- Here is my reasoning behind replacing all my big heavy pro gear with the nice, small, sophisticated Fujifilm X100F. I am very happy with this camera so far and I know it won't leave my side anytime soon.

I love mine. Don’t even shoot raw. I love the jpegs & film simulations. Easy peasy
Getting mine tomorrow... Great video and did subscribe so bring more of your experience with the F100
Well done. I love carrying my black X100T daily for all of the reasons you stated.
Joe Lopez thanks Joe! They’re such inspiring little cameras, mine hasn’t left my side. I’ve shot it more in a week than I shot my 5D in the last 3 months combined!
I've shot nothing but Nikon for forty years. Bought an X100F and I love it. It doesn't replace my system, but I'm loving this in the street.
Great video man. Just bought it today, and can't wait to start shooting with it!
Jared Quackenbush it’s been great! Have fun!
Awesome discussion! One of the best looking cameras ever. The fixed lens rules, the size rules. Great vid
Jack Stolz thanks man! I agree 100%. I love this thing.
Great video! Liked and subbed! Super compelled to buy an x100f now!
GREAT CAMERA my father was shoot 2 D5’s D850 with and endless amount of lenses 24-70, 50 mm, even up to 600mm and they just sat he got rid of them and now shoots primarily Leica m10, 246 monochrome, leica Q, and the m6. He bought me the silver x100f when they came out i was part of the first few hundred in the country to have it and it is flawless endless configurations and short cuts i’m still learning new things about it every day with out a doubt a professional camera compact he even borrows it from time to time cause he loves it so much he’s currently looking into the x-e3 to toy around with.
Congrats to you! I just bought one yesterday after much research into digital cameras. I wanted a compact digital camera to replace my ancient Sony compact digital..which still works fine but I wanted something updated and quality made, which I found in the Fujifilm X100F. I also have a Nikon FM film SLR which I dearly love but got rather tired of lugging it around with lenses and accessories and the increasing difficulty in easily getting film and processing. I'll keep it though just don't have the heart to shelf it or sell it..and for when I get the urge to shoot film. Passed on the Sony to my granddaughter it still is a very usable and handy camera. Examined the demo X100F at the store yesterday in addition to all the good reviews and I was sold. Looking forward to learning how to use all it's features for now I've got it set for completely auto operation took some great shots so far.
best camera i ever had and i own nikon D4s .Still can't believe how awesome this camera is
Looking forward to more X100F content. I recently rented one myself, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I divested myself of an old Canon APS-C and a couple of M43 cameras along with an assortment of lenses. Seriously thinking about renting the X100F again when the weather gets a bit nicer as I didn't give it as much of a workout as I had hoped.
Kevin Barrett I juggled with the idea a little bit and rode the fence for a while, but I also subscribe to idea of putting energy and effort into one thing without a plan B and finding a way to make it work. Since it’s just “stuff” I felt like I could always go back if needed, I’m extremely happy and impressed every day by this camera. Give it another few days and OVER shoot it. Shoot stuff you’d never shoot, constantly have it on it, shoot hundreds and hundreds of throw away shots and I bet you’ll be sold! Good luck!
@@JimMadden - Thanks for your reply. Good tips
Thanks bro for the great video! I'm going to purchase the camera :)
Walter Winiana enjoy man!
*A camera is an extension to one’s needs.*
*_Fujifilm x100 series, especially from S-type onward with the latest F-series_** are considered by many whose cameras fit their need like a glove, the best street photography camera in the world.*
*Sure, go find your own perfect extension of you, according to your use, personality, preferred feature, design, but make sure you match that with the Service that your choice company offers. Some suck. Fuji excels in Customer/tech support service.*
*_Excellent points and presentation!_* 👍
Outstanding review. I shoot fuji in Calgary. Love their kit. Seriously looking at adding this to my cameras. Thanks. Great job
thesilversurfer100 that’s great to hear! I’ll be doing another video reviewing the past few months using this camera as well, spoiler alert, it’s still amazing. Good luck!
I have an 'S' with the TCL. I absolutely love the combo and use it almost exclusively for online dating profile shoots, but really want to upgrade to the 'F' mainly for the faster auto focus/eye auto focus. Lots of people will compare it to other brands 1", 4/3, APSC or Full frame point and shoots, but few understand the advantages of the built in ND filter and leaf shutter. The things you can do with the little X100 series, vs other fixed lens cameras, are extraordinary. Try overpowering the sun with a cheap manual speedlight on a Cybershot or similar camera, you'll be sadly disapointed.
You raise some interesting and valid points about the merits of this camera. I bought one 3 months ago and it's already an "old friend". I would add that the hybrid viewfinder was a persuasive reason for me to choose this camera. It can be a great benefit at times. Also don't forget the unique benefits of the leaf shutter!
Martin Johnston great points! I’m still loving it over a year later, and I consistently use it over my Sony A7iii
Good video bro. I just bought this too. Great camera
Sam Hartwig thanks man! Yes, I’m so happy with it.
Can’t wait to get one!
Great video. I have the TCL and it's a great addition to the arsenal.
Chris F I’m very tempted by the TCL, I’m sure I’ll add it eventually! Thanks for the kind words brother
Just subbed mate, so relaxing video. And also, FUJI!!!! ✨
I got an X100F about a month ago, and it's the closest feel to walking round with my old Leica M2 with a 35mm lens (and loaded with Acros). If they'd designed it specifically for me, they couldn't have done it better. Oh, and it produces the best in-camera jpegs I've ever seen.
osliverpool that’s so exciting to hear! An M2 is iconic so the fact there is something similar is amazing
Nice, clean video, subbed.
I have an x100f, too - love it for the same reasons you mentioned.
Joseph Nakhost awesome!!! Thank you
Hi Jim, same to me i bought the X100F last week and i am happy :D
awesome! hope you enjoy it!
Great video, man. I’ve just started using BB focus on mine for street and think it’s an absolute game changer. Focus is faster and locked so just recompose at will. I also bought a JB Camera Designs half grip and really rate it highly. Doesn’t at much bulk or weight and makes the grip much better imo
Like you said, just such an inspiring camera!
Phil Forsberg-Poon that’s awesome! I’ve been tempted by that same half grip for sure
Love the reasons why you carry the x100 - pretty much why I carry my Ricoh GR everywhere too. Only it fits in my pocket! 👍👍
JC Street great camera!
Hey man! Greetings from Montréal! I was just looking up every blog channel on the Fuji X100F as I just bought new batteries for my X100 and rediscovered the joy of using these. I have been using Sony for the last three years now I think. I was just super happy with the possibilities the A7 series offer but I can now feel what people mean when they say Sony cameras are a bit like computers. I actually really felt that when I upgraded the firmware from 1.3 to 2.1 on the Fuji x100. SO MUCH has been corrected from the time I bought it, like 5 years ago maybe, little details that kept me from using this camera and made me switch systems again. I am now considering the X100F because (a black one of course, man, they're so sexy in black!!) because it seems to take the experience a step above and the 24mp sensor can really give you better printing capabilities, which is important to me. Anyway! This is a long message but I dig finding a vloging canadian! I am subscribing. Take care! Spring is only... 2 months away. Haha!
Marc-André Dupaul that’s awesome! I had a Sony A7Rii for 3 years and I don’t miss it one bit to be honest. Yes multiple lenses and high capability is great, but I love the challenge of using something more simple, I’ve never wanted to carry a camera as often as I am with the X100F. I’m glad you got yours up and running for sure! I also can’t imagine the weather out there! It’s been brutal in Calgary, but hopefully there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for us haha. Thanks for the sub brother
Great review!! Coolest camera ever!
Leanne Cloutman thanks so much Leanne!
Your most welcome :)
made the same choice for basic photojournalism . - no sport - one and a half year ago ! this was a very good decision for me
Went on a family vacation without the Pro DSLR etc having purchased a used X100s second hand for the vacation. Fell in love with this little camera model. I'm a retired Press Photographer, I have now sold all my old DSLR/SLR cameras and lenses, this little camera is my 'walk around take anywhere camera'...although to be honest I have picked up some of Fuji's other products too (X-Pro 2 X-T2).
David Milton that’s awesome! I feel tempted to get another Fuji system, but this is handling what I throw at it just fine. About to do 16 days in LA with it too! That’ll be the ultimate test
Whatever you do don’t buy an X-Pro 2 with the 16mm f1.4...it’s addictive.
David Milton haha! Noted.
Such a good video! I was in two minds about this one, but it sounds perfect for me. Thanks for all the information.
Dames May you’re very welcome! You won’t be disappointed, still use mine everyday
@@JimMadden Thats great to hear, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you I use my GH5 for mainly video work but this Fuji looks like a proper get up and go camera without compromising the quality.
Dames May it simply brings back Photography and makes you enjoy it again. Having 2 separate rigs for photo and video is a pain, but separate the professional and personal!
@@JimMadden Definitely, that was my mindset too! Keep up the awesome work. I look forward to checking out more of your content.
Dames May thank you man! Have fun
made same move and change than you jim, totally agree and appreciate since one year
Great review, subbed!
Komrade Watches thank you!!!
I was really interested in buying one of those, until I realized it's the 2017 model. Buying one today is risky as the next model is coming probably next year... The important thing is that your video convinced me that it's a line of cameras well worth it, and if they don't screw-up the next update, I'll certainly get one. Thanks!
olrik666 mortimer great way to look at it! I’ll be doing an update video soon too since I’ve been using and loving it for months now
Love love love!!!
Jesus when you said Calgary my skin crawled. I'm watching this from just outside the city. Never seen your videos before and this was in my recommended. Subbed mate. :)
L Väss oh awesome!!! Where abouts?! Hope you’re staying warm out there
Nice video, honest opinion on choice...like. I've been fortunate to have the same camera (in black too) since Nov17, traded an m43 camera + a couple of lenses for it but didn't take me long to fall in favour with many of the same features mentioned...certainly haven't missed anything/felt overly restricted with the fixed lens. Saying that, have been recently wondering about getting the TCL adapter.
james topham I’ve also been toying with the same idea about getting the adapter. If I do, better believe I make a video right away about it!
Great review and NICE new channel ! You did all well, keep on doing man. I totally agree in your PRO Points to the F 💯💯😀. I only would change 1 thing - The thump rest. As it is fixed i guess you will get some little trouble to use the ISO Dial ;) .. I got myself the one from Lensmate. cheers to 🇨🇦
Starfucker7777 yeah I do notice the dial is harder to spin for sure! I’d love if it was easy to do with one finger from the front but that would maybe mean it was lesser quality. Thanks for the kind words man!
There is a thumb rest you can get that pivots out the way when you need to get to the dial. Can't remember the make but some decent reviews on it.
Ross I believe the Lensmate one does that!
Have the brown one, such a fine camera
You talked me into it, when my X-Pro dies that is, I love that camera.
jon louis haha! Very fair.
Jim - what's up homie! I'm heading down to Barbados next week with my Fuji X-T3. Didn't even know you was on the youtubes.
My rationale was the same in most ways. I was travelling through China for work, then Europe for pleasure. The freedom of the x100t compared to my Nikon world was just pure liberation.
Adrian Carmody that’s a great way to put it! I filmed a concert yesterday and had the Fuji around my neck for 9 straight hours and didn’t even notice.
“What else do you need, really?” Love the way you sum up this camera. 👍👍👍👍👍 p.s. subscribed.
Mark Mathosian thanks so much Mark!
I have a 6 year old silver X100s. I take it with me as a backup to my X-Pro2 when I travel overseas. Sometimes when I want to simplify things I just grab the X100s and leave the X-Pro2 and all the lenses behind at the hotel. I have the same lens hood as you and a red soft shutter button. I just wish the X100 series had weathersealing and that the battery works in -50C windchill in Winterpeg!
Raymond Leung I hear you man! Weather sealing would be awesome. I don’t think there’s a camera battery on earth that can handle the cold you and I experience haha.
It has leaf thing.
It shoot nice picture thing.
I really want a Leica Q2, but the price is insane. This is a reasonable alternative to replace my Canon7X Mark II, which isn't a bad camera either.
I completely agree with your analysis of the benefit of a smaller rig when out and about taking photos.
K. D. Thank you! I would also love a Q2 but it’d be a while before I justify something like that.
I like your thoughts on the x100f. I've been thinking about copping one myself. I really need to give my gear some thought. I find that the 6DmkII works for my RUclips stuff but not really my photography haha.
Sweet Lou Photography I felt literally the exact same! I had a Sony A7Rii for 3 years, and went back to a 5Diii a few months ago. I’ve shot the Fuji more in the last week than the 5D in those few months. It will make you want to shoot photos as a hobby again, throw it on black and white with both RAW and JPEG versions and you’re set. I have my Sony for video so I solely needed a photo machine and I’m so happy about it.
@@JimMadden my rundown is an a7s, 5D3, and 6D2. The 6D2 does alllll my RUclips stuff. Its still not perfect at all. I rarely use my 5D these days. Which bums me out immensely. I was planning on one last big vid talking about it vs the 6Dmk2 before I sell it.
Sweet Lou Photography I think that’s a great idea! I sold allllll my gear, got the Fuji and pocketed some extra cash for video gear. I enjoy simplifying, give a X100F a test run before you commit to it!
I just came across your channel. Sometimes I feel the same way. I sold all of my fuji gear last april and moved to a Sony A7iii with now many lenses. I already miss my fuji gear but FF is slightly better shooting Northern Lights. However many times I feel like selling everything off and getting the Fujifilm X100F or getting a XE3 or now the XT30 and a 23,35 & 50mm f2 lens. Cheers from the Northwest Territories. I have purchased about $25,000 worth of gear from the Calgary Camera store over past 3 years and I can't say enough good things about them.
Skipper yeah see I understand the value of the pro level gear for shooting stuff like that. I’m more of a hobbiest not needing full frame or any wide range of lenses just yet. You could always see if a lens sits around for a bit and sell that towards a daily carry such as a Fuji! Thanks for the love man! Stay warm up there
@@JimMadden so true. I just do it for a hobby also. I am someone who got stuck with really bad GAS and my wallet has paid for it bad. I have a Rioch GRII and barely used. But it takes sharpe and beautiful pictures but I prefer fuji's menu as I am used to it. It's a beautiful -33 here today....lol
Skipper the Ricoh is an incredible camera! You could translate everything I’ve said into that one and see if you use it more even! I do agree on the menu though, Fuji is so easy with such great results. It’s -30 with the wind here but it looks like it’ll break up for the next few days and only be -5/10. Sucks that is the good news haha!
this was awesome my man! good job :D
Piix thank you!
Nice video. Any info on the neckstrap? Thanks!
Jake Cho thank you! Yes it’s an original Yashica leather strap from a old FX3 Super 2000. I had that camera a while back and loved the strap so I’ve carried it through to every camera since then.
Nice Video! XT20 user
Cris Cozy me too!
TCL is a disappointment the WCL is great... get an old one and use the magnet hack to auto switch to wide when you screw it on. Another reason to use the square hood easy to put on and off the WCL
Nice review. You say you wouldn’t use it for video. Why not? Just because you have your existing gear/processes? Or was something missing or bad about x100f for video? Thanks.
paulbaemedia I have pro cinema gear for any real video purposes so I’ll never need to use this, I also don’t think that’s a major selling point for this camera although it’s definitely capable of filming 1080p. It would depend on the project but it’ll pass for a lot of things. I could do a video review on it if that’s something you’d be interested in!
thanks for the info! what camera strap are you using?
Madhur Naredi it’s an old Yashica strap off an FX-3 Super 2000! I’ve had it forever.
Hey Bud! Great review. I know this amazing camera has the digital zoom function to 50mm & 70mm field of view for JPEGs. My question is... does it record movie with the 50/70mm digital zoom function?
The Bearded Heating Co° that’s a great question, let me do some playing around and let you know. I have yet to use the digital zoom in general, but I’ll keep you posted! Great question.
Hey Jim! Thanks for getting back so quick.
I look forward to hearing back once u have tested this out mate!
All the best.
The Bearded Plumber°
The Bearded Heating Co° hey man! So just playing around with the digital zoom conversion, it doesn’t look like it works with video. To have it work it has to be solely under a JPEG photo file, even having RAW selected as a main photo option won’t allow the digital zoom to kick in. Hope this helps!
Hey Jim!
Thanks ever so much for getting back to me and clarifying my query.
Looks like I will carry on using my x100t for making my short videos and photography.
Hopefully the x100f successor has this update in the video department!
Really appreciate you taking the time and helping me out!
All the best,
Ranj
The Bearded Heating Co°
The Bearded Heating Co° yeah that’d be a good move for Fuji! Offering 4K with slight loss of quality using a digital zoom would be amazing. Fingers crossed!
Fuji is dope
Excellent video. Please which brand is your neck strap?
It’s actually an old strap from a film camera, it’s an 80s Yashica strap.
@@JimMadden Thanks a lot, Jim. giuseppe
Beautiful camera hanging around neck is nice accessory . I like pen f and x100f . In picture silver(grey) version Appear more beautiful , have you physically compare both version , it will help me to choose the right one
pawan kumar you mean the silver and black versions of the x100f? That’s totally personal preference! I had the silver for a few days before I bought the black, I always prefer all black but the silver is great looking!
@@JimMadden , yes l mean silver version . Thumps up for your choice at the time of FF mirrorless camera l always respect personal preference. Do you miss ibis in this camera?
pawan kumar since I don’t plan on using this for any video, I’m okay without it. It’s always nice to have for slower shutter speeds but I also very rarely shoot at night or in low light so it works well for me!
@@JimMadden Do you have any website where your work can be seen
pawan kumar website is in the description! Thank you
I'm still using Nikon DSLR's including my Z7 and 2 others and 10th of lenses but Fujifilm X100F is the camera to have with me always, just if this magic moment occurs...
Nice review mate! I bought it 2 days ago!! What strap are you using on that? Would you mind sharing who makes it?
MrBPM75 thanks man! It’s actually an old strap from a Yashica film camera that I’ve carried for years. Keep an eye out on old cameras at antique stores and flea markets!
@@JimMadden Oh okay. Cheers mate!
MrBPM75 A nice straps for Fuji X100 series are the Sailor strap.
i agree with the saying , the best camera is the one you carry with you everyday. i really like the x100f , but i want something portable and can do a lil more. got my eye on the x-t30 with a 23mm lens i can carry everyday or in my bag. i like to have the option to throw a different focal lens depending on the ocassion.
Eagle Eye totally! If I needed any sort of variable lens at all I’d be doing the exact same.
congrts! i have the 100t it´s good camera C:
Fujifil x100f super.
Just sold my Nikon and got this little baby. I’m already in love with he camera and the picture quality.. thanks for the vlog
Radja Esvaran thanks for the love! I appreciate it. Enjoy it, it only gets better
Would love to see pics and also please share your settings. Do you think it would be fine for bug and bird pics...just a hobbyist here. Considering this, the xt 100 or the xt20.
Betzie I would worry you wouldn’t be able to get close enough to bugs and birds using this camera. If bugs stayed put then sure! But birds flying around, you’d have to be quite close. I’d aim for something with interchangeable lenses
Jim Madden Thank-you so much!
Betzie no problem! Good luck!
i had the x100t before but at wide apertures it was noticeably hazy, i dont know about x100f at wide apertures but i already ordered the xe3 )
Stop being gay. That "haze" is called art. :-)
No way it’s hazy. It’s sharp. There is only one setting that is not good: at aperture f2 focusing real close. Just don’t use that combination and you have a perfect camera.
As for the wireless transfer, it’s taken me forever to figure this out and from what I understood you say, I have to shoot a JPG? So I can shoot a RAW and a JPG and the JPG will transfer wirelessly but the RAW will not? It’s taken months to figure out that it the issue. Directions from Fuji could be better on this. Thanks, great video!
Yes! Exactly, so you can either shoot in just JPEG or have a JPEG version as well as a RAW. Another thing to note, is the film simulations will attach only to the JPEG and transfer to your phone like you see on the screen, but the RAW version of that photo will be original without the simulation incase you feel like editing it after a full transfer to a computer. Im pretty sure this even applies if you shoot 16:9 on camera, the RAW should be uncropped if needed, but it will transfer to mobile using the in camera settings you've changed.
Jim Madden Great, Thanks, Jim!
@@paulkelley5100 You're very welcome! I agree, this should be more obvious, it took me a bit of poking around to realize it myself. If you keep it on RAW + Super Fine you should be good in all situations
You can also process the RAW in camera, producing a jpeg. Nice thing about this process, it puts the jpeg you make at the top of the pile, it’s the first one you see in the iPhone app. Just got home from a week on vacation with only my x100f processing my RAW’s in camera gave me a chance to adjust exposure and WB
How is the thumb grip in the hotshoe? What I mean is it loose or tight. Others have said some other grips except for the folding lensmate one are too loose.
Tom Rupp it’s snug but not tight, it definitely won’t slide out when you have your thumb resting on it because it pulls it a bit sideways to avoid that, but it doesn’t take much to slide in and out. I’m happy with it though, I recommend it!
Jim Madden I have the Lensmate folding thumb grip and find it fits perfectly.
Match Technical makes a winner too!
When using your left hand for holding the camera (and your right for touching the shutter) you don’t need the thumb grip.
The camera is already 2 years on the market may be the new version of the FUJIFILM X100F will arrive soon? Anyway, it's an AMAZING Camera!
Meh bodies always get updated. Always spend money on the lenses. Those rarely get updated/changed.
@@jussa101 wait and see...:-)
Done the same thing and sold my pro gear when the x100 first came out. It really reignited my love for photography. Last year for the first time since I began to buy some pro dslr gear again, but decided just to keep the x100 forever!
Stuart Conway hell yeah man! These little things definitely spark something in you.
Get the square hood for the fujix100f ! squarehood.se/
do u recommend for beginners?
Tammy M.B. Absolutely! You can set it pretty much to automatic and achieve very impressive images.
XE3 and this. hard decision.
X-series + vintage glass is lovely
It's a cool camera but very expensive for what it is actually, in my opinion. Now with Canon RP, it will be more difficult to justify this.
Monstermayank I disagree completely, I think this is priced fairly and is different than the RP entirely but to each their own!
Where are the photos ?!
The Topshelf Company they’re coming! The weather has been horrible so even when I brave the cold, no one else does haha!
Cool. Looking forward to seeing your X100F photos :) @@JimMadden
Sure your fingers aren't intimidating!? ;) Great camera!
Lars Rosing haha! I’m the least intimidating person there is.
It looks cool but the grip is so average.
Brian Cullen good thing it comes right off!
Looks dont matter to me except for offending subjects.
You bought it because it looks good? Buy a Leica, I have all Leica’s. I have the M10, Monochrom 246, M7, M6 and the Leica Q. Those are sexy...
Dave H quite a different playing field don’t you think? That’s like telling someone who bought an Audi because of the looks they should have just bought a Bentley. A Leica Q being one of the more affordable Leicas out there is 4x the price of this Fuji.
Jim Madden I am not saying the Fuji is not nice. I use my three Nikon D5’s for work. But I just love Leica and I end up using it for work too.
Dave H I agree for sure, you cannot beat the fit and finish of Leica, period. I was on the fence about a Q, but I’m waiting a year or 2 to see if they revamp it whatsoever then I’ll be getting that one.
Jim Madden The Leica Q 2 is in Beta.
@@JimMadden I'm deciding between q2 or the x100F. Considering selling my x100s, xt2 with 16mm / 35mm for the Leica Q2 I think I'll end up buying the Q2 first and decide again once the new x100 comes out whenever that is!
There are 50 more powerful cameras than this that are as light.
Brian Cullen any examples?
Brian Cullen I’m sure there is, but this isn’t a video showcasing that. It simply explains my reasoning for buying this exact camera.
Then go buy one you wanker!
