4:11 If you don't have the gold or don't want to spend the gold to buy exotic gear, the Heart of Thorns expansion Verdant Brink map's "Night Meta" gives you opportunities to get Bladed Armor Boxes, with tier 4 map "readiness/completion" for that night as well as getting 100% participation.
In addition, Verdant Brink has a map currency, Airship Parts, that can be used to buy every armor piece with only 1 gold and 500 parts except the chestpiece, which gives you a stat selectable level 80 exotic armor.
The chestpiece can be earned from the Wyvern Matriarch via the occasional bladed chestpiece box drop, or again in the bladed armor box (pick your item, not a specific armor piece) when you personally have max participation for the night meta with the map having reached tier 4 as a guaranteed drop.
Some exotic armor, such as Viper's gear (endgame condition damage stats), can be quite expensive, however the bladed armor boxes can save you plenty of gold while still giving those exact same stats. Plus, the skins look pretty good.
For exotic Berserker's (best in slot power gear), you can also look up the "named" armor sets. These are level 80 berserker only armor sets that cost significantly less money to buy off the trading post, and there's one for each armor weight. Buying these gets you endgame ready pretty quickly if you plan on playing a power damage build, and a power build overall helps you clear open world content a bit more quickly since you don't need to wait for conditions to do their damage.

    • @CaffeinatedDad

I always forget how fruitful the verdant brink zone is for heart of thorns! It's such a useful place to get you ready for endgame!

This is especially valuable info for altoholics....ask me how I know :) I have been away from the game for about 2 years, and decided to come back for a bit. Was looking at one of the OP's builds, and saw that it needed Celestial gear. Popped on to one of my alts to start the painful process of grinding airship parts on that character. When I checked my gear, I already had full Celestial on that toon haha. Win \m/

A tip for new players who are buying exotics off the trading post: DONT search for items by their stat name like in the video, youll only get the super expensive gear this way. Instead use the gear icon by the search bar, select the stats you want, exotic type and level! This way youll get the cheaper named gear with the stat you want!
As for my first character (and my main!), its a Female Norn Guardian that I made 10 years ago and have continued to play til this day :) She has seen it all lol

    • @Tankunish
      @Tankunish Год назад +9

@@deadvodka Unfortunately no :{ I did some research and you can find cheaper sets for stats like:
      - Berserker's (Zhed, Nika, and Devona)
      - Rampager's (Koss, Norgu, Aidan)
      - Marshal's ( Haimi, Salomon, Sagal)
      - Carrion's (Ogden, Shiro, Sheena)
      - Cleric's ( Rurik, Mhenlo, Zho)
      - Shaman's (Jalis, Reyna, Tahlkora)
      - Dire's (Jatoro, Yakkington, Errol)
The names in the parentheses are the named armor sets for the stat on the left. Its a interesting mix of stats and can cover for some of the more expensive stat names. All of these don't go over a gold so very cheap. However I did find some named stat pieces that are also pretty cheap:
      - Valkyrie's (50 silver to 2 gold)
      - Knight's (70 silver to 2 gold)
      - Cavalier's (60 silver to 2 gold)
      - Soldier's (60 silver to 3 gold)
      - Rabid's (60 silver to 2 gold)
      - Shaman's (60 silver to 2 gold)
      - Magi's (60 silver to 3 gold)
      These stats have more pieces worth silver but do have some pieces that dip in to the gold range. Hopefully this helps you to gear up til you can get some of those more expensive pieces :}

    • @deadvodka
      @deadvodka Год назад +4

@@Tankunish guess I'll have to keep farming up in Verdant Brink then, for the newer sets..
In case you, or someone reading this did not know: the Bladed Sets that you can buy from a vendor in Verdant Brink, can take on any stat-combination.
They cost 250 airship parts each, which can be earned from doing day or night events and from opening (large) airship cargos around the map with crowbars.
The gloves can drop from these as well, so you will find one or two while farming up for the rest.
The Torso is the only part you can not buy from a vendor, but it can be obtained as a drop from wyvern matriarch/patriarch or alternatively you get a box for participating 100% in the meta event and you can chose one armor part from it.
the thus necessary 1k airship parts is less than a full day/night cycle with events.

I have a tip for players who only want to unlock the first 3-4 mounts and then do the lvl 80+ content in the order it came out.
Don't spend all your mastery points to max out the first mounts because you might not have enough to unlock important masteries later that unlocks secret or hard to access locations. Like the ability to use sand portals with the jackal.
At the start you can get lots of mastery points easily but it gets harder unless you progress with the main story and visit the next map.

  • @tabe2278

    Female norn elementalist.
About that gear buying part, when you are buying exotic gear, don't search by name. Open the search filters next to the search bar, set lvl to 80-80, rarity to exotic and select the stats you need. After that set price ascending and you will most likely see a named armor/weapon that costs way less than the crafted versions.

The very first thing I did when I hit 80 with my first character was to unlock the mastery which let me auto loot enemies. Also a great suggestion is getting a foot into fractals (and the masteries belonging to them) for some steady gold income. Discovering the whole map (with the character I wanted to use for all the open world content) was also one of the first things I did. I think if you had honarable mentions, these three would be decent :) But I agree with your points aswell.

Ranger can be a very active class to play, but it definitely is also quite forgiving (Necro and Guardian are the other two).
I play my ranger quite actively, but it's a choice I can make, as opposed to other classes where it's not really a choice per se. And I love that. There are days when I just want to relax and I like that my class allows me to play slower than my normal, instead of having to switch to another class for the same effect.

      Hey, what are HP Trains?

    • @pezdiablito
      @pezdiablito 9 месяцев назад +3

@Farcon Hero Point groups that form in the expansion maps. Regularly in the Heart of Thorns maps, starting in Verdant Brink. The Commander will lead the group to each HP fight or commune, to gain the points. As a group, it's easier to take down the Champions.
You must have the Raptor mount and basic Gliding.
The groups move fast, so you have to pay attention to chat and the Commander's icon.
Each HP is 10 points, whereas core Tyria HPs are only one.
It makes gaining specializatoins so much faster, and you get a good start on the maps if you haven't done the storyline yet. You do still need to buy the expansions to be able to "teleport to friend" once you join the group.
You'll see advertisements in map chat when a train is getting ready to depart. Usually in the Lion's Arch map and the home world maps. The Groups limit is 50, and they fill up fast.
      Good luck, have fun.

I'm rather new to this game myself and one of the things I saw that really touched me is I was at a hero point in a HoT map and I had to eat the bacon and it did damage to me every second for 60 seconds. Had to survive to get the points. There were multiple people just standing there healing players there eating the bacon. Like, this is something they didn't have to do at all, yet here they are. It really made me realize that there are some pretty awesome people in this game. I don't think I've had a bad moment yet, everyones been super helpful when I ask about metas or events with gatherings and stuff. 10/10 community so far!!

I believe that new players will be selling themselves short if they do not do gliding and Heart of Thorns first. These maps are designed for gliding and it is incredibly satisfying to spend time in the air.
A new player will not lament the absence of a raptor when they are having so much fun soaring through the canopy! And the time spent in HoT will deeply imprint the skill so that it is used more effectively throughout the rest of the game.
I see many players ignoring updrafts (on HoT and non-HoT maps) and trying to navigate vertical terrain using skyscales and bunnies even when updrafts are available and more appropriate for the situation.
The HoT maps remain very active and new players will find lots of help as they learn.
Finally, gliding is much faster to acquire than the other mounts, especially the skyscale and gryphon!

    My list would be like:
1.) IF you didnt it within leveling -> *Buy 18-slot silk bags* .
Actual price _(to be fair almost permanent)_ is 2,5g/bag _(20-slot cost 12g/bag)_ ,so after 5 days of dailies, you have all 4 bags.
2.) *Buy the CHEAPEST exotic gear* for your build.
For example (stats: power+prec+ferocity) : Zhed's coat cost 32silvers and Berserker's light antique coat cost 2,21g - both have same stats+armor.
If you buy all 6 pieces Zhed's set, you pay 2 golds, but for Berserker's set 13 golds - different 11golds is a lot. For saved golds you can buy rings, amulets and accessories.
3.) *Reach 60% crit chance* in stats.
_Fury_ buff give you rest 40% crit chance and to have 100% crit chance is big deal.
    4.) *Enjoy the story* .
Its good to do HoT, then PoF, then EoD expansions because on way to progress through story you do unlock gliding, mastery points and mounts without forcing self to do that.

There is space for just allowing yourself to explore the game with just the raptor mount, or with none at all. The game is tailored for a lot of exploration. There's a lot of contexts and lore that are provided through random NPC conversations, interactable objects, and just lots of hidden things that you won't stumble into if you're just constantly breezing through everything.
So though I think getting the mounts is nice (and important in certain contexts, such as keeping up with events, etc.), I would also urge new players to give themselves time to experience the world a little better.

I might be in the minority here, but I’m not a big fan of playing the maps and story out of order like this. The most amazing aspect of Guild Wars’ horizontal progression to me has been the way everything seems to build upon itself, especially the mounts and related masteries. The mounts are obviously incredibly fun and useful, but I don’t think I would’ve appreciated them nearly as much had I not had to tackle the Heart of Thorns maps with just the glider.
I know not everyone cares about the story either, but I enjoy at least having some context about the maps I’m playing in. The story provides the “why” certain events are happening on the maps and without it I would just feel like I’m just involving myself in a bunch of random stuff that doesn’t mean anything.
Just by naturally progressing through the game in its order of release, completing maps and participating in map metas, I already had enough gold for the griffon, with some to spare, by the time I reached that point in the game.
I know playing this way is not super efficient compared to the video, and I also know there’s no wrong way to play the game :) just figured I’d mention that taking your time without focusing on unlocking everything in the most efficient order is also an enjoyable option.

Oh absolutely! I suppose where this idea came from was because I've had alot of people who are just like let's get this done, I want my mounts first and I don't care for the story
I do believe gw2 has great story building and one that shouldn't be ignored! Thank you for your input!

First) RUclips/google some builds for your class. I would suggest starting with an "open world" build that has sustain for some self sufficiency. You can worry about your glass cannon raid build after having at least one reliable 'get shit done' build. Go to TP, buy some cheap lvl 80 gear that sorta approximates the gear asked for in the build. You'll improve this later. And approximate your build traits as best you can, till you unlock the elite the build is most likely predicated on.
Second) Go get the first 4 mounts, Just as Caf Dad suggested, BUT I would suggest only doing the first story chapter to access the map, then come back later, experience story as intended. (OR don't do story at all and teleport to friend, as long as you own PoF.) Pick up some HPs and MPs to unlock the mounts and elite, but you're trying to get in and out here.
Third) With an actual build goal in mind, you can hit up HoT, work on gliding as well as other masteries* while simultaneously working on HP to finish up your elite. (Or perhaps a second elite, depending on how many HPs you farmed in PoF) *You will want up to Updraft, Itzel language, exalted markings. You will earn an armor piece for completing an elite. You can fill out the rest by earning Verdant Brink currency, though you'll likely have to buy a chest piece and approximate the stat combo your build requires.
After that I would say do what you want, although Itzel poison and Nuhoch stealth are nice goals and make getting more masteries and HPs on future toons easier.
I have multiple alt accounts. While I'm spoiled on my main account, I was impressed with how much you can get around using only the first 4 mounts. remember, skimmer is an alternate glider, with which you won't take fall dmg. Same can be said of jackal if you save at least one "jump" right before you hit the ground.

    • @CaffeinatedDad
      @CaffeinatedDad  Год назад +1

That's actually a good piece of knowledge regarding the jackal and skimmer right at the end of your comment. I've also seen a few people talk specifically about the verdant brink meta and that zone in general as a great place to work!

If I were to advise a fresh 80:
    1. Unlock gliding and raptor: gives you access to HP trains.
    2. Run at least one HP train and unlock 1+ elite specs asap. Lets you start playing/practicing end game builds. No sense in investing dozens of hours into a core build you'll never use again. Hop in the first one you see, but HoT prob ideal if given the option (then PoF > EoD; easier to find and solo on average).
    3. You're really free to start any/all progressions at this point. The only real progression that spills over between game modes is gear/general resources, which are largely gained in all (more/less zero sum), so it matters little where you start.
    a. Open world/story (solo pve). PoF story/mastery is by far the best place to start for this (as mentioned in vid). This will unlock mounts that make everything in open world more accessible/convenient. After mounts, it's kind of on to the rest of the mastery tracks. Meta-event farming will be your best source of solo-pve general resources (gold, etc.)
    > Note: Available while monitoring party finder or waiting in queue, etc. You'll likely balance this with your preferred game mode(s).
    b. Fractals (i.e. dungeons). Where to start honing advanced pve mechanics. Start by looking for T1 groups in the party finder. Daily upper tier fractals tend to be the best reward/time farming. Strikes and raids also available, but better left until you're at least full exotic and have a good handle on your class/spec.
    c. WvW (large scale pvp). Start by finding a commander with an open squad and follow the zerg for awhile. Important initial progression: rank up 1/6 warclaw > 1/6 gliding > 6/6 provisions > finish gliding/warclaw. Also make sure to start the warclaw collection/reward track immediately.
    > Hint: save up your wvw skirmish claim tickets!
    d. SPvP (arena style pvp). Progression within this mode is seasonal (i.e. rankings), but does offer reward tracks (similar to wvw) that provide resources/gear usable in other modes.
    > Hint: save up your pvp league tickets!
    4. Once you get your bearings a little within each game mode and have a feel for what's important to you, that's kinda when you start considering the legendary farm/collections :)

It’s easier to ask in map chat if there is an hp train going on in the map you’re in, as most mentors & squads won’t bother to lfg for an ho train.
Alternately, if you need help, (like in any of the HoT maps), you can:
    A) ask fir help with a specific hp/mastery point, in map chat.
I’ve always gotten at least 2 or 3 people to help.
    Or,
    B) turn in your mentor tag (assuming you don’t have a commander tag), and announce in map chat that you are doing an hp/mp train, and you will usually get anywhere from 5-15 people to join you, almost immediately.

Actually, skyscale would be more profitable to acquire than the griffon, as it's *faaaaaaar* less costly gold-wise to acquire, though expect to spend several days unlocking it. Plus, skyscale is the only mount that can repair rifts with its Rift Repair mastery, which can come in handy. Also, Advanced Gliding is much better to acquire than mere Lean Techniques, as it's utterly broken. Add in jade bot's gilding booster 3 and you can theoretically glide over the entire map.

    • @andreavasile6388

if you have the gold, its possible to get griffon within 3 hours, while skyscale is a required 3 days atleast + the other timegates. and you need to get the currency, in that time that you shouldve already been able to get much gold xD id recommend people to get both as skyscale is a good climber and griffon a fast flyer, but griffon is braindead easy to get outside of the gold part

It is a big omission to leave out how to get named exotic gear. You can save A LOT of money on exotic armor by filtering your search with the little gear next to the search box. Instead of saying the prefix of the armor, search for the stats that armor increases, lol 80, exotic gear. Then sort by price low-high. Many armors have named counterparts that are exactly the same, just SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. Vipers and Celestial are noted exceptions. But Berserker's does have a named counterpart.
