Not sure if you already realized but Todo did NOT make Yuji switch. That’s what’s so damn hard about it, he conditioned him into reacting to that clap but it didn’t work due Todo not having his hand. Mahito went to hit where he THOUGHT Yuji would be and left himself wide open. I love when Gege uses legit combat tactics like conditioning and reads to the fights makes the characters seem competent beyond abuse of broken powers
I really wish his clapping didn’t just end with his hands like any sound that would’ve made a clap sound would’ve worked. I really wish it would’ve worked that way.
Todo didn't make Yuji swap places in the end, it was a fake out. Todo can't do his CT anymore but Mahito didn't know that so he assumed he swapped places and swung at air which allowed Yuji to hit him with the black flash. Todo holds the title for one of the greatest fake out of all time.

Nobara needs "something" of value from "someone", Nanami needs to hit their opponents within the 7:3 Ratio he makes in order for his technique to function, Megumi needs to tame his shikigami before being freely able to use them, Ino needs to cover his face in order to become a medium for the spirits he holds within his technique, The Grandma needed part of Toji in order to call forward the information of his body... and Todo needs to perform the act of "clapping his hands" for said technique to work.

Watching Mahito get swirled towards his ultimate demise, along with the added audio of him pleading for his life before letting out a final shriek of despair as he seizes to exist actually fits this scene really well. The context is a little different though, as in the anime and manga, I’m pretty sure that Mahito attempts to attack Geto if I’m not mistaken, but honestly, it sort of does fit the idea of Geto having waited for Mahito to mess up just so that he can get to punish him, exactly like the voodoo entities from the original Disney movie felt towards Dr. Facilier. Either way, I think this version of that scene does a really good job at showing the desperation such a degenerate like Mahito can feel, because even though he has mindlessly killed thousands if not millions, he is still human in one way, fearing for his own mortality just like the people he had tortured and murdered.
This is a very great point considering Mahito is reverse Itadori, killing mercilessly without thought, to the point where when Jogo died and was speaking to Hanami he refers to death as a mirror that humans fear, and labeled Mahito as that Mirror, he is a true cruse who’s soul existence is to cause Conflict and makes a very strong example of a “Villain” to me I’m assuming others
The one thing Itadori maybe understands about Mahito is that he's a spiritual amalgamation of humanities worst traits. He's petty, selfish, hedonistic, vain, self-destructive, cowardly, completely lacking in empathy/sympathy, and above all see's human's as nothing more than toys. What Yuji is essentially seeing is all of our greatest sins and action's made cursed-spirit flesh. It's very similar to Demon Slayer in that the only reason there are demons in the first place was because we F'd around with alchemy and found out.

Todo didn't make Yuji swap places in the end, it was a fake out. Todo can't do his CT anymore but Mahito didn't know that so he assumed he swapped places and swung at air which allowed Yuji to hit him with the black flash. Todo holds the title for one of the greatest fake out of all time.

Watching Mahito get swirled towards his ultimate demise, along with the added audio of him pleading for his life before letting out a final shriek of despair as he seizes to exist actually fits this scene really well.
The context is a little different though, as in the anime and manga, I’m pretty sure that Mahito attempts to attack Geto if I’m not mistaken, but honestly, it sort of does fit the idea of Geto having waited for Mahito to mess up just so that he can get to punish him, exactly like the voodoo entities from the original Disney movie felt towards Dr. Facilier.
Either way, I think this version of that scene does a really good job at showing the desperation such a degenerate like Mahito can feel, because even though he has mindlessly killed thousands if not millions, he is still human in one way, fearing for his own mortality just like the people he had tortured and murdered.
This is a very great point considering Mahito is reverse Itadori, killing mercilessly without thought, to the point where when Jogo died and was speaking to Hanami he refers to death as a mirror that humans fear, and labeled Mahito as that Mirror, he is a true cruse who’s soul existence is to cause Conflict and makes a very strong example of a “Villain” to me I’m assuming others
