Fun fact, for all of his crimes (including ones listed in the sequel/continuation manga), Light Yagami’s sentence in the US would be 33,890 years in prison-4492 life sentences-and 397 death sentences. Edit: I counted most killings as single murders and group killing (examples for groups range from the FBI and the massacre after L’s death) with the difference being did he do a bunch in a row. First degree murder is punishable by up to 24 years in prison in most states with mass murder (three murders or more at a time, there is no cap to how high it can go) are death penalties or life sentences. The count also uses all possible minor crimes with maximum punishments as well as his incitement of riots and bringing in multiple accomplices.
Lights mom is probably the most saddest moms in anime. Her husband died trying to catch Kira, her daughter is now disabled because she got involved in the Kira case, and the son turned out to be Kira.
If I'm being honest I'm pretty sure she would've offed herself, though given she has to take care of her daughter, I think she'd probably try to live with it. Though who knows how well that'd go. Having the world potentially blame you, and cult members trying to praise you for being the mother of Kira.
Actually apparently the mother and sister are never told the Task Force agreed to keep Kira's identity a secret to protect the remaining members of the Yagami family
List of things CJ didn’t explain. 3:17 Light almost killed himself writing this guy’s name, because it was explained in the Death Note that if the user purposely wrote the person’s name wrong 4 times in a row, not only will the person being written on there be free of the Death Note, but the user will die. 18:12 Misa had it made. As dumb as she may be some, if not most of the times, she was good. Because what CJ forgot to mention was that shinigamis if they care for the human to the point where they would sacrifice themselves to save them from the assailant by writing the assailant‘s name on the Death Note, that human the shinigami saved gets his/her lifespan. Assuming the shinigamis had bodies on their Death Note written before meeting Misa and sacrificing themselves, Misa could live for countless generations. So cutting her lifespan in half twice over wouldn’t really affect her at all. 27:26 100,000+ is a lowball for Light his actual count has to be within the range of 344,195 bodies give or take a few 40+. And finally even though Misa had longevity, she still couldn’t live without Light. It was strongly mentioned that shortly after Light’s death, she not-alived herself.
3:17 Light wouldn’t have died though Light offered an honest attempt at spelling this guy’s name so if he failed, this would count as him accidentally writing the guy’s name wrong four times and he’d stay alive, it’s just that he wouldn’t be able to kill the guy again, so he’d have to continue his testing somewhere else
As Art above said, light would not have died at 3:17, that rule is for knowingly spelling the name wrong 4 times, now the character would be immune to the Death Note, but as Light was trying to spell the name correctly, he isn't punished. That being said, we saw the name wrote at least 6 times, how different might the series have been had the "correct" spelling been after attempt number 4? Does Light chalk it up to coincidence after the second test, and just discard the book? Or run more tests and become obsessed with the one who didn't die? Would be an interesting what-if scenario.
Wait she offed herself? I figured she would have gotten arrested because she was also a suspect in the Kira case and on top of that was connected to Light
@@thecinnamonguy5127 if you watched the end credits of the anime, the last time we see Misa is her standing on the edge of a tall building, and someone as love crazed for Light as she was, it would be almost a guarantee that she would commit death by fall damage once she found out Light is dead

Craziest thing in the anime. Light would have won if Takashi did what he was supposed to do. It was his mess up in doing one different thing that led to Light being caught in the end and Light knew that his plan was perfect if the dude didn't panic at that one moment.
Light could have also won easier if he wrote other countries criminals first including Japan and waited on killing Lind L. Taylor until a few hours after the broadcast or just not kill him at all, his ego screwed him

The most damning thing about Light wasn't even the fact that the moment his power was threatened. He chose to kill innocents without hesitation. Nah he went through a whole arc with amnesia. Working with L, being good friends with him. You see the man he couldve been if he never had the Death Note. The moment he gets his memories back. There is no delay, no internal conflict, no hesitation, nothing. Where most characters in this scenario change their ways or contemplate their choices. Light just went right on back to being an evil mastermind with no pause whatsoever. Absolutely vile.

@@sewison7990 I think it's more effective, or most effective, that everything Light does was all his doing, rather than him being outright mind-controlled. Like, Ryuk implies this was all Light's doing, and Ryuk was just in it for the show. And frankly, he knew the outcome, but it was no skin off his back how we get to that point. It felt less like Ryuk playing Light like a fiddle, and more like "the game was rigged from the start" kind of thing. And Light was genuinely a terrible, psychotic person..... And we know this because....Light isn't the only one who has a Shinigami. Light is the single most psychotic character for all intents and purposes with no interventions one way or the other. What's jarring is simply how easily his neurotic tendencies got set off with a mere power trip. Not to mention, Light is an absolute manipulator in Jump Victory Vs. He never has any intrinsic power or killing capability. He just goes full Lelouch mode anyway and controls everybody, villains AND heroes. Call it fanfiction. I thought it was surprisingly good writing. I think at his core, Light is just a manipulative dude with a God complex. Since episode 1. Just needed that little push. The crazy thing about the amnesia thing is he's such a conceited manipulator, he even manipulated himself. Gave himself amnesia, made himself innocent, set himself up to be tormented in jail and everything. He turned himself into a victim in his own experiment. He is THAT motha fucka.
The fact that Matsuda, the dumbest and most trusting member of the task force was the first person to be on Light so he couldnt kill anyone was poetic justice, and the fact he had such pinpoint accuracy that he only took lights hands out without killing him outright

I believe that by the end of the series, Light is estimated to have killed around 124,925 people. This number includes both criminals and those who opposed him. Light’s use of the Death Note to eliminate criminals and create a “new world” free of crime ultimately led to his downfall. His actions and the resulting death toll highlight the series’ exploration of the consequences of absolute power and moral corruption.
To this day I find Light Downfall to be my personal favorite. It revealed that he was nothing more than a sick human pretending to be god. (Although I wish I had an entire opera and *potato chips* when writing)
Real but he was aboutta win again at the end if mikami didnt screw up bro has to be one of the most devious while being the smartest in his verse they had to use plot to beat bro.. (except L he got done so dirty by rem)
The ending in the manga is a bit different to the ending in the anime. And the ending in the manga definitely hammers home how Light was nothing more than an egotistical man baby with a God complex, with him begging and crying about how he doesn't want to die at the feet of Ryuk as the whole task force just watches.
It really gets downplayed a lot how many innocent people he killed and or lives ruined, including his own family. W to CJ for rightfully pointing that out.
The moment he killed that FBI agent, he went too far. I literally remember going "Why couldn't you just stick to the serious criminals, Light?" the first time I saw that scene.
You know damn well why lol, penber was on his ass, light had no trouble sticking to just criminals until his identity was close to getting exposed. And had he known L’s name earlier, his ass would’ve gotten offed too

Raye's death in the first Japanese live action film is even more tragic. Light actually SMILES while Raye is dying and Naomi who followed her fiancé her last moment with Raye is when he dies from his heart attack and Light didn't care to where he just goes about his business as usual

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
I think one of the scariest things about Light is that, unlike most anime villains, or protagonists, that turn to a dark path... Light didn’t have a tragic backstory. No dead relatives, no dead Momma (*glared at the live action version*), nothing. The dude had a relatively normal life and chose to be evil. If anything, it's frightening because it shows that *anyone* could be like him. Hell we probably have walked past guys like Light/Kira and we wouldn't know because of how easily people like him can blend into society.
the fact that people are so willing to excuse atrocity as to assume there is always a tragic back story is much scarier and also just a pretty awful way to frame victims as potential threats. this is the kinda dumb logic that has people blaming school shootings on bullying.

@@surgiosurge If he was right, then why did the global crime rate shoot up higher than it originally was after he died? The entire thing was just some kid with a god complex getting his hands on enough power to do whatever he had always wanted to do.
What makes this all the more sad that Light yagami was born to a loving family a supportive mother a caring sister and a father who fully trusted his son to a point of his death he had no idea his son was kira.....this sick twisted psychopath played on people emotions to fulll effect and he didnt show any form of remorse even when he died Its safe to say this kind of peraon was never meant to exist

It’s like a nihilist who claims to be indifferent to death for themselves begging for mercy once their life is in actual grave danger of ending to the people or person who put them in that position. In Light’s case, he was regretting nothing until his life was about to end in which he starts begging for mercy from Ryuk and the task force as he was cocky enough to think he was getting away with all of it alive; he only regrets the consequences he’s now experiencing, not the actual actions committed.
You should've seen how Light died in the manga. It was so funny. He was begging Ryuk not to kill him. He was pissing and shitting his pants to not die. He went out like a coward lmao.

Know the real eff'd part? Had Light not let it go to his head, the world would've been a better place. I forgot the exact numbers, but Light says thanks to his action, crime has been reduced world wide by around 70%. That is insane, and quite honestly, amazing. Wars are basically over, violent crimes are down by 70%, and overall the world is more peaceful. He did something very few in media has ever done. Oh, there's also some one-shots. First is "The Taro Kagami Story", where two kids find Death Notes, and we get introduced to the Death Eraser, which realives someone killed by a Death Note, completely invalidating rule LXVIII (I also think Tsugumi Ohba or whoever wrote this one-shot regretted it as this rule seems to have been removed). The second I don't remember the name, but a boy finds a Death Note, but instead of using it, decides to sell it to the highest bidder, and caused LXVII to be written, killing buyer and seller (He also used the money to pay off the debts of everyone in Japan so... Is he good...?).
I actually rewatched this few months ago. Its amazing how they fit all that conclusion into just 37 episodes and came out amazingly just like Cowboy bebop with just 26 episodes. Start to end, perfect story with all answered except whatever you make up to know
I'd argue the shinigami being so willing to literally kill themselves for Misa could have used a bit more explaining. I wouldn't care about it but Light using Rem to kill L takes away from his character big time imo.
@thevermintide1290 well not 100% sure why the 1st one did...but I know in the manga Rem been watching Misa from the shinigami realm amd developed some type of feelings for her and see her as a pure person. Like she says she's different from other human beings who uses the death note for their own selfish gains or reasons but not Misa. She doesn't do this at all an she thought that Light was also a Pure person since he was killing off all the bad people an she saw that as it benefiting the world and not just himself. But did threaten if he tries to kill Misa then she'll kill him. But I think it's Light's character since he uses everyone for his plan. Even used Ryuk by him apples or not giving him apples so he will do what he wants at times
@@YourOnlyHero Oh yeah I understand Rem had been watching Misa and liked her. I just don't think its explained well why that translates into her being devoted enough to Misa to justify offing themselves for her. I'm happy that CJ isn't stopping at Don Flamingo. Cj's just getting started. Since Madara, I have been staying on this content. The editing, the sound effects, the commentary. It just keeps getting better.
The most scariest and dangerous thing about Death Note is not the possibility of a Light Yagami (normal person finding the note), it’s the fact that there is no “L”. Light’s foil was that there was an L to thwart him. A Batman level detective who could find and draw him out into the open. Light is also insanely intelligent, but rarely do we see intellects of L’s caliber. Without L…Light solos the entire world, and truly establishes himself as god. His sick, sadistic, children most likely carrying on his legacy. Lastly, add in the timeframe with the limited technology and that’s why Light’s kill count isn’t higher. Now, imagine Death Note with today’s technology and access to information. Just log on to Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, and you could kill virtually anyone and everyone.
I mean, in the end L did lose. It took the combined efforts of N and M to actually stop him. Not to mention that Mello had to die just so Near could ultimately prove Light was Kira. Light literally was in a 3v1 and killed two of them. Given that fact, the most dangerous thing is still a normal person like Light Yagami picking up the Death Note
Light isn't normal though. His intellect was insane on an academic level and as a mental rival for someone like L. A normal person would get caught well before Light did. Ryuk even says this to Light

Wrong , that's Matsuda's theory , and even assuming its correct , that would be after Near got his hands on the real death note by being lucky that Light and Mikami wrote Takada's name at the same time so neither of them noticed that the other made a move and since they killed there only way of contact ( Takada ) , it was already over at that point , but Near didn't plan that as he said his original plan was what Light predicted , so Near would have lost if Mello didn't bring the element of chaos
Y'know something I thought about just now that's really sad? Imagine Light's mother in all this, first her husband dies due to this whole Kira thing, then your daughter is kidnapped and left in such a traumatized state she's basically a vegetable, then to top it all of, your son is dead and you find out that he was basically the greatest serial killer of all time and basically was the direct cause of your entire family's suffering.
Pretty sure they mentioned something about keeping Light’s identity a secret but even then. Her husband and son are dead and daughter is mentally scarred for life. What a terrible evil Light brought
Also when Raye Penbar got on the train and Light had told him to “not look around” it was bc he would’ve seen Ryuk after touching the papers and freaked the fuck out.
BRO THANK YOU FOR REFERENCING THOSE WEIRDOS WHO WERE INTO DAHMER. A). It was OBVIOUS they only said that because they found the actor PORTRAYING HIM attractive. B). The one thing I like about the final confrontation with near is that light legitimately would have won had mikami not freaked out. Lights issue is assuming everyone would act the way he does.
The Film Theorists actually tried to tackle an estimated number of deaths caused by the death note (the 4 main users) reaching an average of 46,500 per year so about 279000, thing is crime rates apparently decreased as a result and wars kinda stopped so he may have saved many more. Highly recommend watching the video.
I don’t want to add to Light’s god complex, but we all gotta admit that iconic Kira laugh from the last episode is a godtier evil/psychotic laugh. Among the moments any 2000’s anime fan would remember.
36:07 Fun Fact; Light’s death is a symbolic one because whoever uses the Death Note and dies is doesn’t transcend to the afterlife. He died in the middle of the stairs, symbolizing his failure of reaching heaven nor hell.
Not really that was just ryuk messing with light in reality the reason he said that deathnote users cant go to heaven or hell is becuase they dont exist in the deathnote universe stated in the manga and glossed over quickly in the anime by the end its stated that all humans who die good or evil go to the same place and that place is MU or nothingness ( a Buddhism term) so regardless of how you die in death note good or bad you simply cease to exist lol 😂

13:38 I just realized that this in itself is crazy. That means that Light not only used Ray Penbar to kill the other FBI Agents, but he also forced him write in the death note, meaning he also doomed Ray to neither go to heaven or hell and made him a murderer too. Light was cold-blooded. Edit: Just got informed that there is no heaven or hell in Death Note and was a lie that Ryuk made up just for the fun of it.

I just learned about her longevity through you so thanks!
3:17 Light wouldn’t have died though
Light offered an honest attempt at spelling this guy’s name so if he failed, this would count as him accidentally writing the guy’s name wrong four times and he’d stay alive, it’s just that he wouldn’t be able to kill the guy again, so he’d have to continue his testing somewhere else

I think it's more effective, or most effective, that everything Light does was all his doing, rather than him being outright mind-controlled.

Light’s use of the Death Note to eliminate criminals and create a “new world” free of crime ultimately led to his downfall. His actions and the resulting death toll highlight the series’ exploration of the consequences of absolute power and moral corruption.

"This local crackhead was the first victim if Light." 😂😂😂
This shit about funny as hell
Fun fact: Near managed to expose Light as Kira by giving Mikami a fake death note and had him write down everyone’s names EXCEPT for Light’s
You know this man a good conetent creator when he can entertain hundreds of thousands of people, while only posting once or twice a month

The mom and sister suffered the most on god
Pretty sure they mentioned something about keeping Light’s identity a secret but even then. Her husband and son are dead and daughter is mentally scarred for life. What a terrible evil Light brought
Light: I want to create a new world.
Everyone: Cool motive, still murder.
Peralta that you brother?
God be like
Wesker: First time?
What if yagami light was in resident evil series
Man... You're the GOAT man... The sounds and memes... It just does it for me. Never stop
Like it pissed me off especially in terms what the show did to the families of the victims; but what pissed me of the most was girls on social media (mainly TikTok) talking about how they didn’t want him to die as if he was their FAVOURITE CHARACTER and then on top of that said he looked good and wanted to be with him.
A). It was OBVIOUS they only said that because they found the actor PORTRAYING HIM attractive.
B). THE REAL ONE looks clapped and honestly if the things he did weren’t disgusting to you his appearance would hit you with explosive diarrhoea and projectile vomiting AT THE SAME TIME.
C). BUT LASTLY THE GUY SWINGS FOR THE OTHER TEAM HE NOT GONNA LET YOU HIT AND MOST LIKELY GONNA GO FOR YOUR BROTHER OR FATHER.
Light: *Writes down biker's name in the Note
Truck-Kun: "WHAT'S GOOD Y'ALL?! I just came up with a great new Isekai for you: 'I Was A Biker Reincarnated into a Dungeon Slime'! Hah. Perfect."
My sides made it all the way to the afterlife from that one.
Light wrote your name to die by laughing
The amount manipulation that Light has is so fascinating and probably the best if seen in an anime
Imagine outsmarting the worlds best detective only to be beaten by some 14 year old who sat like L.
His plot armor ran out that's why that awful ending happened
The show was good but the ending was not it. Like I had a feeling they were gonna take L off just so his predecessor could come in
@@highsourjamapple9141 They took the last half of the manga and compressed it into the last 1/3rd of the show, thats why things felt so rushed
@@xmedssh7927 fr bro
Mello beat him, Near just provided the evidence.

Not really that was just ryuk messing with light
in reality the reason he said that deathnote users cant go to heaven or hell is becuase they dont exist in the deathnote universe
stated in the manga and glossed over quickly in the anime by the end its stated
that all humans who die good or evil go to the same place and that place is MU or nothingness ( a Buddhism term)
so regardless of how you die in death note good or bad you simply cease to exist lol 😂
@@markcampione3118 the manga yeah, but all incarnations its honestly up to interpretation. Because the live action japanese death movies adapted the manga ending scene and Ryukyu taunts light that he ain't going to heaven or hell when he dies after writing his name. That's one aspect I see get changed in adaptations of the story, honestly I don't think people that adapt death note really like alot of the creators original ideas because they always changing aspects. And honestly I gotta agree but the dude who created death note made alot of out of nowhere revelations on things for no good reason. Like the whole after thing literally came out of nowhere despite Ryukyu stating in the manga that heaven exists. But then in the end had he some conversation with light where he had said it didn't exist? So why the misdirect? You see what I'm saying?
@@MichelangeloVA not to be rude but i don't think ryuk ever says that heaven exist
all he said was that any human who uses the deathnote can neither go to heaven or hell
however its later revealed that the joke is that the user doesn't go to heaven or hell because
no one go to heaven or hell lol 😂 because it doesn't exist
its a core part of the series its just that the anime glosses over it so fast in a on screen quote in the last episode and most death note fans didn't read the manga so its mostly unkown
@@markcampione3118 nah in the manga after light dad dies, he mentions since he didn't use the death note he probably went to heaven. On the death note reddit, I've seen people speculate that the creator did have afterlife existing but decided to change it in the end. Which kinda makes sense, and ironic given the live action movie ending. But yeah manga canon, nothing. Other adaptations is up to interpretations.
If Light was still good person, he would solo Diddy, Drake , Dan Schneider, Kris Tyson and so many child predators by writing their names
I’m pretty sure than both in Anime and Manga he wrote the names of several kiddy touchers.
And let be honest, if anyone who has the base ammount of decency got a Death Note, kiddy touchers would be the first to go
He seemed to only kill people in jail at first. Diddy, Drake and the such would still be good to go.
@@trehacksync for a while. He did kill the SO cause he didn’t got locked up for lack of evidence. So people like Chris Tyson would go on the count
He would've done it anyway
@@trehacksync they would have got it when he was purging he world after L dies
Actually in another anime called death parade made by the same animation studio as deathnote it was seen that Light Yagami, after his death in Death Note, ended up in the afterlife, where he was judged like all other souls.
Ray wasn’t doomed with that kind of fate, but he still died a murderer.
Am I crazy or was the death note pages that ray wrote was way taller and bigger than the ones in the death note
Yoooooo. I never thought about it like that. That's heartless. You opened my eyes!!!!
Actually, it's turn's out that was bit of a lie or joke by ryuk there is no heaven or hell in death note everyone goes into nothingness, this actually makes killing even worse in death note because their really is nothing after they die in death note you die that's it good evil it doesn't matter they all go into nothingness.
@@blackmagic5261 Damn, Ryuk fr the ultimate troll
Heaven nor Hell exist in the world of death note, Ryuk was trolling light when he warned him of that, nobody goes to heaven or hell after death, so Ray wasn’t doomed in that way

Fun fact, the second victim who had that accidental death, the one that tried to force himself on that girl, in the manga he never actually went that far. He was bothering her and not giving up despite being told no, but he never actually did anything illegal there. I've heard that the author has confirmed that it was one of the few deaths Light regretted, since he wasn't an actual criminal. Doubt Light cared that much in the long run, but it's interesting.
I suppose it's possible that there was even a little humanity in Light.
But it's not like he was redeemable by any means. It's just a matter of fact. He had a code of ethics. Of sorts.
At best, he had a bit of sympathy or pity, but no real compassion I think.

He was NOT like that, not even in the manga, he just couldn't accept his death. He would never beg ryuk to spare his life

@@subwall7464 no, he definitely was terrified of dying when it all came crashing down around him. by my estimate i believe technically since many murders were prevented by my client, Kira should not be judged by the guilty people he killed, and instead only be judged by the innocents.
innocents exclude journalist (not people), politicians (sub-human) and the law enforcement as that was clearly an act of self-defence.
in conclusion, my client deserves to be removed from the serial killer title, as a more accurate title would be a morally-grey vigilante.
