Yet another big shout out to my mate Ashley for loaning me this Steiny! My first Steiny, and I must admit no real surprises. The photos of this watch suggest that the hands and bezel insert are cheap, and they are! HA! A few niggles, but none that could not be fixed by picking another watch from their line up. A serious contender this one. Cheers, Jody

I have this in the 39 GMT and along with my Moonie, this gets the most wrist time. I love the silky smooth winding when it is off my wrist - I smile every time I wind it. For the money, this can't be beat. They also have a very lovely pink mother of pearl 39 diver for that special woman in your life.

The GMT hand lines perfectly. Take my word sir. Yesterday I was in the steinhart boutique in Aachen (A town here in Germany) and I had them all in my hands. I watches your video bevore and so I did not want the GMT version whe I entered the boutique. But when I was in the boutique and checkted them out. They lined up PERFECTLY. I asked the holder of the boutique about that issue and he told me if such misslineing should happen he would send this particular piece back to get a propper one. In the end I bought the black GMT with ceramic insert for under 500€.

    Fantastic watch and review...
"alot of people are complaining about the GMT not lining up on the dial? WAT?!?!?
    😂
The GMT lines up with the bezel markers not the dial markers..
    - readjust gmt again for it to land on the bezel marker between 10-12, of which is 1100 hrs.
The dial time is 1:55pm and the GMT 24hr scale time is read on the bezel, of which is 1055hrs.

Just picked up the 39mm GMT Pepsi jubilee. Lots of the 5 things Jody didn't like are taken away... Smaller size, bezel insert actually looks pretty good (mostly due to the metal on the edge of the bezel is thinner), GMT hand lines up. I do have to agree the cyclops is not super magnifying, but it is better in person than in pictures. The lume though is dull, but lasts the night.
The 39mm is well worth the money!!!!

Gnomon now offers replacement LUMED ceramic bezels for the various Steinhart 39mm and 42mm GMT bezels. I just put a lumed Pepsi bezel on my 42mm Ocean Vintage One, and it is a big enhancement on looks and utility. The lume on the bezel is bright and matches the hands and indices perfectly and the ceramic enhances the looks of the entire watch considerably. Mine is still running at +2 seconds per day after 3 years and I've experienced no issues with it whatsoever.

Watch arrived today. Ocean One ‘Pepsi’ with a Jubilee bracelet. GMT hand is spot on - as far as I can tell. As each second mark on the dial represents 24 minutes, the GMT hand is not a precision indicator - have to use the minute hand for that. GMT does allign with an hour mark when minute hand is at 12. Interestingly, Steinhart took almost two days shipping my watch after order this time - perhaps your video did have an effect on their QA process.

I agree with allot of the comments concerning the GMT misalignment. It should be a deal breaker. I am a huge fan of Bernhardt watches and they happen to have two styles of GMT watches, both with the ETA 2836 movt. The Binnacle GMT is $624 and the Corsair GMT is $679. They come with really nice solid SS oyster bracelets with screw adjust links. They periodically have sales with good discounts. Anyway, if you are looking for a GMT, it's worth your time to check Bernhardt (made in America). Another great review Jody. Keep 'em coming and maybe throw some Bernhardt watch reviews for 2020. Yes, Jody. I completely agree with you on your 5 things good & bad. a year ago, I had bought this watch from Gnomon, but as you said, I really hated the cyclops, and dull looking dial and boring clasp. So I had to sell it and buy something else.
As for Cyclops, I believe it is an easy fix and shouldn't cost much if Tisell and even Pagani sub can do it right. And for the dial, at least they can make it shinny black. For clasp, it is a mystery to me. Not just Steinhart, but so many micro brands / mid priced watches use exactly same clasp over and over again. There got to be something else more functional and interesting clasps around... Thanks for the review Jody.

Thank you for reviewing a Steinhart & thanks to Ashley for his generosity - sharing it with us and the JOMW camera. I have been tempted SO many times by the Steinhart catalog. They sure do look good on paper! They offer so much and they are priced well compared to some other homage watches. I just never pulled the trigger because 1) I was waiting to see one thru the JOMW lens, and 2) I did not think much of the flat design of the case & lugs. My wrist is curved - shouldn't my watch also be curved? Anyway, thanks again for getting one for review - it was worth the wait. I look forward to hearing what you think when you get a Steinhart 39mm on your world map! (I can see the Steinhart staff nudging & elbowing each other, saying, "See! We were right to ignore his e-mails!") Maybe so, but I thought it was a fair and honest review.

I don't get why people with larger wrists don't think they can wear normal, yes, normal sized watches. Nobody on this planet can't pull off a 40mm watch.
This whole ladies wearing larger watches thing is really cutting into men's insecurities.
Any gentleman, no matter how big should be able to confidently wear even a 38.
Can't go by size alone either, many watches wear larger or smaller than their physical dementions.
Nothing is more of a factor than lug to lug, and case height. I don't really put much consideration into case diameter below 44mm.

I have the jubilee version on order. I haven't received it yet, but there are a few things I don't like:
    1. Underpowered cyclops
    2. Not a Maxi dial
    3. Aluminum bezel (would prefer non-vintage ceramic pepsi)
    4. Printed bezel numerals (would prefer etched/engraved)
    5. Dial could be blacker (black enamel please)
If Davosa produced a Ternos Professional GMT with a ceramic non-vintage Pepsi bezel, I would have that in a heartbeat. I confirmed with Davosa customer service yesterday that they have not developed a red/blue ceramic bezel.

I even have a 7.25-7.5" wrist, and they always felt too big. I just bought a San Martin Pepsi GMT, and I love everything about it. I wish it were Swiss Made with a 2893-2 elabore for $200-400 more, but you can't have everything. Between the SM GMT and the Tisell Marine Diver, I think they are a perfect homage pair.

Dad's passed now but I often have that baby on my wrist. He also gave me a hand winding Benrus that many returning soldiers had. Mom worked for Bulova with my aunt.. so I have a nice Bulova tank style. Recently bought a Baltic Aquascaphe and have been loving it. Jody, I bought the Ocean Titanium 500 GMT Premium and actually considered having it sent to you to unbox! I don't think I have the misalignment issue with the GMT hand and think it may be because of the movement's "élaboré" specification. Now I'm curious and will have to check it when I get home. Compared to this particular model though I'd say the Titanium has most of the pluses with few of the minuses. I have been wearing it quite a lot and love it!

I have a 6.75" wrist and the 42mm works very well for me. I also have this watch and the Premium blue with a ceramic bezel and their ceramic bezels are a bit too reflective. The Aluminum bezel might be the preference till the start engraving their ceramics. I actually like the dial. Cyclops could be more magnifying, not sure why brands don't do better in this respect (does Rolex have the corner on magnifying glass?). I don't have the issue with the GMT hand and I like the dial fine. The hands might be more distinctive but it doesn't bother me that much.

Funny Coincidence - ordered this beautiful watch yesterday to supplement my blue Ocean One Premium. And a hint - you are complaining Steinhart is not sending you free watches .. How about doing like me and supporting them by buying one ? - If you decide to pass it on, resell value is high, close to original price.
Steinhart makes amazing watches - they differ from most other homage manufacturers - by offering top movements. Basic line has ETA 2824 Elaboré rather than the usual NH35 or Miyota movements. My Ocean One premium runs at an average of + 0.2 seconds/day after a quick adjustemt.

Yew, my GMT hand did not line up; I bought the 39mm with the charcoal-grey ceramic bezel. I had my watchmaker re-align the hands for me, and he said it was very fiddly to do so because the watch was so thin that there was, of necessity, a very limited clearance for the hand-stack. He advised me that a hard knock could easily put them out of alignment again.

The GMT alignment is just one issue of Steinhart a company with a poor track record on quality control based on my experience and comments on chat groups. I have yet to see one Steinhart where the GMT hand is properly aligned (see at least 12 now in Real Life). Another common problem is the bezel alignment or rather the lack of it. I have the Steinhart Ocean 500 GMT Titanium with both GMT and bezel miss-alignment. The case machining is atrocious and I really do mean it is abysmal and is misaligned (skew) on every axis so all the lugs are asymmetrical (different length/widths) and the finishing around the crown is really rough. Further the screw down crown does not go into the case symmetrically. Another common criticism the screws come out of the bracelet (yeap I had that problem so carry a jewellers screw driver around ) and I also have the problem that machining of the spring bars and the holes means they are not aligned and a bit shallow so I have had on several occasions the spring bar pulling out. The case shape with its very flat lugs makes this size comfortable on those with large and flat wrists - it wears very large for the apparent size. You are spot on with the observation that selection of the right Steinhart watch is critical. A local agency brings them in so I have seen most of the range. To me the 39 mm with the ceramic bezel are the options especially if you can get it on the more comfortable Jubilee bracelet. Don't waste money of their "Premium" line all you are getting is a sapphire back. Avoid all of their Titanium watches - the subcontractor that makes these is simply incompetent. I have seen three now and the quality is poor in all cases and would not trust the water resistance ratings. Certainly I would not swim or shower with it as the crown does not screw flush with the case. My watch has been sent back to Steinhart about three weeks ago it through the retailer I bought it from at my own expense and I wait to see what they will do. As I understand it there is no Steinhart manufacturing plant, it is all done through a subcontractor at one of 12 production facilities and here-in lies the caution. What I have heard is they take a minimum of two months to resolve Quality Control issues.

Steinhart seem to be great watches for the price. But I read that some people felt that the lugs are too flat and makes the watch too flat on the wrist. And when I look at Steinhart website all 39mm divers with window on the backside have GMT hand.
I am not interested in that and only find it another unnecessary feature and detail on the dial.

Totally agree about the boring black dial. It really is very meh! I got one of these on a jubilee. The Jubilee and the pepsi gave it zing but that black borders on depressing. They could have raised the indicies more for contrast or introduced colour to the indicies. Or maybe a tropic dial. (The 39 vintage looks way better but way too small for me). Mine had nice blue lume and actually glowed all night - it was quite decent. But what really ticked me off was the uselessness of the GMT hand. Sorry, the GMT hand MUST be accurate or there's no point in having it. Mine was WAY off and so I sent the watch back quickly under warranty. Gnomgnom were very good about it and issued a refund promptly. Good review!
