    At last a video I can understand. After selling all my camera gear some months ago I decided to adopt the Ricoh GR system as I’m getting a bit past it, 74yrs old, to be carting heavy equipment’s around. I’ve just bought the GRIIIx and still getting to grips with everything but certainly considering to source a used GRIII which has the wider field of vision. Once again thanks for taking the time to explain things in a way an old fossil like me can understand.

      Just an update. The company I bought the lllx from very kindly agreed to exchange it for a lll so sent lllx back. Had to wait for new stock but got there in the end. Much prefer the wider angle of view.

    Just stumbled by this video. Good explanation at the correct pace! One tip regarding snap focus: by keeping the macro button pressed and turning the front wheel, you can change the focus distance.

    Excellent video! Thank you. I’ve always loved my Ricoh, but now I can’t wait to get out and shoot some more with it. This was the best explanation and demonstration of snap mode functions. 🙏🏻

    Great video.. this camera is one H of a machine. I just picked up my GR3 yesterday and since then, I've been trying to learn how the buttons/functions work - basically in sequence with one another. There are a few things that I'm having an issue with but like everything else, it takes an bit of time invested in order master the machine.

    Boy, what a time I had updating the firmware yesterday. I wish Ricoh would take a leaf out of Fujifilm’s book and make life easier for the GR users and have the app wirelessly do the firmware update.
    With my X100v, all I had to do was connect the camera to the app wirelessly, select download the update, and install.
    Ricoh (okay it helps to read the destructions fully) is still in the dark ages by making you download an update, open it (on the Mac mini M1, it kept saying it can’t open this file (even though I’d did open it)) then drag the .bin file onto a formatted card (an SD card formatted in the camera larger than 32Gb (I stupidly put a 1Gb card in 🥸🤣 at first) before switching on (holding down the power and menu buttons, something you don’t need to do in the Fuji).
    If it wasn’t for you putting the link in to take me to the download page I’d still be looking for the website now… Ricoh/Pentax’s website is probably the worst website anywhere (I still haven’t been able to register my GRIIIX on my account yet! As it point blankly refuses to accept my serial number of my camera!).
    I’m not all that impressive with the new centre weight focus setting as it still seems to want to photograph the foreground rather than in the centre…
    Oh, and while I’m on about Ricoh, the GRIIIX is a great we camera but boy, is the menu a mess… managed to switch the camera into movie mode after doing the firmware update and somehow got it into movie mode and couldn’t get back to stills! Argh! 🤬
    Ended up changing one of the buttons (the wifi button) to stills/movie switching and got out of it… had it previously set for some other setting… I know I’m getting on a bit… 65 but I’m not senile yet (hopefully never 😶).
    Best regards from a doddery, curmudgeonly, old git 🤣

    Thanks for a great video. Do you have a preference for the photometry ( exposure) setting you prefer when in the auto modes.

    • @photostuff

      I generally shoot AP and any of the metering modes depending on conditions. I usually underexpose 1/3 or so.

    Hi , Do you know is it possible to save and keep images on the internal memory and use them as a data base essentially to pair with currently taken images and combine with the multiple exposure function?

    Nice settings!
    I didn’t know about the AEL :)
    Did you know u can hold the macro button and the front dial to change your snap distance?
    That way you could free one slot in the adj mode to choose the focus mode you assigned to the movie button.
    I have it that way and I assigned the quick movie button to crop mode ;)

    • @photostuff
      @photostuff  2 года назад +1

      Thank you, and yes you can. Change your focus mode to snap, and you can hold the macro position and change the snap distance with the front dial. It’s a bit tricky though, with one hand.

  • @bricehendriks

    Last question ;) How can you change the shutter speed to like 500 if you want to take a picture of somebody walking or for example an animal? Do you change to snap focus then? Big thank you for all the videos! Highly appreciate it! And I'm in freaking love with the gr3x.

    • @photostuff
      @photostuff  2 года назад +2

      if you want to set a shutter speed to a fixed value, you can run the camera in in Shutter Priority (Tv) or manual mode. In manual mode I recommend using auto ISO.
      Another option is to just set the minimum shutter speed to 500 and keep shooting in Av - aperture priority.

    When in shooting mode, does rocking the ADJ. lever only change exposure compensation (in P, S, and A modes) or shutter speed (in M mode), or can you customize it to change other settings like snap focus distance? Thank you, happy holidays!

    • @photostuff
      @photostuff  8 месяцев назад

      Hi, great question!
      I’m pretty sure that in one of the auto modes, A,P,S you can not move EV-comp off it.
      In Manual mode you can decide if it will do shutter or aperture.
      Happy holidays to you too!😀

  • @bricehendriks

    Can I ask where you got your GRIII X?
    I thought the camera was delayed across the board from all dealers. I assume you ordered it direct from Ricoh? I ordered mine from Park Cameras and the release date has been pushed back twice. Big shout out to them!

      Hi Chris, I live in Scandinavia and noticed one of my "local" online stores had it in stock on their webshop. They had already sold out in their two bricks and mortor stores in Copenhagen, Denmark. I don't think it was delayed in Scandinavia, it just sold out really fast. I was just lucky I guess.
