Going to buy that one again, for half the price of an i7 Surface Pro.
whats making me interested in the surface pro is two things there is a LTE version which fits me cause i really only use the internet for photos and email and LTE gives me internet access at all times or act as a backup internet option straight from the device. 2 - and cause it runs window 10; i can download programs like Norton to scan my computer to give me a ease of mind being able to clean my machine compared to the ipad pro. So, I've got the Surface Pro 4 with i7, 1tb SSD and 16gb RAM... it keeps over heating and shutting down while trying to edit 1080 video and even if in PS or LR extensively. great review! sure MS cheap out the IO, but it is still functional for what it is. when I had the SF Pro 2 there were no problems at with the lack of extra ports. This is a compact all in one hybrid tablet/notebook, not a full blown laptop. one thing I wish that MS didn't do is dropping the pen... being already at a premium price, it makes it tough to spend more for accessories that you use regularly.
Hoping that I get an answering!!! Can I connect a microsoft surface pro to a drawing tablet? I know crazy questions. But how I see it, if I'm at a shoot, I don't want the clients touching the screen (sometimes, they do) I would want them to touch the drawing tablet. I don't need the keyboard. I just need something to show the clients the image as I shoot them. Hoping that this tablet will work. If you have anything idea, please let me know.
As an Apple consumer since 1983, I still use Windows for certain software, and I'm hoping to see improvements in the next release; whatever it may be called. The Surface Pro ??? seems pricey for what it is. I mean, I don't think you mentioned what version of the Surface Pro you have there e.g. 4 or maybe the 5? Anyway, for $2700 w/o a pen and keyboard, I'd rather apply the $$$ towards a Panasonic ToughBook.
Mouse pad and track pad are two different things. Mouse pad is a sheet you place under a mouse so that you can move the mouse smoothly. Track pad is the input device built in to the laptops and that surface pro keyboard you are reviewing.
HELP! I have the microsoft pro notebook and am trying to use the record feature. It won't let me record a single video longer than three hours. Is there any way around this so I can record for unlimited duration assuming I have the capacity to store it?
Hi, i just want to know if this new surface pro tablet will be ideal for video editing, as well as 3D and 2D animation, with programs like Maya, flash animation, etc? Or should i perhaps wait for the new Microsoft surface studio computer?
ewwmustardcake I would suggest going against the surface pro for those purposes. While for photographers and artists a touchscreen and pen is very useful, you won't find yourself using the few advantages the surface has over another laptop. Unless you really need the touch screen or the portability I'd go with a much more powerful laptop. I have the Dell Inspiron 7559 with a i7 6700HQ, 16gigs of ram (upgraded from 8) and a 512 SSD (upgraded DIY) and the 1tb HD it came it. I can edit 4K without problems and do most 2D animation. I haven't done a ton of 3D renders to give a rating but it would do exceptionally well for a laptop. The total cost is around $1.1-1.2k
No, no tablet or laptop is actually a good video editing machine. Nobody working professionally uses these things for video. Stills works, but not video. -I mean, just looks at _all_ the specs of any device and you can easily understand what they are meant for and good at.
Alec Galicia Alec Galicia ooooh ok. Yeah i really need the touch screen as well particularly for digital drawing. I know they are making surface Pro studio which i feel would be ideal for my needs. But thanks for the feedback, i'll definitely looke into the Del inspiron!
ewwmustardcake I use a Wacom tablet (the cheaper Intuos) that works just as expected and connects fine. As Kurt said, professionally it isn't ideal but be careful because "professional" varies a lot. I'm pretty sure the whole MKBHD, Johnathan Morrison, and others edit with a mac laptop running final cut because it's optimized that well. Yes you can build a really good desktop but that takes hours of research and waiting for parts etc. which people don't consider. By the time you weigh all that out, the price between buying a prebuilt computer and your own is actually much closer than what people say. Back to the point, the Dell Inspiron has a few issues which is terrible battery life (I get around 2 hours or a bit more HOWEVER I only use power saver and I could save a lot of power by lowering the brightness among other things), can get pretty loud because of the fans, and the trackpad is meh but I've gotten used to it. Other than that, I can run 20+ tabs on Opera with three Adobe programs open and feel solid with no hiccups in terms of moving around. Obviously if I got into editing 4K or a large batch of RAW photos in Lightroom where I actually see my laptop slow down the most, I'd close apps and such but for the price it's a champ and I can carry it around no problem and don't have to be tethered except I'd definitely plug in whenever possible. ALSO the screen is not very accurate which is very important for this kind of work. I suggest you look into the Dell XPS series which is a lot more expensive for the same specs but comes with a color accurate screen and a much slimmer footprint. I use an LG widescreen monitor ($250) that is accurate enough for my work. It is a tiny bit more contrasted but you may be able to get it closer with a proper calibration device. The main problems with the laptop screen was that it's too contrasted in the shadows and colors are just not finely tuned. Definitely would recommend an external monitor but I enjoy using the laptop to do basic edits and set up so when I get home and plug in I get right to work!
Guys, need your help which one ☝️ is the most convenient and easy to travel 🧳 laptop 💻 for impromptu video editing? Long battery 🔋 life and no problem/issues at all. 🙂
I looked at the Surface Pro 6 as a possible Lightroom and Photoshop editing machine for when I am abroad. I found that the HP Spectre X360 Laptop had a FAR better spec for the same money. 4K touchscreen. Pen INCLUDED, not extra. But the major plus was BUILD QUALITY. OK, so it is heavier, but it is really solidly built and is not going to break easily. I7 processor running at 3.1GHz, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM and it flies on LR and PS, for around £500 less than the equivalent Surface Pro!!!!!
vs Radhika Creations Not in my opinion, but everyone to their own. The Surface Pro 6 with the same processor and 500GB SSD was a whopping £400 more than I paid, but only has a 12.3” screen compared to the Spectre’s 15.6”, plus the HP Spectre X360 is a full 4K display over 1.5 times the resolution of the Surface. I’m sure you’ll agree that for photo editing a larger screen with higher resolution is better.
I have the i5 and it is terrible for Lightroom and photo edits. You need at least an i7 with the Iris GPU. The i7 would rock for photo or video edits. Im debating between the new Surface Pro i7 or Macbook Pro 13".
So next year the 8th gen i5 and i7 series are coming out for ultrabook (u series), and will be true quad core. However, I cant wait another year, so I bought a New 2016 Macbook Pro 13" i5 2Ghz, 8GB Mem, 256SSD, non touch bar, and Iris Pro 540. The GPU is just good enough for Lightroom and also light gaming. Next year, I will get the 8th gen, with 16GB Mem, and 512SSD. I looked at the razor, asus, alienware, xps, and none had the lightweight and body build that the macbook pro has. I also have a gaming machine at home with 32GB Mem and 1080ti, so the laptop is primarily for portability with functionality.
Some good insights onto the usability of the product, but you need to stop saying there's nothing else like it. There are literally 5-10 others like it. All of the major competitors have a clone with very similar specs. I just got the Lenovo miix 720 I stead because it has a thunderbolt port and comes with the pen and keyboard included. Dell, Acer, Asus, HP, etal. Make their own version with their own pros and cons
Ive owned the pro 4 and LOVED it but wouldn't recommend it for video editing of any kind. Its not designed for it. Note taking, on the go stuff, office, web browsing, photo editing even photoshop, hell yes. The pen is AWESOME but remember this only has onboard graphics and NOT a dedicated GPU and only a dual core CPU so it will do video editing but not very well
Adhi Suryana I don't think these are as good as the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro yet. They are good but no where near as good yet. Windows 10S is awful but Windows 10 Pro is much better. I honestly love MacOS High Sierra. Apple future proof their devices. So Apple has USB type C. Apple gets fewer viruses. Apple machines stay lightning quick for years. Apple machines have a great echo system. Apple machines look sexier. IOS 11 will make the iPad's 10 times more useful. Windows will continue to remain the dominant system due to its lower barrier of entry/cost. Windows Laptops have massively improved. Windows is onto a winner if it keeps improving at the rate it is. Hopefully all the feedback from RUclips will help also.
I use the mx trackball with my laptop, sits in my bag until I need to use it and all I have to do is turn it on. Definitely worth it despite being expensive.
When the new MacBook Pro was 1500 I wanted one of these. Now it's 1500 for a good one of these plus extra for keyboard and pen while a MacBook Pro is 1200......
Can someone just answer the easy question of Adobe Lightroom? Can this run it well or not... if you know the answer because you have used it before then let us know.
thanks a lot for your video.... I'm considering buying this surface Pro as soon as I could... and, maybe, using a small hub for USB ports, that could allow me to have 2 or 3 usb items in the same time.. Tanks !!!
you don't buy a dual core processor system for video editing. Even if you want power on the go, buy a quad core laptop. I don't really see a reason for any videographers to switch from a laptop like Dell XPS 15 to this.
A gloosy screen on any laptop/ tablet means it is a fail .Glossy screens reflect light, mat screens don't. All screens should be mat by default. So why does a top of the range item like this have a defective screen(glossy)? .. because glossy screens are cheaper than mat to produce. I despair! Bring back 4:3 ratio mat screens.
Great Video! I've been considering buying one of these mainly because iv'e been pretty frustrated with my iPad for on the go photo or even light video editing recently. I'm going between this and a Dell xps. The surface is just is so attractive to me and I like the idea of having a pen for some reason.
Great review. You touched on the things that I've been wondering about, so I appreciate it. BTW, touch pads are WAY better than mice anyway... learn to get used to the onboard touch pad and you'll be fine. ;-)
Next time. Please add time stamps :) thanks. / it's frustrating that anything about video editing is 9mins in. Your title communicates Photography & Video as a selling point, yet it's so lost in all of the other things you've added in. Please consider this in future - I personally want the best for this channel, and i hope you do too. It's in your best interest to fix this
Meh. For the exact reasons you state at 12:00 is why these things are an abomination. MS has always continued to throw that same tired lipstick on that same fat ol' pig. If they re-designed and coded the OS from the ground up to work as both a desktop and touchscreen simultaneously, it would be a no brainer.
You could get a Mac, but there is the whole things about buying things you like and are comfortable with. Apple's OSs don't flow in the way that my mind thinks, so I'm someone who wouldn't be making that move despite being able to save few dollars.
Shift4g yeah that's a fair comment, so you could save yourself a heap more cash a get a top or the range windows laptop or a very high spec pc, both with touch screen. I only used the mac as reference to a premium product.
Sadchant you missed the point. The surface is drastically over priced. That's the point. For £2700 you can have mac book pro and an iPad Pro. Microsoft won't be selling large numbers of these at that price. It's too expensive.
For 2700 which includes an iPad Pro, you get a pretty weak and overpriced Macbook Pro and a tablet which cant to all things you want to do. So you have always carry two devices with you and switch all the time between them. With the Surface Pro you get just one device which does it all, which is pretty impressive with that price. And you dont have to go with the highest model lol, you get for 1600 a nice i5 and 256 gb storage surface pro with keyboard, while you get a 128 gb Macbook Pro for that price. And ouh you have no tablet than included and the Macbook has no touch or pen support. Sorry, but i think you are missing the point, not me.
Dwayne Mims Seems like a bad idea going for the i7. The thermal throttling and possible over heating makes it a poor choice. I'd go for the cheaper i5 model but do less intensive tasks on this machine. If you are going to go for lots of RAM and a good i7 Processor. This means you will be editing 4K videos or doing other tasks which tax the machine more. You should get a proper Laptop which is better for handling these tasks. A Laptop which handles temperatures better. Portability means worse performance. If you want performance. Go for something more chunky. So get an i5 Processor and small amount of Ram for computers like the Surface Pro 4, MacBook Air and others. These are the ultra slim design models. Get an i7 Processor and large amount of Ram on machines like MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, HP Spectre or Surface Book. If you want a juggernaut/beast of a machine. Then go for a desktop/all in one. The iMac, Surface Studio and other machines are good examples. You want lots of RAM and good processors in these machines. FYI - Apple performs better on lower specs than Windows machines. So don't let low spec Apple machines confuse you. They are just as capable if not more capable.
I prefer the new iPad Pro 12.9. Surface is not a tablet and is not a laptop. I don't understand what it is. I've tried the surface pro 4 i5 for six day and I've returned it, because the drawing experience was bad. The Apple Pencil with a iPad Pro, for me it's better and more stable. But its only my opinion.
Man $2700.00 is just far too much and totally not worth it. However I do personally love the surface Pro I have the surface pro 1 and 4. Just the max for this is crazy. I say stick with the base and the i5 model. Otherwise an i7 in my opinion is far too costly.

Filmora video editing is one. Pinnacle studios maybe that's another one.
Could also look into DaVinci resolve as it is free and an extremely powerful program.
So which is the computer that you recommend me, surface pro 5 vs Dell xps 13.3 ? Please let me know .
$2700 and you have to pay extra for the pen and keyboard??? Who are Microsoft kidding?!
I thought the pen on pro 7 is the same on pro 6 isn't it?
Hi why I run the photoshop cc 2020 it's so lag
and can you tell me how I can use the photoshop cc 20xx?
Anyone please explain the SD card reader. So it’s a special SD card You need?
Does a Surface Pro come with Editing Software? For film?
Good question
but why there's no thunderbolt 3 port ?
The pen can be fully functional on Surface Laptop as well?
Definitely would recommend an external monitor but I enjoy using the laptop to do basic edits and set up so when I get home and plug in I get right to work!
hey I need a large (but not bulky) laptop with capabilities for video editing and gaming. Must have an SD card slot. Any suggestions?
Is there any news about the LTE version?!
How the perfomance if we run a lower version of adobe photoshop, let say photoshop 7? Anybody have try it?
There has a microSD slot on the back, am I right? 0.o
Yes.
what about premiere pro on surface pro 7?
Is this a surface pro 4 or 5?
I love in depth reviews
Just like this guys
Not some crappy *its good its good* video
"About a week ago week ago..." xD
Microsoft surface pro 4 is best for professional editing?
vs Radhika Creations Not in my opinion, but everyone to their own.
But I want in low price..for professional editing.. . Im student only...
vs Radhika Creations Have a look at the Lenovo Yoga 530. I have one of them too and it runs Lightroom and PS fine. Cheaper than the Surface Pro 4 too.
Great review.
I have the i5 and it is terrible for Lightroom and photo edits. You need at least an i7 with the Iris GPU. The i7 would rock for photo or video edits. Im debating between the new Surface Pro i7 or Macbook Pro 13".
Eugene Paris what did you decide on going with?
Is dual core powerful enough for video editing? Im using davinci recolve.
Lol don't even bother... Try quad core atleast (w/ discrete gpu)
Would the version with the i5 processor and 8g RAM be good for editing music videos
@@LuLeBe and how is that for photoediting? Are there any problems with Raw format?
@@LuLeBe Great! Thanks! I'm still thinking about "i5" or "core m" version to buy, the price is a bit different..
How can you call it a workhouse when the CPU is only dual-core?
surface keyboard has been a engineering miracle since it exists
Is i5 8GB ram sufficient for photo and video editing?
Im not sure but videopad editing software with i5 uses 80% of the cpu for me so i feel like the i9/i7 or something in it would be better.
Can I connect another monitor to the surface pro?
Yes you can.
Is this a hdmi connection or something else?
www.microsoft.com/surface/en-in/support/music-photos-and-video/connect-surface-to-a-tv-display-or-projector?os=windows-10&=undefined
Thanks, man!
Ive owned the pro 4 and LOVED it but wouldn't recommend it for video editing of any kind. Its not designed for it. Note taking, on the go stuff, office, web browsing, photo editing even photoshop, hell yes. The pen is AWESOME but remember this only has onboard graphics and NOT a dedicated GPU and only a dual core CPU so it will do video editing but not very well
mouse pad? multichuch?
This product is aimed to Macbook air while Surface Laptop aimed to Macbook 2, so if it can do what Macbook pro does, it is very good thing
Adhi Suryana
I don't think these are as good as the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro yet.
Just use a Logitec MX Anywhere 2 mouse, and you dont have to use a dongle :) ports free for something else
Gunni Grahn yep. Killer little travel mouse with better ergonomics and functions than the surface mouse.
I use the mx trackball with my laptop, sits in my bag until I need to use it and all I have to do is turn it on. Definitely worth it despite being expensive.
anyone seen a video of surface + indesign?
When the new MacBook Pro was 1500 I wanted one of these. Now it's 1500 for a good one of these plus extra for keyboard and pen while a MacBook Pro is 1200......
And you get the m3 Macbook for that, with just one useless port, a terrible keyboard, no touchscreen and no pen support.
Can it manage 4k 60fps video editing?
He says in this video he did.
Can someone just answer the easy question of Adobe Lightroom? Can this run it well or not... if you know the answer because you have used it before then let us know.
How much is the surface pro cost
thanks a lot for your video....
I'm considering buying this surface Pro as soon as I could... and, maybe, using a small hub for USB ports, that could allow me to have 2 or 3 usb items in the same time..
Tanks !!!
I didn't hear him even once in 14 minutes say which Surface Pro model this is! The 5, 6, 7???
you don't buy a dual core processor system for video editing. Even if you want power on the go, buy a quad core laptop. I don't really see a reason for any videographers to switch from a laptop like Dell XPS 15 to this.
How much is that
Good review
A gloosy screen on any laptop/ tablet means it is a fail .Glossy screens reflect light, mat screens don't. All screens should be mat by default. So why does a top of the range item like this have a defective screen(glossy)? .. because glossy screens are cheaper than mat to produce. I despair! Bring back 4:3 ratio mat screens.
1.5x speed makes it much more enjoyable for me.
We need a review of the cheaper ones. Not the top.
Do you think i7 8 GB ram version can handle photoshop with no serious problem? or even i5 8 GB ram?
Ahmed Kanfer it would be fine
even the i5
thanx
Omg Of course I have and use SP3 and not problem except heat. The core i7 version
I use Surface Pro 2017 (256Gb, i5, 4GB RAM and still does fine
After almost 5 months r u still sticking to your opinion? Please let me know
suface pro what ? 6???
surface dock: can I get an amen? Amen!
I will get a iPad Pro with Affinity Photo, that is beyond. Photoshop is in our desktop anyway.
Great Video! I've been considering buying one of these mainly because iv'e been pretty frustrated with my iPad for on the go photo or even light video editing recently. I'm going between this and a Dell xps. The surface is just is so attractive to me and I like the idea of having a pen for some reason.
surface dock, that's what I need to get.
Kee Arun surface studio?
why would you review this unit with a guy who doesn't use the stylus for Photoshop
Ok, why review the highest tablet that most people won’t purchase if they have a desktop!
Exactly
Great review. You touched on the things that I've been wondering about, so I appreciate it.
BTW, touch pads are WAY better than mice anyway... learn to get used to the onboard touch pad and you'll be fine. ;-)
I thought beauty gurus are lucky enough they get sent free makeup. And here we have the "tech gurus" get sent free laptops. lol.
Have Apple updated their MacOs with touch and pen or iOS with mouse and file system ?
A very very nice tablet and if money is no object then it's great, but at that price you could get yourself MacBook Pro or top of the range iMac.
A Macbook Pro that has no touchscreen, no pen support and cant be a tablet. Come on...
Sorry, but i think you are missing the point, not me.
when do you think it's necessary to have the i7 processor vs the i5?
Dwayne Mims
Seems like a bad idea going for the i7.
So is this the full blown review?
you can get extra ports by buying a usb hub]
I prefer the new iPad Pro 12.9. Surface is not a tablet and is not a laptop. I don't understand what it is. I've tried the surface pro 4 i5 for six day and I've returned it, because the drawing experience was bad. The Apple Pencil with a iPad Pro, for me it's better and more stable. But its only my opinion.
Surface Laptop Review please?
Man $2700.00 is just far too much and totally not worth it. However I do personally love the surface Pro I have the surface pro 1 and 4. Just the max for this is crazy. I say stick with the base and the i5 model. Otherwise an i7 in my opinion is far too costly.
