Nah both of them are geniuses the part where they show their thoughts to the audience may seem to be around 35 seconds but since he's got such a high IQ all of those thoughts are most probably happening within 2-3 seconds
You forgot that Light is amateur in doing evil things where as L is expert in finding criminals. It's easy to find criminals than to be a criminal. That's the reason Light got found out. Being amateur doesn't mean he is not smart. The best scene is actually the "Kira's Laugh" after L finds out that Kira is in Kanto. Kira used to make prisoners draw messages. Why did he do that if he knew that was looking into all that stuff, that too even after everyone got to know hat Kira is in Kanto ? Just because he wanted L to know that "YOU CAN NEVER DEFEAT ME". That's called arrogance. Arrogance is the reason Light lost.
@@kirakakashi9445 It's true, but don't forget that Light had a very big advantage : The Death Note. He could continue to use it without killing the fake "L", but like you said he lost because of his arrogance. Personally I don't like Light, I'm with L
@@lechatmasque2425 but Light is smarter than L, this is a fact in whole anime, L had his moments, but Light was always a step ahead, specially when Light lost his memory, and ivan so, he was able to find Higuchi before L does, and he was able to delay Otisuba victims making a negotiation with Demigawa, forcing L to admit that he is more capable. And L was already prepared to let victims to be kill to solve his case, which proved to us that he is not different than Light. Only his hypocrisy.
@@AngeloFalconrL is smarter remember it is easy to be criminal rather than being detective.and Kira case is hardest no matter what happens L can never convict light until he finds evidence same is not case with light he can always use people like misa Takada and mikami touro.it is planning that Kira does while L deduces what Kira does it is easy to set questions but is hard to solve them that is the difference between Kira and L respectively so definitely the job of L will be slow as he gets every piece of puzzle calculated and existence of notebook for one and unknown to other changes everything how you need to see L Vs KIRA.people just consider their roles same like both are doing actually fixed tasks their roles are completely different while L maybe known as world's best detective even after having control over ICPO he doesn't or can't buy power of the notebook while light being the only person in the whole world knowing about notebook makes him the owner of the unseen world and knowledge of power over the world light is connected to the powers of shinigami while L has no connection to unseen world let alone yielding the knowledge of supernatural weapon he is completely puzzled which is a sign of complete futility afterall L while thinking about something which is something beyond human nature to comprehend itself is the biggest obstacle for him light in his shoe can't survive for month let alone putting death note user to misery something L did neither light or near can do Throughout the series L has created breakthroughs by himself it is based on pure intelligence and complete flawless tricks while Light has been manipulator that is added to him by his beauty pride and intelligent conversation skills not that he like ryuga (Lawliet) While L managed to find kira in the whole world he also managed to read his every move possibly and flawlessly except for his hinderance being power of notebook which slides through aimlessly and that is completely understandable because nobody in society or globally has a scratch about the existence of the notebook it is like to say i shall bring something which completely Which is neither imaginary or real into life and expect world to retilate against me no world shall crumble down in fear and agony because of it most of the people will actually die of heart attack we know how much power light has of death note over people and how much damage he can cause it is like to say people are scared of darkness because of its infinite possibility while light makes world finite showing the boundary shape and size of object darkness like death is absolutely overwhelming that people can't comprehend that is the place kira takes place in the world since he is infinite for the world because his powers much more anonymous like his face itself makes him infinite it is like to say people consider god infinite that is because he is behind curtains never perceived by anything world considers him the being of complete different nature and much more they try to comprehend him they fall in arguement never ever he is understood because he being understood shall make him finite since that is destined to give him a design while most powerful thing about the power is the most powerful man is who can't be comprehended he is anonymous and like darkness can bring unpredictable that is why people are scared of those beings whose powers are unpredictable since then people fall into the thought that they have their eyes over everywhere and can give PTSD to whole world so to tackle that pressure and solving case with it shows that how great L is because he lives in constant stage of risking his life at every step while for light world is finite darkness is not over everything and what is unpredictable for the world is predictable to him.he is confident because he has power like none else even admitting himself to ryuk that he wants to take world by storm and reason for him to go one step further and being arrogant definitely has to be because of his power possessed by him and noneelse.we know how much special Light feels even considering himself entitled to degree where is calls himself chosen one and asking ryuk why was he chosen for this for his delima ryuk abrupts by saying that your delusion is nothing more than concoted dream which he breaks like fantasy and more so wasn't ryuk who told him that you think you were chosen because you are smart or something and humilates his high estimation in narrow spawn of words by dialogue it just happen to fall around and you picking it up thats all so you see lights self proclaimation of being god like figure vibe going.completly L is far superior to light and he acknowledges it even by himself after wards and it is in the movie as well.
I think L deduced that in the manga, when he asked about the dissapearing memories. It's a shame they didn't include that and the author did not try to exploit that. Misa and Rem were such huge plot armours lol
@@benjosefcerillo2067 at that moment L is considered already going too far in his methods for suspecting Misa and Light, and if L adding that reason to cornered Light even more, Light will having so much advantage having everyone to come to his side because L will look so stubborn. At this point L already using an unusual experiment on Misa and got nothing, his method is considered fail so he can't use this 'disappearing memories' reason (english isn't my first language so sorry)
I still remember how they made a new Death Note book that ended with Trump buying the Death Note and then never using it. (Mostly because if he did he'd die mind you.)
While both L and Light are geniuses, I genuinely think Light only outmaneuvered L for as long as he did because of the supernatural elements of the Death Note. There were so many elements that L couldn't have possibly known or suspected, but he STILL deduced a lot of the Death Note's rules during the investigation.
I don't necessarily agree that because something supernatural exists, that it makes it an unfair advantage for the person using it. Not to say that it wouldn't be an advantage in some way but understanding the rules and limitations of said supernatural ability is just as important as the ability itself. In this sense it honestly evens the playing field seeing how much resources people like L and Near had backing them up to track down Kira. That being said I'm aware that the death note itself still has some advantage over those things in certain circumstances. Purpose is what allows one thing to be more useful than another. Knowing the intentions of what is being done we know what is also needed to accomplish said thing. In certain situations L's side had the advantage over Kira.
@@clueanalysis2596 I wouldn’t say that I agree with you on that. With the Shinigami Eyes, Light could have gotten rid of L right away. If he had decided to use those for himself, it would’ve been over immediately. And the Death Note itself allowed Light to kill anyone from anywhere in the world with any method. Without any evidence left behind. It’s literally the biggest advantage in the entire world. The fact that L even got so close to catching Light despite Light having a complete knowledge of the Death Note’s rules and the investigation is honestly absurd. L’s gut is astoundingly accurate
@@Doomzdeh But he didn't decide to get the eyes, only after the possibility that a second Kira existed who could kill with only a face came into play did the eyes start to matter, and at that point L was aware of it. It was because L introduced himself to Light as his prime suspect that prevented Light from killing him, shinigami eyes wouldn't have changed that, but it would've allowed Light to kill him later on, but again he didn't take them. It allowed him to do that, as long as he had their names and faces. Without those it would be impossible to use on that person, such as L who's name was completely gone from any recorded meaning the death note itself was in terms of killing L. The rules of anything is what determines the possibilities of the events that take place. It's because the death note has such specific rules and requirements that it allowed L to find patterns. L's gut feeling was only part of it, it was really the patterns of the death note and how it was used that allowed L to narrow down his suspects.
@@clueanalysis2596 Light had the rules of the death note explained to him by Ryuk and he figured out other gimmicks by experimenting… L had to deduce the rules and also was very close to figuring out there were fake rules in the third Kira’s notebook. So i don’t agree with downplaying Light’s massive supernatural advantage. (and by the way, without Rem, L would have won). Although i will say that without Misa there would have probably been a stalemate situation.
To be honest, watching Light struggle with whether or not he should pick up the notebook and return to his old self would've been a much more interesting storyline than what we ended up getting in the end.
"Bless you Kira" *music starts playing* 'If I answer with thank you, I might as well be admitting I'm Kira. But if I act surprised then L might think I'm trying too hard to conceal my identity as Kira. In that case, I should play this off as a joke, so that L thinks I've interpreted this as a joke. That should minimise the suspicion that L has for me being Kira.'
@@samratff9083 L : ummm light could I ask you something Why do you always take around 5-10 mins of the episode to reply every question Light - *thinks for five minutes*
its smart if you can actually ignore the first episodes, the possibility that someone would think that another person other than the guards of the prisons were the responsible for the ""murders"" and not that it was a really strange thing or that a conspiracy was made to kill those roomates, and that L would have controll of everything and that would not have people fighting to understand such a major thing like hundreds of inmates dying of a lot of causes(like for example whe kira kills all the FBI agents the USA would obviously send a army of men searching for kira the situation would be made worse not better by killing them in real life), and that he would manage to get a death sentenced inmate to broadcast only in tokyo because they think kira lives there is the more unlikely and inocent minded part of the series, besides that it gets better and better its inocent to think the series is all mighty but after those parts its the perfect show, i say inocent because they are not necesseraly bad but just "inocent" you need some ignorance to make the series work.
Light's entire memory forgetting plan was beyond brilliant writing L really got light when he did the broadcast and it had such an effect because light didn't know of the existence of L or who he was. But when L was suspicious of light, and light pulled basically the smartest thing I've ever seen. No doubt about it
It was all great writing and the follow up to getting Rem killed were great Unfortunately it’s also the thing that got him killed; if task force and SPK never found the death notes, they’d never have been able to prove Light is Kira
I honestly never understood the forgetting plan, if light still remembered everything and had a strong will, ¿what would have been the difference?. Its like being caught kiling someone , getting a bump in the head and getting amnesia and expecting the police to say to you "understandable have a nice day".
I remember watching Death Note as a Teenager and being mindblown when the TV Broadcast scene happened, it really set the tone on how smart the entire series was, years later Death Note still holds up, crazy for an anime that in a few years will be 20 years old
With the state of anime today I doubt we will see anything like this anytime soon. Death Note was a passion project but anime nowadays are more about pumping content. Most finish after 12 eps and have a ridiculously simple story. That’s what happens when something becomes popular. Passion is stifled. That’s why Death Note holds up today and will do so for a couple more years at least. The amount of effort placed on this story is incomparable to modern anime.
@@Silvamoon About 20 percent of anime today have this much passion, even with a simple story. Obviously more then that do have passion but not to this extent.
It always bugged me though, why did L mention that Kira was in Kanto. He could have given him a false sense of security if he hadn't mention that part.

One of the smartest moments was when light yagami tricked ray penber to reveal his identity and also killed naomi by tricking her also to reveal her identity. Also we all can't forget the line he said after writing Naomi's name in the death note "I am Kira". Edit : TYSM FOR THE LIKES!!
L figuring out that Kira is not only in Japan but what his first victim was and the fact that he hasn’t been killing long AND proving that he exists and isn’t fake will always be my favorite moment in the show. He also figures out that he can’t kill him without a face, I’m sad L died because I’m not a big fan of N
N was extremely necessary to the plot if you think about it. i think i had to have been like, 11 years old when i first watched death note and quickly wrote him off as a deus ex machina, but watching the show again you realize it makes so much sense that he's there. you gotta remember that there was around 5 years between L's death and N's debut. He had to have been like 13 or 12 at the time, and growing up in a community of super detectives he probably was looking at the case for some time. that, or like other members of the kira task force, they simply were annoyed by the lack of process because remember, in maybe the first 2 or so years of the show L had already done a loooot of the heavy lifting. not to say who's smarter and what not, but L would've most likely cracked the case sometime in that 5 year timespan if he hypothetically stayed alive, i mean hell it even is heavily implied that he knew by intuition alone. but it took a similar mind, or similar minds, N and M, to finally put light in his place. wellll, not exactly. you also need to remember that towards the endgame, the kira task force was not shy in suspecting light. the SPK noticed a lot of fallacies in the task force, notably, the second L's actions that they had to rightfully call them out. i think the task force was more adamant in light being captured at this time because they probably knew, like L that deep down he *had* to have been kira. but when you have the deadliest supernatural murder weapon on your hands, it's kinda hard to string things up without being a little peculiar in thought. like for example, if the world was well past aware of death notes, shinigamis, basically if a proto-light waltzed around for sometime beforehand, he would've been caught pretty quickly. but obviously, in the mind of rational human beings, you just can't think of shinigamis until you see one in front of your very own eyes. TL;DR: the members of the kira task force besides light were tired of this case not being solved, so the tension was already there, and the SPK, N and M were the straw that broke the camel's back another side note before i end my thought, this all really just goes back to the same general statement about light and how his pride and ego was his downfall. because i believe if that kanto broadcast never happened, he simply wouldn't have been caught or sniffed out that early.
@@llawliet5496 weird, you and that dayday are idotic. You didn't watch death note . Near knew about mikami having death note which remained unexplained. And that worked as the most crucial information for near to find kira. Secondly, melo sacrificed his life to destroy light's plan. And then mikami whom near knew about had gake death note which was only possible because of nears plot armour. And L was indeed smarter but Light was very close to his smartness. Light underestimated the simple thoughts of ppl in real life. And ppl think ot was a great feat of L that he figured out that it was supernatural. But that is not the case. When L saw the suicide of criminals meaning when light started his experiment. The number of suicide and their abnormal activities was impossible without direct contact But after gathering info about the guards on duty it wasn't the case, then L thought of a bait to try to figure out the type of crime he was dealing with But light at that time thought if someone has heart attack snd dies out of nowhere, thete wouldn't be any way of anyone to figure him out.but when L experimented it turned out to be supernatural. L didn't expect it , it just happened randomly. And L even said so that he would have never thought so if his clone didn't doe out of nowhere.

What would have made that scene 20 times more awkward would have been if the driver’s licence was fake too- he would have just revealed that he’s kira 💀
I think that Light telling Misa to start killing criminals again is a very smart and underrated move. He put Rem into pressure and the results were that L, Watari and Rem all died. And all Light did was telling Misa to start killing criminals. Yeah he also had to ask if they were gonna be able to convict Kira when caught, to scare Rem when she hears that Kira would be executed.
When I first watched, I thought it was really dumb, because Light would rather keep Misa beside him to use Misa's Shinigami Eyes to kill L. However, then I realized that with this plan, he could kill Rem as well.
Light’s 3-way trade between himself, Ryuk and Rem was never fully explained and is layered. The reason was to switch which Shinigami owned each notebook. Light wanted Misa to make the eye deal both for his advantage and to shorten her life so he made sure to give her the notebook Ryuk owned. Light also knew he was being recorded for a time. He needed to make sure that after the investigators obtained the notebook, they wouldn’t be able to see Ryuk or else they would be able to go through the footage and see Ryuk with Light.
The only explanation I'd ever seen before was that it was so Rem would be attached to Light and in the war room after everything played out. Light foresaw that L would continue to suspect Misa (she left forensic evidence) and/or be suspicious of the fake rules, so having Rem with him was insurance in case Misa wasn't able to act quickly enough. Rem even acknowledges that Light orchestrated everything so she'd have no choice but to kill him, but doesn't allude back to the book-swapping specifically, so I didn't understand why that mattered until I looked it up. But this also makes sense, and adds a lot more depth to it that I never picked up on 👍
@@AC-my2bg Light needed Rem to be attached to Higuchi since he needed events to play out a certain way. Ryuk's too much of a wild card, so he had to be benched for the time being.
I was always most impreased by the fact that very quickly L was able to take the entire planet and narrow down his search for a serial killer to only a handful of people.
It helps to look at the very first case if you know it. I would also imagine the high number of japanese criminals dying (lets be honest, he probably doesnt have a lot of info on american criminals without serious digging) would indicate something. Impressive method, but deduction wise actually somewhat possible.
As cool as it was when Light used Penbar, it was easily his dumbest moment to even make the attempt. He was already reported as innocent, he could have just carried on without being monitored while they ran around chasing other suspects. He only killed the FBI agents out of pride and it led to putting the focus back on him.
First of all, Light didnt know yet that the fbi shadower already cleared Light. And 2nd of all from what I remember he states that he wants 2 kill them fbi agents asap bc if he wait 2 long one of them will see him slip up and the suspect list may be narrowed down.
But what if some other fbi agent would've investigated him again on L's orders ,so it was necessary for light to kill all those fbi agents, because of which the fbi stayed out of this buisness which did benefit light somehow. Some way or the other anyone member of the fbi could've known about light being Kira, or would've got suspicious about him as they are not normal agents they are fbi , every fbi agent isn't like ray penber and plus L always had a suspicion on a person who was linked with the task force and that person being a student and he always had an eye on some smart person like light of being kira, which he admitted when l and light were fighting, so killing fbi agents was actually a necessary move despite confirming little amount of suspicion of light being kira.
O still don’t understand why Rem didn’t kill Light there. Like, sure, he had to kill L to protect Misa and he knew he’d die, but why didn’t he take Light with him out of spite?
I don't think so. In fact it lead to his downfall. His pride and inability to lose made him arrogant. With the shinigami eyes Light Yagami could write the name of L, Near, Mello, and anyone who came against him. The Death Note + his intelligence + the eyes would of guarantee victory the moment Ryuk offered them. Sure he wouldn't live long, but he wouldn't have to rely on misa who is more of a liability and a annoyance than a support to his goals of being God. Ryuk can see the time and date of when light will die (Light doesn't know when he will die and he never stops to consider how long he will live. He assumes he will live for a long time, but at any point in the show he could die from a criminal or accident as the death note never provides any extension to his life like it does Ryuk or protection to his life) [Ryuk not sharing L's name or sharing Lights time of death should be a indication that Ryuk knew Light would not live long and wanted to see how far he'd go] If light was destined to die where he dies then he did not live long The amount of time from when he found the death note to when he died is very short Had he had the eyes It would alter the timeline of events Cutting his life in half but changing his life span to a new destined time of death similar to Misa when she was saved when she was supposed to die. Light would of been God for the years he lived Unchallenged by anyone and also having misa as a support making him near impossible to defeat Light is destined to die He might as well went all in To secure his victoryv

L was autistic but was granted supreme intelligence, Light had dark triad traits, and was psychotic, sociopathic and machiavellian, which also granted him supreme intelligence.
Light was the most neurotypical neurotypical ever, L was autistic and a sociopath. Near was autistic, and Mello was a sociopath, because they're his two halves.
Yeahhh, Light getting Ryuk to write a fake rule in the Death Note pretty much was the play of the game in this show, pretty much directly resulting in L's death. Of course, L's TV broadcast (in particular, the part where he reveals that they're only live in Shinjuku) and _"I'm L"_ moments are definitely very classy. I also think that pickpocketing Misa that one time is an underrated move on his part. It was largely based on luck, being in the right place at the right time, but man, he really did make the most of that opportunity. It shows how quick-witted he is addition to all of his careful planning.
@@genox633 before light was taken under custody he had ryuk write a fake rule that upon the first time using the death note, you start a 13 day cycle where you have to continue writing down names or you die. if i remember right light was in custody for 50.
@@Simplystimulating because the voices fr match their personalities, and also in the show they have figures from other countries like the president of america and it wouldn’t make sense that he speaking fluent japanese 😭
People saying Naomi's death might be the smartest move, but for me her death was the most painful one she literally lost her husband and when she trusted a friend she got cheated and killed. For that's the saddest part of the whole series😥
You realise light would be in serious trouble because Naomi had already figured out that Heart attack is not the only way to kill ppl which took L around 20 episodes to find out and if she had come in contact with L and told that their direct and main suspect would be Light and series would end pretty early. Her death was imp for the plot.
I think it was also the moment that solidified Light being a self serving bastard. Killing FBI agents was icky enough considering that he was only supposed to kill murderers to "create a better world". We could argue that Light was just defending himself and removing a threat or that the agents knew it would be risky etc. But Naomi was a grieving widow and tried to help. Light not only killed her but did it with a fucking smile. It wasn't even a "sacrifice" for a better world.
I remember watching the "I am L" scene with my sister. My sister's face of confusion matched my own for 20 seconds before i realized that it wasn't just a stupid play, it was a brilliant move. Having to explain it to my sister was the hardest part, but luckily the show did it by itself.
The most genius moment for me was in the start where L broadcasts a localised tv news to narrow down to which particular locality Kira will be located.
L revealing himself to Light. If you look at it from Light's perspective he was cornered strategically, he both simultaneously got what he wanted and what he dreaded from playing this game. He wanted to get to L but lost the upper hand because once L revealed himself so publically with an insurance plan of a fake pop star's name he was both able to go on the defensive and offensive by countering his approach of trying to kill him when he had a suspicion of who it might be and preventing them from doing so from the dark when he lacked information leaving light unable to kill him and his wait to see if he can strike by getting close to him and questioning and monitoring his behaviors. From L's perspective, it was an extremely risky move, he was now publically making his face seen and exposing who he was to his top potential subject who can kill my means unknown to him even though he still had a decent grasp of its limits it was still i high risk and it was at potential of making the investigation run a suspect that may have nothing to do with kira at all. all things were a risk, to his survival and personal well-being, to the jeopardy of the case, and running the risk of following a dead lead. Extremely intelligent and risky move that was very well executed and truly became a game changer for the rest of their cat mouse chase. Also incredible intuition on a 5% lead and considering an investigation like this 5% is a rather realistic estimate of likelihood of suspicion.
@@SusuPilihan i think that with his evaluation of his suspicion of light initially was 5% being a realistic margin not as 95% but that 5% is a high margin in the scheme of the possibility of anyone else in Japan which has an extremely dense population. So while looking like a small number thinking about anyone else their suspicion level would be at a percentage lower than one but still a perfectly capable suspicion considering the manner of the murders being completely anonymous and leaving no evidence or knowledge of how they were killed. later on he doesn't use percentages because after the 15 day lockdown period it became a scenario of where he either was or he wasn't and L knew that in all likelihood it was light as kira but couldn't find a way into cornering a much needed confession to ever confirm that it was him and this is also probably why when he said if i die then arrest light because he is kira. this is all speculation ofc but this is how i took it when he refers to a percentage of suspicion he felt worthy enough to look into light as his primary suspect.
L is definitely smarter by a long shot. L tied for a perfect score on that exam with light, light studied excessively and L just showed up. Out of billions of people, Light managed to reveal himself as Kira like a dumb-ass almost immediately.
@@Sai_Zz he fell right into L’s trap during the broadcasting situation, when L revealed his body double ‘L Lind Taylor’. he let his anger get the best of him & murdered the criminal without a second thought and revealed that he was in Japan 💀🤞🏻
@@joshushushu Genuine answer: yes. Highlight is on *prestigious* school. As far as I known he's about 33 yrs old. I was referring to the part that he just showed up, but Light studied hard.
I know he's not as universally loved as L, but I'd give Near an honorable mention. While the last plan wasn't completely Light's fault, I think it was pretty clever that Near banked on the idea that Teru Mikami would slip up and it was also a misstep on Light's part to rely on someone else. Was it risky? Yes, but the plan coming to fruition is evidence that banking on that was worth it to catch Light. I also think Near's humility also showed here, as he admitted that on his own, he would not be able to surpass L. But he understood that and accepted it, and instead came together with Mello to end up finding out about Light.
I created a part 2 that included a moment from Near and Mello. I didn't pick the switching of the real notebook with a fake as it's not something overly creative or intelligent to think of in my opinion. It would be something most people would be capable of doing, the difficult part would be the process in which it was done which was apparently even easier as Mikami randomly revealed it's location anyways.
@@clueanalysis2596 Ah I see. Will definitely have to check out that vid, but otherwise, I think this you were pretty spot on in this vid as well. Keep up the good work!
@@diafam3662 I wouldn’t say “bailed out”. I could see your point if Near had no idea what to do and Mello acted on it and ended up saving him, but Near devised the plan himself. The only reason Mello acted is BECAUSE Near reached out to him to tell him the plan. Teru Mikami acting out was out of Light’s control but that’s on Light for relying on someone else. I can understand not liking Near cause he’s not as smart as Light/L, which to that I can agree. But he outplayed Light/Teru along with Mello and caught them in their tracks, so I also wouldn’t consider it a loss considering his mission was accomplished. Just my opinion tho
I remember the part where light gets his memory back I was 13 years old watching for the first time and I was SO SHOOK . Like that was literally the best plan of the show
Personally, I view the tv broadcast as the foundation for the entire series; that moment is where the rivalry between L and Kira began. Also, the moment when Ligh gave up ownership of the death note and manipulated both the shinigami Rem and his own self and even L into getting receiving back the book and having his memory returned, was just absolutely insane, I'm still mind blown. Underrated moments I found interesting was when L sent people to Lights room to to add wire taps and cams and the moment Light got home, he knew, regardless off their efforts to make it seems like everything was the same Light still know someone went into his room. Thinking back to the series and all that happened, L did everything in his power to prove that Light was Kira, there wasn't solid evidence but if i were on the team to investigate who's Kira, I'd suspect people on my team but Light in specific, it just seems too convenient that Kira has so much info and everything seems so coincidental.
lets not forget that Light managed to kill a shinigami that hated him and L at the same time which were his only two obstacles that in turn gave him freedom over misa's fate as well, incredible moment
This was my first anime I watched some 15 years ago now. There's been a ton of great shows since, but none has ever hooked me the way Death Note did. So many crazy moments
After all these years and forever ,no one can change the fact that death note is one of the biggest masterpiece in the whole anime world , even rewatching it still make me fascinated ✨
I honestly love L as a character, easily my favorite in the series, he's so confident about his deductions, and at times it seems like he's unintentionally being an a$$hole whenever he talks to light about him being Kira, this and him taking Misa's phone especially. He outwardly tells Light he's L basically going: "I'm right here, whatcha gonna do about it?" And then he also answers the phone to basically mock Light while knowing how obvious he is.
Kira’s dumbest move ever was trying to kill the guy in the tv. literally kira could have been anyone anywhere, but he narrowed himself into that town, with police connections. literally facepalmed the rest of the show after that
You clearly misunderstood the situation L said that the broadcast is internationally aired because at that time no one know where Kira is (but in fact, L already made a guess based on previous killing crime), so Light killed the guy on TV with assumption that the news internationally aired Kira isn't dumb but L is just smarter You should watch the series again if you forget, don't just comment because you watched this video
Dumbest? nowhere near that because as we know. L doesn't know how Kira conducts his (or her) killings before L begins investigating Kira. So as a risk and a test, L wanted to prove that Kira is a human and somehow kill his targets with ease, and when L challenged Kira to kill him without showing his face or name. He got him and that was just being outplayed, not exactly Kira's dumbest move.
2:04 If Light Yagami never killed FBI agents (and he did not even need to. He was being too insecure and overprotective), then he would never have got caught.
The first one "I want to tell you that I am L" is a *hell* of a power move on L's part. It's not just putting Light in an awkward spot it's saying 'I'm right here, what'cha gonna do about it?' The second one is... Less smart. It comes back to bite Light *hard* later on. The third one is showing that L is a genus by taking what little facts he had and putting them together. The forth one is L pulling another power move; proving that this 'Kira' was human, fallible... And catchable.. And that Kira's powers had *limits* to his power. The Fifth one... The memory gambit is a case of proving that Light is an mental match L and is able to use several odd and even minor rules of the Death Note to his advantage. What makes Light and L such an excellent rivalry is they are just as smart are each other but have vastly different advantages. L has experience, wealth and access to agencies and organizations. Light has the Death Note, is in a position most would but above suspicion, his father is the chief looking into the case and he's a far better social manipulator then L.
Light having the Death Note is a much bigger advantage than anything L has and L still held his own. Imagine if Misa wasn’t retarded and decided to reveal herself to the world to talk about the Shinigami or if she never existed. Light and L would have been in perpetual stalemate.
@@roronoalaw7772 Misa's smarter then most people realize; she pulls some good moves in the anime. It's just Light and L are *leagues* above her... And she has no emotional control... If she could just keep herself under control for five minutes Light would have L dead to rights.
The last one is on whole different level. Things that happened from this: Misa lost memory about deathnote ,her contract with Rem became cancelled by passing to Ruyk. Ruyk became owner of Rem notebook which light took and passed it to Ruyk removing his memory of using it. And passing back to Rem terminated the contract between Light and Ruyk for using notebook. From all this(pass between shinigami), Misa can't see the shinigami . I got just before but i think my head will spin and i will be back to zero if i think more about it.
I think it was one of the smartest moment how light killed off L. By forcing rem to do it unless misa dies, but when she does do it for misa rem dies along with L removing two problems
Imagine how much Light could have got away with if he had the knowledge and experience he had with Death Note at the end of the series, when L initiated his first broadcast with Lind L. Tailor.
@@clueanalysis2596nah I think Light would do much better given that knowledge. Even though he was cocky, his plan towards the end of the series was good - his loss was not believable the way it was written, Mikami had to mess up while Near’s team was literally doing impossible things like 100% copying a notebook by hand to the point a guy who looks at the notebook under a microscope couldn’t tell the difference…and they did this in a single night. Cmon…
Tbh L is a gigachad, he managed to deduce so much of the death note despite all of Light’s advantages, and even deduced a lot of the rules and got his hands on it. He came so close
I personally think that move by light to lose his memories of ever being Kira is the smartest move in the series. He basically predicted every single little detail that would happen right down to the letter before he ever touches the notebook again. That type of move is more impressive than anything L does in the series.
Light’s plan to erase and regain his memories was really smart; however, it was sort of a loss for him in the same way it was a loss for L to have to show his face to the person he mainly suspected of being Kira. Equally smart of both of them, but an exchange that had to be made for either of them to come closer to reaching their goal. L came close enough to exposing Light that he had to relinquish his power and surrender his goal of becoming “the God of the new world” and take a chance on not ever getting it back.
Bro check my list 1) L took misa's phone and take her in custody 2) L and lights Television encounter 3) potato chip 4) lights ownership forfeiting plan 5) near and light final encounter at the warehouse 6) light kills fbi agents 7) L and light trap ikuchi 8) Mello took deathnote 9) L saves matsuda from ikuchi 10) L ticks light in the coffee shop
Nice list, my top 10 would be this. 1.Light forfeiting ownership plan 2. L tricks Light TV Broadcast 3. L deduces when Kira was investigated by the FBI 4. Light kills the FBI members 5. I am L 6. Light deduces a connection between Yotsuba and Kira 7. Capturing Higuchi as Kira 8. L discovers the possibility of there being a second Kira 9. Mello's plan to get the death note 10. Near deduces Mikami to be X Kira

Everyone usually thinks that light was smarter than L because he was able to trick him and kill him but shinigami's were under control of light so in my opinion L was smarter

I don't agree with this anyone dumb can write a smart character with enough time these ppl were making these decisions on their feet writers can write a character smarter than them like Sherlock or Rick
Honestly, I think the TV broadcast was the one moment that outshone all else. Because it introduced a supernatural element to the whole investigation, when it is way out of reality and not only that, but in just one hit, it proved the existence of Kira, of some kind of superpower and narrowed down the area where he lives. There is no other move that has revealed as much or as relevant information.
As much as I love Death Note for the suspenseful cat-and-mouse story it tells, it REALLY says a lot when some of its smartest plays are made in the first ten episodes and then it meanders until the end when Light loses all of his likeability.
L's plan was actually without risks, like even if the plan failed only finding Kira would be difficult But Light's plan was really a gamble and the way it succeeded was awesome
The number 1 is the most smartest move in the series and also in all of the animes, it shows how Light can make such a great strategy with a short prep time, he literally made lots of moves ahead of L, he literally counters every plan that L has, that scene shows how a person can surpass his limits if they are in survival mode. Lots of respect to Light, I'm definitely convinced that he is smarter than L, since Near stated that he needs Mello to surpass L just to beat Light!
Smarter than L? That’s hilarious, L almost won a game he didn’t know the rules to. The Death Note is such a wildcard, ridiculous advantage that L doing as well as he did definitely proves he’s smarter than Light.
Imagine a reboot of Death Note and the first thing you hear is the calm voice of Light Yagami saying.......... "There's an invisible shadow upon my Light... and that shadow...... loves apples".
I definitely think the planning of Kira is the best, he confined himself and everything went perfectly according to plan, He would've won even if that one guy didn't put the notebook in the locker or whatever he did by not listening
3:22 This moment right here, is how Light completely exposed himself to L. Later in the episodes Light will slip up and he will say that he was aware that Ray Pember was surveilling him back then. Which is something that only Kira (or Light during the contact with Rey) would know about any of it. If Light is hiding his contact with Rey, the only logical conclusion to this dilemma, is that he is Kira after all. After hearing that, L took a solid pause, but decided to play along now fully knowing 100% that Light is Kira. I think this episode was there for audience of film, not for a plot. A sort of - "Did you noticed what just happened here, did you followed it?" But in the series it was never exposed. You can however read this on L's face during this moment and because of awkward pause during the moment. The dialog was in the hospital near Light's dad: L - not long ago Kira killed 12 FBI agents who'd come to Japan to assist us he continued L - they were instructed to follow people connected to the Japanese police. One of these agents Ray Pember exhibited unusual behavior before he died. Light - I understand.. and i was one of the people Ray Pember investigated before he died. It only makes sense I'd be a suspect. Nope, to be more precise, there is no one else you could suspect. You need to understand that at this moment of story Light already trying to pretend he was not in control of his actions to create some sort of alibi. pause L - i find Light's deductive powers quite impressive. He is always quick and to the point. Noticed how he used Light's instead of your and "he" instead of you? That was a hint to audience if they could catch it. Overall, it wasn't the Kira itself that L was hunting for. He solved the person behind killings really fast. Light was too perfect to be a simple kid and not a scariest maniac-homicidal that he really turned out. That was the easy part. But then case got more complicated with second and third Kira, and from this moment L realized that catching Kira won't be enough anymore. He played along with Light, to figure out how Light killed all these people remotely. That's all he cared. He even willing to sacrifice some innocent people's lives to this case. It was i think my first or second meeting with anime as a genre. There was 2 that cemented my perception of anime and it's quality. Ghost in the shell and Death Note.
I made a video explaining this actually haha, it's one of my more recent videos, but it doesn't reveal Light to be Kira actually and it's not a mistake.
What we had before "the smartest move in the anime": L is sure that Light is Kira and Misa is the second Kira but he does not know how they were able to kill people. What we have after: L is still sure of that but now he knows how they kill people.
This anime introduced me to anime community as this was the first series I watched on interest. After this I went on with Detective Conan and still watching it. There are a good number of mystery, thriller, action animes.
@@clueanalysis2596 While Death note is quite dark throughout the series, detective conan is different as it also has comedy genre. But in aspects of mystery, thrill, suspense and psychology, detective conan is far ahead of Death note. First 127 episode is investment, and then from episode 128 you start to get returns. The way L proves that Kira exists is the best moment

Yeah I agree
It’s like playing chess but not knowing the rules
I’m probably the only one here but I’m personally a big fan of N
TL;DR: the members of the kira task force besides light were tired of this case not being solved, so the tension was already there, and the SPK, N and M were the straw that broke the camel's back
another side note before i end my thought, this all really just goes back to the same general statement about light and how his pride and ego was his downfall. because i believe if that kanto broadcast never happened, he simply wouldn't have been caught or sniffed out that early.
@@llawliet5496 weird, you and that dayday are idotic. You didn't watch death note .

The number of suicide and their abnormal activities was impossible without direct contact
But after gathering info about the guards on duty it wasn't the case, then L thought of a bait to try to figure out the type of crime he was dealing with

Wow, i watched it in 2013 but still my favorite anime along with fma and snk!
I agree, the execution of the plan was smart, but the reasoning for doing so wasn't.
Didn't he do it to get close to L?
had to progress the plot somehow
Can we all appreciate how Kira managed to kill a Shinigami.
Oh yes right
Wait what
@@themenace2867 have you seen it all? Think about the tale of the shinigami who fell in love with a girl, if you’ve seen it
@@ForHeWhoLaughs yea
O still don’t understand why Rem didn’t kill Light there. Like, sure, he had to kill L to protect Misa and he knew he’d die, but why didn’t he take Light with him out of spite?
The ‘smartest’ move light ever made is when he refused to spend half his lifespan to be pretty much invincible.
I don't think so. In fact it lead to his downfall. His pride and inability to lose made him arrogant.
With the shinigami eyes
Light Yagami could write the name of L, Near, Mello, and anyone who came against him.
The Death Note + his intelligence + the eyes would of guarantee victory the moment Ryuk offered them.
Sure he wouldn't live long, but he wouldn't have to rely on misa who is more of a liability and a annoyance than a support to his goals of being God.
Ryuk can see the time and date of when light will die
(Light doesn't know when he will die and he never stops to consider how long he will live. He assumes he will live for a long time, but at any point in the show he could die from a criminal or accident as the death note never provides any extension to his life like it does Ryuk or protection to his life)
[Ryuk not sharing L's name or sharing Lights time of death should be a indication that Ryuk knew Light would not live long and wanted to see how far he'd go]
If light was destined to die where he dies then he did not live long
The amount of time from when he found the death note to when he died is very short
Had he had the eyes
It would alter the timeline of events
Cutting his life in half but changing his life span to a new destined time of death similar to Misa when she was saved when she was supposed to die.
Light would of been God for the years he lived
Unchallenged by anyone and also having misa as a support making him near impossible to defeat
Light is destined to die
He might as well went all in
To secure his victoryv

Death Note was just an anime about who had the more powerful autism
this is the best comment lol
nah light has the complete opposite of autism whilst L has the most potent autism, it is a battle between the two extremes
Fake rule? I haven’t watched this show in such a long time what fake rule was written
@@genox633 before light was taken under custody he had ryuk write a fake rule that upon the first time using the death note, you start a 13 day cycle where you have to continue writing down names or you die. if i remember right light was in custody for 50.

Mikami f’d it up big time as well

The way L found about Kira being in japan was cool, but the way Light exploited the rules of the Death Note to clear himself was 200^200 iq moment
Keep in mind it still ended up getting him killed cause it made the investigation teams find out about death notes and use it to incriminate Kira
What's insane is that L suspected that Light has lost his memories and is planning to return them somehow which even surprised Light
0:39 only if light yelled out loud " You are L,the famous detective"
People saying Naomi's death might be the smartest move, but for me her death was the most painful one she literally lost her husband and when she trusted a friend she got cheated and killed. For that's the saddest part of the whole series😥
I wish she had been around the series for longer, she was a really good character
@@clueanalysis2596 Yeah🤧
“friend”
Smartest moment has to be when Light figured out ways to kill people that even Ryuk didn't know about after thousands of years.
I remember watching the "I am L" scene with my sister. My sister's face of confusion matched my own for 20 seconds before i realized that it wasn't just a stupid play, it was a brilliant move. Having to explain it to my sister was the hardest part, but luckily the show did it by itself.
How its a brilliant move?
Also incredible intuition on a 5% lead and considering an investigation like this 5% is a rather realistic estimate of likelihood of suspicion.
you had a very much time writing all these
Heard that what L means by saying his suspicion is 5% is actually 95% 👀
@@SusuPilihan i think that with his evaluation of his suspicion of light initially was 5% being a realistic margin not as 95% but that 5% is a high margin in the scheme of the possibility of anyone else in Japan which has an extremely dense population. So while looking like a small number thinking about anyone else their suspicion level would be at a percentage lower than one but still a perfectly capable suspicion considering the manner of the murders being completely anonymous and leaving no evidence or knowledge of how they were killed. later on he doesn't use percentages because after the 15 day lockdown period it became a scenario of where he either was or he wasn't and L knew that in all likelihood it was light as kira but couldn't find a way into cornering a much needed confession to ever confirm that it was him and this is also probably why when he said if i die then arrest light because he is kira. this is all speculation ofc but this is how i took it when he refers to a percentage of suspicion he felt worthy enough to look into light as his primary suspect.
in my opinion L should have also put on a mask when he confronted light. he should have just told everyone he was an acid attack victim or something.
i could read a whole book containing your opinions on death note
L is definitely smarter by a long shot.
L tied for a perfect score on that exam with light, light studied excessively and L just showed up.
Out of billions of people, Light managed to reveal himself as Kira like a dumb-ass almost immediately.
Where did light reveal himself as kira?
@@Sai_Zz he fell right into L’s trap during the broadcasting situation, when L revealed his body double ‘L Lind Taylor’. he let his anger get the best of him & murdered the criminal without a second thought and revealed that he was in Japan 💀🤞🏻
You know that L attended the most prestigious schools, right? He didn't "just" show up.
@@13taras he went to school? AHAHA SORRY THATS A GENUINE QUESTION
@@messiah9527 Thank you
Nah Near lost; he was bailed out by Mello, whom made Teru Mikami act out and thus expose the fake notebook thing
Like that was literally the best plan of the show
ppl arguing about a characters iq level, but never thinking about how the author thought of all this...
Fun fact: if L gives a percentage chance, that means it's 100% he is right.
Not exactly, but the writers have stated that when he says a percentage it’s at least >70%

lets not forget that Light managed to kill a shinigami that hated him and L at the same time which were his only two obstacles that in turn gave him freedom over misa's fate as well, incredible moment
Yeah he is good in manipulation too
This was my first anime I watched some 15 years ago now. There's been a ton of great shows since, but none has ever hooked me the way Death Note did. So many crazy moments
After all these years and forever ,no one can change the fact that death note is one of the biggest masterpiece in the whole anime world , even rewatching it still make me fascinated ✨
Just the first half though
L: Smart
Light: Smart as well
And then we have the writer, sitting quietly in the corner, smoking a FAT cigar, proud of his writing
Kira’s dumbest move ever was trying to kill the guy in the tv. literally kira could have been anyone anywhere, but he narrowed himself into that town, with police connections. literally facepalmed the rest of the show after that
Well uh the podcast worked because it happened in the area
It actually makes sense, cause light was always overconfident and cocky.
You clearly misunderstood the situation
L said that the broadcast is internationally aired because at that time no one know where Kira is (but in fact, L already made a guess based on previous killing crime), so Light killed the guy on TV with assumption that the news internationally aired
Kira isn't dumb but L is just smarter
You should watch the series again if you forget, don't just comment because you watched this video
Dumbest? nowhere near that because as we know.
You gotta remember light was only 17 and yes he’s smart but as a teen he’s still going to be a little careless and impulsive
2:04 If Light Yagami never killed FBI agents (and he did not even need to. He was being too insecure and overprotective), then he would never have got caught.
If Light never killed a convicted prisoner receiving the death penalty he wouldn't have been caught. Least not so soon.
I swear this show is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched
I agree
The first one "I want to tell you that I am L" is a *hell* of a power move on L's part. It's not just putting Light in an awkward spot it's saying 'I'm right here, what'cha gonna do about it?'
The second one is...
@@kazekamiha That may be true, however revealing herself on a broadcast is probably the dumbest move anybody made in the entire series.
The TV broadcast is what really got me interested in the series and still my favourite moment. Still simply to follow, but so brilliant!
I think it was one of the smartest moment how light killed off L. By forcing rem to do it unless misa dies, but when she does do it for misa rem dies along with L removing two problems
5:54 "DO IT KIRA" lmao
Imagine how much Light could have got away with if he had the knowledge and experience he had with Death Note at the end of the series, when L initiated his first broadcast with Lind L. Tailor.
He'd probably be even more cocky seeing later on he though so much of himself that he thought he didn't have to try as hard.
The way Light planned for the memories coming back to him and proving him innocent was mind-blowing 🤯

The awesome part about death note is that it’s hard to choose sides

Everyone usually thinks that light was smarter than L because he was able to trick him and kill him but shinigami's were under control of light so in my opinion L was smarter
The author himself said Light was smarter.
@@neptunemystic9301 the author never said so
The author instead said L was smarter because the plot required it
Then Light then near
light has higher iq 9/10 but author said l is smarter.
Light has higher IQ than L but L's deducting skills surpasses the light's IQ .
@@nekosalad8308 that's actually knowledge and L has higher Initiative so they pretty equal
If the characters have more iq than all humans on heart ..
Now imagine the iq of the writer ?
Writer is ofc not smarter then L or Light. He can write them because he is like the God of that universe
@@basaris1277 bro yes the writer isn't " smart " but he's more intelligent to make even the watchers look like fools by creating situations which looks impossible to deal with but the solution showed isout of the box thinking... so yes he isn't smart hes intelligent

I'm not saying he's dumb btw ^^^

Really the way they made death note, it's story, it's dubbing, it's bgm everything is top notch
I loved light's plan of taking away his own memories, but I still think that the part where L deduces how kira killed the fbi is the most brilliant
As much as I love Death Note for the suspenseful cat-and-mouse story it tells, it REALLY says a lot when some of its smartest plays are made in the first ten episodes and then it meanders until the end when Light loses all of his likeability.
don't read my name (I'm not a bot or rickroll, I created a mystery and I want you or someone else to solve thy mystery. 😆)
I really love the way light is finding a solution for everything.
Light : "sighs"
L : The Probability Of Light Being Kira Has Been Increased by 5%
L's plan was actually without risks, like even if the plan failed only finding Kira would be difficult
But Light's plan was really a gamble and the way it succeeded was awesome
@1Verse4ll nobody cares about one measly life in Death Note, that too of a criminal..
@1Verse4ll ohh but I don't think he planned that far from the beginning, I like to think he made it up after getting his memory...
@@drshspkt2012 he deleted comment can you tell me what he said?
YEARS AFTER AFTER WACTHING THIS SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME I STILL CANT GET OVER THE SHEER GENIUS OF L AND LIGHT
The paper he left on his door and the 1.5 centimeter detail were also very good.
Light getting back his memory is the smartest scene in the entire series.
Even then he lost just because of Mikami
Smarter than L? That’s hilarious, L almost won a game he didn’t know the rules to. The Death Note is such a wildcard, ridiculous advantage that L doing as well as he did definitely proves he’s smarter than Light.
Imagine a reboot of Death Note and the first thing you hear is the calm voice of Light Yagami saying..........
"There's an invisible shadow upon my Light... and that shadow......
loves apples".
I definitely think the planning of Kira is the best, he confined himself and everything went perfectly according to plan,
He would've won even if that one guy didn't put the notebook in the locker or whatever he did by not listening
The dialog was in the hospital near Light's dad:
L - not long ago Kira killed 12 FBI agents who'd come to Japan to assist us
he continued
L - they were instructed to follow people connected to the Japanese police. One of these agents Ray Pember exhibited unusual behavior before he died.
Light - I understand.. and i was one of the people Ray Pember investigated before he died. It only makes sense I'd be a suspect. Nope, to be more precise, there is no one else you could suspect.
You need to understand that at this moment of story Light already trying to pretend he was not in control of his actions to create some sort of alibi.
pause
L - i find Light's deductive powers quite impressive.
Other animes : compering their power level
Death note: Now, let's test your IQ level.

This anime introduced me to anime community as this was the first series I watched on interest.
After this I went on with Detective Conan and still watching it. There are a good number of mystery, thriller, action animes.
Nice, I haven't seen too much of Detective Conan, how is it compared to Death Note and on its own?
@@clueanalysis2596 While Death note is quite dark throughout the series, detective conan is different as it also has comedy genre.
But in aspects of mystery, thrill, suspense and psychology, detective conan is far ahead of Death note.
First 127 episode is investment, and then from episode 128 you start to get returns. After episode 345, you will realize the actual level of game. The reason it is so long is because is because around 40% episodes are fillers.
