A really useful video, so many thanks for producing it. It's a pity Ricoh has never seen fit to produce a more helpful user manual. It seems to me that the only way to figure out how this camera really works is by experimenting with it and watching videos like this.
Dear Frederick… I wanted to thank you for all the brilliant, entertaining and extremely useful videos that you produce, they are my ‘go to’ source for all things photographic! I’d also like to wish you and all your family very best wishes for the coming year! Many, many thanks again and keep well… John
Thank you John for your very kind words! They mean a lot to me, and when the footage won't turn out as I want it to or I find that I have recorded 1/2 hour video without sound and want to throw something heavy at my video camera, it is comments like these I remember to keep me going! All the best wishes for you and your family and may your photography in 2023 be even better than it was in 2022! Best, Frederik.
Well said John. Frederik is knowledgeable and a Gentleman. I prefer his no nonsense no glaring music style of videos. Hah, I hit the like button before I start watching his videos! Stay well John.
Nice video for beginners, may I ask one question that when using Manual focus, how can we select which object (at the same depth) that we want to focus on ? By touching the object on the screen ?
Manual focus means that you move the focal plane back and forth manually. So there is no point to focus on in that sense. You'll need to move the focus plane to a position where your object of choice is sharp.
Hello Frederik! Very well done video. I love the layout on the back of that camera. They sorted it out nicely. Lots of good features. It looks like the LCD has good resolution. Is it easy to use outside in the bright light? I’ve used similar cameras in the past, with lack of viewfinders, and it can be a challenge. Of course cams today are so much more advanced. I really like the DOF feature, very clever. Kudos on a good buy, and it looks like the box was included! very nice! Take care my friend! 👍📷✌
Hi George, and thank you! I was surprised to find how quickly I got used to the lack of a viewfinder. My Sony RX100M3 has one and I was afraid I would miss it, but no! It's winter time so I cannot say if the LCD will make it in bright sunlight, but I mainly use it for framing and let the focus system do a lot of the hard work, so it is a different way of working than when you have a viewfinder. Only issue is that the "shooting position" kind of reminds me of middle aged men reading newspapers in defiance of their presbyopia! 😄
Nope. The modes Pinpoint AF, Tracking, Continuous AF, Manual, Snap and Infinity are shared between the two cameras- the other modes are specific for the GRiii.
I just want the focus patch to be always in the center of the screen. How do I lock it in place? Which mode do I go for? I do not want my grubby fingers to move it accidentally. Is there a way to do it? Thank you!
thank you, these are really helpful, so many clueless people learning easily here!
😂🙏🏻

Is the the best video about this that I've seen, thank you!
🙏🏻👍
Thanks. Will try the infinity mode + aperture + checking the distance for landscape photo's.
👍
Perfect! So substantial and useful video!
Many thanks bro!

Thank you for letting me know Arun! It means a lot!

Davs , great video. I have the gr 2 . Is the focus alternative the same on my camera ?
Nope. The modes Pinpoint AF, Tracking, Continuous AF, Manual, Snap and Infinity are shared between the two cameras- the other modes are specific for the GRiii.
@@frederikboving kan jag inte flytta min focus punkt ? Utan den är "fast" i mitten ?
@@tjenatja817Yes that should be possible- try tapping the screeen, use the command wheel or shift to one of the less automated modes.

ruclips.net/video/_EMzjnP-4s4/видео.htmlsi=my_ZHieIgT2wkE1r - I believe the auto area AF 2:55 into the video is what you are after.
@@frederikboving Thanks. But not really, I just want a single focus point. I prefer to focus on a subject, lock focus and then reframe.
Which is best focus mode for portraits ?
If you want full automation, I would select Auto Area AF mode and turn face detection on.
I always forget this camera has a touch screen 🤦♂️😂
🤣
Danish accent yes ?
Indeed!
