I look at it and it still looks like a word, but the Z looks backwards. It isn't. But I get that same feeling like I'm looking at a backwards letter

Coca Cola is my all time favorite brand design, such a classic.
Yesterday I was watching a documentary on the 80's and there was a segment about the "cola wars" between Coke and Pepsi. Pepsi had run the Pepsi Challenge ad campaign and most people in the blind taste test said they liked Pepsi better, so Coke introduced "New Coke" and got massive amounts of shit for it because avid Coke-drinkers hated it and preferred the original Coke. After that, they apologized and rebranded the original formula as "Coke Classic" and wiped the floor with Pepsi. They've taken the nostalgia/"don't change a good thing" approach to their brand ever since.
My thoughts:
AT&T was great, I still like the curve in their lines to make it look global but I love your gradiation and sticking with the same cyan blue.
The Chipotle logo looks a lot like chili’s ( I thought that before you googled Chilis) to me. Perhaps a darker red and no green and the stem should have a thicker break. I like the font of you used, I wish the “c” was larger. Good idea on swapping the “o” for the pepper and I liked the curve of Mexican grill or straight, both look awesome.
Zara should be capitalized because it looks juvenile to me. I like the font and charcoal grey you chose.
Sarah Jennett I love this critique. put in your thoughts while also saying what she did well. I think you should start with the positives on all of them like you did with the at&t one tho.. (:

I think Zara needs serifs, I think it would be important to let those be where they were, since all the brands stopped putting serifs in their new brands, and now all of them look the same and without personality. I like Zara's original brand, they changed it, I like it, but I think it's over exaggerated. If it wasn't that over exaggerated it would be cool. And for me it looks like high fashion, since it's simple but elegant. Serifs give elegancy in my opinion.
i was confused why everyone is saying "z doesn't look like a letter anymore" but it really doesn't after i watched this video
I was also super confused so i just skipped to the end to see what it looked like and even without starring at it for long it still looks off. I feel like it doesn't flow with the rest of the letters and the thin diagonal line makes it look like it's tipping over to the left

The Elements of Typographic Style: "Be careful with kerning. People spend entire lives designing fonts and you could ruin it with improper kerning."

True... but this rule doesn’t apply for a logo. And this rule is mostly for the people who is not educated in graphic design.
@@savvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvva kerning and tracking always hold true for everything that use typography. Unless you have a concept that explicity is about mis-aligning the letters for something like kinder care, or a punk company or magazine etc. Kerning like a master and knowing why to track type is the difference between being a real craftsman of the trade or a weekend hobby hack that doesn't care to be that detailed because they are too lazy when it comes down to being a real designer.
Oh my god imagine how much they payed for Fabian to rebrand and it literally took you two minutes to imitate 🙈💀😂
imitating and creating are two very different things

Designers are not paid for imitating, they are paid to make the face (identity) of the company
It’s not about the time or effort it takes to make the logo. I‘ve heard the nike logo was made in 2 minutes. You are paying for the value you‘re getting. And for a multi million dollar company it’s essential to have a “face“ that is instantly recognizable. That’s why a designer will design a logo that’s just as good for a smaller company for a fraction of the price. It’s called value based pricing. It’s about how much income they can expect from the new image (which will obviously be way more than a smaller company).
Hmm, I don't know about the Zara one, the 'ara'-part looks so rounded and then the 'Z' looks so straight and harsh. Just doesn't look cohesive to me. Loved the Chipotle logo though!
zara's logo is just the Harper's bazaar logo with even less space

You could redesign logos such as Coke Cola or Walmart but interject social commentary. Or redesign logos using the stylistic choices of iconic or contemporary graphic designers or artists, like William de Kooning or Paula Scher.

The Zara logo isn’t rocking my boat but each to their own. You had a minimalist cursive when you were trialling fonts which I think fit their demographic a lot more, just my opinion ofc
i thought about the cursive, but theyre style is way too minimal and a cursive doesnt make sense for their brand, so i nyxed it!
I absolutely ADORE your chipotle logo. I feel like the current logo doesn’t match the aesthetic of the store and it’s demographic at all, your redesign really captures how I think chipotle has evolved
i would love to see some fast food/restaurant logos that havent had a facelift in a while, like burger king or dennys. you have a great style!

The way you put the logos in samples and on signs in the second video was a major upgrade. I really love being able to see the visual "in the world". It also breaks up the video and keeps the energy going. Anyways, love your content!

Even though I like the colors you used for Zara, I think black was representing a stronger brand and a powdery pink made the logo seem weaker. Still great designs tho!
i get what you mean, thats why i went more mauve vs pink so its more of a neutral tone. I didnt want to use black to contrast everything they already had as a brand and go more tonal and elevated.

I absolutely love this video! I'm studying graphic design in college and I have hit quite a snag in my life thinking maybe it's not what I should be doing because everyone is so much better than me. I'm taking at least a semester off from school to kind of find direction in my life again and I think this video alone has really helped already. I would love to see more videos like this one because hearing you talk about graphic design and understanding what you're saying and doing it such a cool thing for me. I really love that I found you through your orange hair dye video that you posted after this one haha.

fun fact: the third AT&T's logo thay you make with straight diagonal culine is really exist. it belongs to telkom, it was. a national telecommunication and metwork provider in Indonesia. that's their old logo. the difference is that they have some gradation in their diagonal line. it's awesome how human's brain can makes the same picture eventhough they never see it
i loved this video super cool - love watching designers' process! i would love to see Urban Outfitters since their branding leaves a lot of room for creativity! i'd also love to see Unilever since they they have their "U" with all the symbols included paired with the cursive. definitely a lot to work with/off of! woo ty!
