  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Chrysler 300C is a luxury car in the classic American tradition of Luxury. It is big, bold and imposing. It is also technologically advanced with a new 8-speed automatic transmission paired to our testers ubiquitous Pentastar V6 Engine. In another accurate fun and informative TFLcar review Nathan and Roman take the big Chrysler up the Ike Gauntlet to see how the new eight speed transmission handles the steep grade.
    From Dillion, Colorado to the Eisenhower Tunnel U.S. I-70 climbs 8 miles to a maximum elevation of 11,158 feet or 3,401 meters. That's enough elevation and grade to test the 8-speed transmission of the 2014 Chrysler 300C.

    Finally a Chrysler which can compare favorably to the Chryslers of the fifties and sixties. The old ones were not perfect but like this one had a strong presence and could cruise the interstates in style and comfort for as long as you wanted. A few years ago I drove east to west through the Eisenhower tunnel and loved the roads and the scenery. Your videos are making it very hard for me not to just gas up and make the 1800 trip just to drive through the area again.

    My father used to measure the worth of a car in whether he could get in it and drive the 10 hours to Pittsburg and still be able to move when he got out of it. He usually drove a big Oldsmobile. By that standard the 300 shines.

    Thanks for the reply. when do you think that the Chrysler 300 hemi will be getting the 8 speed transmission? It is now in the jeep hemi,(including the SRT) and the dodge truck hemis. Several forums thought that it would be seen in the 2014 Charger and Chrysler 300, but no go so far.

    Hi TFL car. I have a suggestion for a new mashup comparison episode. It would be great if you could do a comparison between three large American luxury cars. A mashup between the Chrysler 300c, Cadillac XTS, and Lincoln MKS would be killer! I don't think anyone has done it, and it would be interesting to see what you guys think about these cars and the manufacturers.

    Make more videos like this one!
    I've saw in europe a Lancia Thema (300C for EU market) it was beautiful!
    It's much more interesting than popular Audi's and BMW's.
    I also like that you've said, that not every one need a sporty handling cars.
    (But actually I like when typical car handles like a sports car)
    P.S. Fiat own a part of Chrysler, not all of it)

    I have a good ide for ike gauntlet 3.0, you guys tow with the v6 Pickups like:
    2014 Ram 1500 3.6 L V6
    2014 Ford f-150 3.7 L V6
    2014 Chevy Silverado 4.3 L ecotec V6
    2014 Toyota Tundra 4.0 V6
    And then i would hook up a trailer with a weight of 5,000-6,000 pounds. I think this test would be very interesting and it would be cool to see if these V6 engines would make it up the ike Gauntlet.

    I think here in the UK the 300 is in some ways taking the place of the older more traditionally shaped Jaguar XJ. I know 2 'Jag guys' who now drive 300's and a friend who is a member of the Jaguar owner club says several member he's aware of are driving 300's because they just don't like the new Jag's. However, Chrysler do have a problem here in that people looking for a traditional large rear wheel drive car often do not think of them, which is a shame because I've driven several here and thought they were great.

    I bet the transmission downshifting is more about programming. I drove my dad's 528i through the Smokey Mountains in TN and the trans didn't require a downshift to maintain speed using cruise control. Granted we were not anywhere close to 10000ft .

    I believe the 300c uses the Mercedes 128 chassis. Most people know that as the 300e that came out in USA in 1986. It is a wonderful chassis. Handling is great !! My mom and dad bought a new one with the Hemi. It was fast as heck, hard to see out of with the chopped windows, and after 2 years, some buttons started to fail..

    • @TomazHilton
      @TomazHilton 10 лет назад

      the 2011 does not use a Mercedes E class Chassis. the Redo for 2011 was so extensive, it ended up being a totally new platform. the 2011 still uses the Suspension parts and Few Drivetrain parts (ei 5speed) from the Mercedes.

    As with any car, fuel efficiency takes a huge hit when you stomp on the accelerator. Hence, the 13 mpg experienced.
    With normal acceleration, cruise control set, and no stops before reaching the end if the gauntlet, it's a safe bet that anyone could get above 15 mpg with that car.
    I wonder if anyone has slapped a turbo or two on the Pentastar.

    These guys are great.
    They put out quality videos.
    However they do not get a lot of views.
    So I have a question.
    They don't make these videos because they are good people.
    These videos must be very expensive to make.
    Besides the cost of the cars and their own expenses' there must be a lot of people behind the camera who have to be paid.
    My question is how do they profit from these videos if the number of views is so low.

    @jaspersilus 10 лет назад +1

    The main reason more people dont buy American cars in the UK is the cost, not because the suspension is too soft, the steering too light, or the quality not acceptable!
    By the time they reach our shores they are massively more expensive than they are in the US, the Chrysler 300C shown in the video starts at £36000 ( thats $58000 ) or the same as a mid range Jaguar XF, same with the Grand Cherokee, £37000 which is Discovery money.

    I really like that car. If I had to choose between an A5 with 180 hp, CVT and no Christ-for-saken standard NAV, a BMW 320i Sport GP with 184 hp and ZF's AT8 and this Chrysler, I think I'd get this last one, even though I'm a big fan of german style, I just think this is just SO MUCH MORE value for money.
    Oh... and I'm talking about the pricing in my country, where all of the mentioned costs around 70K dollars. YEs... i know...

    In a previous mash-up (Chrysler 300 S vs Ford Taurus) the Chrysler 300 received a "buy it " rating. But here you only gave it a "lease it rating". Why the difference?

    • @NathanDAdlen
      @NathanDAdlen 10 лет назад +1

      For me, it was (mainly) because the "new" design is getting old. I would still get one over a regular Taurus. Great question!

    Grew up in Oklahoma and for those who navigate the "crack," (the part of the US map hidden by the binding of the road atlas), cars like the 300 are a perfect vehicle. Start in Laredo and aim for N Dakota. Other than a jog east in Topeka and left again in KC, you never have to turn the wheel until you reach Canada. Sure, a big Mercedes, BMW, or Audi would be more luxurious, but what a waste of engineering and sooo much more expensive.
    I escaped the great plains many years ago but for those who still reside there, the Chrysler 300 and its brethren from Ford and GM can almost recreate 1955. And for a diminishing share of population that seems to be a selling point.

    Love your reviews but I have to say that you'd just floored the accelerator so you were getting 11 mpg. I have the same engine in a 2012 Durango and I get an average of 20 around mixed driving and around 27 mpg highway. Also the last transmission that you'd tested wasn't a CVT it was the Mercedes 5 speed. I've found that the ECU on modern cars adjust about every 15 minutes and read your driving habits and change completely after about an hour. I broke my Durango in very gently for the first 5000 miles and never used more than 1/8" of accelerator and now I only need to use 1/8" accelerator for normal driving and 1/4" to 1/2" for merging into traffic on the highway so my transmission is still nice and tight and I have nothing but a ton of reserve power left. My dealer service techs have told me that they've never seen a car broken in so well and that it should last a long time. It's also the reason that I've always beaten the EPA figures on all of my vehicles. By the way $37,000 is still mid level Impala territory.

    This car don't handle. Every turn was scary while I was test driving this car. And the design of the shifter is pretty dumb, very easy to mis-shift between P, R, N and D.

    Lease it? That's crap! Nothing in its class even compares. There was no justification for the "lease it" decision.

    Good car with terrible interior quality. I sat in one in the dealer and I hate the cheap plastic dashboard and the fake wood trim.

      No Lancia wasn't involved with the 300c, the 300c has been around longer than lancia has owned chrysler.. its actually an old mercedes e class underneath. BEcause Daimler used to own chrysler and jeep

    Look at the center console screen on that thing..,look at the cheap watch mounted on top of it and the heating-cooling dials underneath!!! My God,it looks so CHEAAAAAAAAAPPP!! At least from Detroit are having revolution..,from 4 speed auto moved to 8 is serious step ahead:)))) If they could take some lessons from Hyundai or Kia how to make interiors,they might get it right:)
