My favorite everyday watch is seiko sgg731p1. They cost about 150$. Light titanium watch with sapphire crystal and good water resistant is what I was looking for. And of course it's quartz watch for that price. I would appreciate if you do review for this model.
Terrific review. I bought the blue no date model, and it's the prettiest watch in my collection. The bezel insert glows all night long, and its beautiful. It's become my favorite in my rotation. Thanks for making us aware of this excellent timepiece.
@@JustOneMoreWatch yes you are right. I thought it was under $300 😅. Recently it was on massdrop for $335 with shipping to Europe. The Richard le Grand is $327 with shipping. So I think the Glycine is a better deal.
I’ll take the Zelos swordfish all day long over RL for 300. The Zelos is a legitimate 300m dive watch with amazing lume and no cheap push pins in the bracelet. It comes with a wooden box, and a leather strap as well. The RL can’t compete with that.
I own the Swordfish as well... love it but the edges are a bit sharp... may be the only nod to the RL as I prefer it's aesthetics, the swordfish of course has better specs
I love the Swordfish but, again, it is a NH35 movement that costs $35 (solid but nothing special). The Myota 9015 (on the Phoibos PY007C) is in a different league, in my opinion.
I have an Islander Isl-05. 38mm saphyre crystal ceramic bezel hacking handwinding and bright lume also on bezel. 200m water resist. Day date. Us$ 299. 13mm thick.
I love how you spotlight brands that the casual watch enthusiast like myself would miss. I still prefer my Samurai but this one is a very appealing and a compelling option. Thanks again for another great review! Happy Friday :)
I have the 12-hour bezel model and actually really like the framing effect of the black bezel around the blue dial. That bezel style is generally underrated, too, I think. It can obviously be used as a poor man’s GMT, but it is also useful as a timer if you happen to need to keep track of hours rather than minutes. I’ve been sick for the past week and using it to track my medication. Turn the arrow to the hour hand whenever I take a dose and then when the hour hand hits 5 I know it’s time for another dose.
bravo pointing out the end link difference. us small wrist guys really have to start paying attention to these details and praising the companies who do this well.
I picked up a Bulova Lunar Pilot new for $289 in October and it hasn’t left my wrist since. Before that I only wore divers. The Bulova is big but doesn’t wear big on my 7” wrist at all. Leather strap dresses up for formal, and I wear a NATO/NASA style Velcro for every day use. It just a great everyday watch. I love it, more than a lot of my autos. I love the story behind the watch too.
Best diver at the $300 price point. Only reason I sold mine was the fact I'm transitioning my collection to 40mm and under peices... And with that, my purchase of the 38mm Christopher Ward Trident C60 Pro 600, replaced the Odyssea's spot in my watch box. Great video, review, and a great watch. Edit: the one down side of the date version is the lack of a frame for the date window.
Tissot T-Sport V8 Swissmatic Automatic, an allround wrist-companien that does the job at the 300 dollar mark. It actually lookes like the RL Odyssea as well... Great stuff!
Great video, thanks. My favourite sub $300 watch (was £250) has got to be my Heimdallr custom made Vintage Mechanical Diver, a 6105 8110 homage which towers over every other 6105 8110 (including Seiko's and their Prospex re-issue) very traditional look without overdone blue AR coating or shiny ceramic bezel insert, opting instead for aluminium bezel insert and a domed sapphire crystal, the case finishing is of a much higher standard and it has a Swiss ETA 2824-2. Beautiful handset and applied logo & hour markers, the light play is exceptional on this piece. Gets more positive comments than any of my other watches. The RL bears a passing resemblence to Steeldive's SD1952, the handset is in same style, dial is similar too.
I agree however im still not sure which to go with since I like the odyssea dial much more...yet 007 has a better movement imo. decisions decisions lol
I get tired of the Rolex clone thing. That ceramic sunburst dial is pretty spectacular. Maybe the star of the show at least in conjunction with the Sapphire bezel...... Nice design language too.
it's me I love the Samurai. And yes, Seiko does have a well known history. I just recently bought an SARB035 and can’t keep it off my wrist. Holding out for a Helm Vanuatu as a 007/009 alternative.
Jody, the Richard LeGrand looks amazing, very classy. But is it tough? I find myself always putting on my Orient Ray 2 Black PVD, looks the goods, goes well on multiple NATO's and beats the skx (sorry but it does) for features; it hacks, it handwinds. Insanely accurate too at about +4 P/day. I do fancy the RLG with the GMT bezel as a more dressy piece. Thanks again for another great vid, your advice is appreciated and your channel certainly a favourite.
Phil Crowe Agreed. I would add another detail: The Ray (or Mako) also beat SKX for everyday use because of the lower profile sloped bezel. Although not as easy to grip due to the low profile, they are nicer looking and more functional with a dress shirt than SKX. I believe the Orients are more adaptable to more situations.
@@SirLoinOfsteak85 had it for over a year, PVD has not even a scratch. Highly recommended, though I tossed the bracelet for some NATO's also with PVD hardware
Seikos have a cool esthetic for sure. Many of them. I won't be buying them until they start using Sapphire and put a hackable movement into their 200-300 dollars range watches. Way too little band for buck beyond the base 75 dollar models. It's really ridiculous, IMO.
Everyday watch=Citizen Promaster, eco drive, professional diver's 200m, black dial on black rubber strap. Crown and date at 4. But way $300. Also an Omega James Bond Seamaster but much >$300. Plus, two Seiko divers. I usually always grab the Citizen. Maybe next I need to get the PHOIBOS Men's PX005C 1000M dive watch you reviewed that looks like my everyday Citizen. At just under $300 U.S.D. that automatic Phoibos with sapphire crystal and an added black rubber strap would then become my everyday watch. I should add that I was a marine biologist doing scuba part of that time, and was a water safety instructor and lifeguard. Great videos Jody. Keep it up. We in Texas love them!
Around $300 USD is the Bulova precisionist at just over the budget on Amazon and accurate to 10 seconds a year. Everyday work watch since I run heavy equipment is my desk diver, the invicta pro diver that gains 30 seconds a day. Good reviews Jodie, I've subscribed
Great video, Jody. I have the blue no date model, and I think it's the prettiest watch in my collection. Love the sapphire bezel insert and how the whole thing glows. Keep up the great work. You're my favorite RUclips channel!
This appears to be the Best Everyday Watch Under $300.....that someone had to get out of the house before Christmas :) Many Thanks to the man himself for putting these up for auction, the black-dialed date complication model with the ever-so-slightly off 1 in the 12 has a new home in the US and I have to say it's every bit as nice as it looked in the review, I'm very pleased. It's easy to see how these check a lot of "every day carry" boxes very easily. Clean, I think elegant applies here, wearing exceptionally well on my wrist. Absolutely no complaints, a spot-on review and I'm in agreement, an outstanding watch (all of them) under $300. Thanks Again.
I do see what you meant... beautiful watch, it's the perfect desk diver. For me the everyday watch has been the sarb033, I love the black brown sunburst in it's dial.
Well you sir have finally persuaded me to purchase a blue date version. It will be a first for many things, first mircobrand, first non in house movement, first watch without history be that the brand as a whole or the watch itself.
My everyday watch is an underrated Mido Commander with an integrated mesh bracelet. Model M842942113 it goes way back to 1959 and still being made today. Saphire glass and recessed crown. Super sleek. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg. 700 US dollars ballpark.
While vacationing in Germany last year, my watch was lost. I replaced it with a Swatch SISTEM Automatik (YIM400G) I'm amazed at the build quality and ruggedness. I'm not afraid to wear it every day. It cost around $280 USD.
SKX007 on the stock Jubilee but with my NH36 movement upgrade is my everyday. 2nd place goes to Orient Ray II. And even wore my SKX with a suit to my own mother’s funeral last year and never thought twice about it.
Excellent video as always, Jody!! That is a lovely piece, especially the blue on blue! I like that they've articulated the mid-link at the end link. If only all the watch manufacturers would do the same!
This is a watch I have owned for going on six months, and I have been hard pushed to take it off my wrist! I've worn it for work, play and a bit everything else! Highly recommend this piece, however a word of WARNING if your shipping to the UK! DHL charge importation charges of £57 upon collection - just something to consider as you enthuse about the $300 price point!
Jody, well done as always, my Tissot Navigator, an excellent swiss made ETA engine for less than 220 usd paired with my NH35 Deep Blue Master 1000 for 150 usd, I couldn't be happier and often switch between the two daily both just slightly north of the 300ish for the RL worth a look for the crafty price conscious owner with a wifey who is always watching. Cheers and merry Christmas and happy new year!
SKX, pick A color. $190, plus or minus, Amazon. Strap Code Jubilee, oyster, or super engineer. $60-90? Less than $300. One very tough, very attractive combination.
One thing we hear little about is "after service". Perhaps something you could look at in relation to micro brands or a video talking about it in general and ask for viewers own experiences. Just a thought. I had an issue with the buckle on a Tisell bracelet. Emailed Mr Oh in Korea and included photos showing the problem. Emailed him on 7th Dec 2018 and new buckle and 4 links arrived in Scotland today 15th Dec. Pretty impressed.
It is because of your video on the Phiobos watches that I decided to buy one for myself. Other than the weak lume (even though it was supposed to have had the upgraded lume) I simply love my blue Phiobos 002 quartz! I definitely would love to buy an automatic Phiobos in the future! Love your videos, keep them coming. God bless and best regards from Florida.
Was just looking at this last week. Glad to have such a timely review haha. Was also looking at Longines Hydroconquest for a higher end version with more interesting overall features and quality. But hard to say when this is 1/4th price
Hey jody yet again you dont disappoint, crakin wee video. My lovely wife and children have taken delivery of my new addition the Seiko 5 Sports Automatic 24 Jewels Japan Made SRP605J2 this watch is a wee belter. ( i snuck a look when the lights were oot...lol) this is a solid watch and time will tell, but already i am in love... for only $205 not quite $300 but worth more i think.
My everyday watch is a diver on a bracelet. It's big at 44mm but because of the lug design it's snug on my skinny wrist. It's a black Seagull Ocean Star. I love it. Cyclops is great for me because I am 73 years old and a bit squinty in the eyeballs. I am trying to beat mine up a bit without success.
I agree with your black dial diver theory. My ‘best’ watch and one which I wear almost every day is my Chr Ward Trident cosc. I don’t wear it diving though, for fear of scratching it up too much. My favourite 300 quid (ish) watch would be either my Tissot T One sport, black face, leather strap or my Kronos Pilot, green face and brown leather strap, @ 150€ Cheers!
My Seiko Sumo black dail, bought it brand new for $300, my daily driver now. Wish the clasp didn't scratch so easy on it but modded the band with a strapcode president bracelet with the seiko clasp.
I've got the Helm Vanuatu on order but have to wait till Feb! Also just bought a Parnis big pilot watch at 47mm x 15mm! It's not for or everyone but I'm 6,4 8in wrist! Anyway I think the $300-$400 mark has a ton off great watches to choose from atm but Helm is king in my mind. Great video as usual and I'm a big fan off Ivan's Perth watches as I live here so you guys are my two favourite channels! Cheers mate...
Really enjoy your channel. Going outside the review and the feedback you requested, as being relatively new to watches I would really appreciate a rundown/review of automatic movements in affordable watches. It seems more than a bit confusing which is better. It may seem a rudimentary request but I'm having trouble finding a somewhat comprehensive opinion on the subject. What is good? Which is better? Could someone provide a link? Keep up the outstanding work and insight you provide to us.
I would say the Helm Vanuatu is my favourite everyday $300 watch. Amazing watch for the money, maybe a bit too tough to wear day-in day-out with a suit though.
I have two. The automatic is an Invicta diver homage that's built like a tank. The watch I wear most frequently is an old basic three-hand Citizen EcoDrive titanium. It's super dependable, accurate, handsome, and very tough. The Citizen is appropriate for anywhere, anytime wear. I have fancier pieces than these two, but the Invicta and the Citizen get the most wrist time.
My personal favorite and comes in at $249.99 is the Deep Blue Nato Diver 300 Automatic - SS Diver. NH36 Auto, 21,600 VPH 24 Jewels with Bilingual Day & Date. Sapphire Crystal, AR Coated, Superluminova & Helium Release valve. Wear it with anything..just looks great .
If not other issues, 3 hand might consider geckota e-01 at 37mm or for a chronograph the Dan henry 1964 racing Chrono at 38mm in this price bracket, for a versatile everyday piece
My under usd 300 for everyday use is Casio EQS-500DB-1A1DR. It has alarm, GMT, 10bar (100m) 1/100s Cronograph, 24hrs dial, perpetual calendar until 2100, dial aligment, and best of ALL, solar powered.
Well Jody, you've done it again. The RL Odyssea II Date just came to my attention recently and really made an impression on me visually and specwise. So I decided to flip on my go-to watch reviewer/advisor and was delighted to find you had already made an updated RL review on the new editions. And of course, you put the icing on the cake. I decided pull the trigger. Just 1 more...
My everyday watch would be a regular skx 007/013, black dial, diver, nice size, classy and beautiful! Although very nice watches, great review as always!
My best everyday watch is a submariner homage bought 11 years ago on ebay then shipped from London for $270. Sporting a Swiss ETA 2836-2 and a huge working date magnifier. The bracelet has screws not pins and a divers extension. There are no markings anywhere on the watch and the seller, exclusive watches is no longer on Ebay. Perhaps it was just tinkered together by a watchmaker and I was just lucky. Of course it doesn't have the exclusive trip lock crown or the lume of the real sub, but it's really really good. Over the past 11 years timekeeping has been fantastic and is just now running a little slow.
I have the 12 hr bezel one and love it. Accuracy is not as great as yours though: I'm getting almost perfect 0 seconds a day dial up on the night, but when I wear it is at +18sec per 12 hours or so.
It is a Looker and i can imagine taking it Surfing, Fishing in the Tropics,, and like my few surviving Seiko's having Great Memoirs Together! Davey Jones has three of em. Another great review, Brilliant Stuff Matey.
My everyday wearer is a Mido Ocean Star Captain, black dial with orange accents. However in the 300 USD or less I love my Dan Henry 1970 diver. Also have a Grovana non diver with ETA 2824-2 is nice at 275 USD.
Great video, as usual ! The RL looks good but for me it's the Phoibos PY007C. Great price and a smoother movement. I have a Steinhart 39 black dial and a Kermit Tisell but the Phoibos gets worn the most. I also have (your fault) a quartz Phoibos which is just great value for about £100 and it looks good. Keep up the good work. It's about to snow here so send some Aussie sunshine !
Fave for me lately (and surprisingly) is the Sharky sterile dial 62 MAS “homage” Beautiful dome box sapphire, unbelievable case polishing, deep pools of C3 Superluminova WITH lumed bezel, drilled lugs, comfortable waffle strap, NH35 movement, sleek and timeless for $230😎😎😎
Everyday favorite watch Berhardt Captains Watch. 38mm wide 10.5 mm thick 46 lug to lug Miyota 9015 with sapphire glass and a champagne dial. Almost spot on time wise with my casio gwm 5610 . Also cant stop looking at it all day long. A real looker for $275
Jody, your review is spot on. For every day (and occasional diving, swimming) this one really fits the bill. Understated appointments with classy (not gaudy) good looks. Already having a nice dress watch and several "knock abouts", I probably would not drop everything and purchase one right now, but if I catch a decent pre-owned on Ebay down the road I feel it would be a watch worth having.
I mostly wear my Seiko SARB033 as my everyday watch. I do find reflections from uncoated sapphire somewhat annoying, so I sometimes pick a different watch for a while.
I was fortunate enough to score a Orange Samurai for $270 US. I wear it a lot. This Odyssea isn’t a scratch on my Boldr Odyssey Bronze Meteorite, but that’s a little bit more pricey.
Picked up the Phoibos based on your review. Fantastic watch! Just took delivery of the GMT bezel Richard Legrand today. Fantastic piece also! You NEVER disappoint! Keep up the good work!!
Hi Jody, I would argue a black dial field watch is the best everyday watch. I know you haven't had a great experience with Hamilton but my Khaki King Scuba (albeit just over $300) is my favorite everyday watch...also a bit dressier with the polished bezel and slim design..
Your comic relief always make me do a double take! Keep it up Jody! Am always looking forward to your videos being uploaded! Awesome presentation and as always excellent content! Cheers from Bengaluru India
Favorite everyday watch at $300 or less? Gotta be my SRP777 Turtle on the black Maratac Zulu. Probably my most versatile piece. Though even my Casio F-91w at sub-$10 wants to be mentioned as a perfectly competent everyday watch.
Have the blue no date. The dial is stunning, the case finish is ok and good for the money but the finish transitions are not sharp as I’d like, the bezel action is ok 90clicks doesn’t bother me. The sapphire bezel insert is excellent, the hands are great, the line is awesome. The bracelet is pretty good, the clasp I find to rough on the edges facing the wrist, it sometimes dogs in when I close it, ouch! I stuck it straight on a leather vintage strap and the blue/brown combo is amazing, well worth the money even with out the metal strap. It’s a really eye catching piece. It doesn’t necessarily stack up to a macro photo shoot but on the wrist it’s beautiful, especially in a bit of natural light.
I agree that a black diver style watch is the most versatile watch you can own. I would definitely consider this if I didn’t own a seiko sbdc051. It’s got a similar, narrow bezel which I love. Thanks for the review!
Nicely done. I especially liked your explanation of the male /female links. Quite professional. I really like this Richard LeGrand. I have been looking for just the right GMT. Thanks
My favorite every day "affordable" watch is a toss up between the Vostok 710634 and the Invicta 8926OB. Both 200 meter automatic black dial Dive watches that can be had for less than $100 US. I would say the Vostok is my absolute favorite but the plastic crystal to my knowledge has no sapphire replacement. On the other hand I did find a sapphire replacement for my Invicta. Hence the toss up. P.S. Sorry, I wrote this comment before I heard the price constraints at the end of your video.
I wear my Orient Mako II a lot. It is comfortable and I don’t worry about banging it up.
My favorite everyday watch is seiko sgg731p1. They cost about 150$. Light titanium watch with sapphire crystal and good water resistant is what I was looking for. And of course it's quartz watch for that price.

Steven Wymor Two nice ones👍😎
(Sorry about Mom😞)
@@willardhooton920 thanks man and I appreciate the condolences.
My everyday is the Spinnaker Fluess! College kid from Iowa I liked the discounted price and the vintage styling!
Excellent presentation and a very nice watch. My choice for most wrist times is a blue Orient Mako II. Along with my G-Shock DW 5600.
My daily watch is a Seiko SKX023 - Submariner-esque looks in a compact package that can easily slip under any cuff.
My favorite every day watch is my Orient Mako II with blue dial. It looks so good and costs 150€.
Andrea Iacolina one of my favorite watches
@@gtbigdog3507 My Blue Ray2 is getting more wrist time than any other. And if it does get a ding or a scratch it is no train smash
My Invicta pro diver reference number 15585, 43mm case , size, coke bezel with NH35 movement. Love the watch!
SKX, pick A color. $190, plus or minus, Amazon. Strap Code Jubilee, oyster, or super engineer. $60-90? Less than $300. One very tough, very attractive combination.
My best everyday watch is without a doubt my promaster ny0045, love the crown at eight and the mioyta rattle 😀
Love the Phoibos 002 quartz!!
Best fit and finish for under $120 PERIOD 👌👍😎
As you said, best everyday watch is black dial diver, my choice is Orient Ray Raven II.
My favourite 300 quid (ish) watch would be either my Tissot T One sport, black face, leather strap or my Kronos Pilot, green face and brown leather strap, @ 150€
Cheers!
My Seiko Sumo black dail, bought it brand new for $300, my daily driver now. Wish the clasp didn't scratch so easy on it but modded the band with a strapcode president bracelet with the seiko clasp.
This is a beautiful watch . Simple and not busy . Just my kind of watch
Hey mate! Check out my Top 5 Tips For Buying On Kickstarter video. It has the info you need. Cheers!
Orient Raven Ray, followed by the Orient Blue Ray. I find that those two make their way onto my wrist far more than any others.
I just checked the website and the Odyssea Mark 3 is now a bit smaller (40mm, 46mm l2l), has a Miyota 9039 and a 120 click bezel. Looks promising
Excellent Big D! I am sure you will be happy with your purchase. Killer watch for the money this one. Let me know how you go! Jody
Just pre-ordered the Odyssea Mark III Oceanfarer with black dial for USD 299. Can’t wait for it to arrive. It looks better now without date imo. 👍🏼
The best everyday watch is the Casio F91W
Fave for me lately (and surprisingly) is the Sharky sterile dial 62 MAS “homage”
Beautiful dome box sapphire, unbelievable case polishing, deep pools of C3 Superluminova WITH lumed bezel, drilled lugs, comfortable waffle strap, NH35 movement, sleek and timeless for $230😎😎😎
Everyday favorite watch Berhardt Captains Watch.
Good to hear that mate! Get on the list for a Helm in 2019. Cheers!
Good video and a neat watch. Props for the Senna shirt too!
My favourite everyday beater watch is a Marathon GSAR, great all around number. Cheers
Nice👍
I hope you be able to make a review of the new Baltic Aquascaphe before pre-order ends.Thanks.
Hi Jody, I would argue a black dial field watch is the best everyday watch. I know you haven't had a great experience with Hamilton but my Khaki King Scuba (albeit just over $300) is my favorite everyday watch...also a bit dressier with the polished bezel and slim design..
Also the seiko snzh57 is a great watch for 150.
I like my blue face, blue bezel odessea. I would also add the black face, black bezel Tisell for ED wear.
These watches are just gorgeous for the price and they look so versatile.
I agree that a black diver style watch is the most versatile watch you can own. I would definitely consider this if I didn’t own a seiko sbdc051. It’s got a similar, narrow bezel which I love. Thanks for the review!
Would this watch be too big for a smaller wrist?? Still very beautiful watch
Enjoy your honest no bullshit videos.
Nicely done. I especially liked your explanation of the male /female links. Quite professional. I really like this Richard LeGrand. I have been looking for just the right GMT. Thanks
The case looks rather thick & chunky. Does it wear any smaller than the Seiko Samurai? Any thoughts on how it compares with the Orient Triton?
just out of curiosity do you have any watch recommendations for every day around $3,000?
Sinn 105? Oris Aquis? Both nearer $3k. Black Bay 58 would be perfect if it had a date. cheers!
Vostok acrylic is actual great 👍😎
All 3 look like good choices. I like the Richard Legrand. I agree SKX007 is a bit too thick for every day.
My everyday wear is my Hamilton Khaki Mechanical that I picked up at Jomashop for $249.00. What a bargain!!!! Thanks for all of your great videos.
The RL blue dial no date version is now in stock. But I just bought a GL0093 & a Ray 2 blue dial. Damn I have no self control.
I want buy Blue one RL II
?
I would add that a black dial dive watch with a GMT Bezel is the best all around-er.
