While it wasn't easy to get approval for this kind of filming around airline operations (especially in the cockpit), I know how important it is for all of you who are dreaming to become professional pilots to see this view. When I was a young student pilot, I remember how it felt to watch videos about the career I dreamed of.... Simply put, the videos kept me motivated! I want you to walk away from these videos with the same feeling. If you've ever wanted to become an airline pilot, let me know what you want to learn about the career in the comments below. Much more to come soon! Thanks for checking it out guys!
WOW!!! Swayne! What an amazing, motivating and inspiring video! Well done my friend! You got me hooked to do a similar video about my experience flying the Boeing 747! Keep it up dear colleague! Its time we meet up for a collaboration!
I clicked so fast and I am so excited! Edit: Just finished watching this video and have to say, Swayne, each and every video you upload inspires me a little more. I have a watched you since you began in Hawaii. After that first video, I knew I wanted to be a pilot. Thanks so much Swayne for your videos, looking forward to many more in the future.
Thanks Eli! I'm so glad you've been enjoying the videos. My whole goal is to show off how amazing this career can be... So I'm glad it's helping you out.
@@SwayneMartinPilot Ah, to be in my 20s again! Fantastic video and I have enjoyed watching your videos. I see you got a shout out from @Captain_Joe, his videos are very good as well. Keep up the good work. I fly AA out of IND frequently and usually fly through ORD, CLT, or DFW. DFW on mainline, CLT on either OH or YX, and ORD on MQ. Keep up the good work.
First of all I want to give American Airline/Envoy a huge shout out for believing and allowing you to present the important behind the scene of what it takes to be a regional pilot with Envoy. Envoy if you read this please allow Swayne to continue his videos with your airline. They done in a very professional manner and very informative. Based on this past videos that Swayne has showed with Envoy, Im pushing myself to hopefully be a Envoy pilot one day. Thank Swayne for you great videos and thank you Envoy. Hope to see more videos. Ps : huge thanks to the training Captains that allowed the video taping in the cockpit
Amazing job getting the approval to create this highly useful piece of content! With the shortage, everyone is scrambling at information, and you have put together a perfect price. Keep up the great work helping the next generation of aspiring pilots🤙🏻
This is purely inspirational. I've been following for a long time and I feel that it was just the other day you had your first solo and now your already flying for the Regionals. Thank you for sharing all the experiences so far and in the future as I am a high school Junior and only hope to get into the right hand seat as quick as you. Keep it up!
It's amazing watching you on your journey from a student to a professional pilot. Over 6 years, you documented all of your experiences and it really helps new pilots like me get a feel for the career. I thank you for doing these things and congratulations!
Amazing video. There’s no way to say enough good things about the video and what it will do to encourage people to join the aviation industry as a pilot.
Very good video Martin!!! Your definitely making it happen and allowing thousands of people to dream about their future. Keep up the great work buddy. Blue Skies.
Great video Swayne! Good luck with your career. I remember how excited I was when I checked out on the 727 with Delta. I was a Line Check Airman (LCA) not too long after. In the USAF we had our IOE and after that when you checked out as an AC (aircraft commander, same as Captain in the airlines) you went on a 5 or 6 day line mission. This included an ocean crossing and legs "down-range". That meant not to Italy, Spain or the UK but to Egypt, the Mid-East or Sub-Saharan Africa. A long time to have an LCA watching over you. Here's fuel for debate- 125 miles out of ATL we reduced power for a descent from FL350 to FL 240. The left engine shuttered violently and quit. The other pilot was reaching for the mic button to tell ATC and I said let's wait a bit. Sometimes you need help and need to tell ATC right away, not this time. After all it was an idle thrust descent. We ran the checklists, briefed the flight attendants, made a PA a sent an ACARS message to company. That was done as we prepared to level at 240 at which time we announced our malfunction to ATC and declared an emergency. ATC as expected wanted to help and needed the usual info. We calmly replied and could converse without putting them off as we tried to run our checks amid a barrage of calls and inquiries. Weigh in guys and gals! Happy landings.
Congratulations Swayne! While I've been a pilot for ages, my career path took me into air traffic control at LA Center and SoCal TRACON. I was forced into retirement due to old age (56), but now I'm picking up my flying again. This was an excellent video, and parallels ATC training, with the stress, anxiety, and sense of relief (and for me, disbelief) that here I was doing a dream job and getting paid for it. Hit me up if you are out this way, I'll set you up for a tour at SCT. That goes for the rest of the pilots here too. If ATC gives you a hard time, tell them Radar Queen (it's a long story) said to knock it off.
I have followed you sporadically for a number of years. I just had an epiphany.... I resented you and I apologize sincerely. You have earned your way into that right seat , by sucking it up , studying diligently and maturing . Like my former profession , your’s ( Aviation) typically eats their young and spits them out. High attrition, burnout , stress , circadian rhythm disturbances leads many to just move into something easier. A great read I highly recommend is “ Squawk 7700 “. A young man went to an Aviation Bachelors program , Freight Dog and eventually ended up in a regional that stuck him in Puerto Rico for his IOE etc. ..... Fortunately for you , your strong vision for your goal has un wavered and you succeeded. I congratulate you Sir on this huge milestone. SFMF
I'm 13 this is my dream but I cant do it. My family doesn't have much money for school also they think the schedule is bad. I love the videos keep them coming. My family took me to the air force museam a few days ago in Ohio it was amazing I love planes.👍
original patrick if you push yourself and work harder than you’ve ever worked before you could go to a military academy and get the best flight school for free
Amazing, just utterly amazing. Swayne we watched you go from a ppl college student to now an airline pilot! Great job, well deserved. The videos you are making are phenomenal and we greatly appreciate you putting them out. I hope you continue this in the future and continue being an inspiration to all.
Hello Swayne! I've just started flying lessons while you are flying commercial aircraft! Hopefully you'll be my training captain in the future! Congrats!
No matter your financial situation- it’s possible. Sure it may be a whole lot easier going into it with easily sourced funds (wealthy/well off parents) but it is what you make of it. I’m sure if you want it bad enough you will find a way ✈️
Once you get to a mainline company (delta American united) it will make you so much money. Like 100k-350k per year. Just like any job you have to build up to it.
Never thought you'd end up flying with Envoy, when I started watching your videos I was dead set on going to Envoy and some of my best instructors actually fly for them now! My plan now is to fly for Republic Airways and Im dead set on it. Im super excited to get there, just finishing up my commercial currently and I'll be one step closer to the airlines! These videos are great tho, I always wanted to do something like this but I domt have the knowledge, experience or ever materials to do this so I put that off to the side. I hope to one day gain a social media following to inspire people to follow their dreams the way you do with your videos, keep up the good work! I'll see you you on the main line one day! Btw you should def visist colleges with Envoy recruiters, I'd love to meet you!
Another great video Swayne! You have quickly become an asset to Envoy not only with your aviation skills but now recruitment! These are incredible times of huge pilot demands and your video is such a sincere portrayal of a new hire's journey to becoming a line pilot. I'm sure it won't be long before I see your smiling face on an Envoy ad in the FB feed! Great job man. Safe flying.
Congratulations Swayne! I'm really happy for your great accomplishment. I've been watching your videos since you were just flying for Mokulele and it inspired me so much to work hard so that I could be like you! Well deserved. Looking forward to watching more awesome videos just like this in the future. :)
I'm also a pilot (a "little" different, lol, I flew a vintage torpedo bomber (N337VT), well...that was before a big mishap this year). Anyway, at the holiday here, I just wanted to let you know that these are all fantastic. I watch each and every new release as soon as your notification comes out. You are very inspiring for the younger kids coming up, my hat is off to you. Very inspiring - Never disappoints. Merry Christmas to you Swayne, and to yours!!
Although my flying is limited to the Boeing 747-400 in the simulator, I always tried to hand-fly the plane as much as I could. On a short flight from New York to Boston and back, I could easily do the entire flight by hand.
3:11 Encouraged to fly by hand. Good advice. So you don't fly a perfectly serviceable 777 into the sea wall on a bright sunny day at SFO when the ILS is out.
Hi Capt I have one Question , is the Typerating for ERJ 135 , 145 and Legacy 650 are same . So if we do any one Typerating of those then we are eligible to fly all three variants..?
You need a functional A/P in RVSM airspace for cruise and level changes, but you may Hand Fly prior to reaching your cruise altitude within the RVSM airspace correct?
If you don't mind me asking How much you making, how long will it take you to pay off your debt. Is the amount of training that goes into being a pilot overly exhausting and difficult? I'm in my 40's haven't been in school for a while, only have high school and trade school with a 65% average Do you work days, nights and graveyard shift, do you rotate? Thanks again for the content
Thanks so much for sharing your experience :) I have a question about IOE. During IOE, is the cockpit's jumpseat empty? or an experienced first officer is always seated? Back in my country(South Korea) during IOE flight, an experienced first officer is seated in the jumpseat.
Coming up in the world, eh? No more island hopping. Don't let it go to your head!.......Keep your feet on the ground......Oh, wait!......If you did that you couldn't do your job!
From a CRJ 145 captain with delta I wanna wish you nothing but success, it would be an honor to fly with you one day. I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now and I have to say CONGRATULATIONS YOU MADE IT! ever in Chicago lets get lunch.
Hello captain!! How you?? My name is carlos and I am brazilian citizen and I have been following your video on youtube in order to improve my aviation english. I am a phenom 300 pilot. Good job that you have been make for us. In brazil, I trying to get the icao grade. Here, the test is very complicated. Gos bless you!! Have good winds! Bye
My first pure jet was ioe IAH-CDG as a FO on a DC-10. Turboprop until then, the RJ thing was just starting. Nice video series you have. Retired 4 years ago CAL/UAL Capt.
Congrats Swayne, AWESOME video, but I believe that the biggest accomplishment is that now you are a real commercial pilot congratulations! Keep the videos coming
Nice video, I’m in the middle of upgrade OE for the B737. Always a good day when you’re officially on the line. I flew the ERJ at XJT, will never forget the gust lock haha.
Aer Lingua in Ireland is looking for people serious snd passionate about a professional career. They will pay for all your training ($70-110k) abd take you from 0 hrs to 600 and into the RT seat as an FO in an A320/21 in under 2 yrs. You then must fly for them 6 or 7 yrs mininum.
I can’t believe you visited Pensacola, my hometown airport. I know the taxiways like the back of my hand. And especially that it was your first real flight... Thank you so much for this video, it’s been my dream since I was 7 to become an airline pilot.
Good luck and brace for the regional ops! NYC airspace is a handful during winter. I’m sure you’ll do great, though, but I bet you’ll be missing Hawai’i quite a bit.
A First Officer at a regional airline will make about 45K. With 5 years of experience, you should be able to make captain; captains make about 90K for regionals.
You do a very good job with these videos. I do notice very young pilots like you'll these type of aircraft. Your videos will make me feel more confident when aboard the regional jets flying between MIA and JAX. Don't take this as an insult but you some of you look like you are 18.
The acronym CAM no longer belong to just a Cockpit Area Microphone itself... We will see many CAMeras inside the cockpit to be randomly used by inspectors/training programs to check if the pilots words matches their actions...
Hey Swayne, thanks for the video. I have mixed emotions currently regarding pursuing a flight career. I’ve heard terrible things about the regional airlines. I’m scared I’ll invest tons of money in getting my commercial and then burning out while trying to make the direct flow to American Airlines. Any realistic advice would be much appreciated.
I earned both my masers and PhD at UND Aerospace. I am sure we were there at the same time. Did our paths cross? Who knows? You would have ran into me either in Human Factors or Dr. Jensen's altitude chamber fun (I drove the chamber as part of my grad assistant). Good luck.
What a cool and great day for you!!!!! Congratulations to you...Happy Holidays to you....Now you will start to see the travel industry in general..Your Flight Crew is important as well. The "A" / "Lead"Flight Attendant is important as well. The person will give you your coffee or tea and your meals as well..Now that you are apart of the flight team and having your schedule to work you are apart of a great industry...Well, please fly safe always and enjoy your new career!!!!
AP used to be a luxury now it's really a just ho hum part of flying. AP should be disabled on flights of 2 hrs or less. And AND rotate crew continually through 2 hr or less legs and other type aircraft they are rated for. Routine kills. That's what creates failure. Routine.
Getting use to information was good for me..And yes, the First Officer or Caption would print out information from the (FMS) Flight Management System that we can us..Continue to fly safe...And please enjoy...
what to do after 12 class to become pilot? i am not sure i m correct please read and reply after 12 class go to flight school after completing flight school get privet pilot licence work for 1500 flight hours and get a300 plane licence am I correct? please reply
proud new subber here. would you be so kind as to explain the emphasis on automation? seems like in most every approach the a/p is engaged until jus before touchdown. are you folks required to hand fly, say, a cat-II ILS in the sim? it almost seems like airplane makers are tryin to turn pilots into monitors as opposed to pilots. whats your take? God bless and God speed to you and your career!
Swayne awesome videos! Great aerial photography! Hope to be back at the airlines soon! Dealing with Lyme disease and gut issues that need clearing up. You have no idea how lucky you are!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. Food for my dreams while I get my finances sorted. Have you ever met any Pilots that went to Spartan? Envoy is supposed to be partnered with that school and I'm wondering what kind of reputation they have as far as the quality of pilots they graduate. Thanks!
I became trained by the people of Mogadishu as a Turkish group, and I have nothing to do with the pain-killers who hold them responsible Turkish destroyed by them I do not want Turkish Airlines This is a very secret do not tell anyone
Idk if you'll see this but once your through IOE and flying as a first officer are you still encouraged to fly by hand or once your through do you use autopilot my often then not? My dream has been to become a pilot but the only thing I didn't like is I though that autopilot would be used more than me actually flying. It would really helped if you answered. Thanks!!
Swayne, congratulations, very inspiring video. Did you already have a multi engine rating? All the previous videos were in single engine props. Thanks.
I know this was a year ago, but if only I knew you flew to Pensacola, I would’ve loved to meet up with you and ask you about airline pilot life cause I’m currently an A&P student
This video helped me alot. Thanks for working hard on getting the approval for filming. Wish more videos like this one would be available as it do help us aspiring Aviators. :)
Hey @swaynemartin I really want to become a pilot my hole Life I was born with the passion I really don’t want to explain my Pass right here I just really want to become a pilot. Please help me 🤞🙏
I want to be an airline pilot so bad. I am 26, married with two kids and am currently a paramedic. If only I could do the academy. It will be a challenge to figure the path out. Anybody else a parent?
Great videos, I am about to take my first flight in a GA airplane and I hope to become a UPS pilot could you make a video started from getting ur pilot and all the way to getting on with envoy just to clear up you training and all the jobs you’ve had? It would help clear up the path you took so I can plan my path a little better

From a CRJ 145 captain with delta I wanna wish you nothing but success, it would be an honor to fly with you one day. I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now and I have to say CONGRATULATIONS YOU MADE IT! ever in Chicago lets get lunch.
What about the FINANCIAL concerns with all this training Swayne? 🤷🏻♂️🤪$$$$ Yikes! I’ll stick to flying jets in xplane11🤘😬
Congratulations! You've put in a lot of work to get this far. I'm happy for you!
Congratulations Swayne. Your dream just came true. What an amazing accomplishment. I am very proud of you. Welcome to the Big Leagues!!! Cheers, Will
I can’t believe you visited Pensacola, my hometown airport.
Great video! First I have seen of Flight ops in a EMB145. I have 10 hours SIM time in one of those. Thanks for sharing your IOE experience.
Wow. All of it seems very complicated. However, that’s what years of training is for. Hopefully I’ll get the hang of it.
Can you ADD more vids and LONGER VIDS please? I know you are busy but your channel is wicked AWESOME!...
The person will give you your coffee or tea and your meals as well..Now that you are apart of the flight team and having your schedule to work you are apart of a great industry...Well, please fly safe always
and enjoy your new career!!!!
And don't forget the line captains you will fly with have much experience you can glean from, this is a job in which you are always learning.
what to do after 12 class to become pilot? i am not sure i m correct please read and reply
after 12 class go to flight school

and get a300 plane licence
am I correct?
please reply
proud new subber here. would you be so kind as to explain the emphasis on automation? seems like in most every approach the a/p is engaged until jus before touchdown. are you folks required to hand fly, say, a cat-II ILS in the sim? it almost seems like airplane makers are tryin to turn pilots into monitors as opposed to pilots. whats your take? God bless and God speed to you and your career!
Swayne awesome videos! Great aerial photography! Hope to be back at the airlines soon! Dealing with Lyme disease and gut issues that need clearing up. You have no idea how lucky you are!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. Food for my dreams while I get my finances sorted. Have you ever met any Pilots that went to Spartan? Envoy is supposed to be partnered with that school and I'm wondering what kind of reputation they have as far as the quality of pilots they graduate. Thanks!
how many seats are on this jet ????????????????????
The erj 140 has 44 seats and the 145 has around 50.
I became trained by the people of Mogadishu as a Turkish group, and I have nothing to do with the pain-killers who hold them responsible Turkish destroyed by them I do not want Turkish Airlines This is a very secret do not tell anyone
Whooaaa!!! Nice to see you m8! it would be awesome to be a pilot! I cant wait for flight academy! Currently Im a highschool student.
Thanks!!
I’m looking to start flight school in Chicago soon, I’ve been doing research but also want to know if anyone has any recommendations?
Just wanna say that, your such an inspiration for aspiring pilots,,,,watching your vids since your in hawaii,,,,,,,,i wanna follow your foot steps
Hello again thanks for replying to my Instagram dm : ))
Swayne, congratulations, very inspiring video. Did you already have a multi engine rating? All the previous videos were in single engine props. Thanks.
yeaahhh, congrats bro
I know this was a year ago, but if only I knew you flew to Pensacola, I would’ve loved to meet up with you and ask you about airline pilot life cause I’m currently an A&P student
Thanks for video! Inspiring! Wish you the best on that career path, please keep filming such amazing clips!

I want to be an airline pilot so bad. I am 26, married with two kids and am currently a paramedic. If only I could do the academy. It will be a challenge to figure the path out. Anybody else a parent?
Cockpit scenes filmed under part 91? I thought part 91 consists of non commercial flight ops?
Great videos, I am about to take my first flight in a GA airplane and I hope to become a UPS pilot could you make a video started from getting ur pilot and all the way to getting on with envoy just to clear up you training and all the jobs you’ve had? It would help clear up the path you took so I can plan my path a little better
This video motivate me a lot. I will be a airlinea pilot and I want to motivate futures pilots like you. Good flights and thanks for the videos. Remember you motivate a lot of people arround the world with your job.
