  • In this full body workout, the goal will be to avoid any exercises that involve flexion and rotation. The primary focus will be to perform exercises in Neutral Spine (all the natural curves of your spine), Extension and Lateral Flexion for the safety of the spine. Everyone can benefit from this bone density building workout to strengthen the hips, spine and wrists. This is also a favorable choice for those who experience neck discomfort or are just beginning Pilates.

After several years in the Pilates studio, I had to quit because of a back injuty. I thought my Pilates days were done because so many of the movements irritate my back. This is one of the first times I can do a 30 min workout with no pain. Thank you! ❤ Please do more neutral spine activities. I felt safe but still challenged!

Could you do a reformer workout for osteopenia? In other words, something focused specifically on strengthening and weight-bearing. Osteopenia is not osteoporosis quite yet, so we don't have to worry about fractures. The aim is building bone back. Would love to know Pilates reformer exercises for this.

Enjoyed this reformer workout. It is my understanding that pigeon is unsafe for osteoporosis. So is there new information on this?

There are different areas that can be targeted with osteoporosis, and depending on which area is at maximum risk such as: hips, spine or wrists. If it is recommended by your doctor then it would be wise to steer away from that particular stretch.

I would have thought sides over the box would be contraindicated for osteoporosis?

If your doctor has recommended not to do lateral flexion then steer clear from it. Typically, it is flexion and rotation that you want to avoid.

I noticed you said 2 red/ 1 Green / 1 yellow spring. Which Springs would you use for some who is more of a Pilates beginner with Osteoporosis

I would suggest 2 Reds and 1 Green spring for double leg footwork, and 2 Reds for any single leg footwork.
