This actually helps a lot. All my graphic design 'projects' were from highschool over 10 years ago (yikes)and I just wanted to start completely fresh, but had no where to go. Thank you for this 💖
your video made me feel less scared in starting my portfolio, I am ready to find a job in what I studied, but got scared in where to start and how, so this video really helped me in structuring my ideas, and gave me new ones, plus feeling less nervous in starting. Thank you Paola!
I'm graduating this month with my bachelor's in graphic design! I'm so excited to jump into work. These prompts are great! One "prompt" I've been working on for my portfolio is a collection of skateboard designs. I guess this would go along with illustrations but a skateboard would be the canvas.
@@rabbit9471 its a personal decision. college is good for networking and job opportunities, but in reality you can learn graphic design youreslf from youtube videos. you can get a job without going to college, but you need to have a good network.
Maybe similar to poster design if you go simple, but redesigning a menu can be a fun challenge. I personally love rewriting the food descriptions, playing with the typography, and the challenge to get everything to fit and align well. I've done salon menus too, but It just doesn't hit the same haha
This really helped!! I am transitioning from fashion design to graphic design. It's so hard to transition from a different field but I feel like this video gave me hope - thanks so much! 💖💖
Hi! I really liked the examples you expose here! :) long story short, I've just started studying Graphic Design and would like to start building my portfolio but after watching this I need to define where I would like to go and the main reason I got into this field was because of beauty and fashion, I'd like to pursue the packaging of a beauty brand or a fashion editorial so I'd really appreciate if you give me your best advices! Thank you 💜
thank you :) also, what I recently realized: especially for layout/editorial, chat-gpt can be very helpful, so you don't need to use lorem ipsum. I was sceptical of chat-gpt in the beginning, like "when to even use it", but this helped me a lot for my mockup "fake" design projects.
@@anastasijawave Just wanted to elaborate on this: I wanted to start a project that was the branding for store so I asked ChatGPT to create a graphic design branding brief including a shop name, their values, what they sell, and what they would need designed (ex. a restaurant would need a menu, business cards, etc.) and it created a full brief! Super cool, especially for something like a restaurant cause it can create a full "made up" menu for you to be able to typeset and design. Super helpful for made up brands!

I have a question to you ma'am I design visiting cards for clients. Should i include my visiting cards work in portfolio? Coz my friend who is a graphic designer and other graphic designers tell me never to include my visiting card design works. I do not know who to believe different videos tell different advices i don't know which one to believe is authentic creating portfolio advice. Hi. I came across your channel, looking for ideas for a portfolio. My question is. I love designing graphics for scrapbooking and junk journalling kits. Is it possible to create a portfolio, and how would i achieve that. Any help would be greatly appreciated 👏
Hey Paola (or anyone lol), If we are rebranding, Is it best to get permission from the business before working on a mockup? I just want to make sure before I begin working on it.
I have a question in regards to developing a case study with the examples you showed us like Erbert. 60-70% of the case study is made up of the identity applied in really world scenarios with art direction and professional photography. This is not accessible for people who are developing work on their own or just doing fictional projects. I end up having to resort to premade mockups, setting something up in 3d programs or just plain old photoshopping it on. But it just doesn't have the same level of hmph or the exact tone I'm looking for. I was wondering if you have any tips on this?
I have found really great real-world style mockups, check out my video here for suggestions! ruclips.net/video/SxJXhlpswSc/видео.htmlsi=GM8ItYa9zBN4QNQZ
hey, sorry i reached out to you just now, love your vids. can i ask u a question? about rebranding, are we allowed to takes the photo and then just put on our made up brand? and if not, where can we find the raw photo?
Hi Paola, great video & very informative, can i ask, on the examples you showed the designs on different textures (walls, shops etc), how do i access these templates so i can use them?
I did lots of promo posters for a pizza company and I am not sure if a mock-up of all of them helps or not when you have so many. I think they’re all good to show but if they are all mockups then don’t they lose their impact? They are all the same size.
I was wondering on where you get the photos from for Branding (coffee shop, restaurant) I’m just worried if I used someone else’s photo, I could get sued…
most mockup sites cover the copyright, and it’s up to you to make sure you’re not stealing any images online. Try stock image websites where you can get copyright free images! Like Adobe stock or pexels etc
Question to those who have or are studying towards a degree in Graphic esign, im looking into taking one now and would love your opinions if its worthwhile? or if making a portfolio and teaching myslef is possible
Hi I love the video btw, but I have a question regarding the rebranding of logos and brands for a portfolio. Do they have to be an actual commission from a business to be featured on my portfolio, or can I use/rebrand any business of my choosing. I think you mentioned this already in the video, but I just want a little bit more clarification. Thank you for your time!
One more thing, when creating the brand name and story for your made up company, is it fine to use A.I. to get ideas for it/make it (just the brand name and brand story), or is this something that I should steer away from.
I’m sorry for my ignorance 😂 but does a portfolio have all of these ideas combined? Or do I make one portfolio for one topic and then make another for another topic? Kinda lost here (never done this before)
I can see how 10 projects is a decent amount to add, but I got advice from another designer, who told me to only incorporate 4-5 projects because more would over saturate. I still haven't gotten an internship, and I think 4-5 is too little.
Im currently preparing to make a portfolio for college. Do you think its a good idea to have a physical portfolio as well as digital showcasing various different works as long as the process? Or is that too much?
I’ve noticed that a lot of places want digital portfolio only now! But I still love a physical portfolio and I think it’s a good idea to have one prepped

that would come under illustration/animation design i think. Character designers usually work with teams that create shows/films
