That’s his own, $1000, personal headset. The Captain wears a David&Clark headset. If they were company issued they would both have the same brand headset. A lot healthier this way. You don’t want to be wearing a sweaty, stinky, community headset.😬
Sasha the headset is an investment though. Since it will last a lifetime, and having a good headset is good for the ears, so albeit expensive, it’s still good value for a pilot in the long run
No other industry would "get away" without paying for your time from the moment you start working for them. To only pay pilots for "flight time" should be addressed by not only the Department of Labor but Congress.
UR HIRED HR it leads to rushing and cutting corners to get going and getting paid. Not getting paid even a little something for commuting or deadheading is bs too.
If they are being paid hourly, then yes it's a labor violation and they would probably have a strong case to sue the airline. Problem is, it would probably get them blacklisted from flying commercially ever again. If they are salaried, it's a different story.
UR HIRED HR they have unions who negotiate their rates and airlines pay pilots a minimum number of hours monthly, and more if they go over that amount of hours
Man, this video made me smile. Brought back memories of my early days. Especially your jalopy airport car! Enjoy these days while you can. In no time flat you’ll be at a legacy carrier no doubt, doing 1-3 legs a day, watching your love of aviation slowly transform into just another job. Still a great job and none I’d rather do, but just another job... Good work kid. You’ll go far indeed!
I come across your posting by accident BUT I must say young man, I am impressed. You must have had wonderful parents or someone of equal value that pointed you in the right direction. For you to have your pilot license and go one to get your instrument rating and now to be a first officer even on a small airline is ONE BIG feather in your cap. I will be adding you to my following list. As an American of 76 years, I see too many young people that have no direction in their life. Keep on doing what you are doing and make us proud of you. God bless you in everything you decide to do.
hello my friend, I've been a first officer of C208 for almost 3 years, doing exactly this same job. I wonder how you could film all the parts and steps of your flight, that was completely impressive! There are so many tasks to do and you did very well! Congratulation for your work and thank you for bringing us all the details of being a Grand Caravan first officer.
1:30 Gets you from A to B.... and then.... eventually back to A. My first car was the same - I was a wizard with a screwdriver and a flashlight in the dark!
Swayne, I think this video is invaluable! Thanks for making it! Always great to see the "slugging it out" part of a great flying gig along with the beautiful views!
The best airport courtesy car I've ever had was in Auburn, Alabama. A late 1980's vintage Cutless Classic with no hub caps and about 8 tones of blue paint at various places on the car.
You're awesome. Working on my CPL multi engine. You're motivating me to work harder especially when I have to study for my written test.✈✈✈✈ Aviators always motivate each other.✈✈✈✈
Swayne, very insightful video showing the down and dirty. Appreciate the detailed listing of all the duties you have pull off to do a turnaround. At one time, I was an ATO aboard an aircraft carrier. Imagine deplaning a bunch of pax and then trying to corral them on the flight deck with jets spooling and props spinning all around. It was hard work, but still one of the best jobs I ever had.
You are one of the more well versed youtubers out there. Love your content and your ability to chase your dreams. I am a student pilot and you are a great source for real- life information
Congratulations on this next step in your journey of being a pilot swayne! I'm a CAP cadet and I just had my first of flight in the 172 and looking into going to the civil air patrol powered flight academy to further myself in aviation, and your videos have been a big inspiration on not only being able to do the job, but also showing many veiwers like me how great aviation is! Good luck to you!
One comment about your car. I hope you have Uber there because looking at you cars condition there will be a good chance it will break on your commute to your job and you cannot afford to show up late to your job. If you have the funds I would look for another car if possible.
Ya and Mokulele rapes FOs on pay. Guy could be making 30-40k as a Commercial Instrument pilot but he took the first job offer he got. Can't blame him, he wants the hours but I wouldn't have been so eager to jump into one of the most expensive liberal states with a job that pays minimum wage. Fuck that.
Daytona Sixty-Eight the state he is working in has no bearing. Think he took the job because he is young and had the opportunity. He also is flying with his captain friend and is learning a lot. I think at this point he should look into working for a regional airline on the mainland that fly’s smaller jets. They are looking for new pilots now and the pay for FO is good. Not sure if he has enough hours put he would have to be willing to be based in not so pretty states in the rust belts where winters are cold.
Uhh the state he is working in absolutely has bearing. He lives there part time so the cost of living of that area comes with that. Labor laws to the locality and state apply as well. This applies for any job. You need to put the pipe down buddy and think logically.
Yo man I’m only twelve and you are making me want to be a pilot I hope that’s what I can do when I’m older it looks so fun love your vids man you are my favourite youtuber and pilot 😜 you’re my inspiration

Good to see you back Swayne! Awesome informative video! Hope your car will hold out for a while yet! Always happy, friendly skies flying! Mark in Iowa.
Great video and like so many jobs, there is a lot of repetitive drudge, but your office window is a whole lot better than 99.9% of any CEO's window. I know the feeling of having a vehicle like that, I had an old CJ7 when I was stationed in Pearl and loved it...it gets you from point A to point B but sometimes you get an F...Gotta learn the bus routes... I’ve heard that flight instructing is still the quickest way to build 1500, but this seems the busiest flight schedule ever. And more enjoyable with the scenery
awesome b-roll! and thank you for showing what being a commercial pilot is really like. I've been thinking about leaving corporate life to follow my dream of flying for a career!
I’m going to Hawaii this summer and going to be hopping some islands, my dad is a private pilot and flys the diamond da-40 but we want to try mokulele air, hope we get you as a pilot!
If you’re seeing this comment shayne, I think I had you as my pilot from Oahu to Molokai! I’m born and raised from hawaii and I believe I saw you at mokulele!

Swayne, it’s been a joy to watch your career from afar. I enjoy the personal stories you tell about all the people you have met on your journey - those friendships are priceless. I thought Rod and Haley flew for Shrimp Basket in Gulf Shores. Why did they join Mokulele? Cool that you can fly with your friends. Have their flying goals changed?
I love your videos. I am 16, solo on a glider and I will finish my highschool in 2 years. I am thinking of a breakyear do travelling and get my ppl/cpl somewhere. I would love to fly for Mokulele. Cheers from Holland!
I love your videos. They have been very inspirational in my quest to be an airline pilot. I am 17 with my Multi- Instrument ticket and have flown over 300 hours in the last year and half. My goal is to have over 500 hours by my 18th birthday, when I take my commercial check ride. Amanda Vogt
If he keeps this up, upgrades and moves to a Regional in two years he’ll make a 100k. Five years after that he’ll be at 200k at a Major as a senior FO. Captain pay in his 15th year at a Major he’ll make 300k. Doing the job you love you’ll never work a day in your life. Not bad, Swayne.😬
Bigc208 those numbers are not real. It will take so much longer to make 300k if he ever makes that. I stopped flying 10 years ago when I found out that as a pilot I would qualify to receive food stamps. I wanted to be an airline pilot but decided to cut my dream short before I would starve.
Not very sure if EASA is right or not forbidding passengers flights with single engine planes ... And besides flying over seas, high wing plane ... not my best scenario... but definitely a pure joy !!!!
You're doing great!! Get some PIC time as soon as you can but also make sure you get some multi time too. When you want to make the jump to a regional you'll need it. It's a long road to tow but you're on the way. Any questions, hit me up. And be careful of the FAA with these vids BTW
As a professional pilot operating under a Scheduled Airline's rules, there are very strict rules about the use of electronic devices as well as even talking among each other regarding non-flight related items when below 10,000ft or cruising altitude. The problem with the FAA is they see things only as black and white and will happily try to violate a pilot based on something from RUclips. As an aspiring pilot, you do not want to have to defend this record when you go for an interview at a major airline (most pilots flying this type of operation aspire to do just that).
Thanks for your great videos Swayne, I think I’ve seen pretty much all of your videos, from your beginning flying small single engine props like the Cessna 172. It’s great inspiration for us who want to become airline pilots! It’s a hard path but totally worth it. I migrated to the US just a few years ago and it hasn’t been easy to afford flying, but I’m finally working on my IFR rating, and your videos help me stay motivated to achieve this goal! Keep the great work. 👍
When you have a headset that costs more than your car...
