is there even a penalty for stealing a vehicle in California?
They actually applied the $950.00 rule to it. I'm sure the van is worth more than that but it opens the door to getting a plea deal to a lower theft crime and most likely probation without real jail time. 🙄
Probably not
The only penalty in California is for any law abiding citizen who works or does not engage in criminal behavior. Criminals have a little to no accountability in the once great state of California

Auto theft should get a minimum of 5 years in the state penitentiary. Car jackers at least 10. Enough of this arrest and release business.
