videos! Thank you :)

See I'm the opposite. If I have a card, I'll spend it all. Where if I only bring the money I'm "allowed" to spend, it'll force me to stay in budget and put stuff back if I can't afford it lol
It’s interesting seeing someone budget like this. Could be useful for those that struggle. I always just had the self control to know what I spend and not over do it. I should send this to my friend lol

I love this!! This is the first video I have seen doing this and up until this point I've not budgeted at all and blown so much money. You have inspired me to start budgeting! I am still young so I am thankful I came across your page, here's to starting something new!
I just loved this video so much. I mean, so much. I have a lot of trouble with money and just watching you saving your money and splitting which amount goes for what just inspired me a lot to look for more tips on your channel! so cute and inspiring :)
I am so bad with my money, but I have been doing better on it recently, so watching your videos always motivates me to improve my saving and minimize my overspending. I love that little binder/wallet! anyways I subscribed so I can get notifications to your channel more often :)
Okay, you know what, I'm always trying to save and stash up at least $300 for significant something but then I need to be on a spending budget of $200 but also need food (but also eat healthier food). Thenon rare occasions, I'll take out either $50 or $150 at most to stash away in case something happens and I end up getting kicked out. But I don't make enough. I'll do it. 🤩
It's trail and error. It takes time to figure out what numbers and categories works best for you. These are my usual numbers but sometimes they have to be adjusted. For example if I had plans to go out with friends I would probably add $50 to restaurants. My pink binder is bills, blue is savings, and the clear ones are sinking funds (mini saving for something that will come up like Christmas, Car Registration, Vacation etc.) and of course my wallet for my daily spending. Hope that helps! 😊

Watching your video is so relaxing thing to do!❤❤❤ I’m 26 and I spend all my money every month😢after watching you planning your money maybe I should start to organize my budget too…but we don’t use cash anymore in my country. So maybe I’ll figure out some way I can do budget online. 🎉
This makes me realise how much of a cashless society the UK has essentially become in the last few years. Birthday money from my Nan is literally the only notes I ever receive!
Obviously subject to your job of course, but most people are not paid in cash and therfore otherwise don’t have the need to keep it on them or around the house because of how widespread contactless payment is for both small businesses and chains/franchises
genuine question - I feel like the vast majority of my expenses (online shopping, bills, internet, travel) is online.. how do you manage to pay for everything in cash?
The cash stuffing could be for video purposes only & she could easily just be depositing it into her account before making the online payments. Cash stuffing could be for organization for her that way she knows how much in a set amount of what she’s paying for.
I just found this channel and this is fascinating to me. My finances are all over the place and there is zero consistency around how much I spend in various categories. I.E. Some weeks I don’t drive at all and some weeks I may be driving to a speaking event 4 hours away. And food is all over the place. Some weeks I’m not feeling well and barely spend any money on food, and other weeks I may go out to eat 3-4 times. I don’t think this sort of budgeting would work for me because my life is just too inconsistent (mostly because of health reasons) but the organizer in me still finds this really interesting!
I don’t think this sort of budgeting would work for me because my life is just too inconsistent The envelopes are part of my "no surprises" budget. Dentist envelope $40/month. $1200 for a root canal always comes at the wrong time. Now I have $1200 for the dentist. $40/month is "consistent." $1200 is not.
maybe in an excel sheet (or journal if thats easier), track your spendings for however long, a week or a month for example. when you get all that info it should be easier to adjust :)
This is great for the kiddos but watching this as an adult is driving me nuts…. Learn a few tricks on Microsoft excel by watching RUclips vids, make a chart of your expenses/saving goals, design you excel spreadsheet, you get good at it, show and talk about your excel spreadsheet on job interviews and land a high paying job cause you’re now good and familiar with working with excel spreadsheets. I like the system. You put clear thought and care into managing your money. I am however confused by the amounts. What restaurant are you going to that you only need $10??? Groceries $80? The rent, I'm guessing you're still living at home?
hey i’m new here, love this idea but i have a few questions. on the categories like restaurants, why do you only put $10 in there? i understand you’re saving it’s just realistically restaurants aren’t that cheap. same with groceries, how does $80 get you by for the month? is this a monthly thing or is it shorter time periods that this is for. sorry if i’m wrong about something haha just a general thought i had
As far as groceries, she lives at home, so she likely just pitches and/or goes and purchases her own wants. The restaurant one does have me scratching my head. Is drink money? Tip money? Perhaps it becomes redundant to repeat all of these things in every video, but she should have something written out in the description so that people getting recommended these videos aren’t so lost. This seems to work well for her because she’s unmarried, seemingly child-free, and living at home.
Her rent is only $145 so I’m assuming she lives with her parents/family. Some of the other bills seem low too so I’m assuming her family agrees she pitches in a certain amount. Still it’s nice to see people budgeting and making emergency funds and not counting on family to be a safety net. The overall idea is applicable to other lifestyles. I’ve been using this method but leaving my money in the bank and having an excel spreadsheet “envelopes”. I don’t trust cash around even the best roommates. I’ve been doing it since I moved out at 18. It didn’t feel like it was working for the first 5-7 years but years later I’m hitting my financial goals despite only having modest income. In the early years I felt like it wasn’t working because my monthly savings were so small but friends in similar circumstances took on expensive car loans and credit card debt during that time to have a similar lifestyle. I’m assuming the $10 a month for restaurants is just 1-2 coffees or one drink out. Or she saves ten dollars for several months and then treats herself to something bigger. Some people don’t eat in restaurants or take a break from restaurants while saving for something special. If you go to restaurants give that envelope more. 😊. Her amounts won’t work for other people, you need to make your own realistic amounts that fit in your budget.
@@CerealSalad yes thank you, i 100% agree, it nice to see this over other people on the internet spending money on useless things. id love to start doing this at some point but as i’m 17 the money i earn can be practically used for anything so i don’t need to budget just yet haha. i know ofc other people’s budgets wouldn’t work for other people, i was just genuinely curious what restaurants she was going to that are so cheap hahaha. thank you for your insight tho i find it really interesting!!
I love budgeting like this but it’s so fascinating to me to see the difference between Canadian and American living expenses. Like here in Canada an average dinner date with no alcohol is at least $80-$100. And unless you’re a student or child there’s no where you can anything fun for under $40-60.
A date can definitely be 40 without drinks. Maybe even a little less just depending where u go obviously.. But idk what u can get at a restaurant for only $10 maybe I just eat a lot

I"m not from the US so this is why I am asking these questions: do you get your salary in paper money and not in your bank account? Or do you take it out all from the bank when you get it. Also, is it worth getting out the cash and paying utilities and all bills this way? Because for me, every payment with a card is easier than to go into a place (or post office) and pay there.
Same I’m so confused about the cash thing, does she not pay anything with card? And how does it work for things which are automatically deducted from your bank account like rent or car insurance I highly doubt you can pay those in cash?
@@palemeadows I’m genuinely asking because in my country most stuff is automatically deducted from my bank account (Netflix, bills, rent, car insurance etc) and I even live in a country where cash is still a big thing.
I like this in theory and makes money more tangible then just phones or cards I could never willingly deal with cash. It's just easier and you can use a smaller wallet
I’m intrigued how spend so little - is this per week or per month? Example, fun is 20 dollar and restaurants is 10. Considering a sandwich at a cafe costs 6-7 pounds. That won’t even last you long… the purse looks cute

New here and super confused. Do you pay your bills online? Or get MOs with the cash and mail it in? Or are all envelopes just mini savings for yourself?
I have a question, do you always spend within the budget for each catagory? Like if you're buying groceries and you're short of money, do you like put some groceries back or take money from another catagory?

To fill up a tank it’s like 30 or 40 depending on the car and how fully you fill it
obviously this varies per person, budget to what suits ur needs. i spend ~$40 a week in gas.
it’s not just enjoyable because it’s a savings video, but it’s aesthetic and satisfying❤
What did I just witness!? This is AMAZING! Wow I really need to get on my budgeting game. Also the way you count your money is so relaxing
First I want to say, I'm horrible with money, so I have huge respect for the fact that you're able to do this. Just confused, how can you survive with $60 in a month on groceries. I mean is there no inflation?! And $10 for restaurants, that's how much one cocktail costs. 😮😮😮
I'm pretty sure that this wallet is per week. So you gotta save up a bit more next week to eat out.
@@juliajuliax thank you, that explains a lot, now I get it
I like the system, but kinda get frustrated with the amounts... 10 dollars for restaurants? what can you get in a restaurant for 10 dollars??? same with dates and fun... there is no fun in 10 dollars...
It is not suppose to be for immediate use - you build up the amount.
You can find fun stuff to do for free. That’s the problem with a lot of people. They think money equals fun. Not the case at all
@@Helltowakeupeverymorning it really depends what city you go to though i feel. it would be quite hard to only have $10 for restaurants in a place like nyc or bostn.
@@whereami2130 that is true. And I’m also assuming she doesn’t put 10$every week for resturaunt. Maybe she just wasn’t expecting to go to a resturaunt that week so she just out a small amount of money for emergency’s.
@@HelltowakeupeverymorningI don’t think that’s a people problem- just almost nothing is free anymore.
I have been longing for an iPhone since +-10years ago and still debating whether I should splurge and go FOMO for the iPhone 13 pink.. or save until I could get another chance in the future.
with how stupid apple acts that pink probably wont be released again for a long time lol so i say go for it
Feel you. Same situation. The good thing is that we learned, the bad way, but we learned.
can u explain to me the credit card part because our payment system here is different and I would like you to give me an advice how should I use the credit card ?
@@zakraouisara9191 well I think its more like how well you could control yourself about your spending in regards to what you could earn, so the balance stays in positive and you don't get into trouble by going into credit card debt. Because if you only pay the minimum bill for credit card, it will charge an interest based on how much you still haven't pay them in full (if you purchase something more expensive than you could afford, for example, if you feel Fear Of Missing Out in buying the latest iPhone, in 12 month installment for example, each month if you pay your credit card if not in full as charged that month, it will build up 'debt' that is compounding in interest)
I make the same in 1 paycheck and have never been able to set aside money for that many things .. you’re awesome
It’s not smart to use cash over a credit card
Anyone else feel like this would be amazing asmr?
I thought of this technique when I was 16 that was 17 years ago. It’s good to see so many people doing it.
Taking envelopes out was a such a great idea. so satisfying to watch you fold those bills
Keeping cash on hand helps with my spending. It serves as something of a physical limit and keeps me from using my card every chance I get. But this is really helpful ❤
I'm 18 rn and am excited to do this, you make ppl realise that they need to think smart with money and finances , keep up the good workk
welcome to another episode of what youtube recommended me~ have no idea what this is but it’s relaxing 💜
I want to learn budgeting so I can move out of my parent’s house after saving up! I’m so so glad there is a RUclips channel for budgeting videos! Thank you :)
Not even five minutes in and i immediately went to the entry shop I’m so excited for my cash envelopes I love cash stuffing and your videos have been helping me so much
I’m 10 and I started a business , I make bracelets and I also make phone charms . I usually save all my money and put a lot of my money into my collage savings , but I’m also thinking of starting to try this method that you do 💞
Hope you grow your business and save for college. Good luck!
I love this video. I used to be so good at saving my money, but the past 5 years or so I’m in debt and unable to save anything past $300 a year! Need to try this system out for 2023. Thank you !
May I ask why?
Oh I feel that. Went back to school that doesnt give financial aid and loans are not allowed, I’m broke broke, but once I’m done and have a better paying job I want to do this to help me save again quickly.
This is so therapeutic to watch. I love money envelopes and hers are so pretty.
$10 for restaurant? What do you eat?
my exact words were "do you get a meal from McDonalds or something?"

i love budgeting. I don't use cash im strictly a debit card user, i feel like in the long run i was saving more using my debit vs cash but love writing down my bills every month and feeling organized. its helped me save so much. im only 25 and feel financially comfortable because of budgeting
I should send this to my friend lol
i was super looking forward to this video, the tone of voice basically doesn't change and its driving me crazy
I’ve never seen anyone do it this way and let me tell you you’ve changed my whole perspective on budgeting! ❤ love this xx
Thank you for making these videos :) I will be doing this as my New Year's Resolution - I am terrible with money and especially impulse buying. I think seeing the money physically broken up & playing saving challenges/games will make me see it differently.
Your hand movements are so fluid. My brain is very mesmerized.
I found this video very soothing for some reason 😌
when maria teaches you more then teachers like omg i will definetily do this THANKS! :D
I’m about to get my first job this summer and I’m 17 and I may start this method! But I’ll also explore with other methods and then see which one is best for me. Can’t wait to start making some dough and helping out financially for my family! (And I have a few things I wanna save up for 🤭)
Randomly came across your video and I loved it. I’m so unorganized with my money. Thank you for the idea.
Love these savings challenges, it might make budgeting a bit more exciting! 💙
Yes it does ☺️
Okay, you know what, I'm always trying to save and stash up at least $300 for significant something but then I need to be on a spending budget of $200 but also need food (but also eat healthier food). Thenon rare occasions, I'll take out either $50 or $150 at most to stash away in case something happens and I end up getting kicked out. But I don't make enough.
I'll do it. 🤩
how do you decide how much money to add to each envelope? and what is your system of different binders? fascinating stuff to watch
Maria, I just want to say that you are one of my favorite youtubers. Your voice is always so calming and I love how easy it is to follow your journey.
I love Sweet Bunny Blessings stickers, she has multiple colors to choose from and her shipment is fast. I also like Suns N Roses for other fun stickers, her collection is different and her shipment is also fast.
I can't wait for you to open your Etsy shop!
Thank you so much for your kind word and for shop suggestions! ❤️
I love the way you send your money wisely
Watching your video is so relaxing thing to do!❤❤❤ I’m 26 and I spend all my money every month😢after watching you planning your money maybe I should start to organize my budget too…but we don’t use cash anymore in my country. So maybe I’ll figure out some way I can do budget online. 🎉
I love these videos, they make me feel safe
what restaurant can you spend just $10 at?
McDonald's maybe? $5 deal
Yeah I was a bit confused abt that
I love the idea of having transparent money that means it exist in the bank!
Do they really exist?
This makes me realise how much of a cashless society the UK has essentially become in the last few years. Birthday money from my Nan is literally the only notes I ever receive!
Obviously subject to your job of course, but most people are not paid in cash and therfore otherwise don’t have the need to keep it on them or around the house because of how widespread contactless payment is for both small businesses and chains/franchises
Same in my country but i keep some cash for emergency and well for fun.
Which isn’t that good
Ah! I love that colorful reflective pouch!
genuine question - I feel like the vast majority of my expenses (online shopping, bills, internet, travel) is online.. how do you manage to pay for everything in cash?
The cash stuffing could be for video purposes only & she could easily just be depositing it into her account before making the online payments. Cash stuffing could be for organization for her that way she knows how much in a set amount of what she’s paying for.
said i wanted to do this last year & since then i have made so much progress thank u sm 💕
I don’t think this sort of budgeting would work for me because my life is just too inconsistent
The envelopes are part of my "no surprises" budget. Dentist envelope $40/month. $1200 for a root canal always comes at the wrong time. Now I have $1200 for the dentist.
$40/month is "consistent." $1200 is not.
I'm 39 and i need this method! Thank you for sharing this!
How do you decide how much you put in each envelope? That’s what I have trouble figuring out!
Righttt
You can do the 50 20 30 percent rule 50 to bills 30 to savings and 20 to spend as you wish
maybe in an excel sheet (or journal if thats easier), track your spendings for however long, a week or a month for example. when you get all that info it should be easier to adjust :)
Extra money and new skill acquired!
I like the system. You put clear thought and care into managing your money. I am however confused by the amounts. What restaurant are you going to that you only need $10??? Groceries $80? The rent, I'm guessing you're still living at home?
My parents are suffering from financial problems this helped thanks so much!
hey i’m new here, love this idea but i have a few questions. on the categories like restaurants, why do you only put $10 in there? i understand you’re saving it’s just realistically restaurants aren’t that cheap. same with groceries, how does $80 get you by for the month? is this a monthly thing or is it shorter time periods that this is for. sorry if i’m wrong about something haha just a general thought i had
I would really love how you organise and calculatr your money for your budget system! it's really inspiring how you do it!
🇨🇦 is a poor country and a socialist/communist nation, where the country CONTROLS and dictates your life and EVERY move (“free healthcare”= taxe you for everything). Im a dual citizen (🇺🇸🇨🇦). Living expenses in 🇨🇦 is NOTHING compared to the 🇺🇸. It’s 100 times more expensive in the 🇺🇸 than 🇨🇦. Canadians as a nation are LAZY and don’t like to work. AMERICANS: we work and hustle.
