Totally agree with this review. I currently drive a 2016 Ranger XLT looking to upgrade. I can not justify the cost versus inclusions compared to the Ranger I guess it’s a lot of money just for the badge. I would prefer a punchier motor in the Raptor but the 10 speed sure bridges a lot of gaps in the shortfall of the 2.0 Ltr twin turbo diesel to make it ok. Glad the emergency braking and speed sensitive cruise are now included.
Shane Ruthven i have the same issue but when i see all the 2wd pickups in the winter and they drive slower than me in a front wheel drive Golf i will never buy any of them. I dont want to change drive mode every time i need it, i want some permanent 4wd. This is save in any weather and road condition and you dont destroy your gearbox cause you cant forget turning out 4wd. In the pickup class you only have a amarok and xclass with this transmission, v6 power is almost the same, merc has an additional low gear and 3 locks, so the choice is really easy... you get most for your price and yes its a navara underneath but motor, transmission and chassis is from merc and this makes a huge difference.
people pay for Mercs not only for their budge but for its relative luxury feel (even though it could be down on features). With this ute, they have missed this factor when charging 30 to 50% more. Also, if someone buys a ute they generally intend to use it for the purposes their styling suggests, so yes 3 years is laughable.
Foster child of Mercedes. They produced the x350 d from the leftover parts of other models. Ooo bring body from Nissan, ooo bring some OM642 engines left from W series that we will never use, ooo bring some old C class dashboard from woodshed that are useless, ooo bring old slow multimedia from repository that we will not use anymore... If mercedes used GLE or GLS material inside the x350d, they most probably get different results, they could make best pick-up for Europe. After all I bought one last month. :D
If you want a v6 diesel Ute, head to your nearest VW dealer This utes a joke, I’d rather spend 48k on an stx and a few more grand on a tune and you’ve basically got an x-class for 30k less
Everyone in this comment section... are you experts... thats a no. If you have a problem with this car i guess you can not afford it, so you are not in the market for it. You obviously don't understand the reason for it because you are myopic at best. Its a shame really. Fact is its the x class is better and safer and im sure if you could afford it you would look into it. Stop complaining!
The hilarious thing about this ute is that one time Mercedes subsidiary Ssangyong offers a more premium cabin and all the same safety tech plus luxury features that Mercedes are too cheap to offer at less than half the price. Then they offer a 7 year unlimited km warranty. Somebody ought to send the Ssangyong to Stuttgart for a bit of suspension tuning and that big engine. Then we'd have a true winner on our hands, even if if cost $20,000 more (making it about $60k)
