He's on a Gen 1 KLR-650. It's top speed, downhill with a tail wind, is about 85mph. Never a chance the CHP couldn't stay with him. I'm sure the motorcycle cops were laughing they were "pursuing" a KLR.
I don't think I've ever seen a Motorcycle on Motorcycle pursuit before. Pretty cool.

I didn't see the bike close enough but what I did see it looks like the front fender was a Honda like a 90 2 XL 250 or something.
I don't think they said it ever got over 80 mph on The Chase that's about right for a 250 topped out

It's CA and it's LA. The guy KNOWS that the LA District Attorney doesn't prosecute stuff like this. He KNOWS he will have to post little or no bail and be out in hours. Later he pays a fine and that's the end of it. It's the way CA VOTERS want it. if they didn't, they would vote for law and order candidates.
I used to live in Los Angeles. Police pursuits are all too familiar to me. You see it all the time covered by local TV stations. I don’t understand why the offenders challenge the police for chases when they know the police will not stop until they get the offenders. Also, the police never runs out of gas cuz the moment the person being pursued crosses another city, the police department of that city takes over. So the police officers can chase the offender all they want and may just take their time. It’s owing to the fact that pretty soon the vehicle of the person they are pursuing will run out of gas! You’re in a lose-lose situation. Better comply with the police to avoid risking your life and the lives of innocent people who are on the roadways.
Their best chance is going into the mall parking structure and bailing. I've seen a few get away doing that.

Well there are some cases where it’s pretty easy to get away from the police. Most places don’t have motor cops or helicopters less than 10 miles away itching to go. If you are on a bike and these unique challenges are not there, there’s 3 ways to get away.
1. Go where they can’t go. Have knowledge of the local trails and know which properties are good to cut through, and which trails don’t have much foot traffic
2. Hit a lot of corners. If you can take corners faster than them, and accelerate faster, you can gain a lot of distance. Pretty dangerous as lots of corners usually means neighborhoods.
3. top speed. If you have a high HP bike and a nice stretch of highway this is possible, also dangerous.
Number 1 is your safest bet. You don’t even need speed to use this method. I have gotten away on a motorized pedal bike this way before lol

I don't think the suspect knew how to ride a dirt bike with enthusiasm. He just knew it was stolen and doing the best he can.

A car can’t follow a motorcycle through traffic like a motorcycle can. You saw the motorcycle going in between stopped cars.

It's not an "Offroad", nor a "Dirt" Bike, it's a Dual Sport. But, it is offroad capable. It's much heavier than a dirt bike.

Here in Oakland, the cops don’t dare harass the people riding off road vehicles on the streets. In fact, it’s considered racist for anyone to even mention it.

Never understood why someone would run knowing California choppers are constantly in the air everyday just for these pursuit occurrences. This goes back to the 1980s when "Cops" were tops in tv ratings so EVERYBODY in cali already know the odds of winning a chase aren't good.

Yeah, That's like trying to outrun the radio. News choppers don't have the same jurisdiction of LAPD choppers during pursuits which are also equipped with night vision, News choppers aren't.
Staying out front of a chopper doesn't mean the vehicle is out-running the chopper. They intentionally stay behind the fleeing vehicle for the purpose of camera position.
I mean it doesn't take Einstein to see you can run but you can't hide with a chopper barreling above. Not even with a 'zuk smh.

That's an '07 or older Kawasaki KLR650. I've owned a couple of them. You're not going to outrun anybody on one of those. The handle very poorly both on and off road. That have an absolute max top speed of maybe 85 mph. What they do have is a huge gas tank. A full tank gives you about a 300 mile range. That guy must have been wanted for something serious. Surely he wouldn't have done that just for a traffic violation. Now he's going to spend a long time in jail.

My brother sent this video to me. He rode motors for the CHP for 15 years. He retired after 39 years on the job. He got a kick out of watching this video.
