    I just wanted to drop you a note and say...I watched the entire video even though I'm not remotely interested in either camera. However, you did such a great job at plainly presenting the info, not talking over the entire video, and letting all those beautiful sample pics speak for themselves that I just had to finish it. THIS is how photography videos should be, you are killing it!

    Very well done. The edge the GR III has is stealth which to me is essential for street/candid photography. The GR III combines the invisibility of the smartphone with the horsepower of a serious camera. I am saying this based on what I've seen from the III on RUclips; I have had a GR II for several years, and it is go-to camera for "the street."

    Lovely work (as always). Your photos are consistently stunning! I see why you own them both, as each is unique and they deliver some of the best OOC looks available. However, since I can't afford to follow your lead, I'm currently leaning towards the X100F. I just find the Acros simulation so compelling. It always stops me in my tracks whenever I come across great shots (both here and elsewhere) taken with it. Right now, I'm holding out to see if the price on the F drops a bit since the arrival of its successor, the X100V. Spring is around the corner, though, so my trigger finger grows more itchy with each passing day! Finally, would you consider updating this video with a X100V vs GR III comparison? I would certainly find that very useful. Thanks for all the amazing videos. Your channel is always informative and inspirational. Cheers from Vancouver, Canada!

    • @snoooozer
      @snoooozer 5 лет назад +1

      My 2 cents: I own the x100F and also have had the XF10 for a couple of months. I wanted something pocketable, but the price of the Ricoh was a bit much for what would be my secondary camera, so I got the XF10. The only downside for me is the autofocus. It's not nearly as bad as some make it out to be, but it's not great. If you've ever used the original x100, it's in that general realm. I still have my old x100 on the shelf and I dusted it off to compare. The XF10 easily beats it in speed, but like the x100, it occasionally gets lost in low-light situations. I've never used an X100S, but i'd imagine the XF10 is similar to that in terms of autofocus speed. IMO if you want a reasonably priced pocket camera, and aren't super concerned about ultra-fast focusing, it's great.

    • @benficaM8888
      @benficaM8888 5 лет назад

      I think XF10 actually has a slightly better low light performance and image quality, better battery, has a built-in flash. But that slow autofocus in XF10 is no joke. It is absolutely horrendous, and it's less pocketable compared to GR

    You put a lot into this so thank you! I still think that the WCL interferes somehow with the autofocus and face detection but there's no question in my mind that you went for a fair and honest comparison which I appreciate.
    The thing about the X100 series is that they're cameras made for photographers. Everything is at the right place and they're inspiring and (at least to people like us) they feel like the essence of photography both technically and emotionally.
    Ricoh on the other hand obviously suits younger photographers who grew up with smartphones and don't really care about what we feel is lacking here and there and they're right because whatever works is perfectly fine with me.
    At the end of the day nobody owns the truth it's all about personal preference and both cameras produce spectacular outcomes in a different way.
    Thanks again Samuel I appreciate what you and your friends do it's very refreshing and positive and precious.

      Thanks for this very thoughtout comment! This comparison is just for fun really. I would never think of these cameras as equal tools. Samuel, Thank you very much for providing feedback with your experiences with both cameras. Your feedback came across as being very unbiased. I've been shooting street for about two years now and finally reached the point where a Canon DSLR is prohibiting me from getting the shots I want because it is just too large. I have had enough of people staring at me or waving me off. I think I am leaning towards purchasing the GR3. The positives for me are: No need for a wide angle lens unless I want to go wider I can get the wide angle lens (available at a small cost), less conspicuous, the touch screen and cost. You note in your review the X100F has a slightly better AF. This comment somewhat surprised me as I heard other reviews claiming the AF on the X100F to be somewhat slow. Being I shoot mainly in the day, I do not see the slightly slower AF on the GR3 to be a deterrent. The negatives for me are: I heard the X100f will allow you to use your camera as a viewfinder, the GR3 is not as stylish, I have bigger hands and need to test to see if the GR3 may be too small, battery life and it looked as the screen goes black while shooting in burst. None of these negatives are game changers to me. Of course I will need to put the GR3 in the hands to test the feel and the AF. The DSLRs will be available for less in your face type shots. Lastly, the entire AF section was hilarious. Thanks for the laugh and sincere thank yous for taking the time to create this video.

    I soon realized why this review is so good, the guy is german.
    German youtubers make american youtube millionaires look like kindergarten kids who found their daddy's old vhs camera and started recording by mistake.

    Yo your fashion sense in this video had me a little jelly. That trench jacket looks dope. Also, lmao, i had the video on the slowest speed so i could compare the film simulations, and i was going through the comments and kept seeing "most epic soundtrack for a camera video!" And "love the music" i forgot i had it on slow, so all i kept thinking was "a little depressing if you ask me" xD

    Great comparison. I thought there was quite a noticeable difference in image quality, although they were pretty close. The GRIII seemed sharper, and on a couple of shots I thought the X100F ones looked a little bit soft, even. I noticed a little CA in the one of the X100F shots too, but it wouldn't put me off. If I was buying, I'd choose the Ricoh, despite the poorer lowlight AF performance. I'd probably end up using snap focus a lot of the time anyway.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
    Although I'm strictly not a street photographer per se, but I was always tempted to try my luck with it.
    I've been meaning to buy a 35mm lens to pair it with my Canon 5DMK4, but it seems like I might go with a Ricoh GRII or GRIII in the end. Thank you for nudging me towards it.
    Love your work, love your videos. You've earned a new supporter on Patreon.

    I have to give credit to Ricoh, as it produces fantastic pictures with excellent quality. Although the X100F wins in terms of aesthetic appearance, I believe that Ricoh is a big winner when it comes to picture quality and value for money.

    I shoot with a fuji xt2 and really am intrigued by the small size and great image quality of the Ricoh. Looks like a great everyday carry camera that you do not need some kind of carry bag to bring with you. Thanks for such a detailed review.

    X100F is camera for another cases. GRlll was made to be with you everywhere. GRlll is not so comfortable in shooting process as X100F, but can be every time with you. These devices for different tasks. What is why GRIII should be compared with Fuji XF10 but not with X100F.

    This channel is maybe the best for street photography I've ever seen. What film emulation/settings on the fuji would you say gets closest to the positive on the ricoh?

    Dynamic range and sharpness of the GRIII blew me away. Especially with that close up of that lens cup. Now I'm curious how would X-T30/X-T3 do in that department, since they use a newer sensor. Great comparison!

    your last point is HUGE - enjoyment. People tend to overlook that and only see specs. If you hate your camera, you won't take it around with you. This is why I always talk hobbyists out of entry level DSLRs. get something small and fun instead.
