Hey Lee, Patrick and Fstoppers team, Thanks so much for picking my photo for the winner of last month photo contest! I'm stoked! Just a quick question, How do I claim my prize? Is there a specific person or process I should follow? Thanks again! Best, Rio Nakayama
Not trying to brush it off, just mean it’s not the most insane investment you could make. In most cases you could always sell your product for cost and break even or even lose just a little. -P
As feedback I don't know if you read, I would go with the 1000 for the bibs because you can then modify your product faster based on market feedback. Whereas if you're 10,000 in it might take you a lot longer before you can respond to feedback with your product. Just a thought.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or maybe I just have a lot to learn, but... most the images picked for the video would not have even made my top 20 from the submissions. That's not a criticism, I'm just amazed at how different your picks were from mine.
17:50 I'm sorry but that statement is so incredibly misinformed. The pharmaceutical industry in Europe is incredibly large and produces boatloads of new compounds, with research funded locally and internationally. It's just that a lot of money spent in drug research in the US and in Europe is part of making a known compound with various properties into a new compound in order to take ownership of that compound. That way you can make whatever profits from the compound that you own. However in the US, your incredibly broken insurance system allows healthcare companies to charge stupid amounts of money for the same type of product to make profits, in order for insurance companies to pay out said stupid amounts to those companies, which they obviously try to deny as much as they can in order to make profits themselves. And obviously american healthcare companies spend a lot of money researching new compounds because they know that they can charge over the top prices for medicine that is generally cheap to produce. Global or european healthcare do not get a free ride from american research. The american taxpayers just pay the price for your incredibly broken system. Don't try and make this into something that it is not.
A few years ago the US government passed a law that said insurance companies have to spend 80% of their profits on their patients. Are you saying much or most of that payment is going right back to the drug companies? -P
Compounds? Maybe you are talking about chemical compounds but biological/DNA (biotech) medicine is NOT cheap to produce. Even after all the R&D, clinical trials, etc and the product is fully tested and approved, the process to create a single batch can take a month. That single batch might be a few hundred doses that also have a short shelf life. This is a complex subject for sure and how a company makes money on that product cannot be explained away by a “broken system” or greed.
@@kh1188ish Sure, certain medicines are not cheap to produce on the R&D level. But why does a guy need a "salary" of $10 million/yr, who hasn't done any biotech research himself? The The C-level executives are salesmen who lobby to change laws so THEY make more money. I have no problem with a CEO of a car manufacturer or whatever making $10M/year. But an insurance company that denies coverage to people dying so their margins let the execs buy yachts? Nah.
Perhaps with pharma but insurance has laws now that require them to pay 80% of profits back to patient care. I don’t know the details well but insurance companies themselves are less profitable than in the past because of this new legislation. -P

With the fire for the hot sauce ad, why not film two passes? One pass exposed to the flames and everything else underexposed, and then a second pass just with the normal lighting, then combine the two and tweak it in After Effects. If it's static it'll be easy, if there's motion you may have to use a motion control rig, and there are some pretty inexpensive rigs out there these days. Anyway, it's been quite a while since I've been active in the VFX industry so apologies if I got any technical stuff wrong.
Hey Patrick, those few minutes chatting about your LA visit to Jeff Beck guitars were great. I’ve lost your Facebook post that gave me the link 😬 Look forward to seeing more. Nice polar bear… except he’s got red chops from eating what he’s killed.
Edit: Just watched the video, Excited to watch the BTS of hotsauce photos and vids. Lee, will be you releasing the photoshoot and ad-shoot process of your hotsauce? They looked so interesting.
I went to David Gilmour’s guitar auction at Christie’s. Amazing to see the instruments that some of the best songs ever written (in my opinion) were born from! To actually play them though, that’s pretty insane! Beck was a genius.
What was the auction like? Were people bidding on everything like crazy or was it just the main guitars that went bonkers? Edit: Just look it up and every single Fender and Gibson guitar went for over $100,000. Geez, even the crappy guitars sold for $40-100k. -P
Hey Guys! Regarding the tutorial I won for the smartphone contest a little over two months ago. I haven’t received it yet and wanted to kindly follow up. Thanks!
It never ceases to surprise me how incredulous y’all are about how or why some photos are taken. The photo of the boy training pigeons was cool af it was planned obviously and was as much documentary as a great concept

And a final note about slack lining: when people slack line at elevation they always use safety gear, if you look closely at the hot air balloon slack line video you can see the tether that attaches his harness to the rope that he is walking on, zooming in on the slack line pic in this critique it appears that his tether is hidden blending in with his body but the loose second rope running parallel to the one he is walking on is part of safety system serving as a backup to the tensioned line, his tether should be clipped to both.

I like the random convos more than the photo critiques. It's like the covid days. Need put together a podcast.
Yeah we’ve gone back and forth on if these should be tighter and concise or longer with more of a podcast feel. This one wound up be the latter. -P
This episode brought to you by Shark Tank. 😂
To brush off the risk involved in a $30,000 investment risk is insane. To sell a bottle of 3 digit hotsauce is pretty wild too.

The slack liners are tethered to the slack line via a climbing harness with carabiners.

@18:24 the problem with this position is that the pharma people are still raking in billions in profits so the rest of the argument just falls away
