Dumbest Moments In Death Note

  • I was going to do a top 5 but the video goes from having no copyright claims to being completely blocked if I have a fifth moment. Other dumb moments I would've considered are Misa saying she found Kira in one of her tapes, Misa showing up to Lights house after sending that tape, and Matsuda getting caught at Yotsuba.

    I still think the dumbest thing Light ever did was to kill Raye Penber. Killing him instantly brought Ls attention to the people he was observing, which was a very small circle of people that included Light himself. He did splendid work making Penber think that Light was innocent (during that bus incident), if he had left him alive, there would be a living FBI agent willing to testify "Nah, Light's not Kira". What better proof of innocence could you get? Instead he did the exact opposite and, surprise surprise, L immediately drew all his attention to Light. It was a massive blunder and most definitely the beginning of Light's downfall.

      Light didn’t know that Raye was going to stop investigating him or how long the investigation was going to last so he had to get rid of him for him to have free movement. He did at least wait until he thought it would less suspicious if he died and he killed all of the agents sent to Japan at the same time, so it stands to reason that it would be untraceable back to him, but L noticed an oversight that Light didn’t just like Light noticed Naomi when L forgot about her.

      Agreed it was bit if a stupid moment and I feel is a big plot hole.
      I can accept the conclusion above that the person at the desk probably just thought that she gave the information anyway, but once there was an investigation into her disappearance (remember there was a theory from the investigation team suspected she figured something out about Kira) it should have been easy for investigation team to find out that she tried to reach them.
      All they had to do was ask the guy at the desk if this lady tried to contact them. From there there guy would recollect that Light was there at the time too or they would figure it out when reviewing security tapes (remember it's a police precinct, it would be highly unusual for there not to be security cameras).
      What's more they specifically sent a team member back to the precinct in case someone came with information about Kira comes along but a few seconds too late. It was pretty stupid for him not to ask the front desk if anyone has come along with information about Kira while they were gone. Especially that is the reason he was sent back there in the first place.

      @@clueanalysis2596I agree with you. Personally, I thought the ending of Death Note was definitely pretty disappointing and to this day, I still question how the hell the detective managed to even find that notebook just sitting there wide open in a box and just happened to swap it for a fake Death Note. That decision still baffles me to this day. Mikami really wasn’t that bright of a character.
      Death Note isn’t a bad show but I’m glad everyone agrees that the second half of this show is mediocre. That’s one thing I stand firm thinking is that after 25 episodes, this show started to go downhill and wasn’t great after they killed L. The show still wasn’t perfect in the first half but the first half was really good compared to the second one.
      I think the only problem with Light killing his teammates in the police force would have been that Near would’ve been able to suspect a very suspicious time that all of them just died and it would’ve been a wrench in keeping Light’s identity as Kira a secret. That wouldn’t have been as smart of a plan as you’d think. It would be suspicious that all of them just happen to die after L’s death and it would warrant some serious red flags.
      I think Light would’ve had to think of a really smart way to kill them so it wouldn’t have been suspicious. Instead of a heart attack, there would need to be a different realistic kind of way to kill them like by murder from another human being or by committing suicide or maybe getting torn to shreds by a machine by getting stuck in it or getting eaten by sharks.
      Light would have to think of ways they could die that aren’t typical in his notebook. That could make it less suspicious and make sense as a plan. Personally, I always thought it was questionable how throughout the show there weren’t really many ways people were shown being killed besides just simply having a heart attack. You think with so many ways a person could die that Light would think of a plan to make himself less suspicious from that angle that he would come up with creative ways to kill people but there’s only a few times throughout the show he comes up with any alternate ways to kill people.
      Someone gets hung in one episode and then I think Takada died from being burnt to death. That’s cool and all but those are like the only two times I saw someone get killed not because of a heart attack. Yeah, Light’s father died but that wasn’t because of being written in the Death Note so that doesn’t count.
      As for Kira followers being under Lights command, I think the only way that could work is if they found every way possible to make Light seem innocent meanwhile pretending to do an investigation on him and instead only really keeping surveillance on Near and Mello. They would have to pretend to act like they’re a little suspicious of Light to appease Near and get him off their case and they would have to also come up with a smart, methodical way to actually prove Light is innocent. Meanwhile during a bit of free time, they can spend that time with the trust they’ve gained from Near and Mello to expose their identities and then tell Kira their names and then that would be a done deal or if Near is still too stubborn about it, Light could even use Misa as a bit of extra artillery power and just expose their names that way while everyone is talking to Near and that would be done.
      You could argue that even with all the trust gained from the extreme Kira worshippers to Near and Mello that they still wouldn’t budge giving their real names so that’s why I think that’s when Misa Amane should come into play after trust is built up between everyone and Near and Mello. Also about those Kira worshippers, I think that those people should also be people who Light finds out about who share the same ideologies as Kira so that way Light knows that he can trust them.
      They also have to be people who have skills enough being detectives so that way it’s also not suspicious of whether or not they were qualified for the job or not because it becomes more suspicious when someone is elected a position somewhere and they haven’t actually met any requirements for that spot on the team. It’s suspicious when friends are elected roles in power and it qualifies over people with actual experience and meeting requirements and finishing things like college to actually be apart of the team. With that all said while it would be a lot to think about and a lot to calculate and piece altogether, with enough mental strength and IQ, Light would be able to figure out a plan to make his friends do a ton of work to make it to roles serving him while covering all contingencies to prevent being looked at under any suspicion.
      That’s how I think your idea of Light killing off his original police teammates would work. It takes a lot of thinking and a lot of brainpower to storm together but with enough at your disposal, any level of power is achievable. He would just still have to cover up his tracks somehow covering all contingencies. That’s all.

    • @clueanalysis2596
      @clueanalysis2596  8 месяцев назад +2

      @@lordartoriuscollbrande7434 The ending itself was actually my favorite part of the second half of the series, it was the build up to the final two episodes that was poorly paced and poorly written in my opinion. I would've done a lot of things differently with the characters.
      In my opinion the first 25 episodes are perfect in my opinion. I would've changed some stuff with Misa and make her less annoying but still the show up to this point was a 10/10 for me. The second half was still fairly decent but when coming off of something so strongly good, it feels low quality in comparison, but I'd still rank the second half as a 7/10 in my opinion and the overall series would be a 9/10 in my opinion.
      well, I'm not saying to kill them all at the same time or anything like that, but it is possible. Something like Light writing one police officers name down who reveals all the Taskforce members names and faces publicly, then Kira can kill them like this and there would be no way to link Light to Kira or their deaths would be the easiest way of going about I think. Also, to be fair, L dying at all is already suspicious, so getting rid of the Taskforce would actually help to make there be less ways of narrowing down who Kira is as Light was never on paper a member of the Taskforce. If Light had them all killed as I said and then became a police officer and formed his own Taskforce of members that agreed with Kira, it would be far less likely for Near to narrow down suspects since there's no way to link Light to the Taskforce that was with L before he died.
      Light only used alternate methods of death when he wanted to be undetected, basically killing someone without it being connected to being Kira such as the bus jacking scene. That's why Light uses the default method of death, heart attack, so people can correlate his work and so when he decides to kill someone with other methods, it's not linked to Kira.
      If Light can get a Taskforce of Kira followers, then they can act like how the original Taskforce did with Near, but when it comes time for the final confrontation Light had with Near, he could just have them walk in a shoot Near and the SPK. Basically, Light could have Mikami be a Taskforce member if he wanted it, but obviously Light should pick people like Mikami that aren't publicly known to agree with Kira. I wouldn't necessarily say they need to meet extremely specific requirements. I mean the original Taskforce wasn't the most qualified for it and there are plenty of people in society that aren't qualified or the best for their jobs.

When Light’s father gets ahold of the notebook, then L looks at it and lets Light look at it when they’re in the helicopter, Light screams in horror as the memories of the note come flooding back, and THEN just a few moments later, Light writes Higuchi’s name on a piece of the note & he just dies of a heart attack right then and there and L doesn’t find it weird in the slightest. L definitely should have been able to put 2 and 2 together. He literally died of a heart attack as SOON as Light touched the damn death note, following his oddly terrified reaction to it. Personally, I don't think killing Lind was a "stupid" move on Light's part necessarily. It was unnecessary, yes, and only happened because of Light's cockiness but think about it. Light had no way of knowing that there existed a super detective called L. His father was head of the police force, he would always be two steps ahead of them. Therefore he made the irrational decision.

      It fit with Light's motive, he wanted everyone to know Kira existed and was passing judgement. He probably knew it was a riskier approach, but if he didn't make it known he was killing bad people (and anyone who gets in his way) then other people wouldn't have feared being punished by Kira.

It's also suspicious that somehow L came out and revealed his own face even though he had never done it before.

    Can we also talk about Light's bus plan? The whole thing just doesn't make much sense when you think about it. So Light's plan is to learn Raye's identity by forcing him to expose himself through an orchestrated bus hijacking. So firstly, there is no guarantee that Raye would want to, or even be able to reveal his identity to Light. He really shouldn't have anyway but whatever, we k ow Raye trusts Light. Light doesn't know this though so he's essentially just taking a wild guess but he wouldn't really lose anything if he was wrong. The plan really goes off the rails when we take into account the fact by protocol, Raye should have explained to his superiors that his identity was compromised, they would then have him replaced and the entire point of Light's whole plan would be ruined. There was absolutely no way Light would have been able to predict that Raye is going to be a complete moron and completely disobey the rules he should be professionally obliged to follow, especially seeing as he's a government agent. The entire scenario would logically only have 1% chance of turning out the way it did and I just find it silly that Light was acting like it's a perfectly foolproof plan. Hell, it has a higher chance of revealing to L that Kira can kill without heart attacks and therefore would increase Light's suspicion by a lot since it was his agent involved. I feel like Light should have been able to come up with a better plan in hindsight.

    • @clueanalysis2596
      @clueanalysis2596  2 года назад +50

      I agree, the method of which Light went about getting Raye's name was clever but also relied on some chance. I'm guessing Raye wouldn't want to reveal to his superiors that he showed his name to someone because that would get him in trouble and that's what Light was counting on. Still, in this situation there was a better way of revealing the name of the FBI agent through the hijacking. What Light should've done is wait for the FBI agents to start investigating other people connected to the police, then Light should keep an eye on the other police members and people connected to them and wait and see when an FBI agent starts following someone connected to the police that Light is also keeping an eye on. Once Light sees another person connected to the police being followed by someone, Light can conclude that it's another FBI agent. Only then should Light start testing the death notes abilities. He can keep track of where the person being followed usually goes and set up something similar to the bus jacking. Lets say Light wants it to happen in a grocery store that the person being followed usually goes to. Light follows the FBI agent and the person connected to the police to the grocery store, previously writing in the death note to have a criminal come into the store and take everyone hostage in exchange for money. The criminal does this, taking everyone hostage which would include Light, the FBI agent, and the person connected to the police. One by one the criminal goes around to each person asking them for any items on them which would include their wallets. As the criminal goes to each person they look through all their belongings until they find identification. They proceed to read out loud the full name of the person they just took the belongings from. Everyone would hear the names including Light so he would know the name of the FBI member and just in case Light wouldn't know specifically how to spell the FBI agents name Light could've also previously written that once the criminal goes through everyone, gathering all their belongings, they run out escaping without being followed to an abandoned building on 5th Avenue (Something like that) and commit suicide. This way only Light would know where the criminal went and could go check for the name he's looking for. Light would then have the FBI agents name, multiple people could be suspects now because they all heard the FBI agents name, and even if they were to suspect one specific person it would be the person the FBI agent was following, not Light.

    Fun fact: since the letter L in Lind's name is an abbreviation, the person using the death note has to write the victim's name as it is in their official signature. With that said, Light would not be able to kill people from Thailand or Arab countries, for example, because of their alphabet

    • @clueanalysis2596

    • @rosestar1324
      @rosestar1324 Год назад +3

      Not really a fact. It seems for the death note to work, you just need an acceptable name for the person. It isn't clear if it's just a legal name or a birth name. The best answer would be to look at scenes where people with the eyes look at the names. I can't read Japanese but I know Misa was able to see the Japanese characters for Light's name with her eyes. So at the very least, the eyes allow you to see a first and last name and that is enough to put in the death note. If you wanted to kill a person from Thailand or another country, you can write the name with thier native characters. In the anime, we see names written in English and Japanese characters

    • @alexyuri_94
      @alexyuri_94 Год назад +1

      @@rosestar1324 yes, that's what I said. The eyes show their names as it is in an official document of some sort, probably birth one. That's why we see light's name with kanji and Mello's name with latin alphabet. The note's user should at least write names while they see how it is written or know how it is written beforehand. That's also why light and naomi tell each other which kanji are used to write their names. That means that if light used a different kanji, even though it has the same spelling, he wouldn't be able to kill naomi

    I personally think Light is smarter than L, being able to think forward one step ahead, but it was his temper and megalomania which ultimately got the better of him so many times. So involved in the idea of the cat and mouse chase that he'd be led on because of it. Exploitable temper is exploitable, and L knew it from the start. All his strategy to catch Kira essentially revolved around baiting him until he stepped too far out of safety. Some of my thoughts about all the way up to L's death:
    -Some say killing Lind L Taylor was not a mistake, but regardless of why did he do it, at the end of the day he got played out and in front of the world too. His megalomania got the best of him
    -Letting L know that he had access to police information is what led directly to FBI agents investigating, and all under the pretext that the japanese police would somehow investigate and find L's name for him. True, it does let Kira get closer to L, but it works vice versa. That was a bad move giving away his whereabouts
    -The bus episode and what followed was one big gamble. Had Raye Penbar ever mentioned to his superiors that his identity had been compromised when and how, it would've been game over the moment all the agents were killed, regardless of anything else
    -Following Raye Penbar into the metro for such a long time, would've always looked suspicious. And if L knew Kira was in the train and Raye Penbar left an envelope in it, they should've investigated the station he stepped on the train and would've found out about the guy that died and probably Light's presence in the area too
    -Had he only left the FBI agents alone, there's no way they would've gotten absolutely anything near him. He only did it because they were Kira's enemies so they had to be punished and to "send a message" to L, but in this move he ironically let his ego get in the way of his mission to become the god of the new world
    -Telling Naomi that he was Kira could've backfired horribly, and it's the same attitude that got him killed by the end
    -When Light said "Kira wouldn't fall for it" when talking about the message about 1500 agents to Japan, during the episode about the cameras, that's the exact moment when L knew he had the guy, because that's exactly what Kira would've said if he knew L was watching, given Kira's psychological profile
    -Why the magazines of models? Just playing videogames would've done the trick, especially if he didn't suck at them. Too much paranoia?
    -Killing an embezzler and a purse snatcher while he should have no idea about it was a brilliant alibi, but getting out of his own modus operandi at the very least raises the relevant questions. Doing absolutely nothing would've been better than that. He only did it to cheat L in his face
    -L revealing himself to Light was a brilliant move, but despite Light knowing what L's strategy would be with making him reveal things only Kira would've known, he didn't conclude there could be anything other than the 3 notes that Light without Kira could have no way of knowing about. Gramatically reordering the notes despite the matching printing numbers shows a sign of bias that should've been a giveaway there and then. Rather than, what, 15% chance of him being Kira? that was an instant 70% at least
    -Misa was the snowballing disaster that almost made Light lose completely, but making her send that last tape where the second Kira agreed with the police not to meet Kira, after all they had done to get his attention, was one gigantic blunder. Not only giving more grounds for getting hair and fingerprints out of more tapes, but also letting L know they were working together and that his days were few if he did not strike, fast. The best he could've done is at least agree on a story of how they had met and then go into silence, which could've saved L's suspicions later on
    -When L as Hyuga said that he was a fan of Misa and liked one of her performances, naming it directly, that should've let Light realise that L knew Misa was the second Kira. Does L really look like the kind of guy who would follow fashion?
    -And on that note, what could Misa have done? Kill L? There's only one reason anyone was ever gonna be getting his real name. Whichever the outcome one would've been cornered in knowing that the moment he kicked the bucket, with the evidence against Misa and Light being implicated, there was no way they'd be getting out of it, at least not without murdering Watari and the rest of the task force in the same pen sweep
    -Come to think of it, did Light ever actually laugh in the whole arc when he's no longer Kira? Only Kira ever laughs. Goes to show that he was an almost completely different person without the Death Note. That laugh was more sus that probably anything else
    -When Light was no longer Kira, I think just asking him if he'd ever heard the name Raye Penbar would've cleared up everything for L. Instantly linking him to the bus episode and to the agent's death
    -When getting back the Death Note, he goes from screaming hysterically to rationally checking the names in the Death Note, and then stupidly asks how they could scientifically analyse the notebook. L's reaction at that point was very well done about how he realised what had happened,
    -All L really needed to do was to ask Rem about ownership of the death note, perhaps give it to someone else and then make them forfeit it. Even better, tell Light himself to do it. Could've been game over
    -The evidence against Misa was prooo...bably more than good enough for not letting her go her merry way. Regardless of whether she was the second Kira or not, she sent the tapes and some people died in the involving scenes
    -L says probably one of the most brilliant lines in anime history. All the series up to that point revolved around the cat and mouse chase, but all up to that point had also shown that Kira/Light cared about it more than L did. L considered Light a friend even if he was Kira, and when he momentarily stepped out of the cat and mouse game by asking Light if he ever told the truth, Light without Kira would've concluded L still thought he was Kira, and would've bitched about it. Light's response about it was the correct one, but at the same time very damning precisely because of it
    -Why did nobody bother to ask themselves where did Rem's own death note go?
    I do remember reading about one case when a serial murderer was investigated by detectives and a cat and mouse rat chase ensued, with him slipping out of their reach every single time. Until one time, he purposefully left identifying info, believing the detective wouldn't arrest him because of "honouring the chase" or something along those lines. Queue later, the police got his ass. Oftentimes, you are just your worst enemy.

      @@TheMarkoSeke Exactly. The only times Light managed to outsmart L is when he used information that L simply could not have known.
      His death is the prime example of this. Light didn't trick L to kill him. He tricked Rem. He used the information that Rem loves Misa to create a scenario where Rem wants to kill L. L could not have found this out in a million years

    For me, one of the dumbest things is when L and Light are in the helicopter and they finally get the death note, and L just let light hold the notebook with the suspicios to be kira all the time

    The dumbest moment would be Near swapping the 'Deathnote', if Mikami didn't mess up all of them would've been dead

    The dumbest thing is that Lind L. Taylor is an actual full name. Like my man's parents actually thought "L." was a good legal name

      The J. in Michael J. Fox doesn't stand for anything either, and he's a real person.

    I like how the list is:
    -light’s dumbest move
    -misa’s avrege move
    -mikami acting on his own
