- I'm a huge Ricoh GR2 fan. So the Ricoh GR3 really needed to deliver in order to get me to upgrade. It took a week or so to adjust to all the changes. Now I could not see myself without it. I keep it with me at all times.
Like all cameras it has its negatives and the question is, as always, if they outweigh the positives? For me they aren’t even close.

your videos are a pleasure to watch.
Bought one and love it. With firmware 1.1 autofocus especially in low light has massively improved
Isä I am unable to format the memory card with the GR III, did you have this problem at all?
I don’t think we give you enough credit for your writing and producing skills. This was an excellent and uncluttered presentation.
Thanks, I normally try to keep it short but sometimes it needs a bit more weight.
Still waiting for your video on how to setup the GRiii :) Thank you for the good job!
Hey Mattias,
your video of the a7 was one of the reasons I sold my EOS 600D and bought a used a7 - and I'm more than happy I bought it! Thanks for your "a7 revisited" video!
Cool, lets hope you dont change your mind after I revisit the 600d :)
@@gearreallydoesntmatter LOL!
I'm always a big fan of reviews that openly discuss the downsides of a camera; no camera is perfect, and there are always compromises somewhere. Great review, really interesting to watch, and with a good mix of product details and real world images taken with the camera
As always, a great review. I love these pocketable APSC cameras. They are very versatile and their small size allows me to take them with me everywhere I go. I have a Fuji X70 which has even a workhorse for me, but if it died, I’d consider the GRIii as a replacement. My only objection is marketing. The small powerhouses are often marketed for street photography, but my experience is that they are a good all around family and vacation camera, too!
My all time favourite camera reviewer. Captures really beautiful images that show off the cameras potential. It’s informative in a story telling way and a voice so calming he could make a meditation tape. Thanks for the upload!
Mattias, you are the truth! Of all the reviews that I've seen on this camera, you're the only reviewer that mentioned an off-camera solution for the flash! Thank you! Big ups to you!
Thanks, Im glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for a great review, Mattias. Your videos are the only ones I watch in normal playback speed - because of your soothing voice and cool music. :-) Love the shot of Gunpowder with the GRiii in front of her! Thanks again!
Thank you, very kind of you :)
Oh man, don’t leave us hanging for the custom modes setup video, master! I enjoy this camera every day, thank you very much.
you're one of the best in reviewing cameras, that's it!
Now I'll wait a dedicated video to your camera settings and flash use :)
A very well thought out video. I'm glad that the GRiii meets your and other photographers needs. For my needs I'll continue looking.
Best,
Duane
Another brilliant review Mattias. I’m in the market for a daily carry camera and because of your review the GR III is currently the front runner. Thank you.
Stellar review! All the stuff I cared about was covered. I love your flash solution and you're absolutely right: it belongs off the camera!
Glad you liked it :)
Was waiting for this review more than for the Game of Thrones :D Thank you, going to buy one in 2 weeks
did you get it?
Did you get it?
did you get it?
Did you get it?
40 images with internal memory is so alike to film rolls lol
Yeah it's cool that it's good to go out of the box.
I am forgetful, this could be a life saver at times.
I thought the same Naher when Matthias said 40 raw pictures.
It's very handy when you realize you left the SD card in your laptop at home. Not that I've ever done that, of course...
@@bcostin of course not ... ;)
A fantastic longer video; so true what you mentioned regarding just taking shots as you never know which one you'll be proud of. Great work!
Stop making great videos of cameras you will be the reason we're broke 🏧💸
Nikos Chatzikonstantinos So true Nikos...

So true!! - I have one sitting in the basket .... I can’t quite bring myself to click! - I have come back to watch this again! 😂
Lol....Spot on!!
Completely agreed. He has convinced me to get a compact camera like ricoh gr iii and fuji x100t or x100v. I have z6 which i purchased recently. Now m hooked to the idea of having a compact camera!
You are actually an important reason why I bought Ricoh gr iii and you have a beautiful and informative way to review things.
Thank you.
Thank you for a great honesty review/showcase of this fantastic underrated camera. Love using it beyond what expected of it
I love how you focus on the things that actually matter! How the camera feels, what it’s like to use, and they real drawbacks. Not just specs and nit picking. Love the videos lately. Keep them coming!
Thanks, I'm happy to hear like-minded people enjoy them :)
I love the back button to autofocus while in snap mode! I didn't even realize that was an option.
Packed with rewarding actual-use tips, minus the all too common FUD peddled elsewhere. What an appetizer.
Your videos are the best. Thanks so much for putting so much time and effort into them.
No prob :)
Top notch review, Mattias! You always seem to cover all the essentials in an interesting way. Keep up the good work!
I'm glad you like it :)
Man, I love your reviews! I still remember the Nikon videos you did! Those got me to love the one I had, instead of switching brands because everyone else was doing it.
Stick to what you got, thats the best way to evolve :)
Might be your best review to date. great work! Just bought the Fujifilm x100F...might get this one just for fun.
yay a new Mattias video is up, time to make a cup of coffee and relax!
Ricoh makes some magic cameras, and this one is no exception. I still love my GXR, with both the 28mm and 50mm modules, which still captures pristine images for its size. Stellar review as always, Mattias.
The GXR is awesome.
This review has help me decide to pick up a GRiii soon, and, more generally, your reviews have definitely helped improve my photography! Thanks!
I hope it won't disappoint :)
Great review, I love my GR1, and now loving my GR3
You are the best! I wish I have photography skills like you. There is so much life in your pictures. I can feel the passion.
Very kind of you :)
Nice review, nice images, thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing it with us all
My pleasure :)
The fact that Pentax can stabilize that little sucker makes the statements from Fuji that they cannot bring stabilization to the X-T series, because they are so small, very confusing to me. :) Great review, as always, Mattias!
What Pentax / Ricoh, Olympus and Minolta could do for so many years hasn't proved to be so easy for other camera manufacturers. Sony solved that issue by acquiring Minolta, but many other manufacturers haven't been really been up to the task so far. Every digital camera I've ever paid money for has had it, and I consider it absolutely essential. This is the reason I would never even consider the XT-3, but would take a long hard look at the X-H1.
If they added 4K as well it would probably over heat doing it. Fuji has taken the video road and will have to stay on it for now. But man, imagine a stills oriented XE3 or Xpro2. Like their version of the Nikon DF.
Just bought one. Excited to use it when it arrives.
Enjoy!
So smooth , so relaxing and so amazing review... You are awesome bro.. Your reviews are so melody to watch.
Great Review. I just ordered mine a few days ago and it is in backorder. Excited to take pictures in Desert Southwest with harsh light and amazing sunset. 👍 thank for the review.
Great review as always! Without being negative. Thanks Matthias. And nice to see some images from Copenhagen.
There are some negatives in there, just no drama :)
fantastic review, photos and camera! Thanks for the video. oh, and your dog is so cute!
After watching your GR3 camera review and 6 month review many times, I’ve finally started my application to rent one for 6 month! I’m still indecisive between gr3 and x100v, but I think I’ll make more use out of gr3 because it’s more portable and pocketable.
Thank you for your detailed reviews.
Have you decided? 😅
Confirmed the king of street is back (in my pocket)!
Mattias, a great review of the GR3 - just bought the camera and agree with nearly everything you say. The GR3 goes everywhere and encourages you to take images like no other camera. With a Fuji 100F, part of literally the dynamic duo of compacts - in fact one could get by with just those 2 cameras and nothing else.
I must have watched this video 100+ times easily ! I really want this camera, but waiting for the price to drop a little more....all I can do for now is live vicariously through Mattias lol !
My GR 2 is a tank. Ive dropped it about 20 times. Dropped in 3 streams. Fully submerged. Let it dry for a few days without the battery in. No problem. The lens doors get stuck sometimes when I turn it on. No problem. A couple taps on a table and it pops open every time. Its a tank. Going to get the GR3 once it finally dies. Not sure when that will be. It will not die.
A part of me tells me to unsubscribe. Mattias can review a tin foil hat and I still want to buy it.
What I also admire bout you is that you can easily dive on thru the specs and functions. I have a lumix Gx8, and to tell you honestly, I can’t even understand or use it to the fullest. I feel like i need tutoring. I hope you have a gx8 and help us. But all in all, i just love your videos. Very entertaining
I just play around with them :)
Great review of a great camera. Really wished for an articulating screen on the Grlll. I really miss this feature so often with my GrII. Still impressive work Ricoh is doing with the series. A 23mm lens version would also be very interesting.
Your videos are really amazing and such a pleasure to watch. Great info and presentation could not be better! Thank you
I'm very glad you liked it!
Two or three years ago I trolled one of your Fuji vids a tiny bit thinking that you were a GR fan that didn't know it yet. I'm happy to report I was right. :D
Thanks for all your vids - they're some of the best out there.
**I pre-ordered the GRIII because I simply trust this line (after using so many) and was not let down, yet again. With the recent firmware update it shoots in lowlight as good as the older CCD versions. And a truck-load of improvements to boot. I couldn't be happier with this little monster.
Been shooting with it for 2 months now and love it. The maneuverability it gives me on the street, along with the quality of those images, makes this street ninja a must have for street photography.
Agreed. It doesn't feel like bringing a camera anymore. Thats why I had that thumbnail on the last video. Its like grabbing the keyes, wallet and phone. A part of the outfit.
I used to carry my 5d mk iv and an L lens, mortified I’d break it, just to shoot street. That baby is home safe and sound now. Thank you for your reviews!
Great review, great images. Can't wait to see your future video on your preferred settings.
Recently bought this Ricoh on your recommendation to carry light for a bachelor party trip to Montreal, I just got back and it’s now my favorite camera....thank you
I'm glad it worked out for you :)
Sold my x100f and bought the GR lll. Lovin’ it.
Chris Kano did the exact same thing
@@molefonken why?
Daniel Wiedner Fotografie Let me tell you why GR III is a great little camera:
- Size, button accessibility
- Sharp lens
- Customization
- Highlight-weighted metering
- RAW crop and fast image sync
- IS
- Better histogram than Fuji
- Snap focus
I don’t want anything bigger because it doesn’t fit my style of shooting.
i heard it has in body stabilization
YES! Been waiting for this one, awesome review! Thanks for sharing Mattias 🤘🏻
I hope it was worth the wait :)
Mattias Burling mostly definitely! You’re the one reviewer that doesn’t get lost in the specs and really dive in the feel and experience the camera delivers 👍🏻
I always love watching your videos! you're such a great photographer and your dog is such a great subject haha. thanks for being so informative and making such wholesome and great content ❤️
Excellent review. You understand how these cameras have been designed to be worked. I’ve got a GXR, it’s a great camera. I’ve been waiting for this update of the GR with great anticipation.
I wouldn’t suggest the GR is for everyone, but if after consideration it seems to be on your wavelength, take a day to learn it, they are such well thought out cameras. Nothing like them in my opinion.
Matthias, this is the best camera review video I have seen! It is very well produced! Well done! But, you ‘bastard’ have released my GAS again! It sounds like Ricoh have made a classic from a classic. Thanks Matthias.
As always great videos !
And definitely this one will be my next camera! Thanks for the video I was waiting for it since the first video you’ve done on it !
I hope it doesn't disappoint if you get one :)
Absolutely not ! :)
Such a great an honest review. I love that you don't fall for the useless "cons" and tell people that in real life that's not a problem if you do off camera flash or bring a usb c charger which many people already do
As always, your expertise exceeds previous presentations. Simplicity, great pacing, and dynamic photos capture the viewer. Most presenters will smash on the negatives of a product, but you gently graced over them and yet not ignored them. It is the image that we want to reveal at the end anyway. A great pleasure to watch.
Great review. I think I am going to have to watch it a couple more times to absorb all the information. I sold my GRII because I really needed a viewfinder and I didn’t like the UI. Hmmm - after this am I going to go back to Ricoh? Tempting.
Always enjoying your videos.... Been waiting for gr3.... I New the video will be something else! Great job!
Wow, this camera is amazing, and you've taken some really lovely pics with it. (The shots of your doggie never get old! Such an expressive face.) You've given me lots of food for thought. Thanks for explaining the highlighted weighted metering (wow!), preset manual method of setting focus, and your external flash setup.
very nice review - so good to see one from somebody who really knows their way around it.
A great comprehensive review, thank you very much!
What a brilliant review Mattias . Been considering getting this camera , I think you’ve convinced me despite a few flaws . Happy New Year 🥳
Many thanks for your review. I liked it a lot! Ordered the Ricoh Gr 3 in mid april and now I’m patiently waiting for it to arrive. Still on preorder...
Wow that's crazy. They have been in stock here for ages. Hope you get it soon :)
Thank you. You have just convinced me that I need one !
Great review. I hope your vacation was great as well.
Thanks, it was :)
OMG, been waiting for this like foreve
I hope it was worth the wait.
Great review! I’m a GRi owner with a GRiii on order. Glad to see that your review justified my choice and put the negative comments on other reviews in context. I always carry an extra battery anyway; they’re tiny. I thought that I’d miss some functionality with the GRiii like the Fn2 button, but maybe the touch screen can make up for it.
The touch has it's place if one gives it a chance.
I received mine 20 days ago. It has never left my pocket. That makes me take pictures every day.
Same here. Every single day I have it with me.
Great Review Mattias... I love your honesty!
His voice/delivery makes the video 5x better !
Excellent review! First time I've ever finished a video review of any gear.
Been waiting for this, awesome as always!
Have already the digital I, II, III en IV and the GR. So I'm a GR fan. Now I have for four days the GR III. So happy with these one.
Cool collection :)
You persuaded me to buy this in the future because you shoot fantastic.
This is the best review for this camera !!
I'm glad you liked it :)
So many things to comment on! First off, lovely images as always! If I've learned one thing from all of your videos, it's that no matter what camera you're using, you still retain your style and can capture great photos! I really liked the one at 0:30.
Second: The highlight weighted metering sounds awesome! I believe that if I had that capability on my Fuji cameras, I would shoot more in aperture priority.
Third: I spy some Kentucky Bourbon! Nice touch. ;)
Lastly, that Q trigger and flash looks so cool! Perfect combo for a "pocket" camera.
1. Thanks :)
2. Yeah it lends itself for AV or manual with auto ISO.
3. Yup, love to make burbon based drinks :)
you have the eyes and hands of a photography god. you really take the 'the best camera is the one you have' to whole other level.
Man, such a great review! I totally love your style. This makes me want the GR III so bad 🙈
I'm glad you liked the video!
Another great video, I love my new GR lll also can wait to see your setup video.
Very helpful video. My GRIII arrived today. I look forward to your video of the settings you use. I am new to snap focus and need to learn it.
I think I've said this on your last video about this camera as well, but I've been waiting on your opinion about the GRIII before deciding to buy it or not.
I love your reviews and I can definetly agree to all the points you ever made about any camera in your reviews (apart from the RED One ;) ). So hearing you say it's great and better then the GRII and so on, pushed me over the edge! Just ordered one ;)
Then I really hope it won't be like the Red One :)
@@gearreallydoesntmatter haha, hope so too :D
Love highlight-weighted spot metering; I miss that a ton on my Fuji compared to my D7500. Glad to know someone else values that feature!!
Wow that SOOC video is excellent. You can say it's a bit saturated, but for social media it's bang on.
The way you timed up the the off camera flash segment with the music made me rewind to rewatch it like 5 times.
Cool :)
Really looking forward to the settings video you mentioned as a new GR III owner!
I didn't consider you being a camera reviewer because of your style, but with this video I can see you're one of the top, man, not many cameras satisfy you like the GR3, great work!
Perfect review....right on point. The price is a bit high in NYC ..the loss of the flash is more of a disappointment than the price point because it will come down. And you found the perfect solution for the flash. Oh, the battery I can deal with. Thanks once again!
Please make a video of your post processing on this camera too. Thanks.
Great review, with Samuel Streetlife's, probably the best I’ve seen for this camera.
I wish I could press "like" several times for this videoreview. It´s awesome 😁
I hope I can keep my GRii for many years to come. I love it.
Great review and amazing shots!
Sooooooo good! Nice video, i was pumped like a GOT new episode!
Im glad you enjoyed it! :)
Excellent as always
