It's a craggy, beautiful place that has temples and is all nicely made up. You can visit the shooting range where Admiral Yi used to practice his archery. It's pretty goddamn far. I think we'd be surprised at proficiency of soldiers and their ancient weapons if we were to go back. Imagine a world where you kill or get killed depending on how good you are with your weapon. There’s a series depicting Yi Sun Shin’s history on a RUclips channel called extra credit history, and you can actually make some parallels between the videos and this movie, like where the flagship actually fought by itself for a while. But, you don’t have to believe me. You can always just believe that the Koreans aren’t as resilient as they were depicted, and should have been under Japanese rule to spread their anime influence along with their asscheeks before their rightful masters.

It's not a rifle because it won't have rifling.
During the 17th century Joseon fought against some Russians and the Joseon shooters used pretty much the same gun to snipe the Russians.
If you study etymology the origin of the word 'sniper' came from a small but agile bird species called snipe.
An excellent shooter back then would have been able to shoot and kill this bird with a musket.
That's where the word snipe came from.
You really shouldn't be surprised at all. Muskets were fairly accurate.
Getting someone with a bow and a arrow is much harder than using a musket.

@@whoever7033 who says? I mean, the distance is a bit emphasized (it's a movie) but can you see the wind on sight in real time? Korea was a country that used a lot of bows for generations. It comes out in our bedtime stories and legends too. I'm not an archer so I'm not gonna say that's possible or impossible but the reality is that's what they had to do. Maybe in shorter distance but doable.
The military exam in that era involved shooting from 145m, shooting from a horse back and shooting moving targets. Naval soldiers were specialised to shoot on the ship as well. Gakgung or Korean warbow has range of around 300 to 340m.
So as I said, maybe shorter distance but it would have been possible.
One thing that modern people think is that archery is inaccurate and slow but it was never the case.
In many cases, swords were used as a secondary where was bows were the primary weapons during the Joseon dynasty. Archery was important, even scholars knew how to use a bow and it was considered to be a 'must do' for anyone who calls himself a scholar or a noble.
