I've had a Steinhart Pepsi GMT 42mm for 5 years now. ETA movement, AR coated Sapphire Crystal, Solid link screw end bracelet. Paid £455, can't go wrong for that amount imo.
The VHP is awesome, the most accurate Swiss HAQ currently in production! However, I'm surprised to see that you didn't recommend the Glycine Airman (either Purist 24h or traditional GMT, it's the same movement), not only the Airman was the first to feature a dual time zone complication on a wristwatch (in 1953), it's also under 1000$! I picked up a 40mm GL0377 brand new for 630 USD... With a ETA 2893-2 and original desing, winning formula in my opinion!
7:48 I love the Longines. I have had my eye on it for a while. I like the way you can set the time. It is an antiquated system. Not unlike wearing a mechanical watch to tell the time.
I own the black C63 GMT and have been extremely happy with it. Lovely gloss black dial, sharp indices, great case finishing and a really good bracelet (with quick release and micro adjustment). Whole thing just feels really well made. If you like the look of it, I doubt you'll be disappointed with the quality
Agreed, it’s one of my best watches (I think the black dial is the one to get too). The look, fit and finish punches way above it’s price tag and the 52 hour power reserve is a nice bonus as well.
A fine review that includes a few I need to look at. I have the Tissot and it is an understated gem. I'm curious as to how not one but TWO legitimately good sub-$1000 Swiss offerings were missed. First - Glycine. Say what you will about them being related to Invicta. They make an excellent watch in this price range. I recently got a 42 mm in bronze that is very accurate and most comfortable. Also - Revue Thommen. I have a few of their GMTs and they are also excellent. Their only down sides: 1) it looks like they learned bezel alignment from Seiko, and 2) clasps that require adjustment right out of the box. Even then - great stuff.
Hi Jodie, delighted to see the Citizen BJ7111-51M in your list. I just happened to be wearing mine whilst watching the video. I picked mine up for £250 in a sale and I think, given its spec, its unbeatable at this price.
I’d definitely add the Lorier Hyperion to this list. It’s a gorgeous looking watch. Unfortunately unavailable right now, but knowing Lorier there’ll be an updated/upgraded version along soon.
@@SaffuillaKarman excellent! It looks like there may be a special edition coming also. I would love it if they updated to using the Seiko GMT movement and brought the price down a bit. Though I suspect they won’t do that due to the thickness of the movement.
If you are not fond of the acrylic glass on the Hyperion, I would suggest the Baltic GMT. Same movement but sapphire glass and bezel. Similar vintage look but slightly more exp at €900.
The Rotary Henley is a great alternative. Swiss quartz movement , sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance and screw down crown. The build quality is excellent for the price and can be found for £150.
Mate it's my birthday today (yep a 1975 child like yourself)and what better way to start the day..decent coffee and jody with a top ten under a grand list!..I think the kids have had enough of my money,it's time for a GMT!..glad you picked up your orange Seiko, their sunburst orange dials remind me of holidays in the med! All the best !
GMT is by far my favorite and most useful complication. I'm surprised you didn't mention any offerings form Glycine. Their Airman is iconic and lately there are GMTs available in the Combat line as well. I recently scored one in bronze from Ashford and it checks so many boxes for a really good price. Cheers!
Was just going to mention it here. Watches with true history\heritage (actually, one of the first GMTs produced ever if not the first one), iconic looks, swiss made auto and pricing that surprises even at retail. But yeah, prices that Ashford or Jomashop suggest are just shocking. And yet it's not in the list, whilst generic steinhart is, crazy:) P.S. I've got GL0166 (Airman in bronze) but also will probably pull the trigger on Airman The Chief one day.
I was going to say the same thing. I bought the Combat Sub GMT at Ashford for less than $600 with a discount code. Awesome watch and great dimensions! Very impressed on how thin it is! Glycine is a very underrated brand these days!
@@murilocallegari3502 I’m an airline pilot that works all over the globe. UTC is the universal time standard of aviation and so knowing it is useful. With a so-called “true GMT” type of movement, you always have a reference to GMT and can move the watch between time zones easily. When I’m on the road it is always with one of those from my collection on my wrist.
I own Longines Conquest VHP GMT 41mm white dial. Wonderful watch for traveling. By the way I use the phone flesh function for setting time upon arrival. Very quick and easy. Because it connects to a phone using flash instead of Bluetooth, the battery life is quite long (Bluetooth is power consuming). It also has a stand by mode if it’s not used for a while. It stops hand from moving thus prolonging the battery life even more.
Thanks Jodie for the advice regarding the Phoibos, just received one and love it. I was concerned that the GMT bezel seems quite 'loose', but as both crowns are screw down this is not an issue, as once adjusted it is locked in place. Love the satin case and Oris style bezel. I don't often buy quartz, but happy with this exception. Thanks once again for your reviews
These under $1k reviews are great. They give me inspiration for where my collection could head. I purchased the Steinhart Ocean GMT 42mm late last year after having watched the review on this channel. It’s well made solid product couldn’t be happier.
Glycine are amazing for the money. I used to think that Seiko were great in this price range, but after owning a Glycine Combat Classic 36 and a Airman Purist 24h 40mm, I simply can't recommend Seiko anymore. They are just that much better in my opinion
@@El1988Che yeah that is so true. I have combat GMT in black / grey in steel, combat sub 42 vintage and Bienne dress watch. All great and not just for the money they are asking.
I own the Baltic GMT aquascape for €900. It's a great watch with all the bells and whistles. Great size at 39.5mm and the soprad movement has been brilliant so far.
I bought my VHP (with flash technology) as soon as it was released as back then i travelled back and forth from the US and it was superb with just a press of a button and to watch the hands wind round to the exact time in the country you were visiting was brilliant. Still got it and cant think of another i would need.
Hi Jody, another great video as usual. I took delivery of the white dial 41mm VHP GMT this week on the bracelet and would have to say it far exceeded my expectations. Longines consistently deliver incredible quality for a low price point, it continues to baffle me why they are not more popular, especially given the heritage of the name. The smaller sized 41mm (not 40) fits my 7 inch wrist perfectly and I was able to get a very good fit despite the butterfly clasp. The Flash setting is very useful as well, next purchase in the black fitted rubber strap and clasp, keep up the great work buddy 👍
I would add the Aragon Hercules GMT with a Swiss Sorprod C125 movement. 43 mm. Currently $430 with discount code. Beautiful watch and movement. A true GMT.
Good call. You dont see many Aragons on RUclips do you? I think they got a rep for enormous 50mm watches and no one looked again, which is a real shame. I imported one to the uk (the smaller diver 42/3mm purple dial) and was very pleasantly surprised by what you get for the money. Even the packaging is really good.
I’ve got the Squale 1545 GMT & it’s a great watch. It’s run -2 to -3 sec/day since I got it 2 years ago. I don’t like that it’s a Rolex homage, but I’m glad it doesn’t have the Mercedes hands.
My tip: Mido Ocean Star GMT. You can easily find one at your local store for something around $900-950. The quality is almost as good as CW. And it looks cool, solid and expensive, unlike Seiko, Timex or Chronos.
@@lachlanmax After 47мм panerai, I look at 44mm as at completely normal size:) And... I am a huge dude 190cm tall. I'm just fine with 44mm. On the contrary, 40 is my lower limit. Any 38mm watch looks like a toy on me. So, it's very personal thing. But I like this Mido.
Great shirt! (As always.) And great list! (As always!) Until I can get that Seelander I'll stick with my Pagani Explorer 2 homage (despite the unsettlingly weird movement that engages the rotor on handwinding or when screwing-down the crown!)
Speaking of GMT's under $1000, I'd love to see you review the Lorier Hyperion. It's been on my watchlist for a while and I believe a 2nd iteration is going to be released soon. I'd love to get your thoughts on it.
I've been getting on their maiking list -they've gone ' explorer ' on their GADA & ...added sapphire on their new dress watch - they were strong advocats of using plexi / mineral crystals ( customer request?).
@@jaysterling26 I suspect the sapphire on the Zephyr is due to it's rectangular case, they've said on a few occasions it cost them more to make their watches with plexi than sapphiredue to their being very few options available for microbrands. I agree on the falcon though, it's a bit too explorer homage territory for me these days.
Great video, nice selection. The Tissot so tempting, but 'need v want' led me to buy the Phoibos so thanks for the discount code. I hadn't heard of this brand before, I find it very appealing. GMT, Sapphire, 300 mm for that price ! I'll add some feedback when I receive it.
Agree on the Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT. I have it on the green with bracelet, leather strap, and rubber hybrid strap. It gets the most wrist time of any of my watches-more than my Rolex, Tudor, or TAG. If you get it, splurge for the bracelet-100%
Like the Phoibos at its price, the Tissot is a pleasent surprise on this list (and perhaps my wishlist) and the Longines is great if you can scrape up the Cash. Good job Jody
Love this list and love the channel even more...keep up the great work, Jody...Torgoen has a range of affordable GMT watches that I'd at least consider over the Timex or any of the Chinese knockoffs that are out there (yes, Im sure theyre made in China too but they have original designs)...not 100% sure of the quality but Richard Branson wears one (at least in the advertisements 😉)...
Great video, Jody. I highly recommend the new Aragon, "Hercules" GMT, 43mm. I know that they aren't necessarily "your cup of tea," per se when it comes to styling, but they come w/ a swiss-made, Soprod C125. The price for them is $650, but w/ the coupon-code "DEC," they can be purchased for $410. The model also comes, w/ sapphire crystal (6 layer AR-coated), a tungsten bezel-insert, screw-down crown, w/ 200m WR, excellent case finishing, ect. And to top it all off, it's one of the most comfortable watches I own, in spite of it's dimensions. There is also a Soprod M150, "3-hander," 43mm, of the same model, that can be purchased using the same "DEC" coupon-code, for $380. You may also be interested in the newest Antigravity w/ the Ronda R-150, similarly spec'ed, for $210. No coupon needed. Maybe worth a look, as there are some other gems as well. Hope that helps. Keep up the good work
Aside from the total screw-up MISS of the Swiss made Glycine GMTs, the Swiss made True-GMT by Alpina can be had new under $1k is a true pilots traveling icon GMT. And Squale Tropic is another Swiss made overlooked under $1k.
I always look forward to watching your weekend video on Sunday morning on Cape Cod Ma Us. keep up the great work and I hope you shake that "Man Flu" be well!!
Yeah that Timex is cool they’ve got the all gold version at a local store here in Canada for $150, it’s a Re-issue from 1979 it says on the box. Pretty stunning in the all gold with day and date, tempting.
Great list Jody. You should mention which ones are office GMT vs desk GMT. I bought the Citizen which is a true or travelers GMT and it is very useful for traveling and keeping track of local time vs time at home. It also has that dive bezel. Mine is stainless steel and has a ratchet for on the fly micro adjust.
Amazing list as always Jody! I’m always amazed how you consistently seem to turn up hidden gems that I’ve never heard of. There’s so many nooks and crannies in the weird and wonderful world of watches but it’s always exciting to find something new has been lurking just around the next corner.
Bought my first GMT in Jan this year for £560, Chris Ward C65 GMT Pepsi. Ive become a huge fan of CW watches in the last 12 months. Have the LE C60 Atoll on preorder!
I own the Tissot, and reviewed it on my channel. It is also a True GMT, in which the hour hand move independently. Its the same movement found in the more expensive Mido Ocean Star GMT. Tissot, inexplicably, never advertised this model
Thanks for the video. I enjoy my 2020 Christopher Ward C65 GMT Pepsi retro diver. It’s a little homage to The original GMT Master, but enough of an original design. Worth the $1k. It does have the 9 o clock logo text, but it’s ok, since it’s my name as well. Will have to check out the Kronos
I have a Svalbard Voyager AA43, a quartz GMT that's currently on sale for just under $110 USD. Svalbard makes some interesting watches, including 24 hour watches, single hand watches, and some that run anti-clockwise(backwards to the regular direction)
Yes, the new Seiko movement will make it to China. The Chinese makers will put this movement in homage cases (SKX, Explorer II, GMT Master, the lot) with better crystals, 200M WR, better clasps than the Seiko 5's. They will even have some near original designs, maybe. December sale time I hope.
Got a really good deal on the Raymond Weil Tango Pepsi GMT last year. Really well made and finished and doesn't really homage anything, definitely worth a look during sale time.
Awesome episode! I love the Longines VHP in the black PVD, I’ve seen it on Jomashop for around 1000USD. But the takeaway here was the Citizen. I never thought I’d find a Citizen that I wanted, but I think it’s happened. TBH, you were being polite when you called them “vanilla”. Citizen wishes its design language were exciting enough to even rise to “vanilla”. With that GMT, however, they got there. What they can’t seem to get right is their US distribution. As with the Citizen Promaster GMT that looks like a Nam-era Glycine Airman, this one doesn’t appear to be sold in the States. WTF. Last I checked, the US and Japan had pretty good trade relations, so why won’t Citizen export the only cool watches it makes to us here? Rant over, cheers, and keep up the great work!
I really liked the format of this comparison video. One focus, multiple sources. I wonder if it would be possible to do a similar comparison video for the datejust. It's a popular dressy watch, and there are many new homages out there. Steeldive, Cronos, and San Martin are up against a perennial favorite, Pagani Design. Are there still Japanese homages out there, ( Seiko, Orient,)? Is there competition from Swiss competitors, like Hamilton, Tissot, et al? Are there Canadian or American brands joining the scene? If there is anyone who is capable of helping us find the diamond in a goat's tush, it's you, Jody. You have earned our trust with your tongue in cheek chiding of the luxury brands, while being honest about having moans and niggles about every watch under review. Perfection is elusive, and even the heavy hitters of the watch industry should be aware that there is room for improvement in their offerings. Just asking... As always, thank you for an entertaining video. I don't have any GMTs, but I will certainly refer to this video if I ever decide to buy one.
"Sometimes you want a watch on your wrist that flies under the radar", exactly, not one that makes you look like a terrorist on an international flight ..-. ..- -. -. -.-- 😂😂😂. Spot on Jody! I have only 1 GMT, Steinhart Ocean One 44mm GMT Ceramic, it's an office gmt. If I venture to get another gmt, I would go for the Mido Ocean Star GMT, a true gmt that fits my 8inch wrist nicely. Excellent video as always!
That Sealander C63 has been on my list since it’s release. But there’s always something that comes along requiring my savings at the moment though 🤦🏻♂️
Waiting on a Cronos Pepsi GMT that I bought in the sales. Their Subby homage absolutely blew me away and I've been craving a GMT M2 homage for a while now.

Alpina are not my favourite brand tbh. Gylcine definitely worth a look!
This channel is gold.
Great selection. I am liking the Seiko.
Bro after watching your seiko GMT i started searching the exact title of your video you read my mind thank you
Citizen vanilla!?!?! Heresy!!! Meet my Altichron, Navihawk AT, Sailhawk and Nighthawk for a fight after school. 😁
All the best
Really enjoy these top 10's. One I would have really recommended is the Hamilton Jazzmaster GMT. Truly exceptional 👏
Wore my Citizen Promaster Ecodrive Worldtime GMT citizen bj7100-82e to Europe this summer. Great watch.
Jody you're working overtime mate!, thanks for all your efforts.
Thanks for watching Bryan! 💪💪
Great timing for the video, Jody! I’m getting married soon and wanted a $1000 hit piece to wear on wedding day
It's no longer available but I love my 2893 powered zelos horizons. Unique colorways, doesn't look like a homage, and the quality is excellent.
Nice job, Jody. I would add the Glycine and Bernhardt Corsair GMT to the list. Cheers!
Some great choices there.
Congratulations Dr Jody
Wow, I'd be happy with any of these offerings. I have some thinking too do before I make a purchase.
All time is local 🙃 - nice GMT compilation, thanks dood 🤟!
Bought my first GMT in Jan this year for £560, Chris Ward C65 GMT Pepsi. Ive become a huge fan of CW watches in the last 12 months. Have the LE C60 Atoll on preorder!
I'm also waiting for my Atoll, it's only a couple of weeks away, but it seems like forever.
Love the shirt! And the watches!
I have a Svalbard Voyager AA43, a quartz GMT that's currently on sale for just under $110 USD. Svalbard makes some interesting watches, including 24 hour watches, single hand watches, and some that run anti-clockwise(backwards to the regular direction)
Nice way to dovetail this into the seiko gmt video
I have friends in the UK so the GMT is a useful tool for timing my chats... big deal I know but it works for me.
Funny, I don't care for that Seiko sharp edge, but your list is otherwise fun and interesting. Another enjoyable ride. Thanks J.
G-Shock Frogman GWF-A1000 is an analog four-hand lovely piece that I humbly enter into the 'what about' discussion.
I'll definitely consider that mate!!
In intro beat is pretty good ❤
I have a white dialed C63 Sealander. Great looks. Black friday price.
My pick would be the citizen pro master nighthawk! An unusual GMT, but the watch is fantastic.
Holy moly that Tissot!
Waiting on a Cronos Pepsi GMT that I bought in the sales. Their Subby homage absolutely blew me away and I've been craving a GMT M2 homage for a while now.
All pilots use GMT (Zulu) time when communicating with ATC. When I was flight training back in the 90’s I got a Casio Ani-digi AMW320 as the cheapest way to have a GMT watch.
I have the mechanical version of the longines gmt- only issue is thickness of the watch. But overall love it.
Why no love for the Glycine Combat Sub GMT ? 200m wr, sapphire crystal, Sellita SW330-2 ,and it comes in both stainless steel and bronze .
Glycine Combat Sub GMT is very nice…you should review one.
I got a CITIZEN PROMASTER MARINE BJ7110-11E Eco-Drive GMT Super Titanium Men Diver Watch for $500 AUD. I'm very happy with it.
Hey Jody, any suggestions for a women's GMT?!
Morning jody, looking forward to this, it's next on my wish list!
Mooooorning Bob! First comment today mate, ten points to you! 🤣 Hope you are well.
@@JustOneMoreWatch all good jody, off to the cricket today, new Zealand v ireland expecting a humiliation at the hands the kiwis!
